Hello, SafariScribe,

What's with all of the page moving with this archive talk page? There must have been 5 or 6 page moves here, most of which were probably unnecessary. It left a few broken redirects and orphaned talk pages that I had to clean up. Please think carefully before you move any page, whether article, draft or talk page so that multiple page moves will not be required. Make sure that the page title and namespace are correct before moving a page. It's in the chaos of these multiple page moves that sometimes the actual content can be accidentally deleted so please take more care with any future page moves you do. Thank you. Liz Read! Wasim Abu Salem Draft - Questions & help

[edit]

Hello @SafariScribe,

Thank you for the review, I appreciate all that you do at Wikipedia as an editor, it is people like you that keep it going strong. Regardless of anything I just wanted to mention that.

You mentioned in the comments that the sources in the article might be close to the subject, if you take a look at the sources used, they are almost 100% secondary sources from independent publications:

- One of the sources is Textbook used in high schools all over Israel to teach Arabic, it is taught to 60,000 kids each year as part of their curriculum and has been taught since 2018 covering around 400,000 students to date

- Another source is an article on MSN, a prominent and widely-read site

- A ton of additional sources are legitimate news organizations that have done profiles on this person, see: Mako, The Marker, The Jerusalem Post

The subject has founded a tech-movement that has taught 26,000 students across 3 countries(Israel, USA, UK), I belive Wikipedia is the place for such a person to be highlighted, I look forward to hearing from you. MoMit (talk) 07:27, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About Politically Discriminatory conduct from you

[edit]

Hello. Why you declined Irakli Batiashvili’s biography? All our sources are reliable and official! I think that real couse of your decline is following: you didn’t seriously expertise our text or your conduct was politically discriminatory relation to Irakli Batiashvili’s person. We will investigate this issue. 94.43.168.234 (talk) 14:24, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are just here to insult me. Thanks and I pray for you. First, you will have to disclose your WP:COI with the subject. Secondly, you should link the draft here, so that I will take a second look; though possibly another decline if it has been resubmitted. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 15:05, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CSD G11s

[edit]

Hello, SafariScribe,

Please raise the bar on what you consider "promotional" editing. If a draft is a straight-forward description of a person or company, it is not necessarily advertising or spam. I have untagged some of your recent taggings because they just read as article drafts, they needed sources, yes, but they were not promotional in any way I could see. Please adjust your guideline on what you see as promotional and just tag drafts and articles that are actually "advertising" which is a better term for what we are trying to remove from the project. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 20:00, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I did delete several that you tagged because they, indeed, were promotional. So, I just think a slight adjustment is called for. Liz Read! Talk! 20:12, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SafariScribe.

I am a frequent user of Wikipedia, and occasional editor to correct small errors.

I am writing my first article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Eiwa_taiyaku_sh%C5%ABchin_jisho

You rejected it.

Please help me make it publishable.

I am a native English speaker, fluent Japanese speaker/reader, and very interested in history of how Industrial Revolution came to Japan.

The new article from NBER cited in my draft article is very interesting. One of the sources it cites is the first Japanese/English dictionary. I wanted to view it, and I was able to find scans, but it took some time. I wish that Wikipedia helped me find it. So I invested a half hour in writing a wikipedia article that would have helped me to find it.

I don't understand exactly why you rejected my article, but happy to listen to your input and try to fix it. Bolaurent (talk) 21:17, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will come back to that unfailingly today or tomorrow. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 06:21, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added some more content and several more sources. Am I on the right track?
My interest was sparked by the Juhasz article, just published, which points out that Dictionaries and government-sponsored translation of 10,000 technical aticles/books into Japanese helped Japan accomplish its own Industrial Revolution, only fifteen years after the "closed country" policy was forcibly ended by American warships. Bolaurent (talk) 21:30, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have provided two sources for the scanned original text, but I think my citations ought to state where the scans are hosted, and I don't know how to do that.
My ref 1 is to google books.
My Bibliography Hori, Tatsunosuke (1862) is to 国立教育政策研究所 ( National Institute for Educational Policy Research, NIER) Bolaurent (talk) 21:52, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Submission declined without addressing improvements

[edit]

Greetings, @SafariScribe.

Respectfully, it appears that you declined my previously submitted article, the Draft:El Paso Chamber page, without notifying me or commenting on solutions to previous objections. Each of the objections were discussed extensively on the talk page and then addressed with additional citations from reliable sources, including the New York Times, other newspapers of record, and articles from an academic journal that were focused exclusively on the subject and their activities. There are nine citations from sources on the page, which concerns a 125-year-old organization of historic importance in the largest metropolitan area of a major region in the U.S. I've included historical photographs and multiple links to existing pages on associated persons, events, and related subjects. If you feel that these still remain insufficient, please kindly explain.

Williams,
I think you're missing this at Special:PermanentLink/1234155546#Your submission at Articles for creation: El Paso Chamber (July 12). Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 03:01, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is a general notice says what it did when the previous reviewer submitted it before on May 30, but simply reattaching it does not address the changes that have been made sense. Those reasons for the decline no longer apply, they have been addressed. If you disagree, then please explain how each of them remains unresolved. Thank you.
WilliamEHillis (talk) 03:07, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(since, not sense) WilliamEHillis (talk) 03:07, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My concerns are primarily with the sourcing in the draft. I couldn't access the contents of the offline citations from Password, and to you, if these sources are accessible, they could help verify certain contents in your draft. If you have them, please send the link or email the content.
Aside from that, your draft has potential but has several flaws that need to be addressed. After thoroughly reading your discussion with Valeree, I decided to decline the draft for the same reasons as Theroadislong. I don't know what to do with this agenda source, and doesn't seem to contain the information about El Paso Chamber. Also the PDF source from The New York Times has nothing to offer that independently and significantly covered the company. Though historical importance is good but it doesn't matter. I also can't see any thing the chamber has done to meet WP:NCORP. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 03:32, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for following up. I am told that past copies of Password are available online to members of the El Paso County Historical Society, but they are behind the firewall and inaccessible to non-members. Printed copies are available at the University of El Paso Library, which is where I read them. WP policy expressly does not discriminate between offline and online sources according to WP:OFFLINE.

As for the Chamber's name, the article is titled according to its current name; but the change of name is addressed twice: in the very first line of the article (The El Paso Chamber ["the Chamber," formerly the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce] ), and then later where the name change is mentioned ("'The organization was rebranded as the 'El Paso Chamber' in 2018.[6])," including citation of the newspaper article announcing the name change.

WilliamEHillis (talk) 03:49, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WilliamEHillis, Please be careful of the words you may have unintentionally used. Nobody is discriminating b/w online and offline sources. However, I 'd love to see your draft move to mainspace. If you have the copy where you read before citing it in the draft, I will be happy to read, and make some changes before accepting. Thanks. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 15:09, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RE: "If you have the copy where you read before citing it in the draft, I will be happy to read"

I have offline photographic images of the pages. We are not allowed to publish them as they are the property of The El Paso County Historical Society, but I can post them to you if you will provide contact information. I am not inclined to consider this standard procedure for an offline source, but I am trying to accommodate you and it's the best that I can do.

Suggestion on draft improvement

[edit]

Hello @SafariScribe ,

I hope this message finds you well. I recently came across an artist while watching my favorite morning show on my cable, and after conducting thorough research on the internet, I decided to draft a Wikipedia article about him. I think the artist has received considerable coverage from reliable sources and has a Billboard-charting album and at the same time worked with top chatting musicians.

I have been working on this draft for several weeks, ensuring that it meets Wikipedia's standards for verifiability and notability. However, as this is my first major contribution out of my region on a musical artiste not related to africa, I would greatly appreciate it if you could spare some time to review my draft and provide any feedback or suggestions to improve it.

Here is the link to my draft: Blacc Zacc

Thank you very much for your time and assistance here on wikipedia.

Best regards Afrowriter (talk) 08:02, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Afrowriter I'll later take a look at the draft. Also your message appears like an AI generated text. Did you by any means use ChatGPT? Not to border you, it's a friendly talk. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 16:07, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thank you @SafariScribe I am a writer and researcher as stated on my talk page I found AI generated images and stuffs disgusting. in as much other people believe it is an easy way to get things done I still find it disgusting reason be that. I think most employers this day wouldn't want to contact humans to get a certain stuff done they prefer using computer generated process which as a result has cause high rate of unemployment in the world. and this high rate of unemployment can lead so many evil deeds.
Thanks for asking though, if I always sound so serious lol or formal when typing maybe I should re adjust and take things slow.
Cheers happy editing Afrowriter (talk) 16:18, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hope you are doing well, I am currently disheartened by the way you deleted my page of Mishri and accepted another editor's article just on the basis of request. Notability Assessment

[edit]

Tim Sheehy appears to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for several reasons:

Media Coverage

[edit]

In the past week alone, there have been at least 8 distinct headlines mentioning Tim Sheehy, indicating significant media coverage. These headlines cover various aspects of his campaign, including his speeches at the Republican National Convention, his fundraising efforts, and his political positions. This level of media attention supports his notability under Wikipedia's guidelines, which consider significant coverage in reliable sources as a key criterion.

Notability Criteria

[edit]

Wikipedia's notability guidelines for biographies of living persons (WP:BIO) state that a person is presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. Tim Sheehy's media coverage includes:

 • MSNBC: Coverage of his statements at the Republican National Convention.
 • USA Today: Full speech coverage at the Republican National Convention.
 • Montana Free Press: Detailed article on campaign donations.
 • Daily Montanan: In-depth interview and analysis.
 • Flathead Beacon: Article on his resignation from Bridger Aerospace.
 • Wall Street Journal: Coverage of his speech at the RNC.
 • KFF Health News: Fact-checking his statements on abortion.
 • KTVH: Coverage of his attempts to tie Jon Tester to President Biden.

Achievements and Roles

[edit]

Tim Sheehy's achievements and roles also contribute to his notability:

 • Military Service: Decorated Navy SEAL with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
 • Business Career: Founder of Bridger Aerospace, which went public on the Nasdaq.
 • Political Candidacy: Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Montana, endorsed by prominent figures like Donald Trump and Steve Daines.

Conclusion

[edit]

Given the significant media coverage, his notable achievements in both military and business, and his current political candidacy, Tim Sheehy meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Therefore, the draft page for Tim Sheehy should be considered notable under Wikipedia's guidelines. Jbsmitty (talk) 19:19, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering why the submission was declined. What is missing and how could I improve the page?

Clayton R. Paul is a highly esteemed scientist, highly notable in his scientific field, author of numerous publications and books.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people) Here it says that for an academic "are notably influential in the world of ideas without their biographies being the subject of secondary sources".

For context: I'm a researcher at the Northeastern University, Network Science Institute. We are working on a project, which aims to understand the differences between Human-curated encyclopedias and Machine-created knowledge. As part of this project we plan to upload 100 articles of notable scientist to Wikipedia in the following weeks. Our goal is to understand how can we influence the visibility of marginalized groups, both on human-curated and machine-created knowledge bases.

We would love to receive feedback on the feasibility of our plans and how would you recommend approaching the articles.

Question on article for creation

[edit]

Dear SafariScribe, I'd like to ask why my article submission Draft:The Quarterly Journal of Finance has been declined?

I included within it two citations. They are: SCImago which is the standard journal ranking tool and the Midwest financial association. Both of these are independent of the journal itself. Also included in the infobox is the official journal webpage. In fact the SCImago Q2 ranking implies that the articles published by this journal received several thousand academic citations. I looked at other wiki articles (see: Category:Finance journals) for scientific journals and they all look the same.

Thanks for your help, Funcionais. Funcionais (talk) 20:55, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question on reliable sources

[edit]

@SafariScribe thanks for your quick review of Draft:Fabio Dias. I think my previous writing led you to believe I was putting this as a professor case, when actually this is a WP:SIGCOV case. Can you please confirm why The Jerusalem Post, Jornal Pequeno, Gulf News, Global Banking & Finance Review and Business Insider do not satisfy the criteria of multiple, reliable, secondary and independent sources? These aren’t sponsored posts, this is independent media coverage that has gone through an independent editorial board! Thanks Contributor892z (talk) 22:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here are my source analysis:
 • source 1 is a press release
 • Source 2 is a promotional content
 • Source 3 is good
 • Source 4 is a list of former students of the school; isn't independent and a significant coverage
 • Source 5 is an WP:INTERVIEW
 • Source 6 is tagged with "#Featuredpost", thus promotional
 • Source 7 and 8 are not reliable; you can't cite Wikicommons
 • Source 9 to 10 were for the company and should reflect his impact, which I can't see. 9 is the article he co-authored
 • Source 10 is a press release of the company that is neither independent nor significantly covered
 • Source 11 is a promotional piece. Where is then the notability?
Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 22:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SafariScribe thanks for your feedback. I deleted the draft for now while I get more sources. Regarding sources 7 and 8, they are available online directly from the magazine, e.g this one [1] but the full text is under a paywall. Most of the really good references are actually under paywalls. What should I do to use these? Also, regarding source 6, a “featured post” is not a promotional post, is just a front cover post, the two things are different. Jim Gama

[edit]

Your declining of Jim Gama was honestly baseless. Clearly you had no reason to even touch the Jim Gama page as you have no clue how important is the subject in the Kingdom of eSwatini and for researchers. To say published books and newspaper articles are unreliable sources is the worst hoghwash I have ever heard from a reviewer since I started contributing on Wikipedia. Hi Safesafari, I saw the message about my article, "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources." Does it need more sources or different sources? Thanks!

Thirdward544 (talk) 22:17, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Thirdward544 (talk page watcher) Generally I would suggest better sources. Also los the boldface, and drop words that are puffery. Any article that passes scrutiny deals with things that are notable. Lose the word, lose any similar words.
Decide if you are writing about the man or the buildings.
For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact cited, that meet these tough criteria is likely to make this draft a clear acceptance (0.9 probability). Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the person is not suitable for inclusion, certainly today. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:28, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for your recent move and cleanup of Darren Jones (politician). Could I ask you to avoid leaving links of the form Darren Jones? It's a small thing, but I'm on a WP:NOPIPE crusade.

Best wishes, Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 10:29, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jean-de-Nivelle, are you sure am the one? Can I get diffs because I doubt you? Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:54, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. For example, here, you changed Darren Jones to Darren Jones, when a better link would be simply Darren Jones. There are many other examples. It's not a big deal, and there's no need to clean them up, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 12:01, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the script didn't get the command. It was : Post-move cleanup, following swap of Darren Jones (politician) and Darren Jones: Changed link from Darren Jones (politician) to Darren Jones using Move+." Thanks though. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 12:15, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Armstead v Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company Ltd

[edit]

Dear SafariScribe,

Thank you for your very helpful comments/suggestions on this article so far - I think it is much improved. Thank you also for reviewing it so quickly.

Could you please let me know which specific areas of the article require reliable/verifiable sources? I have just reviewed the article and the "Facts", "Previous decisions" and "Judgment" sections are drawn from the Supreme Court decision, do you think that I should make this clearer, perhaps by references to the relevant paragraphs of the Supreme Court decision? The Supreme Court is I think (by reference to the verifiable sources guidance) "reliable, independent with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" and its judgment is of course a publication (which will be relied on by many lawyers) - but please let me know if this is not right for some reason - as you may have gathered, I am new to Wikipedia articles!

Thanks very much again. All the best, @Tsoko77 Tsoko77 (talk) 15:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see that at times you Decline a draft, the creator revises, you Decline again, the creator revises, you Decline again (Draft:Victor Arroyo). While I do not disagree with the weakness of the references in that example, perhaps Wikipedia would be better served if you avoid doing repeats. I suspect that for creating editors, especially those new to Wikipedia, this feels unfair, and that they would be better served with a different reviewer for resubmits. David notMD (talk) 10:14, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While I appreciate your comment @David notMD, I do like to tell you that the tea house and AFC help desk isn't there for nothing. I started using comments since the decline box doesn't give much for a new editor to know. I will then disagree with "...and that they would be better served with a different reviewer for resubmits.". You are not them, you are presuming, and I doubt it, however it will take them to the appropriate quarter. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:24, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@David notMD, I didn't quite understand your comment: "Wikipedia would be better served if you avoid doing repeats." I know you're one of the most dedicated editors, but honestly, such words aren't helpful (for me especially). Are you suggesting I should leave drafts, even if they're pure spam? One thing I've learned in recent months is the importance of encouragement. Reviewing isn't easy, and you know that, but I see your point. @Timtrent can explain better; he's one of my best resources. Theroadislong, 331dot, Jesse, and KylieTastic understand because we're all in this together. Regardless, I appreciate your feedback. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:47, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@David notMD (I'm pinging you because I was asked to comment). I'm not in favour of reviewing drafts more than once, because I see it as my duty to sort out egregious errors at the first review. Subsequent submissions I may comment upon but rarely review unless it's an obvious and immediate acceptance.
@SafariScribe It can be difficult when you see partial work done. It's all too tempting to jump in again, and, perhaps, again. I did this when I started. Then I started to understand that too many reviews by the same person, while I meant well, could seem like bullying by the recipient. This is hard for us as reviewers when we see repeated misunderstandings, but it's harder for the submitting editor. Even when asked to re-review I tell the requestor that "Other eyes than mine will get you a better review. I am not too close to it to be of much more help".
It's like when we create articles ourselves. We have to learn to be the new article's father, and let it run free and graze its knees, not to mother it and try to wrap it in warm towels to save it from harm. I let my reviews graze their knees. I do try very hard to answer queries. Sometimes I run into trouble that way if I am overbearing.
I hope that helps you understand my own perspective. If you find it useful, please adopt something similar 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:45, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have chosen to not be a Reviewer, so perhaps overstepped here. I will say that my sympathies are for novice editors who submit drafts, and feel that it is unfair/miunderstood when Declined by the same reviewer, often for the same reason as the first time, i.e., inadequate references, when the concept of what are valid versus invalid references is beyond them. David notMD (talk) 21:27, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@David notMD I think you made a valid and useful point, but might have phrased it a little differently. We all learn all the time. Yours is a point to learn from.
Reviewing is as tough as we make it, and carries a high burnout risk. If we approach burnout then we review poorly. When we start out, we review as well as we can. When we realise how unimportant we are, then we can do editors who use AFC a service by reviewing usefully. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:05, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, many thanks for reviewing this article. I don't understand the reason it was declined. You have mentioned that claims need to be backed up by reliable sources. I thought that is what I had already done as I have tried to cite well-established national newspapers for historical events; academic journals to verify that the author has written certain works or been appointed editor; university websites to verify an academic appointment; and UK legislation to verify that certain changes were made to UK child protection laws.

Please can you be more specific about which claims you feel are inadequately supported and/or which sources aren't adequately reliable.

Clearly it is not realistic to support every statement made in a BLP – for example articles don't usually provide sources to verify years of birth, and details of an individual's career history are often not backed up by citations – so it's tricky for me as a new author to understand exactly where supporting evidence is required and where it is not. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Draft: Wawa Gatheru

[edit]

Hi! Thank you again for taking the time to read my Draft: Wawa Gatheru. I was hoping to get more feedback about the notes that the sources are not reliable and that Wawa does not qualify for a Wikipedia article.

In regards to the sources, I tried to make sure to include a wide variety of what I believe are reliable news sources:

Newspapers: Washington Post, LA Times

Magazines: Forbes, Vogue (she has been featured twice), Teen Vogue, British Vogue, Essence, National Geographic, Grist

Reliable News Sources: GBH (which is NPR), WRVO (which is also NPR), WNYC

Well Regarded Nonprofits/Government Sites: National Parks Conservation, EPA

Numerous Colleges: UPenn, UConn, Yale, Williams College, Bryant University

In regards to qualifying for an article, she has won numerous awards for her work and is a leading voice for the Black community in environmentalism. I saw your note about just doing a Black Girl Environmentalist article, but respectfully, most of the articles are about Wawa and her story. She's the driving force behind BGE and most of the articles are about her story and the work she has been doing.

There are numerous other articles about similar climate activists that have been published on Wikipedia and Wawa seems to have received similar or more coverage and have similar or more qualifications for a Wikipedia article. Here are some that I have seen on Wikipedia: Maya Penn, Leah Thomas, Tori Tsui, Nalleli Cobo, Xiye Bastida.

Again, I'm new to writing articles, so I'd love some feedback on what I'm missing and what I need to add to get the article published. Thank you! Jonasstaff (talk) 18:04, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Stark draft

[edit]

Hi @SafariScribe, my draft article on Chris Stark, the UK's new head of net zero was declined. Which is fine. Before I go and edit though, I'd like to be clear on what the issue was specifically. Grateful if you could give me a steer :-)

Leaving aside Wikipedia's notability and referencing policies for a second, I am assuming that his notability is not objectively in question. He has been named the new UK Labour government's Net Zero czar by the Energy Security Secretary, one of Ed Miliband's first (if not *the* first) appointments since he has come into office. Stark was the subject of an official announcement on GOV.UK. He is one of the UK's leading experts on climate change, and was previously the CEO of the UK government's Climate Change Committee – the UK's main authority on climate change – for 6 years.

If he is not notable, then we need to talk about at least 20% of Wikipedia, who have got past the notability test. For example, how is it different to the article on Tom Delay, who absolutely should have an article on Wikipedia, but whose referencing is very similar. It sometimes feels this rule is not consistently applied (or maybe hasn't been in the past)?

So, to come back to my question, is the issue that the sources were not credible? The Guardian is a tier 1 newspaper, GOV.UK is the government's website, Business Green and Renewable Energy Magazine are credible trade publications, and Carbon Trust and the Climate Change Committee are reputable organisations. I thought this would easily clear the WP:THREE test, but I can accept that:

> Carbon Trust and the Climate Change Committee – though reliable sources in other contexts – might be considered too close to the subject.

> Business Green and Renewable Energy Magazine – though credible trade publications might not be well known outside the sector of energy and sustainability.

If that is the case, this is useful to know. So is it a case of one or two more Guardian-level references? That's ok – there are loads more articles that talk about Stark's work, from the FT, The Guardian, the New Statesman, the BBC. I just don't want to waste my time! :-) KTnow (talk) 13:46, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Boris FX

[edit]

Hi there. You removed this source as not being reliable on the draft article for Her Name Was Moviola. The Art of the Guillotine blog on the BorisFX website is by the highly respected and published author and expert Steve Hullfish, and is a legitimate and very long running series of interviews and articles about film editing. Saying “you don’t remember” Boris FX being a credible source is not very fair if you are unfamiliar with how highly regarded this industry publication is, considering the contributors are renowned and world leading experts in the field of film editing. Please could you look at what you consider to be reliable again and perhaps help some more because it feels like it was just your opinion as to what’s credible rather than knowledge of what’s credible that has removed many sources from the article. 82.34.255.209 (talk) 06:44, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Safari, I am awaiting on your opinion for my draft just above. Many people commented there, but I do not know if you saw. I am confused about all of that, i provided there examples and would appreciate your opinion. You declined my draft twice there, and you are the last person to decline it. Thank you. J2009j (talk) 18:58, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For example sources there for credits there are from all public available platform that show music credits fro composers. You pointed out to add a source for "In 2016, he wrote the song "All We Have Is Love" with Sabrina Carpenter". But the source is there. Moreover, the song has its own page on wikipedia, with approved sources, which also has his name there. You can check and see yourself. Sources are there, and page and name are there a long time. J2009j (talk) 21:29, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Same goes to discography, I just moved sources to the table, but they were there. On all publicly available platforms. Songs also have their own wikipedia pages, with his name included there. So do I have to add a source for every song credit as composer and writer? I think I would be pointless. J2009j (talk) 21:33, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we need to verify that from the source. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 21:35, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I replied- why is this website not reliable?https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/afsheen/credits/ or this https://www.allmusic.com/artist/afsheen-mn0002764358#credits It is public database, build on CDs and official records. When you look an other articles with the discography none of them have citation on every line for each song, but links to general credits available. I am not adding information about charts and rest, but just credits. J2009j (talk) 22:19, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Often, we don't need to cite an artist's discography if their songs already have a Wikipedia article. However, this is usually not the case for a producer. We need reliable sources that specifically identify them as the producer and provide details about their contributions to the music's production. Otherwise, we can't just take what was written in the song's article. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 21:39, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A dded there https://www.allmusic.com/artist/afsheen-mn0002764358#credits https://www.musicmetricsvault.com/artists/afsheen/5iwLVxdLzgm1cLrZunXzWR
In addition to other sources in the article. Plus, on the article about the songs, the CD is also added. You can check , same goes for all. So isn't it pointless go adding this for every single songs if there are over 20?

Teramaze (Band) draft

[edit]

Hi. You declined a draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Teramaze but you didn't say specifically what is lacking. Since this wasn't the first time the draft was declined, I've had previous discussions with editors and learned more about Wikipedia criteria, and provided the changes that were requested of me.

The omission of this article in Wikipedia is IMHO quite scandalous, I would first ask editors to convince themselves that this is an internationally renowned and appreciated band, with over a dozen solid albums published. It is not the greatest band in the world, but it is also not a border-line-notable band; I think it is well over that line. I think the problem might be that they are not very money-driven, and choose to do things modernly, avoiding record labels and dealing directly with their fans throught the Internet. Until Wikipedia modernizes its own criteria for appreciating this kind of band, it does create difficulties for editors. This is the era of Bandcamp, Youtube channels and Spotify... and Wikipedia is still looking for "old school" signs of notability.

BUT this band has also published with old-school labels, and has been dealt with in the specialized press (internationally), as my sources demonstrate. It has headlined festvals on the opposite side of the globe where they are from. So we really should be able to get this article "out the door", with the current wikipedia standards.

Please tell me specifically why you declined, what you think is missing that would make this acceptable. If some statements are not sufficiently sourced I could just remove them, I would favor getting the article published first, then getting it improved. Other than that, I've had the notability discussions with previous editors that had declined it, and I feel that I have provided what was asked.

Thank you for your revision and thanks in advance for your explanations. Callmepgr (talk) 10:44, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The band doesn't seem to meet WP:BAND. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:28, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This was discussed in several talks with previous editors and sources were added specifically to clarify this. So you have at least (quoting from your link to WP:BAND)

5. Has released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years, and with a roster of performers, many of whom are independently notable).

You can see that albums Anhedonia and Esoteric Symbolism are published on Nightmare Records which fits the description of "important indie label" whose roster (https://www.discogs.com/label/29981-Nightmare-Records-2) includes independently notable artists such as Balance of Power, Pyramaze, Prototype, Myrath, Anubis Gate. Their respective Wikipedia pages show charted albums etc.
Similar cases could be made for some of the other labels.
That should be enough, but I believe we can also grant that

1. Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.

... the most prominent would be the Heavy Magazine article I cited, a print magazine. Many others in online sources that are reputable in the Prog Rock niche.
Finally there are articles commenting on headlining (headlining!) international festivals.

4. Has received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country.

The part about "tours" I don't think is currently documented well-enough in the sources, but it could probably be done. However, this isn't critical to notability right now because the other elements suffice.
Please spend a couple of minutes Googling the band and take a look at concert images on Youtube, to convince yourself that this is not "my cousin's garage band". After that, if you still feel something is missing to fit Wikipedia criteria, please tell me helpfully in specific form, you could add this page, or that link, and that would suffice, and you would approve it. It's not productive to keep waiting months and going through successive editors that tell me to just add something and then after I add it, it isn't enough...
Thank you for your work on this, I appreciate it. Callmepgr (talk) 10:31, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Callmepgr, how have they been published in non trivial reliable sources? Purely, it lacks WP:SIGCOV and may end up as a redirect if possible in AFD. Maybe you should find more sources but remember that you can resubmit anytime since there is no deadline, and another reviewer will reviews the draft. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 21:47, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SafariScribe apologies if I might be missing something, I am still learning my way around Wikipedia after all these years. But if the published albums are enough to establish WP:BAND, is WP:SIGCOV (a more generic standard) still needed?
Regarding the significant coverage, there are several sources in the article which are full articles whose main subject is this band, like an album review or a concert review. I mentioned the HEAVY magazine one, because it is a bit more substantial than some of the others, since it's a large and established Australian print magazine. Does WP:SIGCOV require more than one?
I'm considering these, would any of them "tip the scales" to convince you?
https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-teramaze-eli-a-wonderful-fall-from-grace-wells-music/
https://www.therockpit.net/2019/interview-teramaze/
https://metalstorm.net/pub/review.php?review_id=19467
Or all of them? Do I have to weave them into the article text, or is it enough to add them as external links?
Thank you for your patience and your help. Callmepgr (talk) 11:48, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May I ask you, please, seriously to consider more use of comments, even though it will slow you down. We need to give folk all the pointers we can in order to persuade them to create better drafts. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:38, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly, I will Trent. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 22:45, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You may find the creation of a reasonably standard set to be useful. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:48, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SafariScribe You haven't responded to this: Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk#13:53:58, 23 July 2024 review of submission by 104.232.119.107 104.232.119.107 (talk) 00:09, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this. I agree.
There do seem to be several requests for assistance on this page from authors whose articles have been declined for 'lack of reliable sources' who are struggling to understand what is wrong with the sources they have already cited. If the aim is to provide actionable feedback in order to allow a draft to be improved, then it would be helpful if authors could receive more pointers. It seems ironic if a finding of 'lack of reliable sources' is itself not substantiated.
I appreciate that the more details a reviewer provides the longer it takes, and that reviewers have to balance the needs of individual authors with the wish to serve many authors by getting through many drafts. Nevertheless I think if a little more information were provided first time around, it would ultimately save time because authors wouldn't need to come back and request clarification. Klighed (talk) 14:39, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Timtrent and @Klighed for acknowledging the need for feedback – it can indeed be frustrating to have a draft rejected without a good explanation, especially when you think you have sourced it appropriately. And it can discourage members from submitting any further new articles in the future, which would be a shame. I'm sure that isn't the intention.
My question on the draft I submitted is still listed above. I feel I'm still (relatively) new here and I like to think I have approached Wikipedia editing in a polite and humble way. (And if my question above was phrased in an impolite way, I apologise). Everyone can't be an expert on everything! The point is it's hard to improve without specific feedback. (The generic guidance on the platform will only get you so far, I feel I'm at a point where I just need to try things – and sometimes fail, but understanding what a draft needs in order to be approved is key to this learning process. Anyway, I appreciate this recognition from senior editors, it makes me feel more confident about the process. KTnow (talk) 17:16, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@KTnow This disappoints me. I am too tired tonight. If you remind me tomorrow I will have a look. Please use my talk page to alert me any time after 0900 UTC 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:05, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To Safari's credit, they have slowed down but now they need to catch up on responding to queries. Some of them have been archived without response, granted a few did also ask at the Teahouse or AFCHD but not all. S0091 (talk) 18:29, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@S0091, I do reply or have answered them somewhere before archiving. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 18:53, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for picking this up @Timtrent and @S0091, @SafariScribe and I are on it now. Thanks all, appreciate it. KTnow (talk) 19:34, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I missed this. @KTnow, I'm very very sorry for the delay as it isn't intentional. I have and even recently adapted to adding clear comments to declined drafts and help some before accepting them. However, maybe you didn't link the draft for me to see. I apologize and please link it here for me to give feedback. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 18:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok @SafariScribe, I appreciate it. The link is: Chris Stark (climate expert). Look forward to hearing back – I have no doubt it can be improved, I'm just really interested in what specifically to look at. Thank you! :-) KTnow (talk) 19:32, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done: you wrote well and keep doing that. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 19:56, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the kind words @SafariScribe. KTnow (talk) 21:18, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to see this is being picked up.
My draft was rejected very quickly and I asked (User talk:SafariScribe#Request on 09:46:21, 26 July 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Klighed) feedback and haven't received any yet. I did get some useful pointers in the help chat, though to be honest I didn't understand all of them because in some cases what I was told clearly doesn't match the usual custom and practice for BLPs, which I can observe simply by browsing BLPs. Still mystified therefore about how to actually get an article published. Thank you in advance for any assistance. Klighed (talk) 15:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Klighed, I clearly explained the reason for declining your draft. You can view the diff at [2]. However, patience is important in situations like this. I hold no prejudice neither for not responding to your question about "why I declined your draft," nor for tagging others to weigh in on the decision. It also seems that you didn’t read the notice on my talk page. Per WP:COMMONSENSE, if someone doesn’t respond to your message, it’s better to ping them again in the same section, rather than in a different one, under the pretext of justifying the reviewer. Safely I’m frustrated by that, but I’m still willing to help if needed. Cheers! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 19:31, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SafariScribe, I'm not sure I understand your last message, which seems to be about procedure rather than the substance of my question.
Firstly, I'm not aware of having received a clear explanation of why the draft was declined. I noted the comment "since this is a BLP certain claims should be verified by a reliable source" and although I understand it in principle, I have a number of queries about how to apply it in practice: that is, while I did receive an explanation of sorts, I didn't find it clear. I created a section on this page in order to explain my questions in detail and request specific guidance. Instead of responding to my query, you archived it without comment. Unfortunately this doesn't enhance my understanding of how to improve the draft.
Secondly I'm not aware of having tagged anyone else. Or are you saying that you tagged other people but that you showed no prejudice in doing so?
Thirdly, I'm not sure what notice you are referring to when you say it seems that I didn't read your notice, but if it is the one at the top of this page saying that you are stressed and may be slow in responding to queries, yes I did read that. That is precisely why, instead of repeatedly pestering you with the same query (which I think is what you mean by pinging someone again in the same section??), I broadened out the enquiry to get help from other willing volunteers. I noted that you were very swift to review and decline the draft and I hoped that if you weren't available to follow up, others may be able to do so without the need to disturb you, so that I could get on with improving the draft. The comment declining my draft provided a direct link to your talk page and also said that if I had further questions I should ask others for advice, providing links to the Afc helpdesk and live chat. If I understand you correctly, your criticism is that in addition to raising my query in a separate section of your talk page, I also contributed to this section ("You are crunching through the drafts, which is great"), hoping the OP and others might find my perspective helpful. If that is indeed your criticism, and if replying to another section as well as creating my own section somehow breaches protocol or common sense, I can only apologise.
The diff that you reference appears to show that you added a full stop and deleted another. I think this is to do with Wikipedia's house style on citations. As far as I can tell from Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Punctuation and footnotes, the punctuation should have appeared before the references rather than after. Thank you for drawing attention to this stylistic issue. I have now edited the article, placing the punctuation in what I hope is the correct place with respect to the reference tags.
I still have significant substantive queries on the rejection of this draft, as explained in my detailed request for assistance. Please could you indicate either way whether you are in a position to address these queries. Klighed (talk) 11:54, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Klighed, you mean the social worker right? I saw it now in an archive that was wrongly transcluded to a wrong place or maybe multiple input or bug with the script. I also saw many unanswered queries. Give me time to sort the archives because I am a bit confused now. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 22:16, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that's right, Margaret Woodbridge (social worker). Thanks for picking up my reply -- as you can see, I'm a bit confused too. I'll hold off doing anything else till you've had a chance to check what's going on and hopefully we can resume the discussion at that point. Klighed (talk) 12:34, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
