Draft:List of historical monuments in Qatar
Hi, Mccapara We are participating on a voluntary basis - wiki loves monuments in Qatar for the first time in the principality, this will really depress the organizers And it is not good to have this list in draft we organize the last week of october a phototalk and we need to improve this list and relay it. how many references for this aryicle page should be accepted? i understand tho policies, i'm expert in WpAa but not in WpEn, but can you help me? thanks Bachounda (talk) 21:20, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Bachounda: hi - the draft article doesn’t have any sources at all. I guess there must be an official government list of monuments, or citations from tour guides….. anything really, but we can’t have an article published in main space with no sources at all. All the best Mccapra (talk) 21:25, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Mccapra: That's true, I had thought I had added I realize I had done it in wikipedia Arabic only lol
- I will find reliable sources and I will come back to you, if you please :) --Bachounda (talk) 21:43, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Mccapra: Hi again, sorry for the typo's, Would you like to check Draft:List of historical monuments in Qatar if these links are appropriate and that the article can be submitted for review? cheers --Bachounda (talk) 22:12, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Bachounda: the sourcing is now sufficient but unfortunately the page is also a copyright violation (see this). It needs to be completely rewritten as parts of it are clearly cut and pasted from another place. Once that is done I will request revision deletion to expunge the copyvio versions and it can come back into mainspace. The text descriptions are much too long for a table format anyway. That level of detail is appropriate for a full article rather than a summary table. Mccapra (talk) 06:45, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Request for Review
Hi, I'm Contrahunter. i wanted to publish the page Draft:Joe Paul (lyricist). on time you rejected my request. i am updated all news links. is there any questions to update this page ask me — Preceding unsigned comment added by Contrahunter (talk • contribs) 06:35, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Contrahunter: thanks for your message and for working on this. As I previously sent it to draft I think it would be helpful to have another editor review it, so I have added it to the queue of articles for creation. Someone will look at it fairly soon and give a view on whether it is ready to come back into mainspace. All the best Mccapra (talk) 09:05, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Please be careful — there was no unreferenced content at Gazochak. TrangaBellam (talk) 21:45, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- @TrangaBellam: there was a single source, which is not sufficient to demonstrate notability. Mccapra (talk) 21:47, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- You were not adding a notability tag.
- That being said, are you aware of WP:GEOLAND which
presumes
the notability of[p]opulated, legally recognized places
? Or WP:PLACEOUTCOMES which says,Cities and villages anywhere in the world are generally kept, regardless of size or length of existence, as long as that existence can be verified through a reliable source.
TrangaBellam (talk) 21:53, 30 October 2021 (UTC)- Yes, those refer to what happens at AfD, but thus article wasn’t at AfD. We use tags to encourage other editors to improve sourcing. Mccapra (talk) 22:09, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
You need to get your tags correct - see Template:One source.
This template should be used only for articles where there are some, but insufficient, inline citations to support the material currently in the article. Don't use this tag for articles that contain no unreferenced material, even if all the material is supported by a single citation.

London 176 meetup
Hello, I am very new to Wikipedia editing and saw on Wikimedia there is an event in London for which you have put your name down. Is it a formal event, and will it be easy to know who and where to go? Apologies if I have asked this in the wrong place.DannyHatcher (talk) 14:34, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- @DannyHatcher: hi thanks for your message. It would be great if you can join us. It’s not at all formal. The meeting is in a Wetherspoons pub which is very large. Some of us have lunch there. Our usual place is inside, directly in front of the main door. People come and go all afternoon depending on what else they’re doing so it’s like a long drop in session. We’re fairly easy to spot as we all look fairly nerdy (surprise) and some of us bring our computers. We talk about what we’re working on, discuss how to do things, and have the occasional moan. There are usually 6-12 people at any one time. Do you live in London and do you know how to get there? Mccapra (talk) 19:32, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- That sounds like I will fit in. I live in Eastbourne so London isn't too far away, and I added the event to my Gcal so it gave me a location. Assuming the location is correct I should be able to make my way there, and as I would be travelling up for the day I might as well make the most of it and stay as long as there is a conversation.DannyHatcher (talk) 19:39, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- @DannyHatcher: great {I’m from Seaford btw}. The Penderel Oak is about halfway between Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations. Mccapra (talk) 19:49, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Mccapra: ah that is close. I will probably get the 10am train up and navigate my way there.DannyHatcher (talk) 20:08, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Your suggestion
Hi. Recently, I've taken an article Dumero to AfD. But creator of the article closed the AfD themselves as keep. How should I deal with that, since it's the first time I encountered. Shall I take AfD second time or reopen it? Thank you. Htanaungg (talk) 14:06, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Htanaungg: hi that’s definitely an improper close, so I think your choices are either 1. tell an admin like Rosguill or Barkeep, or 2. Report it at deletion review. Good luck Mccapra (talk) 14:27, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- Another reviewer from the same nation with the creator has reverted their edit and reopened the discussion again, so I'll turn a blind eye this time, just giving a warning at their talk page. And, thank you for very useful advice. I now know how to deal with such stuff. 😊 Htanaungg (talk) 14:45, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello
Hi, I noticed you nominated the article Holics (comedian) for deletion. I'm not against that, as you know why but I think you didn't sufficiently explain why it should be deleted and would be glad if you explain it to me. Also, per my understanding and from my point of view, I think the article should be kept since the sources provided are reliable sources, and the page could be improved. I would be glad if you remove the tag so that the page can be improved Thank you -- Robertjamal12 (talk) 09:17, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Robertjamal12: hi thanks for your message. Once a deletion discussion has started it runs for a week in most cases and the community evaluates the case for deletion. Articles require in depth coverage in multiple reliable sources and this article doesn’t have that. If you have other sources, you can add them while the discussion is going on. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 11:03, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Mccapra:, I clearly understand, The Article is a stub and more than one reliable source was cited in the article so I don't get the multiple reliable sources that the article you nominated for deletion lack, because more than two sources were cited and they are all reliable. Anyways, it's best we all reach a consensus in the discussion. Thank you -- Robertjamal12 (talk) 14:16, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Bar Council of Jharkhand and Bar Council articles
Hi Mccapra. Thanks for reviewing this article and series of articles on Bar Council. India is a country with union of states and union territories. These states and union territories has to abide by the Constitution of India. Though the provisions are similar for each state, it varies on many principles as per Bar Council policies in each state. Also the Bar Council details for each of these states are different. Request you to guide me to get the series of articles on Bar Council for various states in main space as the information provided in each of these articles are of interest to general public. Thank you again. Gardenkur (talk) 02:45, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh
Hi Mccapra. As suggested by you I added some more relevant references in this article and submitted for review to be moved to main space. Could you please review and approve. Thanks in advance. Gardenkur
- @Gardenkur: I see you’ve added more sources about the relevant bar council to each article, which is good. However you haven’t addressed the fundamental problem which is that each article is full of references that have nothing to do with the subject at all. To support your article on Madhya Pradesh you have sources talking about Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi etc. This isn’t acceptable because what you’re effectively saying is “because X happened in Delhi we can infer that it is also true of Madhya Pradesh’ and Wikipedia isn’t written that way. If you’re writing about Madhya Pradesh you may only use sources that talk about Madhya Pradesh, and you need to remove any material supported by references to bar councils in other states. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 03:57, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh
Hi Mccapra. Got your feedback. The objective of Bar Council across all states in India is same. However there are minor variations made by council. As relevant references for these objectives are needed so I kept references from other states of India in case I didn't find it from same state. I also observed the same in other articles in Wikipedia where principle is universal. Kindly guide me if Iam wrong. Thanks in advance. Gardenkur (talk) 04:29, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Gardenkur: yes I’m afraid you are wrong. There hasn’t really anything else I can tell you. You can wait for your drafts to go through review where you may get a different view, but it’s clear to me that the articles as you’ve written them don’t belong in encyclopedia mainspace. Mccapra (talk) 04:33, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mccapra. Thanks for your time and efforts. Before it gets reviewed I will clear those which are for other places. But hope it can stay in draft awaiting submission stage. Thanks again. Gardenkur (talk) 04:37, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Making a project
Hi @Mccapra: hope you are well. I believe we had a discussion about the sports wikiproject and I was wondering if you could share your thoughts about me making a wikiproject for sport science? All I can find is a category for sport science articles. The sports project is very stats in history focused. Thanks DannyHatcher (talk) 14:53, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @DannyHatcher: I recall this being discussed at London nine days ago. Proposals for new WikiProjects should go through WP:COUNCIL. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 15:11, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Redrose64:, yes it was briefly brought up. Thank you for sharing that link, I will do some more exploration and go through the appropriate channels. DannyHatcher (talk) 15:18, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- @DannyHatcher: hi I hope all is well. Trying to get a new WikiProject off the ground is a major undertaking. You’d need a solid body of volunteers willing to consistently put time into it, and probably some technical knowledge of how to create templates etc. that I certainly don’t have though many others do. My suggestion would be that rather than trying to start a whole WikiProject, you join WikiProject Health and fitness and start familiarizing yourself with the tasks a WikiProject involves - tagging articles, rating them, etc. once you’re up to speed with all of that and have got to know the other editors there a bit, you could try setting up a work group within the project, and if that attracts enough editors and finds or makes enough work for itself, then that group of editors may want to form an entire separate WikiProject. Everything in Wikipedia happens slowly and organically. Mccapra (talk) 04:50, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Battle of Fornovo
Hello, I would like to point out that the page battle of Fornovo has been recently hijacked by a user, “Kansas Bear”, who rewrote it with a very clear bias. While most sources (including several he himself cited in the discussion held in the talk page) describe the outcome of the battle as either inconclusive, disputed, or at best a hard-fought French tactical victory which allowed Charles to save his army from encirclement and destruction, this user has presented it as a “French triumph”, with Italian troops being scattered and destroyed in a few minutes (whereas all sources state that the fighting lasted all day), omitting the fact that the entire loot and baggage train of the French army were captured by the Italian league and that Charles quietly withdrew at night during a truce that had been called to bury the dead, hardly the behaviour of someone who had “triumphed”. Additionally, this user has cherry-picked a single source claiming a ridiculously low casualty figure for the French (only 100 killed vs 3,500 on the Italian side) when all sources agree that, while French casualties were lower than those suffered by the Italians, were no less than one thousand in the most optimistic estimate (likewise, the high end estimates have been picked for the Italian stength, which ranged betwen 14,000 and 20,000 but is here presented as 20,000). This user has either ignored or removed all sources that don’t fit his narrative (that is, most), reverted all edits adding more sources and details, and refused, in the past, any discussion about the edit he has done. Can anything be done about it? Could you help in any way? Before you tell me to try to discuss with him or to report him for edit war (which describes his activity extremely well), I will tell you that I won’t, for a very simple reason: the former would be pointless – others have already tried discussing with him on the talk page, to no avail – and the latter as well, as I know well this kind of user, who has been disgracefully made into an admin for unexplainable reasons. He will keep reverting, secure the support of some other admin friend, game the rules to his own advantage, and avoid any discussion or change from his edits, instead having me banned. I know very well this will happen, and in that case, that will be the end of my activity here, for I am tired of seeing an individual being allowed to blatantly violate Wikipedia’s rules and make a travesty of history at his whim. --Jannizzero1 (talk) 22:55, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Jannizzero1: hi thanks for your note. This kind of problem is common on Wikipedia, and as you know, content disputes have to be decided by consensus. That’s an imperfect mechanism because consensus is determined largely by who shows up and shouts loudest. Consensus also changes over time. That’s why we say Wikipedia is based on reliable sources but isn’t itself a reliable source. I understand you don’t want to get into a stupid dispute - that’s good. I know you produce a lot of good articles so don’t take it personally or get frustrated, and I hope you recover your motivation to keep doing good work. Mccapra (talk) 21:12, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

I knew I wasn't going to catch up with you as I was (mostly) looking at sports biographies and they tend to come and go as competitions are in progress - I had intended to slow right down after that drive but, alas, there were a glut of those articles since the end of November (I guess there's always something that keeps drawing us back and clicking on page curation!) - I'm not sure how, but whilst the move carried out by 747pilot (talk · contribs) at 16:18, 26 December 2021 was valid, leaving behind an appropriate redirect, subsequent edits by Philip Sugarman (talk · contribs) have had the effect of attaching the content to the wrong page history. I do know it might be notable because unlike heads of government (since they had no differences), there are many differences between heads of state in monarchies and heads of state in republics and the topic of heads of state in republics has been discussed all over the media such as the internet and books. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 00:23, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- My advice would be not to create it. There are relatively few monarchies so listing their heads of state makes sense. They don’t change often and the list is easy to keep up to date. Listing heads of state of republics will produce a giant list of 100+ heads of state, constantly changing and hard to maintain. And in any case, what’s really the point of it? Who wants to find this specific sub-categorisation of heads of state? What encyclopedic purpose does such a list serve? Recent AfD debates have deleted a lot of cross-categorisation lists of political leaders, and the general view is that they don’t belong on Wikipedia. If you’re interested in building lists you might find that there isn’t yet a list for prime ministers of every country. If the list is small it should just be included in the main article about that country’s prime ministership, but if the list is too long for that, a separate list article is fine. Highway Performance Monitoring System
Given that the text I wrote was quoted from the Federal High Way Administration HPMS page, I'm not sure a more reliable source exists. Congress passes a law, and tell FHWA to write associated regs, FHWA writes them, they get posted in the Federal Record, and are considered part of Federal Administrative law. FHWA then posts a summary to their webpage, which is what I cited. Theblindsage (talk) 19:18, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

- @Xx236: Thanks for your message. As a new page reviewer I look at new articles as they appear in the new pages queue. I’m aware that there is plenty of other unsourced or poorly-sourced rubbish on Wikipedia but my task is to prevent more of it, not to deal with all the existing weak articles first. Adding reliable independent sources to a newly created article isn’t “trash”, it’s a fundamental of a reliable encyclopedia. But since you’re a new page reviewer yourself, you’re no doubt aware of all of this already. Mccapra (talk) 00:36, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Bar Council Articles
Hello Mccapra. Hope you are doing well. It has been some weeks since I amended below Bar Council articles as suggested by you. Since they are topics with wide interests and to help clean the queue from the draft space, I take this opportunity to request you to kindly approve them for main space.
1. Bar Council of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry.
4. Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh.
5. Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh.
7. Bar Council of West Bengal.
8. Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
Kindly let me know in case of any suggestions to make them better. Thanks in advance. Gardenkur (talk) 05:55, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Gardenkur: hi thanks for working on these. I’ve moved the Tamil Nadu article back to mainspace but before I do any more there are a couple of problems still to resolve to do with copyright. First, the articles you created are all variations in a single model text, meaning that they’re largely copied from one to another. You can do that but you have to make clear where that text comes from. To do this you need to go to the talk page of each of your articles and add a text like “the text of this article reuses material from….. and then link to the very first article you published in the bar council series. That way there is a proper attribution of the text.
- The second problem is that the Delhi article carries a copyright violation tag on it. At the moment I can’t access the link it contains and I can’t get the Wikipedia copyright detector tool to load properly either. Until I can check this out I’m not going to move any more drafts. Obviously if one of them is a copyright violation they all are because of the way you created them, so I need to be sure they aren't before proceeding. All the best Mccapra (talk) 06:30, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Hello Mccapra. Thanks a lot for your time and efforts in suggesting the above method. Will do as you have guided and revert back to you. However, need to check on first article on the series of Bar Council Articles. However will add link from the best ones which got assessed. Hope that works. Have a nice day. Gardenkur (talk) 07:13, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi Mccapra. As guided by you, I have added text to Bar Council of Bihar. If you feel this is the correct, will proceed and add to the rest. Also regarding Bar Council of Delhi, the mistake happened inadvertently in one particular place which I later checked and corrected it. However you can review and approve. Thanking for the guidance till now. Have a nice day. Gardenkur (talk) 11:08, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Draftifying a split
I wonder if you had noticed the previous edit summary before you moved that article to draftspace. The content has been in the Candlepin bowling article for years. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:18, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- @WhatamIdoing: Hi thanks for your note. I didn’t spot that I’m afraid. Has that content been unsourced in the previous article for over a decade? Mccapra (talk) 07:40, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- In the version just before the split, it appears that there was one inline citation in the section. Some sources in that article (e.g., "A year-by-year history of candlepin bowling") also happen to contain information that verifies some of the content, even though they aren't cited in that section. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:52, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks to be honest I’m kind of mystified by the whole thing - the split, the fact that the split article originally had sources but also copyvio issues, and ended up unsourced. - That there isn’t a specific rule, yes we are. Nevertheless WP:V makes clear that sources are required. In addition WP:NPPDRAFT says that an article may be sent to draft the topic has some potential merit, and does not meet the required standard, and there is no evidence of active improvement. Mccapra (talk) 18:41, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- WP:V does not make it clear that sources are required. WP:V makes it clear that it must be possible to add sources. Content must be verifiABLE, not verifiED. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:43, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- More precisely, WP:V does not require sources for anything except WP:MINREF material (and one of the four categories is actually from BLP rather than WP:V itself). If you are looking at an article that says something like "Laurence Olivier was an actor", then there is no WP:V violation even if there is nothing else on the page at all. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Mccapra,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello Mccapra,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12587 articles, as of 02:00, 16 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}

- @Fram: hi yes I did because the ru.wiki article indicated that he had been Minister of Energy in the Republic of Tyva, which would make him notable, and also had adequate references. I should probably have added the 'sources exist' tag as well. Mccapra (talk) 14:26, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Well, no, unsourced BLPs are never acceptable, full stop. That's why we have a special Prod system for them. Fram (talk) 14:56, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Hiroshi Nakamura
Sorry for the rollback on Hiroshi Nakamura (architect), looks like the duplication you were addressing was caused when someone overwrite the disambig page with the architect's info. I've restored both the disambig and the architect article to their state before that happened. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 18:37, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Tcr25: great thanks for letting me know. I couldn’t quite figure out what had happened there. Mccapra (talk) 20:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I spent way too long scratching my head trying to figure out what was up with it. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 20:14, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
