Isinko

Please you did not make a single Madagascar article, why do you bother about that- Isiinko article? Is it the temptation of just talking nonesens, justy a kind of power or whatever ?? Please' keep on Japanese or other articles, or google: yes you will find thru google some lists, with somewhat communes or municipalitiçes: but all you can learn from them: it exists. No no, I won't- link to shitty pages like that(: there is hardly any internet in Madagascar (90% of municipalities do not have electrictity), but there are paper sources. Kindlyt do not come with "so gi e the paper sources, I'd prefer much more if you'd stay at the topicsof your interest and do not keep beeping around. Your are not* a wikipedia god, regards I'm so tired (talk) 13:34, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Rory Grand

You tagged Rory Grand as unreferenced, but as he is a living person the article should be BLPPRODded. I've done so. PamD 17:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

@PamD: Thanks I hoped that with a bit of time the creator would get the refs in before any other action as taken. Mccapra (talk) 18:56, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Well, PROD gives them a week ... and someone has come up with one ref already and deprodded it. PamD 19:31, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
There's something slightly iffy about the article history - been created several times, was deleted as a hoax way back (which is why it was on my watchlist). PamD 19:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
@PamD: That maybe explains something odd. I tagged it as unsourced and an old 2009 tag appeared from somewhere too. I generally avoid zapping articles with deletion tags first off because often creators just revert them and we’re back to square one but I’ll be more unsparing in future. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 20:00, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
I added the one source; there were a few others about his recent hiring, but mostly only passing mentions for his past work (being quoted about a new recruit or the team). Under the old WP:NFOOTY rules, I think he'd meet notability requirements (managing for Tier 1 team), but with all the change ups to sports notability guidelines, I'm less sure. Hey @Mccapra, why do you want to delete the article? I think this is unnecessary. No reason at all. There is but simple. Please add more reasons why to delete. Noobguy33 (talk) 05:26, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

I’ll respond on the article talk page. Mccapra (talk) 05:27, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Requesting Feedback

Hello @Mccapra, I hope you're doing well. I am new to Wikipedia and am looking for advice. If you have time, can you please review this article, Ted Katagi, and let me know what I can improve on it so that it may be published on Wikipedia? I have revised it since the first decline. Thank you very much! Alexandra Bowes-Lyon (talk) 01:46, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

@Alexandra Bowes-Lyon: hi my advice is don’t spend any more time working on this. The person isn’t notable and providing more and more detailed references won’t help. There is simply nothing you can do as an editor to make them notable. Find a different topic to write about, preferably not a biography of a living person. All the best Mccapra (talk) 02:52, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Mccapra,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Hi @Mccapra, I hope you are doing well! I am planning on creating an article on Pawan Singh Arora but then saw that it was previously created a few years ago but moved to draft namespace by you. I realize it has now been deleted from the draft namespace as well. Is it possible for you to reinstate the draft once again? I can take it from there. Invitation

For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. Feedback on resolving notability guideline for biographies tag

Hello, when you get a moment, could you review the article Eric Magrane. Additional sources from peer-reviewed journals have been added in addition to their university biography page to demonstrate their notability in their field. I think this might warrant removal of the "notability guideline for biographies tag." As the article's originator, I don't want to remove the tag without feedback. These additional sources may also allow the removal of the "may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject" tag. Unfortunately, much general information (degrees for example) is only available on these sites, and their publications also require citation.

Any advice or comments in the articles talk page would be greatly appreciated.GeogSage (talk) 21:42, 22 August 2022 (UTC) Mccapra (talk) 21:04, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

@GeogSage: Hi thanks for adding those references. My view on notability remains the same however. The refs you’ve added are apparently independent of the subject, which is good, but this seems a very small, novel field. This kind of back and-forth debate is absolutely standard stuff in academia and the fact that several people have responded to a paper doesn’t make a subject notable. Mccapra (talk) 12:42, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for taking a look again. I appreciate your opinion and perspective. I agree the field is small, however the journal the back and forth was in was very high impact factor for geography as a whole (27), so the topic is gaining steam. As it is a small topic, there isn't much on it yet, however the subject is the first author on the only textbook out on the subject (why I thought to originate the article initially) and his papers are the highest cited. While the field is small, I thought he was worth noting in the overlap of geography and poetry. I will continue to work on the topic as time allows, and hope someone else jumps in. @Packer&Tracker: hi “orphan” means that there are no inbound links to this article from other articles, which at the moment there’s aren’t. The sourcing of the article is absolutely fine. Mccapra (talk) 21:12, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
How to fix it then ? Please explain ? Cheers. ∆ P&t ♀√ (talk) 21:16, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
See if you can find any other articles that could link to this, and add a link to their text. However I’m also concerned that this article may just be a WP:CONTENTFORK from the existing Muhammad of Ghor article and I’ve left a message in the talk page about that. Copyediting tag

Hey Mccapra, thank you for reviewing my articles. Can we talk about their copyediting tag? Ruwaym (talk) 13:25, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

@Ruwaym: hi sorry for the slow response. Which articles are we talking about please? Mccapra (talk) 07:12, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
It's fine. Articles like Kazim al-Samawi and Nuri Ja'far. I have some concerns about my translations. I just want to be sure that these tags are actually added correctly, not random. Ruwaym (talk) 09:59, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
@Ruwaym: I just read Nuri Ja’afar and work has been done on that to tidy it up so I agree with the tag coming off. However Kazim Al-Samawi still has machine translations that don’t make any sense in English, such as “ Kazim Al-Samawi
flourished in the 20th-century Iraqi poetry by his humanist worldview.” I’ve tidied a couple of other things but there is more work to do on this still. Mccapra (talk) 09:18, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Mccapra, I saw that the new page Abu Aleeha was draftified. I think that a G4 might apply here (see deletion discussion), but my greater concern is that all its contents seem to come from IMDB and that there is no indication that the editor who created the article is also the author of the text on IMDB. Content suspected of copyright violations should not be saved to Draft, but just speedy deleted. â–ș LowLevel73 (talk) 21:56, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks I didn’t even get as far as looking at cooyright with this as it was so shoddy but you’re right I should have checked that before deciding what to do with it. Mccapra (talk) 22:25, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Have some of the recent additions been copied from elsewhere in Wikipedia? The unformatted hdgs and 'edit' links seem as though they might have been copied from a rendered page. If so attribution is required. Please see WP:CWW for more information. Apologies if this not the case. Eagleash (talk) 20:30, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

yes they’re copied from de.wiki and the attribution is on the talk page Mccapra (talk) 20:51, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
OK, good; there also some random numbers in parts of the text which presumably refer to references in the 'de' version. Eagleash (talk) 11:39, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
yes I work on the text first and then transfer the refs. Mccapra (talk) 12:08, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

VickKiang (talk) 11:47, 28 September 2022 (UTC) The article might have a copyvio here, is IMHO promotional (vague assertions of "strong" and "one of the...") and is currently tagged under A7. Many thanks, ping me if you disagree! VickKiang (talk) 11:49, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

@VickKiang: thanks for your note. What I intended to do this morning was simply tag the article as having an unusual citation style, not to pass it. Clearly I accidentally marked it as reviewed at the same time so thank you very much for unreviewing it. Mccapra (talk) 20:17, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Edogbo Anthony

Please, help keep Edogbo Anthony. The subject is notable personality in Nigeria, precisely Kogi State. He is the youngest appointee of a governor in Nigeria and he has acted as the president of the Students Union Government in Kogi State University. The university is one of the recognized public universities in Nigeria. Edogbo as a special Assistant to Governor Bello makes the subject notable. Onoja1 (talk) 21:19, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

The rest are the university's own site or official state govt. sites that don’t show notability. Hi, you tagged the above page for notability, third-party and primary sources, which wasn't a huge surprise to me given I'd noted it needed more refs in the original edit summary. I've now added several references which I'm reasonably confident should address your concerns (several of the unlinked sources are findable via Google Books but I wasn't sure of the best way to include those links in the citations). Perhaps you could take a look and see whether you'd be happy to remove the tag now please? YFB Âż 14:13, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ?

With reference your speedy deletion of Third Reich NSDAP cabinet 1925. This page should not be speedy deleted as pure vandalism or a blatant hoax, because... (your reason here) --Stephen2nd (talk) 18:33, 18 January 2023 (UTC) These 22 members of the 1925 cabinet meeting of NSDAP, have been listed on the German Wikipedia for several years, the 22 member numbers are each individually referenced from 22 published authors. All I have done is transferred these numbers to the English Wikipedia, and added images to them. The details of the 22 individuals, are taken directly from their existing articles on their names. As an editor for several years, I believe that cross referencing existing allowed Wikipedia articles should not be disallowed. If you wish to change the title or any of the text you are welcome. Please keep the article until this matter has been debated. Stephen2nd (talk) 18:33, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Why have I not been allowed to contest the deletion? Stephen2nd (talk) 18:44, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your note. I'd like to assure you that I take source attribution seriously. I did not translate the article from Polish Wikipedia, as I wrote it from the bottom up based on refs, since the Polish version has barely any sources. I did not borrow anything from the Polish Wiki and the articles have different focus. Sometimes I do translate articles, but I mark that, as I did with Zenia Larsson - with information in edit summary and with a template added to the talk page. Enjoy your day, GiantBroccoli (talk) 08:59, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

EskiƟehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra

MccapraThank for your edit on this Article. Your comment was on

This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject, potentially preventing the article from being verifiable and neutral. (January 2023)
This article relies largely or entirely on a single source. (January 2023)

Yet the article is an introductory article on a Symphony Orchestra and used its official web site for introduciton and its history. It is easily verifiable and it does need neutrality issues because it is a mere introduction existent on its web page without any controversial issues to be discussed. I think the tags can be removed if you check the sites. It is an active orchestra and no debatable issues are used in the text. Have a nice day. @Mccapra Curiousbumblebee (talk) 13:08, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

@Curiousbumblebee: hi I’m afraid you can’t base a Wikipedia article on the subject’s own website. You need to add third party sources to demonstrate that the subject is notable. Mccapra (talk) 14:11, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

Kaya Kinkel tagged as an orphan

Hi @Mccapra, I translated a page and you tagged it as an Orphan. What should I do? I linked it to the original page from German Wikipedia.

Isn't it enough?

I also checked Find link tool. And I found the page in both German and English languages!

Ya’ara Keydar review

Hi @Mccapra! I've tagged you to seek second opinion in a user talk page discussion regarding Ya’ara Keydar review. I don't think is sufficient to pass for WP:NACADEMIC and WP:BIO in general as the subject's significant impact in the field is not clear beyond being a career curator/fashion historian with an established track record of exhibitions (as do plenty others). I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Ppt91 (talk) 20:27, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Article "José Maria Xavier"

This article has multiple issues. Can you read it again? I added many references, including one from Cambridge. GondolabĂșrguer (talk) 21:46, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

@GondolabĂșrguer: thanks I’ve removed the tags. Also please remember you need to provide proper attribution for material derived from other language wikis. I’ve added the translation template to the article talk page. Mccapra (talk) 21:58, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
OK. Thank you! GondolabĂșrguer (talk) 22:03, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Can you delete this file? It was only a draft.

(Off) Hi again. I am a newbie here. I do not know how to delete this older file. (Read the "discussion": there is a newer that I did, a colored version.) Thanks! https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mapa_das_isoglossas_do_estado_de_Minas_Gerais,_segundo_o_trabalho_%22Esbo%C3%A7o_de_Um_Atlas_Lingu%C3%ADstico_de_Minas_Gerais%22_(UFJF,_1977).png GondolabĂșrguer (talk) 22:19, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

hi I’m afraid I don’t know what the processes are on Wikimedia Commons. However just because there’s a newer colour version doesn’t mean the older one needs to be deleted. Both may be useful, and I’d just leave it to someone else to put up for deletion if they feel it’s appropriate. Mccapra (talk) 22:43, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Andrew Geils review

Hi Mccapra, just thanking you for your speedy review of my newly created article Andrew Geils - much appreciated! (btw the guy sounds like a bit of an A$$hole, but that is neither here nor there for notability I am guessing...) - I was added relevant text in the form of an elongated quote almost simultaneously with your review, not sure if you would have seen it... Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage

Hi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Vinny Troia

Hello Mccapra, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Vinny Troia, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: G12: malformed tag, linking to a Wikipedia deletion discussion, rather than source material that may have been copied. References in Lake Hopschu

Hi Mccapra. cc:@Olga Ernst:
You added{{refimprove|date=April 2023}}to the article Lake Hopschu. Why are the two existing references in Lake Hopschu not sufficient? Thank you for helping! Regards, Hp. Hp.Baumeler (talk) 08:06, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

@Hp.Baumeler: thanks for your message. Not all lakes are notable for Wikipedia purposes (Canada has 879,000 and we don’t have articles on each of them). The fact that something can be found on a map doesn’t make it notable. The best sources are scholarly journals or books, but other good sources are travel guides. Ordinary news items are also fine - basically evidence that the subject has been written about if discussed in some depth. I hope that’s helpful. Mccapra (talk) 08:20, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
cc:@Olga Ernst: Mccapra thank you very much for the fast reply! I fully understand and I have added references on books in Lake Hopschu! I now understand better the policy of Wikipedia to publish only well known objects or facts! On the other hand it is a pitty that unknown objects like your 879'000 lakes may not be published in Wikipedia. I have the feeling it would be worth to publish also not very much known objets. If a lonely hiker visits one of these 879k-Lakes then it would be nice he could get some information even he is the ONLY one visiting this one unknown lake --Hp.Baumeler (talk) 11:24, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
@Hp.Baumeler: thanks that exactly what we needed. I’ve passed the article now so it will be released for search engine indexing. All the best Mccapra (talk) 12:21, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Lake Hopschu Stub

Mccapra, cc:@Olga Ernst: Is Lake Hopschu still a Stub? If yes what is missing? Hp.Baumeler (talk) 17:08, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

@Hp.Baumeler: yes it’s a stub as it is only very short. You don’t need to do anything though, it is fine to stay as a stub. Later on, (ten years? fifteen?) a special species of wiki-editors who enjoy expanding stubs will come across it and build it out into a more detailed article. Meanwhile you can move on to your next chosen topic. All the best Mccapra (talk) 23:05, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Mccapra, I tried to integrate on my User talk:Hp.Baumeler - page an Archive similar to what you use. I have created a file User talk:Hp.Baumeler/Archive. I do not have a lot of talks. Gondo Gold Mines

Hi Mccapra cc:@Olga Ernst: We just published Gondo Gold Mine. Please help to improve the English wording 🙏. Thank you very much! Regards, Hp. Hp.Baumeler (talk) 18:02, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

@Hp.Baumeler: hi the English is fine. What is missing is inline citations. Mccapra (talk) 19:38, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Mccapra cc:@Olga Ernst:. The info-box about missing Inline citations in Gondo Gold Mine makes the page look ugly. The article has more references than other articles of the same length. I did read about inline citations but I do not understand what really is missing having used all the already existing references. Can you help? Regards, Hp. 🙏 Hp.Baumeler (talk) 07:46, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi here’s an example. The article says “Gold from the Gondo Gold Mine is mixed with pyrite and silver and bound to veins of quartz.” What is the source of that information? Statements like this should have a citation to show the reader that this information is reliable. Mccapra (talk) 09:59, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Mccapra cc:@Olga Ernst: We have added several inline references. I hope it is fine to eliminate the template "more footnotes needed" box. Regards, Hp. --Hp.Baumeler (talk) 09:15, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Mccapra,

This tagged page has been sitting around for a few hours. Admins are more quick to deal with pages like this if you tag it with Twinkle for a CSD G6 Move and include a link to the article you want moved. Admins are reluctant to delete a page without knowing what page is supposed to be moved to take over that page title. With a G6 Move tag, they can delete the page and move the article at the same time. Liz Read! Talk! 03:22, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Notability tag

Hi, do you think Mustafa GĂŒltepe doesn’t meet WP notability standard?, you can put up for AfD if so, although I would suggest that someone who employs more than 3000 people and heads notable leading business organizations of a country is worth the space in history. Kind regards TEB001 (talk) 07:17, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi yes I do think the sourcing currently in the article does not demonstrate notability. If the sourcing is not improved I may well put it up for AfD. Employing 3,000 people most certainly does not make someone notable. Mccapra (talk) 07:19, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Alright. I would support if you advice so and have no issues with that. Learning is a process. Thanks TEB001 (talk) 07:29, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Lionel Dahmer's Draft

Hello Mccapra, I deeply appreciate that you didn't delete my draft (It happened several times with other projects I had, and it has deeply demotivated to keep on working). I'm working on my way to read Lionel's A Father's story to get new material for the article. Even though I do not have a deep experience (been editing since 2017, with this and/or accounts, but zero to none on article proofreading and creating). I'd like to go through my work in, say, a couple days (as a favor, it'd help me a lot) to re-review my work, and tell me if it's good to go by then (suggestions will be very welcome too). Merge of A Short History of the Sudan into Mandour Elmahdi

Hello. I would like your help, since you are an active member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Sudan. I have seen this article for the book A Short History of the Sudan which I think fullfills the criteria for Wikipedia:Merging, especially the type of merger that is "so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object". I think it's quite obvious to merge the content of this article fully into the author's article Mandour Elmahdi. Since you may have more experience on that topic, I don't want to make this move to merge, feel free to check it and let me know. Thank you! Chiserc (talk) 22:24, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

I did compare them, but was uncertain whether the new article was a part translation or not. It isn’t an accusation. Many editors translate (I do myself) and there is nothing wrong in doing so. Many editors also don’t realise the need for attribution. Mccapra (talk) 01:57, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
