Fishy photos

Hi Matty, he is one of the guys who run "The Fishy" Grimsby Town website. I am not to sure which one he is or what he posts under on the forum, but I know he has the pics he has put up are his because they are from his site. Hope this helps, would be a shame to see loads of pics removed when he is in fact the owner. He dosen't seem to come on here much does he. Footballgy (talk) 15:39, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

2012–13 Burnley F.C. season

I put a statistics box like the one on 2012–13 York City F.C. season and just wondered why the appearances weren't lining up in order when substitutes were included? 21:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Simon nelson (talkcontribs)

Weird attitude to images

Delete File:Withernsea sea.jpg and File:S1010026.jpg - what on earth are you thinking of? You clearly have never visited Geograph which has three million images most of which you would apparently rate as "unused with no value". I have moved them to File:Withernsea sea 28.jpg and File:York railway station 26.jpg. For the Withernsea image to be any use, we need an accurate location - please add GridRef or lat/long. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:38, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

  • While Geograph is a site that exists for the purpose of photographig "every grid square", WP is an online encyclopedia and I thus don't see what value low-quality images that have been unused for years hold here. The only articles where they could come in use (Withernsea, York and Yorkshire Wheel) have no space for new images to be added, and even if they did I'd like to think better quality alternatives would be freely available. And as the individual who took the pics, do I have no greater say in what's done with them? Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:32, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Things are different on the Commons. There it is agreed that all Geograph images are acceptable. The Wikipedia articles may have no space for images but both of them link to Commons categories which have no size limit. Certainly you have a slightly greater say in what happens to the images but, since you released one into the PD and gave the other a CC licence, you no longer have the final say. I repeat: where was the Withernsea photo taken (or do I have to go there myself)? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 17:24, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. Speedy tagging

Just to let you know that I deleted Josh Bruell but as A7 - I don't think your G3 vandalism was the right tag. That implies actual intent to damage the encyclopedia, or at best putting in something that no reasonable person could have supposed useful. This was a trivial autobio, but unfortunately we don't explain to newbies at account creation time that this is not Myspace, so they wander in and write about themselves and their fluffy rabbits and their garage bands, and we just have to sigh and explain. It's important to get the tag right, so that they get the right explanation. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:46, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Now I look at his talk page and previous edits, I see what you mean and I take it back! In fact, looking at his contributions, I don't see anything constructive at all, and I have indef-blocked him as a vandalism-only account, even though he hasn't edited since your final warning. A clear case of WP:NOTHERE. JohnCD (talk) 20:54, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect fixes

Hello, you were wondering why there were a bunch of incorrect fixes in this article. Well, it simply is the Dabsolver tool that applies some common fixes automatically when you disambiguate something in the page; these fixes may sometimes be incorrect. In this case, the tool just simplified some wikilinks, using the redirect instead of the page anchor, and the links led to the same part of the article they did before the change. Zidanie5 (talk) 01:00, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I've declined your speedy as I think you may have picked the wrong one. Nonsense is limited to things like 'ytrxytruytuy uibyuuyuyyu' (so long as you're sure it's not in Ruritanian) or 'parcel aardvark oscillation remotely cocktail infiltrating' (which might get one thrown out of a Surrealist poetry club...). If it's coherent, it's not WP nonsense. Might be rubbish, but not nonsense. Donner may be non-notable - he may not even exist (we do get 'em). If you know more about football than I do (most people do...), try another criterion. Good luck. Peridon (talk) 10:00, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Darren McCauley

Hey Matty, I was wondering if you can help me out with getting a better understanding of the notability guidelines as applied to Irish amateur footballers. I've had a quick read of the guidelines and there seems to be a fair amount of wriggle room. In the meantime I've updated the article to include proper sources in the hope that will help keep the article. My gut instinct tells me the player is notable enough to be here. Cheers SeanMack (talk) 03:25, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

yes it was i as anon editing, nothing to hide, just feel lazy to log in sometimes, don't ask me why, i know it's idiotic on my part (why create an account then some might ask)...

About the business at hand, my approach was the following: we should have both (example) PEOPLE FROM VALENCIA and SPORTSPEOPLE FROM VALENCIA, they are sportspersons but they are also human beings. I guess i should desist because from what i see in your message my reasoning is wrong (as 99,999999% seem to be here).

Hi there MATTY, AL "here",

another misunderstanding i see man...first of all let me i would NEVER address myself with that tone ("...leave the goddamn article alone...") to you my wiki-friend, such is the respect i have for you and your work. Don't know why do you say you removed the CD Baskonia bit from the infobox when it was this "user" who did so without explanation (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Andoni_Iraola&diff=519028890&oldid=510459270), my rant was directed towards that person.

Now, for a technicality. You say that it needs to be cited that he played for that club, i reply with the following fun fact: all (ALL!) Athletic Bilbao players (unless they're really really above-average as Iker Muniain) go through the process of playing for Baskonia first (farm team), Bilbao Athletic (reserve team) then the first team, and Iraola played for all three (just check his official club profile, while you're at it check all his teammates' profiles to see if i'm lying).

Have a great week from Portugal, keep it up - --AL (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

  • No reply even though i cleared up any possible misunderstandings (my summary about vandalism was not directed at you i repeat), and explained any doubts about stats you could have? OK fair enough, hope no bad blood will arise from this, my conscience is clear (and yes, i know i should not feed the trolls, but after six years i have now come to understand it's a lost battle).

Attentively - --AL (talk) 19:04, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Tito Vilanova - Bits and pieces

Hi there again MATT,

cutting right down to business: 1 - what is the problem of the refs being presented like this: URL/TITLE(TRANS_TITLE if needed)/PUBLISHER(or NEWSPAPER)/LANGUAGE(if needed)/DATE/ACCESSDATE? I see there is no coherence in the way it is presented in several articles.

2 - the way i see it (i could be wrong of course), the first two items presented in PERSONDATA (name and alternative names) are for names that the article could have, not names of the actual individual am i not correct? If so, the "I BAYÓ" is not necessary, the main name should be TITO VILANOVA (mostly known as such) and the alternative should be FRANCESC VILANOVA no?

Torres

I know he was sent off against Swansea last season, I'm just saying that he had never been sent off in his career before arriving at Stamford Bridge. I just thought it was important especially in the context of the game, being a big title match, and the fact that it was for diving and that Chelsea already had another man sent off. Thanks. Hello, I understand your comments about reverting your edits, but one thing I suggest is wrong is where you have totaled the Halifax Town and Oxford United career statistics with the loan spells the player had at these clubs. RE: Career statistics tables

Hi, thanks for your kind words. I did not notice your message until I had already saved the addition of Paul McKenna's Career statistics table, so please don't feel I have ignored your advice. I shall amend the tables I have created before adding any more and will reference them from Soccerbase. Could I simply provide one reference for the entire table or should I reference each season? Also, when creating the table for Eldin Jakupovic, his Soccerbase page is poor at best and missing most information. I used the player history files from the football manager games, is this okay? We know the appearances are correct because of his senior career section. I thought it best to ask. If it is okay, how would I go about referencing this? I want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks again, Pippin0490 (talkcontribs) 18:39, 28 December 2012.

  • Hello, thanks for the information. The Steven Caldwell table is indeed well made and I will use that as a template. I will also reference each season to Soccerbase. I will reference football manager and search for another source for Jakupovic, though if none is found I will understand if the table has to be removed due to lack of evidence. I will get round to these edits in due time. When done, if there are any other improvements that I can make or have to make, please do not hesitate to inform me, it is well appreciated.

Thanks again, Pippin0490 (talkcontribs) 14:32, 31 December 2012.

It's not customary to include citations to football players' stats boxes so I won't be doing that either. All stats can however be found from the stats pages (in Finnish) linked above. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.232.193.64 (talk) 08:52, 8 January 2013 (UTC) Not sure how this works. but you just sent me a message reagrding Ritchie Sutton. I can confirm that he has never lived in Burslem. As Im his sister Trudie! It really winds me up that people keep saying we lived there, when we didnt. How do I reference myself? If you want to confirm this I can give you Ricthie's mobile phone and you can ask him directly. Would that help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TrudieJohnson (talkcontribs) 23:35, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi there MTW, AL "here",

done as you requested, even sent him a quite comprehensive and (hopefully reliable per WP standards) page so he can find his references, let's see how he fares, even though i have my doubts, because: 1 - well, let's say "just because"; 2 - his English skills, which i think are rather poor...

Attentively, glad to be of service - --AL (talk) 15:08, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Revert at Eden Hazard 2012-13 season section

Hello. You have reverted my edit of Eden's goal vs Stoke, describing it as commentary. I think the goal certainly deserves a mention and I only described the goal as it was described in the citation. If you think the language is adulatory, any alternate descriptions would be welcome. Thank you. (Jatinbhatt blap (talk) 17:47, 15 January 2013 (UTC))

Malarious again?

Hi there. I noticed someone had made a change to the John Kerry article rather similar to a series of edits done by Frellington, that confirmed sockpuppet of Malarious. The account in question now is Xanutellon, and I took a look at Xanutellon's edits: there seems to be overlap with Frellington, such as a focus on similar types of edits to articles on British politicians. I thought maybe it might be Malarious again, but I'm not sure. Thought to bring it to your attention to have a look at. Redverton (talk) 04:07, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Shiny thing

The Barnstar of Diligence
For cleaning up after that Indonesian gem... Taking the trouble to go back and revert all their vandalism is an example we could all learn from. Much appreciated. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:06, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Please see Chelsea F.C.

It has this splendid icon, why you don't want put it in Manchester City F.C.?

Robyc73 (talk) 19:06, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

In fact, the inclusion of the icon and I appeared a bit strange, because these icons were made for the Italian Wikipedia. but I thought it had been used as standard, and not in an abusive manner and thus have contributed to the inclusion. Robyc73 (talk) 19:31, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Just saw a few had popped up on some pages I was keeping an eye on. I'll stop now. Jcarls1 (talk) 21:01, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
