Speedy deletion of Syal Antilles Fel

I noticed you added your name to the list of participants in WikiProject Orphanage. We really appreciate your help! The first things you could do to get started with us are:

  1. Read the Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage page, especially the section marked "Criteria". The page contains a lot of good advice to get you started, as well as the standard procedures we are using to de-orphan articles.
  2. Look at {{orphan}},{{do-attempt}}, and {{articleissues}} closely and make sure you know how to use them correctly. (It's not difficult, but it is easy to screw up. Trust me, I have.)
  3. Keep de-orphaning! Category:Orphaned articles contains all orphaned articles organized by month. Right now we're just trying to keep up with all the new orphans being created, so please start with the current monthly category. Once those are cleared out, we can start working on the backlog in reverse-chronological order.
Of course, you may have already known all of this, in which case sorry for the spam. Either way, let me know if there's any way I can help you contribute more to the project!

Sorry, but a forum thread can't be used to verify; see Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources.
And yes, I know what {{Fact}} is, you don't need to remind me of that. That is used to mark something in an article that is not referenced but could be. When I see something that looks entirely like original research and almost certainly has no reliable sources out there to verify it, I remove it. A forum thread does not meet Wikipedia's definition of a reliable source. The only way you could have a reliable source for this is if something like a newspaper or something ran a story about how this joke was showing up on OOTS boards. The OOTS boards themselves are not, and will never be, a "reliable source," because anyone can post anything they want—there is no standard for review. Thanks for uploading File:Losthorizons.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Your edit summary was unwarranted. I did not claim to have fact checked anything. I undid an UNEXPLAINED DELETION, just like I said in my edit summary when I reverted a deletion that was done without any edit summary at all. The whole thing could have been avoided if the IP editor who removed the content had just left an edit summary explaining why. Backlog drive

WikiProject Orphanage is holding a month long Backlog Elimination Drive to de-orphan articles which have orphan tags!

If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

Thanks for uploading File:Arming points.jpeg, which you've attributed to Aleksei Sosnovsky. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Hi, I agree with you that it'd be nice to find a good account of the differences between the film versions of Éomer and Tolkien's. However, with today's standards for the project, we would need to have reliable sources for such comparisons; we can't wing it in proto-Wikipedia c. 2006 style any longer. I've found the useful book Picturing Tolkien which offers many such comparisons, including two that I've now put into the article, but there's certainly scope for more ... if you know of any suitable sources.
