Flight 249 passenger

Hi Grsz11,

I fully agree that the passenger from Flight 249 was unrelated to the incident. However, as different pieces of information have been in the media about both the Flight 249 and the Flight 253 passenger, I think it's important to inform the reader on what relevant parties are now agreeing on. That's why I have included the additional information. (In addition, a reliable source has found it appropriate to include the information in a report on Flight 253, so this is not my personal opinion.) Regards.  Cs32en  03:17, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

An individual held for immigration issues is not related to the incident and irrelevant to mention at that article. It is relevant to include information on the other individual from the same flight, which I left. Additionally, I feel the conspiracy theories of one man looking for his 15 minutes of fame are also not appropriate to include here. 03:21, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict) You have reverted my last edit, stating that the information would not be important. Do you think it is less important than some other content of the article, e.g. the following sentence?

A flight attendant asked the suspect what he had in his pocket, and the suspect replied: "Explosive device."

Actually, my recollection is your objections to the image at the 253 article were at a time that the Senior Republican on one of the two most significant U.S. committees was reporting as to what Obama administration sources and sources with access to intelligence were reporting to him in turn, as reflected in RSs. That's not "mere speculation". Your effort to quash that wasn't, IMHO, a helpful one, nor rooted in wikipedia policies. As far my other comments, we could look at discussion at your RfA, for starters, but I don't think we really need me to provide diffs -- you know what I am referring to.

Dollar sign

We are getting too close to minutiae. A dollar sign in front of the endowment for St. John's University's on Utopia Parkway in Queens, New York, USA represents U.S. dollars. A dollar sign in front of the endowment for Guelph University in Guelph, Ontario, Canada is in Canadian dollars. I do not oppose writing about NHL players' salaries and making the distinction between which nation's dollars go into the salary. The point is so many people make bad additions to Wikipedia. I like to undo vandalism and generally protect Wikipedia from bad additions. That is not wasting time. You are the one who wastes time with your minutiae. I want to make Wikipedia better. Maybe what you did is not vandalism in the sense that a writer enters a curse word in a Wikipedia entry. But patronizing users does not make Wikipedia better.

You are 68.80.200.60, at least earlier today or yesterday. You did enter the notion that the University Guelph uses U.S. dollars. You probably didn't realize it because you were chewing through universities and colleges at a rapid pace.

A benefit of Wikipedia is that it gives people an opportunity to learn something new. It is not the multiplication of minutiae that we all know already. I visited the Wikipedia style manual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28dates_and_numbers%29#Currencies). The style manual is consistent with my point of view.

This is what it said.

Formatting

Use the full name of a currency on its first appearance (52 Australian dollars); subsequent occurrences can use the symbol of the currency (just $88), unless this would be unclear. The exception to this is in articles related entirely to US-, EU-, or UK-related topics, in which the first occurrence may also be shortened ($34, €26, and £22, respectively), unless this would be unclear, and in places where space is limited such as tables, infoboxes, and parenthetical notes. When there are different currencies using the same symbol, use the full abbreviation (e.g. US$ for the United States dollar and AU$ for the Australian dollar, rather than just $) unless the currency which is meant is clear from the context.

You've misinterpreted the most-often misinterpreted Wikipedia policy. IAR says "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it." Hope for Haiti

In the, particular case of Hope for Haiti, I was presenting the subject matter in a neutral point of view. You'll find that the Good Friday Appeal, held in Victoria, Australia, annually since 1931, raises over $10 million every year ($13.8 million in 2009). This is just for one hospital, not an entire country, and draws from a population of merely 5 million, as opposed to the 300 million that live in the United States. Despite these facts, the Good Friday Appeal is not widely publicised around the world in patriotic fashion, it's not about publicity, it's about raising money for a hospital. They are also able to offer running tallies! I live in Australia and there has been massive criticism of 'Hope for Haiti', such criticism is well founded, especially when you consider that a large portion of the donations came from a handful of wealthy celebrities.

I am under the impression that WP policies regarding verifiability and reliable sources are in need of amendment and despite such, are always open to questioning and suggestion. I am positive there are many sources that stand up to current WP policy, which I can use to cite my contributions if I had the time (I am only one person in a sea of nationalist partiotism) but I get the feeling this article is presented in a biased manner and such criticisms of the 'Hope for Haiti' fund raising is frowned upon, even within the WP community.

Swallow your pride and face up to the realities that the fundraiser has raised more in publicity and advertising for United States entities and individuals than it did for the victims of Haiti. The Black Saturday bushfires killed a mere 173 people and yet 22 million Australians were able to muster over $370 million! Present the article's subject matter in a neutral point of view and cite those sources that are out there. The bias within the article as it stands is totally pathetic. Hi Grsz11, I noticed you deleted the COI tag from Armik. If you check the article history, the edit summaries itself indicate this COI. Plus, as was pointed out more than a year ago, the content of the article is a direct copy of armik.com/bio (copyright vio). I try not to get involved with politics anymore, just sticking to article contributions, but this article has some serious NPOV/tone problems, and the COI does not seem insignificant to me. Why are you threatening me with a block? Both ABC news and antiterrorism analysts at NEFA agree that Duane Reasoner's views and relationship with Nidal Hassan are worth noting. Your threat appears that you favor deletion of edits sourced from reliable sources, which is behavior that should be sanctioned. What is your opinion of Reasoner's role in Fort Hood? Do you believe that he ever had conversations with Hasan about martyrdom operations? Why do you think he asked Muslim Revolution about martyrdom operations if he didn't believe Hasan was contemplating them? Why do you believe that Reasoner, along with Revolution Muslim and Awlaki evidently justified the operation against "soldiers being sent to kill Muslims?" please fix or revert

When you changed the name of the article in the midst of the AfD (moving Arrest of Two New Jersey Men Bound for Somalia to Arrest of New Jersey men bound for Somalia ... saying your edit was capitals, though it was apparently more than that) it had the effect (which I am sure was not intentional on your part) of delinking the rescue link to the AfD page.

RE: LU Women's Hockey

Yeah, there's been some mentions of it in other AfDs that a team like LU women’s or the LU men's team may meet the notability guidelines even as ACHA DI teams anyway: 1) with their championships, record breaking, etc… 2) NAIA schools so the hockey team is run by the athletic department like NCAA programs and not like a club program. But 3) was the final straw before I created it- that they're transitioning to NCAA DI (the news has taken a back seat to all of the Penn State news. Note: I also more recently created as those programs are moving to NCAA DI too.

Aside form teams meeting notability outside of just being an ACHA hockey team, the only other ones that could have articles would be Kent State and Ohio (programs that were NCAA DI programs that dropped) and any other PSU's and LU moving up to DI (I don't believe there's anymore yet/right now). Thanks for the clarification. I think the issue here then is that certain users flood already backlogged pages (DYK, VP, GA) with subpar nominations or articles, and even if half of them are rejected, they still come out with a number of good ones. Grsz¹¹ 15:43, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

You are welcome! While I agree that those three are getting flooded, particularly GAN, I'm not sure how many sub-par noms there are from the other competitors. The only complaints I have seen are concerned with Tony's submissions. Do you have any examples of others doing the same thing so I can take care of it? I don't know of any others, I just didn't single him out in my first message. I have DYK watchlisted, and saw the problems there. Then I checked WP:GAC. About 20 nominations there alone. Planet Earth Live is barely more than stub. A number (ex: 1973–74 Buffalo Braves season) were failed due to lack of detail, barely expanded, and nominated again a couple weeks later. Under WP:GAN#SPORT there are 9 different articles nominated at the exact same time. I don't disapprove of the WikiCup, and am considering signing up for 2011. This isn't anybody else involved there's fault, but I think a good many people are wondering when something will be done. Grsz¹¹ 19:26, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I reverted your edit because you just destroyed the continuity of that section.

As for your claims, I don't see any standards/templates set for what a player's season recap should include. I know the team season recaps are very suspect in not giving out much information, and certaintly not enough for individual players. I think those articles are poorly done, and I'm not interested in improving them. I do not like the prose-style recaps on this site because it becomes way too boring to read line after line of "In week X of the XXXX season, Player X did this and that against Team X in a XX-XX win/loss..." For the longest time that's how Drew Brees' 2009 season (a great individual season that deserves better writing) read. It still has some of those problems.

The way I've done it gives it structure. You don't have to repeat who the opponent was, what week it was or the result. And these are NFL players. They'll play 16 games a year, 20 at the most with the playoffs. I'm not writing what a NBA or MLB player did in 82 or 162 games. It's a small sample. Write a sentence or two for each game and you're talking 16-40 sentences at the most. Hardly creates a long section.

I really suggest you look at Denard Robinson (Michigan QB) and his current season recap. He has sub-sections with lots of text for each individual game this year. And you know what, I don't see anyone changing it or complaining about it. It doesn't bother me. While I would never make anything like that for the NFL players (so don't get worried), I have to say their info is written pretty well and it's sourced and everything. That much info on one game is pretty crazy, but you know what, where are the restrictions on space?

Come on man, this is the internet. We're not limited to page restrictions for some paper encyclopedia. The space is there. I'll make sure to refrain from any further mention of team-oriented things like "going on a bye week", but other than that, the text has been about Ben, so it's on topic and referenced. I don't see the big deal, and I can't say I'm seeing other people questioning it besides yourself. I didn't even start Manning's 2010 season using it because I was waiting to see what kind of season he was having, but someone else went ahead and formatted it that way today. Looks fine to me. Your linked policy there doesn't apply to anything I've done. A sentence or two is not a long sprawling list of stats. Any of the games that get more than a few sentences get them because of their significance, such as the Steeler/Packers game last year where he broke a ton of records while leading a big GWD. Stats tell you what happened (but not how). In sports, that is very important, for teams and individuals. I don't think you're looking at enough season recaps for other QBs to really compare what the alternative would be. Based on what you're saying, you would deem those pages as being long sprawling lists of stats as well. I gave the articles some style by adding some structure to it. This way if you could go back and do it for past seasons, everything would be consistent. Right now, the old seasons are largely unsourced and the writing is too bulky at times. WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Staxringold (submissions) and ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. I was actually just suggesting an alternative when I ran into an edit conflict from your response. I think a box like the one used in the History of Japan article would be perfect, that type of box is used for the articles of alot of political events and if used probably wouldn't catch as much flak from users like myself. No, "a lo que" is a separate adverbial clause, perhaps better translated as "Whereupon..." The "que" is a dead giveaway of that. The direct object of the verb "contesta" is the answer that the lady gives, not the proclamation of the drunkard. It is her act of answering that is a response to his cry. It's a pretty confusing little bit of grammar. Mind you, although I am pretty well-versed in Spanish grammar, I myself am not a native speaker. Sorry for such a late response! The new message announcement system I 've got is a pain in the back. Back to your question, about the phrase según los chicos iban llegando les ofrecíamos café o te, notice that les marks the indirect object of the verb ofrecer. Ofrecer algo a alguien is a typical construction, where algo stands for the direct object, and alguien (i.e. the recipient of the action) constitutes the indirect object. So no leísmo there, as the direct object (café o té) is an inanimated thing (or a disjunction of inanimated things, if you want).
