DYK hook - McLaren M6A
I've proposed a further alternative hook for the McLaren M6A article on DYK, which I think combines your concerns while still maintaining the spirit of my original hook. Just a heads up. The359 (talk) 01:28, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Dzongkha
Hi Politizer, Dzongkha actually uses the Tibetan alphabet, so (as far as I know) Tibetan language support should be enough to display Bhutanese names. The standard practice for native versions of proper names seems to be to go ahead and use the Unicode versions (assuming the language has Unicode support), for example in Thimphu, Lhasa, and the text (but not the infoboxes!) of Bhutan and Dzongkha. I tend to agree with this approach, on the theory that sticking to Unicode text is simple and robust, while making up images to display text is a needlessly complicated work-around for the temporary problem of browsers that haven't caught up quite yet. But I am happy to provide the images: , .
Also, I really can't agree that putting foreign language names in an infobox "ruins Wikipedia;" it's one of the most helpful uses of an infobox! Otherwise, the lead of an article often ends up extremely choppy, broken up with many lines of parenthetical notes and alternate spellings that prevent the reader from finding more important information - like what the article is about! Here are a few bad cases: Muhammad, Lavrentiy Beria, Courland, Alexander Lukashenko. --Amble (talk) 06:19, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. It may unfortunately be the case that any long name in Tibetan causes similar problems for browsers that don't support it. Usually, you just get a row of boxes of the same length as the name itself, but Tibetan has various compound letters and instructions for stacking letters up, so I can easily imagine that the row of boxes grows out of control. I have no objection to using images instead, especially if somebody else is willing to take care of it! Let me know if there are any more names you want in SVG. It's just a simple copy & paste for me to create them. --Amble (talk) 18:10, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
DYK vague hook
Hi Politizer. I´ve just intended to support a new user and his/her fine first article (Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth). I added few inline citations and nominated it. Unfortunately, today I´m at work whole day, and my internet access is almost exclusively limited to wikipedia. I can´t find a better hook now. It is a pity. However, thank you for your notice. --Vejvančický (talk) 15:48, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

- Hi Politizer; I've said this before, and I will say it again, but thanks for all your help. Should I still try and expand the article? Because I can try! By the way, I've taken up on your offer to try and turn Runaways itself into a GA. I'll work on it heavily and peer review it before I nominate it again. Yours truly, A talk 02:06, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Okay! I've added a Style section - I should have done this earlier; I read before that Pride & Joy stood out a mile because it didn't feature any superhero stereotypes. I've also added an extra paragraph to Production. But Reception sort of looks small, and doesn't appear to have a wide range of reviews for Pride & Joy itself, so I guess I should expand it to a length similar to Production. I have tried in vain to copy and paste or drag and drop the ogg theora file but, I can find no way to copy/paste these files. Can you help me with this issue. The ogg theora file is topsy.ogg, it's Topsy the Elephant, it has it's own webpage. I am trying to copy it to HP Image Zone. I can't copy and paste any of these ogg files. These are the only files I've run into that I can't copy paste, drag and drop, or get any right click command to do anything with it, I can only copy the mpeg file of the shot on screen, not the video file. Apology accepted
Hey, Politzer. Thanks for the note on my talk page. I actually meant the comment about not liking zombie movies as a tongue-in-cheek joke. Most people think zombie movies are utter shlock. For whatever twisted reason, they do appeal to me. As I noted on the DYK page, I have no stake in this particular movie, I just thought it was a good eye-catching hook on an interesting topic. Cbl62 (talk) 21:40, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you sir, may I have another?
I saw your edits on Pigs in the City, and I addressed the needs you noted. Lexington Barbecue Festival could use your skills as well. It is a much larger article. I created both, and it is obvious that I wasn't an English major. The info is there and cited well (I believe) and I did the photography as well, but it really could use another set of eyes with a better grasp of proper grammar and layout. If you have the time and choose to, I would be grateful. I moved to Lexington 2 years ago and find their facination with pigs pretty funny. Thanks again. I think this other article is pretty close to being "good" with the right help. DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 22:40, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- I added a note to dyk. I did a little work to the article Pigs in the City, adding real info and captions. I would obviously be hugely flattered if it made dyk, but not expecting it. I've done over 8k edits but never a dyk. Anyway, thanks. DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 23:38, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- And added 5 more images. Yes, it has a pretty big gallery now, but it is an article on an arts initiative. DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 00:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Lexington Barbecue Festival looks much better. The OR claims can be met once I clean up the citations and use them properly, they are just buried in the cites which are a mess (needs a complete cite rewrite, which I can do). This really helps, and gives me a better platform to expand the article from. Would love to get it to at least GA quality over the next couple of months. Might even make an interesting FA some day, but then again, I like unusual cultural stuff on the front page. Thanks again for the objective look and fixes. DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 12:15, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

- late hook - I added it to the next one ... its my first use of the bot and I want to keep it low risk so although it might squeeze in, I'd prefer to leave a safety space

Vancouver - "this again?"
Hi
Re: this revert. It looks like Vancouver has been noticed by the Nimbley6 troll. This troll has an obsession with Scottish topics and flags (among other things), and one of its pet activities is making sure that Socttish twin-towns are in Scotland, and English/Welsh/Northern Irish twin-towns are in the United Kingdom.
My advice is simply to continue to revert on sight. Unfortunately the troll has a dynamic IP address and knows how to use it, so range-blocking - or even basic blocking - aren't effective.

DYK November 5 Manjampatti White Bison
- Politzer, Thanks for reviewing this hook. The interpretation that the facts here are originial research is debatable.
- Ref stated as personal communication is actually a public communication:
"You may quote me for the white bison report as it is first-hand and completely authentic."
- This ref is not my observation. It was sent to me (secondary source) unsolicited by the primary source, George Rosen, a resident of Kookal, whom, after researching him, I consider reliable, though I've never met or heard from him before.
"This is to inform you that on a weekend in the first week of May 2007 I had taken a couple from Madras trekking and we did see a wild white bison above Manjampatty Valley."
- This is verifiable by the couple who were with Mr. Rosen, and also saw the Bison. Granted, the fact has not been published in a peer reviewed journal or even a local newspaper, but I used it in good faith. Though I'm not trying to Ignore all rules, I do agree that:
- Only photo or film documentation could be more reliable in this unusual one time observation.
- I'm interested in what other well experienced DYK reviewers think on this reference and if it is acceptable for this DYK hook. I will accept and learn from the consensus, Whatever. Marcus (talk) 01:13, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject: Dungeons & Dragons
Hi! I’ve been working on a lot of ‘’Dungeons & Dragons’’ articles lately and saw that you have too, and am inviting you to rejoin Wikipedia’s D&D group. I've been hard at work removing tags placed inappropriately on D&D articles, as well as modifying articles to remove tags that were placed legitimately. In addition, I have been compiling related articles together so that the articles are longer, making it easier to remove tags and to have short articles on lesser topics by just putting it into another appropriate article (links to such compiled articles can be found on my userpage). Check out the project here , and ask any questions that you may have here. Thank you for your time. -Drilnoth (talk) 13:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Fata MOrgana DYK
I responded on the DYK page, but I'd like to repeat it here too please:
Thanks, Politizer. I believed the hook should have been interested for Wikipedia readers, but whatever... I withdraw the nomination. I only would like to add that I enjoyed working on the article and learning something new in the process, and that IMO, if such an interesting matter as Fata Morgana cannot be featured ad DYK, there ought to be something wrong with the rules of DYK nominations. I also hope that Wikipedia readers, who are interested in mirages will find the article without DYK.--Mbz1 (talk) 18:13, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
TSV Gerbrunn
Don't worry, I'm not in any way upset, after all, its only suggestions for DYK and we can't expect every one to be picked. I've had plenty go through in the past and I've got two more still on the list. Regarding the TSV article: TSV Gerbrunn was one of three losers being picked for the German Cup in 2003. What happens is, that the German football association every season awards a place to each regional cup winner, of which there are 21, to enter next years cup competition. Additionally, the three losers from the three largest regional federations also get a spot, to make up the numbers, Bavaria being one of them. What makes Gerbrunn stand out is not the fact, that it advanced as a loser, every year, three clubs do, but the fact that it lost 0–14 and then did the same thing again in the first round of the German Cup, thats very unusual. If you can see how to make something out of it, let me know. If not, no big deal, you win some, you lose some and I'm sure I can get some other bizarre Bavarian football fact on the the front page some other day! - Wait a second here. I know forum threads are not always reliable sources of fact, but the information is contained in the content of the forum itself. That policy was obviously meant to discourage people from referencing forum threads where facts are uncheckable, but the "O-Chul Facts" only exist in the forum thread--they are not referencing any source of fact which could be corrupted. This should be a viable exception to the rule against referencing with forum threads, since the spirit of the rule did not account for such a situation.--Jtle515 (talk) 19:51, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry about a dab page unless there were three or more individuals by the name. Also, I added some more criticism to qwell any possible notability concerns. This is one of Wordsworth's most anthologized pieces, so it shouldn't be too big of a concern. Anyway, thanks. Ottava Rima (talk) 22:24, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I forgot to add - I think the five part nom is more adequate, because it doesn't have any technical issues about the theme. I added a small bit on the Wordsworth early life bio right now to secure "death" as an important theme of the 1799 poems. Its a five part nom, and 8 characters shorter, so it shouldn't have any problems. Ottava Rima (talk) 22:26, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Best wishes, – How do you turn this on (talk) 23:46, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, what a compliment! I really appreciate your approval; I see your name popping up a lot and I actually thought you were an admin as well. Anyway, at the moment I think I am too busy to deal with the kind of stuff admins have to deal with (although I spend far too much time here anyway, so I don't see much difference) and, like you said, I haven't been here very long and still have a lot to learn. But thank you very much for your message! Happy editing, —Politizer talk/contribs 00:03, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

DYK Survival of the Shawangunks
Hey Politzer,
Wanted to make sure that my comments on the DYK talk page weren't lost regarding the uniqueness of the seven transitions of the SOS. I agree, it's not possible to verify that it's unique, and the article as it stands claims that it's unusual instead. Will that work?--otherlleft (talk) 16:44, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I'm not convinced that Stormy Ordos is Nimbley6: SO seems to have a far higher level of communication skills than Nimbley6! I think some of the flag edits were questionable, but probably in good faith - SO removed a claim that Montpellier was twinned with Glasgow, for example - Nimbley6 would leave the claim unchecked and simply add a Scottish flag.
Thanks again, Cheers This flag once was redpropagandadeeds 19:36, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- ...but 78.149.103.134? Definitely! Good catch, that was classic Nimbley6 - Scottish issues, twin-town nonsense, flags...

Hook length
Hi P., this is just a response to a note you left on the suggestions page yesterday. After I said a hook was "too long" you pointed out that it was only 189 chars, and that the limit is 200. My comment however was in reference to the guideline at the top of the page, which states that "the 200-character limit is an outside limit not a recommended length".
Basically, hooks should be as concise as possible while still retaining the salient facts, the ideal length of a hook is probably no more than 150 chars, the 200 char limit is really just there for those occasional hooks that need more space to express a complex idea. Shorter hooks are almost always preferred.
BTW, thanks for all your help around DYK recently. Much appreciated! Gatoclass (talk) 00:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Your verification of hooks at T:TDYK
When verifying hooks at T:TDYK, please be sure not just to check verifiability, article length, date, etc, but also the length of the hook itself. The hook you verified for November 10, Louis Dicken Wilson - ... that upon his death in 1847 Louis Dicken Wilson left Edgecombe County the substantial sum of $40,000 but that only $12,000 was properly utilized, while $10,000 was lost to bad investments and $18,000 skimmed of by government officials during the Southern Reconstruction? -- is over 230 characters and even if we did not have that limit of 200 characters, it is a bit run-on sounding anyways. Your review of my DYK hook under November 11
Please reconsider your review. Lists are most certainly acceptable at T:DYK, and the total chars on the page is definitely well over the standard needed. The list fits all of the necessary criteria and I have been waiting for days for it to be reviewed and confirmed, there is nothing wrong with it and it should be passed as wholly appropriate. Thank you. Cirt (talk) 06:51, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- 2,973 characters of cited text - and that is with all of the formatting removed. The page was created on November 11. The page is over 1,500 of cited WP:V text. The hook information is cited to WP:V inline-cites. Cirt (talk) 06:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
It is quite disappointing, to say the least, after the amount of work that went into creating that list, and working on it and citing every single entry on the list to multiple citations. I am in the process of expanding the main body text, and hopefully will be able to satisfactorily resubmit for consideration at T:TDYK. Cirt (talk) 07:46, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

I have expanded the body text with over 2,700 chars of WP:V cited material, and resubmitted. Please reconsider again for review for possible appearance at T:DYK. Thank you. Cirt (talk) 08:38, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough
You wrote on my (Darkmanfan) talk page: "Stop being a dick.". Let me be the first to say: fair cop. Baiting others to get them involved in another discussion was a low thing to do. I appreciate that you intervened on my behalf anyway. I'm new around here. Is there some way I can upmod/bump/show-my-appreciation? --Darkmanfan (talk) 02:45, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- That's exactly what I was doing and it won't happen again. Passions overrode prudence. If you don't mind my asking a painfully newb question, I would ask what the correct WP channels are for dealing with such meta issues (e.g. articles X,Y,and Z treat reference B this way, but H,I, and J treat it another). It seems awkward to have such conversations on a given article page. Is there anything like arrogate pages or something similar? Again, my apologies. Thanks for the needed admonishment. It won't happen again. --Darkmanfan (talk) 03:07, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Your point about the danger to random readers is well taken. I recognize that not only was I an ass (not to drive that point into the ground), but dodged a bullet regarding consequences as well. I will take your advice regarding constructing an interlinking series of cases. Also, these "WikiProjects" you linked to seem to be exactly what I was looking for. My biggest confusion regarding Wikipedia so far has been its myopia (i.e. you're always editing a particular page). These seem to mitigate this somewhat. Thanks for your time and patience. --Darkmanfan (talk) 03:35, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Politizer, the photo for Jiang Yuyuan is not from the Olympics but from a gymnastics show in Hong Kong. The whole China gymnastic team went to Hong Kong to perform for Hong Kong's public after the Olympics. I know because I am the one who acquired and uploaded the photo and I actually saw the show in Hong Kong. You can go to the photo's original link to check for yourself. Falun Gong
While I appreciate your efforts in mediating the dispute, I still think that it's better to phrase the term of FLG ban (in the PRC and Epoch Times articles) somewhere along the lines of "the PRC government launched a crackdown of FLG, considered by many human rights groups as religious persecution [add sources]." In this way, we can demonstrate that many HR groups see the ban as a religious persecution, while avoid publicly endorsing one view over another per WP:WTA.--PCPP (talk) 12:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
DYK notes
First of all, thanks for your hard work verifying hooks at DYK. But due to some of your "questions" on mine and other's hooks I feel I need to point out a couple things.
- Point 1: Please always remember the point of DYK, The DYK section gives publicity to newly created or expanded Wikipedia articles, as a way of thanking the editors who create new content and to encourage other editors to contribute to and improve that article and the encyclopedia. Which is to say it is about rewarding the editor, not about featuring the article. The reward to the editor is the featuring of the article. So we need to try as hard as possible to get the article onto the template while still abiding by the DYK rules. Thus your objection to the Vicki Berger hook of mine (which you re-worded to work for you) falls outside of the goal of DYK, and had no basis in the rules (that is to say nowhere does it say the hook has to be about the article's subject). That may be preferable, but it is very, very, very secondary to the stated goal of DYK to reward the editor.
- Point 2: Interesting is the rule. Not unique. Now unique can be interesting, but not always. I am the only person at my law school with my name. Very unique, but very boring and uninteresting. Which takes us to interesting, which is very subjective. What I find interesting, you may not, and vice versa. That's why I've argued in the past on DYK that if you don't find something interesting, fine, but you should not disqualify an article. Simply leave it for someone else to come along, and they may find it interesting. And since the goal of DYK is more about rewarding the authors, I think this is more inline with that goal than disapproving of hooks because one does not find it interesting enough to you. If nobody finds it interesting, then so be it and no one will approve it.
I hope I am not offending you, I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this and to avoid future protracted discussions on the talk page. Aboutmovies (talk) 19:29, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Spoonerism article
Hello. I tried to cite something for that "flutterby" v. "butterfly" statement in the article on Spoonerism which I had visited for other reasons. I had NOT put in the original statement which had been objected to. The only thing I could reasonably find was in the Urban Dictionary, albeit somewhat specious. You removed my note without discussion. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 22:56, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you. I was simply trying intellectually to find any mention of it anywhere and failed except there in the "Urban Dictionary" which is admitted not authoritative and the entry seemed to have been made in it by a non-scholar. I've asked around and also look it up and wind up with nothing tangible except its cleverness. You'd think if it were true, someone would have mentioned it in the literature. I think it might be better deleted until it can be verified which to my satisfaction, it cannot be right now. Many thanks. I knew I was off my normally tedious scholarly path when I cited it. Bests. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 23:02, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

User:Billy Hathorn
I'm a bit concerned about several of the recent DYK's created by User:Billy Hathorn that have been allowed on the main page. Take a look at these The Californians (TV series) (not a single good resource), The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show (several shady refs), The Greatest Show on Earth (TV series), (more of the same issues), Roger Mobley (the main source is the subjects own website), Window on the Plains Museum (resource 3?), and Don Collier (similar issues). I investigated this because I have declined DYKs for this user before for using IMDB and I was wondering why he kept on submitting articles with that as a source. Now I know. Do you think I should say something about it at DYK?Nrswanson (talk) 02:22, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes I agree. I think a greater concern though is that this displays an inconsistancy among reviewers which is unsettling. I'd like to find out who gave the above articles a DYK tick because they deserve a hand slapping. These articles should never have made it to the main page. If we aren't consistant then users like Billy will continue to submit inferior articles with the hopes of slipping them in under the radar.Nrswanson (talk) 02:29, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. I myself could be culpable in some way as well (I review so many it's hard to remember if I was involved in one of these or not). Hi Politizer. I have written an alternative hook for the double nom. Thanks for checking. Listed buildings in the UK are decided upon and administered by a government-backed non-departmental agency, so there is some official "clout" behind the decision to list a building or structure. I don't know whether there is the same official status in the USA with regard to the NRHP ... is it done at a state level, perhaps? Anyway, there are about 370,000 listed buildings in the UK, so lists compiled at city or borough level are the way to go, in my view. Regards, Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 09:10, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

- I think I fulfilled all requirement for the DYK nom. I briefly added the function in the intro after your last visit which is already in the section of "Significance of the image". I did not write the article, but tried hard. You seem to be a perfectionist: an article with DYK does not mean that every information or details are presented at the time of nom; only minimum requirements for readers to understand its content clearly with reliable and verifiable sources in a neutral tone. I appreciate your hard work, but I get the impression. --Caspian blue 15:49, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- I know your comments were only good-faith intended to encourage me and the author to implement necessary in-line sourcing in time. However, the function of the screen is already addressed in the article even though it is not as much clearly stated as you want. Honestly, I felt the impression of "perfectionist" from your last visit. --Caspian blue 16:04, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

You recently moved the article "Cannabinoid Receptor 1 Antagonists: Drug Discovery and Development", but you made a serious spelling error in the new title (you wrote "Cannaboid" not "Cannabinoid"). Could you change this error or move the article back to the original title? bida (talk) 09:01, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

You're very rude. While it hasn't been documented online to my knowledge, public security is well known by residents for disregarding the rights of minors. DYK
Hi, I think that DYK hooks about history can contains words or terms used in history sciences; DYK hooks about musicians can contain terms from music science and so on. Look at DYK now: for example:
- that the success of Gay Weddings as counterprogramming to Super Bowl XXXVII led television network Bravo to develop additional LGBT-interest programming, including Queer Eye and Boy Meets Boy?
- ... that Dr. Jay Katz, who escaped from Nazi Germany to the U.S. in the 1930s, opposed use of data from Nazi human experimentation, because "we cannot separate the data from the way they were obtained"?
They normally contain many technical terms. So DYK hook about biology can contain biologial terms. It is fault of a reader if he/or she/or you do not understand it. You would be too rigid if you do not want to change your mind.
According to your personal opinion of quoting. See for example article Viviparus georgianus. It is no problem to quote original description this way. But when using many other PD text, there is normally need to improve it, to reorder it and so on. It is good to improve this matter but not while verifying DYK hook. I hope there is better place on wikipedia to discuss it about how to quote such texts. Let me to know when you will find such better way. Thanks for cooperation. --Snek01 (talk) 17:11, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Lajjun DYK Nomination
Hi, thanks for the message. I fixed the hook character count. Its just below 200 now. The legend wasn't restricted to the 10th century, but spanned until even after the 13th. --Al Ameer son (talk) 17:24, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I just saw your message. Should I take it the DYK has been verified, and if so could you mention so on the page? Ironholds (talk) 19:19, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

- Yup; as explained at talk:dyk I found one, but it is a subscription-only 'site and might be a bit difficult to check. Ironholds (talk) 19:35, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- So add the "by the time he graduated..." bit inside the article? wouldn't I then need to change the dyk hook? Ironholds (talk) 19:37, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Works for me. I'll change it, you verify it. Ironholds (talk) 04:54, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Revert
I tried to use the preview button, but the changes don't show up.96.53.149.117 (talk) 22:27, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, Politizer, please assume good faith and don't bite the anons. It's clear that 96.53 was not vandalizing or test-editing International Phonetic Alphabet but making a good-faith effort to adjust the display of the table. —Angr 22:30, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about using "rvv" in the edit summary; I meant to use "rv test" but "rvv" has gotten into my muscle memory and I didn't even notice until after I had saved the edit. Anyway, I personally don't see a difference between the current version and the old version, but maybe it's a browser thing. —Politizer talk/contribs 22:35, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
- Oh ... . That might be right; some browsers show spaces/changes, others don't. FWIW, there is a difference, in that there's a bit of extra space, which [looks] unnecessary, and deviates from the layout of other articles [in terms of space (spacing between text, spacing between images, etc. etc.)].

- On another note, since you brought up the sandbox, it is very time consuming to do that. Although, I'm not saying it is not a great\good idea, I think there is something wrong with mediawiki, or whatever program wiki{s} run under. If it's not displaying, then obviously, it shouldn't be within the preview of Editor.96.53.149.117 (talk) 22:45, 22 November 2008 (UTC)And it should be brought up at bugzilla.96.53.149.117 (talk) 22:46, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Politizer, thanks for your review of the the Dalberg hook. I've added a US department of state report that quotes the Dalberg report I mention. It does not mention the word "crucial" though. What do you suggest? Should I reword the hook? Zithan (talk) 06:59, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Why don't take a look at the ratio of being accepted into Harvard ... This year alone they only accepted 1700 students from nearly 28000 applications. Do your research. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fantasia 15 (talk • contribs) 05:21, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I am glad you know where Harvard is, I was getting worried about you for a minute ... Harvard is the oldest insitution in the U.S. and the issue is not just that everyone that has ever gone to Harvard is notable, but even being accepted is a very distinguished honor. You mostly have to retain pretty impressive acumen and intelligence to even get in, and don't forget how many notable individuals have come out of there. The Guidlines are clear in the WP:bio, it is not just only about how famous you are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fantasia 15 (talk • contribs) 05:40, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- With all due respect if I am cherry picking, you are nit picking ... WP is not about self reflection or whether someone became notable, whether they attended Community College or not, and Haravrd is a just another part of notability for this equation, besides so many other accomplishments she has made. --Fantasia 15 (talk) 05:55, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Whatever ... I have feeling you are still stuck in Kansas. I know you are a big part of wackypedia not WP since you mentioned I was impolite for defending my position. Then let me make it crystal clear, some of you, not all, sound like rejects of Society. There at least now you have a real reason to call me rude.--Fantasia 15 (talk) 08:25, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
1996 Orange Bowl DYK fix
Thank you for the clarification and the weblink. I'm always hesitant to include a Web site link to a page that is behind a pay wall, though I'd definitely agree that one in this case is justified since the relevant information is available in the article preview. DYK response
Hi, I took a look at the DYK talk page and was surprised at all the discussion there. I used to submit quite a few DYKs (I think I have 74 now) but became discouraged by the lack or organization and the way my last submissions fell by the wayside for no reason.
Has the overall situation improved do you think? I used to try to help out, but because discouraged by that also. Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 21:10, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- I think that with creations of templates such as DYKproblems, informing editors there are issues, have been very helpful. Additionally, the system has a system of clerks, who verify hooks, and ensure articles are suitable to be linked from the front page - they do a good job most of the time. Compared with FAC, I have found the editors who work on DYK to be a lot more friendly and positive in their editing styles. – How do you turn this on (talk) 23:58, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Lolcat source
Hmm I dunno about that source. I had it as a potential one, but as you say, written by a high school student... not sure what to make of it. Is there anything in that source that's not in any of the others? (I really need to get rewriting the entire article from scratch, but so little time...) – How do you turn this on (talk) 09:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, there doesn't seem to be much there. I was throwing it in just to have something, but considering how much you've already compiled, that source probably won't contribute much. —Politizer talk/contribs 14:09, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
My DYK Nom
Hi Politizer. Would you mind taking a look at DYK nom Tessa Ludwick and helping me get on the right track for approval. I think that the present conversation there is not going forward. Thanks. -- Suntag ☼ 08:10, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the vetting. I went back to the template talk page looking for the nom and it was gone. My first thought were 'did someone delete it?' I knew better and found it in the queue. However, we really should have a notification program where the nominator is notified the moment their hook is moved from the template talk page into the queue to give the nominator a little peace of mind. And if you are in the vetting mood, I have another DYK nom that could benefit from such attention. (I spent about eight hours writing that article.) -- Suntag ☼ 16:09, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
