Changes in Football Team articles

[edit]

Hi Simon, I noticed that you have been making changes to different Football team articles by mainly increasing goal counts. An example you can find it here. Where are you getting this information from? Do you have sources? Just checking. :) Thanks. Gadig 18:56, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Squad Box Template

[edit]

Hi there, I saw your question about squad box template on the help desk. I replied at the help desk, but thought I'd reply here too just in case you missed it. If you want to create a new squad box first create a template page (in this case Template:Chamois Niortais FC squad). After you've created the template you can use the templates {{football squad2 start}} {{football squad2 player}} and {{football squad2 lastplayer}} to create your template. The documentation on how the use these is at Template talk:football squad2 start. I helped create these templates so if you've got any questions feel free to ask me. --Daduzi talk 07:12, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When you're copying and pasting the data for squad templates, please remember to correct the category index. You had Southport's and Crawley Town's as Burnley. Thanks in advance. - Dudesleeper · Talk 18:14, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenian Lineups

[edit]

Simon, I noticed your updated squad lineup for FC Koper and wondered where you got the information. Would you be willing to contribute any more lineups for the Slovenian First Division clubs? If not, let me know where you are getting the lineups and I'll do it. Cheers! Jmcnally 04:11, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi mate. Do you have the squad list or any info about Vannes OC because I have started the article and included a link to Romain Jacuzzi but it needs a list. Also rememebr to categorize your players e.g Category:French footballers James Janderson 15:24, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your changes to Swansea City A.F.C.

[edit]

You recently made a number of changes to players' nationalities on the Swansea City A.F.C. page. These were not correct: several of the players concerned are full internationals for their countries, and others are clearly stated in their own pages to have been born overseas.

Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to undertake. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. -- Stevecov 09:07, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Nelson FC.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Nelson FC.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. License tagging for Image:Retreatcover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Retreatcover.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Mark Rasmussen

[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Mark Rasmussen, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Burnley F.C. results 2006-07, by PeeJay2K3, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Burnley F.C. results 2006-07 fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Fixture and results lists are property of the Football League and, as such, to use them here is a breach of copyright. Furthermore, the page is largely redundant and hasn't been updated since November 2006.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Burnley F.C. results 2006-07, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Burnley F.C. results 2006-07 itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 08:47, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Stade_Lavallois.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Stade_Lavallois.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 20:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:KaraokePlays.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KaraokePlays.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Footy infobox

[edit]

Hi, this is just to let you know that the agreed WikiProject Football standard is not to italicize the word 'loan' in football player infoboxes (as you did with James O'Connor (footballer)). The standard is there to give a consistent look to player articles. If you disagree with the standard layout, please feel free to discuss at WikiProject Football. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 18:58, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please can I just re-iterate the above. The word loan in footballer infoboxes does not go in italics. There would seem little point in the project having a standard if some follow it and some don't. As I said, if you think the standard can be improved, please discuss at WikiProject Football. Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 13:53, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary

[edit]

Hi there. It would be really useful if you could provide a meaningful edit summary with each edit. Here for instance, you took out the Nigeria Under-20 team from Sam Sodje's infobox, with no indication as to why. Was it a factual inaccuracy, was it done for style or policy reasons, or something else? A very brief reason for each edit would be great, as it really does make things easier for other editors to see what you've done and why. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 01:20, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. I know this is an old message but you appear to have forgotten about it. Please complete the edit summary box when you make an edit so that other editors can see what you are changing and can skip through their watchlists quicker.
If you want a prompt when you forget then go to My preferences -> Editing and set the flag "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". Thanks. Keith D (talk) 10:46, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Regarding your recent edit to Alan Wiley, the referee, it's not quite a simple as you try to make it. Yes, he started refereeing in 1981, but that would be in local Saturday and Sunday leagues, county league, etc. After a period of time spent being marked by local clubs and assessed by county FA assessors, he would have progressed through Class 3, 2 and 1, as it was then. Only after attaining Class 1 and officiating for another span of time in which his suitability for higher league status is looked at would he be promoted to a Level 10 league such as the West Midlands Regional League. Speaking from experience, it typically takes about five years before this happens, less when the referee is of outstanding ability, but usually more than 5 years for the majority of the rest.

If you can find a reference which proves he did start in the aforementioned league in 1981, then please go back and re-submit the edit, inserting the formatted reference at the same time. Good luck. Ref (chew)(do) 20:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Footballer appearance and goal stat updates

[edit]

Please could you remember to update the timestamp when updating the infobox for footballer articles. I've spotted a number of edits you've made today when you have done so, e.g. Shane Long and André Bikey. To do so, simply put five tildes (i.e. ~~~~~) next to the pcupdate or ntupdate parameters to replace the date that's already there, and Wikipedia will put a timestamp in for you automatically. Let me know if you don't follow what I've said! robwingfield «TC» 00:00, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(loan) should not be in italics

[edit]

As mentioned previously, please do not add italics to the word (loan) in football infoboxes. The agreed standard for football player infoboxes is the Wikipedia Football Project Player Manual of Style. Please could you follow this standard, and if you wish to suggest changes or improvements to the standard, discuss these at WP:FOOTY rather than making your own standard. Thankyou. --Jameboy (talk) 17:30, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would appear that either you do not read your talk page or you do not wish to discuss this. You have blatantly ignored my message above, as can be seen by your edit to Dean Kiely. It may be a co-incidence that you are editing West Bromwich Albion players' pages after I left the message above, but please do not make edits to prove a point. Please can we discuss before this gets out of hand? Thankyou. --Jameboy (talk) 12:20, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please try to explain your edits using the Edit summary, or if more detail/discussion is required using the article's talk page. --Jameboy (talk) 12:49, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed you are changing goals and caps without proper sourcing in several player's articles, such as the two mentioned above. I have also noticed you removed references without a reason or explanation as in this example. Would you please explain where do your figures come from? Matt Hazley and infoboxes

[edit]

Hi, when you come across an infobox with clubs, dates etc different from what Soccerbase has, please would you spare the time to look at the article and its sources before changing the infobox to agree with Soccerbase? In the case of Matt Hazley, the article makes clear that he spent time on loan at Stafford, then returned to Stoke, before joining Stafford permanently in January 2008, with squad number 37. The sources cited in the article and the Stafford club profile at the bottom confirm all these facts. Soccerbase has it wrong - they're good, but they're not always right, particularly (to their shame) when dealing with relatively minor players for relatively minor clubs. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:35, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for correcting my error on David Holdsworth's start date for Watford. The Birmingham apps total of 85 was right, though. If you look through Soccerbase's player appearance lists by season for the relevant season and add them up, they come to 85, as per Neil Brown. Why Soccerbase couldn't add them up properly themselves escapes me. Don't suppose you fancy saying why you remove the youth teams? if they weren't supposed to be there, whoever wrote the template wouldn't have included the field. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:37, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and edit summaries

[edit]

As per messages above can I please remind you not to insert italics for the word (loan) in football infoboxes as per WP:FOOTY MOS.

And secondly as per messages above, can I please remind you to leave edit summaries. It makes it far easier for other editors. Thanks. Peanut4 (talk) 20:24, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of words of advice - please don't edit against the manual of style by italicising loan and please don't remove youth clubs from articles just because they don't appear in Soccerbase. Soccerbase is not particularly reliable and certainly not complete. Your behaviour has been noted at WP:FOOTBALL which may result in your edits enduring greater scrutiny in the forthcoming days. If you continue to remove information and edit against the manual of style, your account will eventually be blocked. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 09:18, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Brett Holman and Alex Brosque

[edit]

As it said in Brett Holman's article, he played for Excelsior on loan from Feyenoord, therefore Feyenoord should appear in the infobox whether he played for their first team or not. You may or may not be aware that the Australian Olympic team as referred to in Alex Brosque's article is the same as Australia under-23, therefore Australia under-23 team should appear in the infobox. Please stop removing valid, sourced information from infoboxes. Struway2 (talk) 18:07, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Last warning

[edit]

Ok, you're now editing consistently against the consensus. The next time you remove youth clubs or edit against the WP:FOOTBALL consensus, I will block your account for a significant period. You've had plenty of warnings. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for continually removing information from infoboxes and editing against the manual of style despite a whole raft of polite warnings. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Hi Simon nelson!
We thank you for uploading Image:EmergencyCover.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Thanks for uploading Image:BlythSpartans.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

And the same for Kaspars Gorkšs‎ in which you removed (again without any explanation) the Latvian Under-21 team from the infobox. He played for Latvia U-21s, which is sourced in the article and iot is perfectly valid for that to be included in the infobox. Please do not remove it again. Thanks for uploading Image:Cm2007.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Emre Belözoğlu

[edit]

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Emre Belözoğlu. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Contact me if you need assistance adding references. The text of the article clearly states (with a sourced reference) that the transfer is on-hold. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so until the transfer is confirmed by verifiable third-party sources, he remains a Newcastle Utd player. DrFrench (talk) 19:00, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:DirtyLittleShop.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Please stop removing youth clubs from infoboxes

[edit]

Please can you stop removing youth clubs from player infoboxes, as you did with Darren Carter. This is a valid part of the infobox. If you have removed any other youth clubs from any other player infoboxes that I have missed, please put them back. Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 11:53, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please do not remove unadressed tags, such as the unreferenced tag you removed from Alex Nicholls (footballer). You should only remove such a tag when the issue has been addressed. Since there are still no references added to the article, the unreferenced tag should remain. --Jameboy (talk) 12:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Joan Hartock

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Joan Hartock, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Player fails notability at WP:ATHLETE having never played in a fully-professional league/competition

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Mickael Bushcer

[edit]

Just to let you know, I undid your revision on Mickael Buscher because you stated the player had played 17 times, scoring once since arriving at Grimsby Town. This is not the case, as the player has yet to kick a football. This can be confirmed on all GTFC related websites. It is obvious you made a mistake here, in future beware of such sites like soccerbase, that can include false data and incorrect information. Keith Fahey

[edit]

Some of your changes were incorrect, and you didn't cite a source, so I undid the whole edit apart from this season's Birmingham figures, which are backed up by Soccerbase. Please don't add information without saying where you're getting it from. Struway2 (talk) 20:57, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'll rephrase that a bit less aggressively... Fahey definitely played non-league football for Bluebell United when he first went back to Ireland, so that club belongs in the infobox (although it probably should be 2003 not 2002). I've yet to find anything definitive on when he actually left Villa: by Nov 2002, he'd been told he could leave. I was wondering where you got the figures for the Irish apps/goals from, and Mr Fahey's full name, and was concerned about their accuracy if it was the same source that left out Bluebell Utd. As you know, we're expected to supply the source of info we add to articles, to prove we haven't just made them up, so please re-add the apps/goals to Mr Fahey so long as you add the source as well. Also, if you could add your source for Dan Preston's middle name and place of birth, it would be appreciated. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 11:02, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Simon nelson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Football Info Box/Biography boxes

[edit]

Hello mate, just wanted to ask your views and opinions on the Info boxes on player biographies. I noticed a lot of editors have been converting a lot of the "Football player info box" into "Infobox football biography2" , I have never bothered to revert to the old boxes, but wondered why the decision has been made to convert. In my opinion the original info boxes are slightly easier to update quickly and becomes second nature when typing away editing them. In the most they look exactly the same , however in my opinion the old info box looks a little smarter, with the players name in large letters at the top of the box, with apposed to the new biography boxes with the players name in smaller bold writing and on top of the box. I was just wondering if you could fill me in why it looks as if we are downgrading the image of the infobox, as well as making it a little bit more fiddly to edit. You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Gareth Waite

[edit]

Hello. I was wondering what source you used for Gareth Waite's date of birth. There's nothing on Soccerbase or Darlo's site, and the only other online source I've found is this fansite which has 16 February 1986, not December? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:14, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I got it off footballsquads. 12:16, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I wonder which of 16/02/86 and 16/12/86 is the typo :-) Hopefully Darlo will update their squad section soon... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:19, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I thought I must have missed something... For future reference, the relevant bit in the infobox documentation for current club says: "If the player now works in a non-playing role at the club, add this after the club in brackets." cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Burnley internationals list

[edit]

Hello. What drew my attention to List of Burnley F.C. internationals was this post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#List of 'club' internationals - delete?, which you may or may not have seen. To avoid anyone else getting confused over what the list is supposed to be about, it might be worth you changing the introduction sentence to read something like

This list includes all association footballers who were capped by their country at full international level while a registered player with Burnley Football Club.

cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:37, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I refer to this edit. I have not found another source that uses the name form 'Joshua Joseph B. McQuoid'. Where did you get this from, please? Bridgeplayer (talk) 23:39, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

James Hurst article

[edit]

Note that if you want to create a new article for the footballer James Hurst, you need to start an entirely new article (e.g. James Hurst (footballer)). You cannot undo the redirect of the pre-existing James Hurst article and dump the new unrelated article in there as the history will have incorrect attribution with regard to article creation and related edits. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 17:49, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Willie Ormond

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Willie Ormond, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. There was no need to move this article. PatGallacher (talk) 14:27, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst adding his middle name you also added a date of birth that differs from the one listed in the article. I assumed your 1990 date was a mistake in copy-pasting and so I have removed it. If that is his date and the previous 1988 date is wrong then please correct the article.--EchetusXe 22:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted your edit to this article. It looks like you've copy-pasted the source from the infobox in Liam Darville's article to support your edits at Mitchell Hanson and Charlie Austin. However, you don't seem to have realised that you've also copied over Darville's birth date into these article and you haven't checked the source because unless I'm mistaken Hanson and Austin aren't even listed on that pdf. Please check your sources and what you are copying in future - I've noticed this isn't the first time you've copied inaccurate info into Austin's article, or the first time that you've used sources which don't support your edits. Hello Simon, long time no speak. Please can you add the source for your changes to Mr Butt's England youth appearances. I'm guessing that they come from his FA profile, but the link in the Ext links section is dead. One thing you might consider doing, if you're doing much adding of stats, is put the source(s) in the References section, as at Keith Fahey, or alternatively put the formatted source on the appropriate line in the infobox, as at Balázs Megyeri. That way, the reader doesn't have to guess where the info came from. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:44, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Alan Dorney has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Hello. Please don't start making unsourced changes again. And please don't mark any change of content, such as a new club or changed stats, as a minor edit... let alone an unsourced change of club and addition of unsourced stats. I don't want to see you blocked, you're too useful an editor for that, but if you keep this up it will get you blocked again. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:23, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Nathan Redmond, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Hello. Please can you do me a favour and answer this one. Did you get Mr Hawkins' 6 appearances for Whitby by going through the match reports, or do you know of a more easily accessible source somewhere? thanks in advance, Struway2 (talk) 16:58, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes just went through the individual match reports. There is an appearance page on Whitby's website but it states 7 appearances as it includes cup games. 17:00, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thought you must have done. I'll reference them by subtraction, then (appearances page - FA Cup match report = league appearances :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:07, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Simon, you removed the loans of Darren O'Dea and Daryl Murphy. Although there are no games left in the Championship the season hasn't ended yet there or anywhere else. And players return from loan at the end of the season. I think the end of the season is 1 June but I'm not entirely sure, can you please not remove loans until then. Thanks. Alex Parsons

[edit]

Hello. Do you have a good reason for assuming the Alex Charles Parsons born in Cambridge on 7 September 1992 is the same Alex Parsons who plays for Bournemouth? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry though I had referenced it. 20:05, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

You misunderstand me. There is an Alex Charles Parsons on Findmypast, but what makes you think that person is the footballer? Struway2 (talk) 20:24, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Sorry, I didn't see your addition of the Soccerway link. The point is, the FA's registrations list has Alexander Antony Parsons joining Wimborne on loan from Bournemouth. According to Findmypast, Alexander Antony Parsons' birth was registered in Worthing, Sussex, not Cambridge. Which fits with this Bournemouth Echo piece that talks about him travelling from his Worthing home... Think Soccerway are wrong, this time, and I do hope they don't regularly guess people's details from genealogy sites. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:39, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template titles

[edit]

Hi Simon, just a quick message regarding the titles of some of the templates you've been creating. "Squad" should not be capitalised, as there's no need for it to be. And the competition names ought to be written out in full, so "2011 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship" is preferred over "2011 Euro U-19". Anyway, keep up the good work. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:00, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Belgian FA website

[edit]

Well spotted, much nicer to navigate than their old one. You may not have realised that if you right-click on a player's picture on the squad page and open in new tab, you get their player page with its own (hopefully permanent) url. So you can add the player's individual profile to your newly created articles, rather than just linking to the squad page. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:09, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re this edit. The Keith Bannister who died on March 13 of this year in Rotherham is the former Sheffield Wednesday player, as confirmed in his death notice from the Sheffield Star here. Hi, good work with adding places of birth from the new Sky Sports Football Yearbook. However, would you mind updating the counties too, if needed, when they're present in any articles? 11v11, re Steven Caldwell

[edit]

Hello again, and sorry to be a pain. But I'd be selective about believing 11v11.com, if I were you. Steven Caldwell has only four under-21 caps: check in your copy of the Sky Sports annual. For example: the 11v11 page has him playing against Latvia on 5.10.2001, but the Caldwell who played in that game was his brother. Similarly for the game against Lithuania in Oct 2003: Gary Caldwell was selected, played, and was the only one of the two who played. Etc. I'll undo it. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:49, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

I'll add mine to the several requests that you supply edit summaries (see WP:ES) when editing. Not for the first time, I reverted an edit you made (to the OUFC squad template because Lynn's addition to the first-team squad wasn't supported by any obvious official source). I then discovered that the player was on the bench in the League Cup tie at Leeds, which I presume was why you added him to the squad template. Your edit was thus justified, but not obviously so; if you'd mentioned your reason in an edit summary I wouldn't have had to waste my time or yours. Thanks. Place of birth =

[edit]

Hi. I see from a previous edit for Vinny Mukendi that you have access to the Sky Sports Football Yearbook 2012-13 and added the place of birth for that player. Is there anything on his brother Henoc Mukendi in the book - the article currently has his place of birth as Congo, but without any reference. Nomination of Mehdi Tarfi for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mehdi Tarfi is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mehdi Tarfi until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Sir Sputnik (talk) 17:31, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Andy Kawaya has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article about a footballer who fails WP:GNG and who has not played in a fully pro league.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. There is a long-standing consensus (noted at WP:NSEASONS that season articles are not appropriate for clubs not playing in fully pro leagues. See for example this AfD on an Aldershot season article from their time in the Conference. You'd be best off expanding List of Dartford F.C. seasons. The article Vince O'Kane has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Marc Roberts' birthplace

[edit]

Hello. The Wakefield birthplace only seems to appear in stats sites, whereas there are umpteen sources for Barnsley in prose: try comparing the search results for "marc+roberts" and "wakefield+born" with those for "marc+roberts" and "barnsley+born". I've restored Barnsley with three sources, Barnsley FC, BBC and South Yorkshire Times, but there are many more. I wondered whether Wakefield might be in Barnsley registration district, where Mr Roberts' birth was registered, but it isn't. I know we can't use birth records for sourcing, but as they show that he can't have been born in Wakefield, I think we should be using the many secondary sources that give his birthplace as Barnsley. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:05, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Steve Jones (footballer, born 1957) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ... do you happen to remember why you changed his full name from Anthony Alan as per ENFA to Tony Charles George as per the 2015 Hugman book? Youth/senior career

[edit]

No, the infobox says 'youth' and 'senior - professionalism has nothing to do with it. there was a recent discussion at WT:FOOTBALL; being on the bench one or two times is not indicative of a senior career starting (and neither is signing a professional contract). GiantSnowman 14:01, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am now confused as to what you are arguing. You want Glennon and Benson's senior career to start in 2018 but then you say they were not first team players until this season?! As stated before, there is recent consensus that a senior career does not (usually) start until they make their first team appearance - for both players in 2019-20 season...and I say usually because e.g. a backup keeper who spends entire season on bench is clearly first team even if they don't play. PS please sign your posts. GiantSnowman 14:06, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You make no sense. I say that Glennon and Benson's senior careers began in 2019-20, when they went out on loan and made their debuts. What's the issue with that? GiantSnowman 16:49, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PS again, please sign your posts. You repeatedly not doing so just makes it look like you can't. WP:CIR. GiantSnowman 16:51, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why should it begin in 2018? Because he signed a professional contract? Irrelevant, that's not how we judge it. Lots of young professionals get nowhere near the first team, and lots of amateurs do play first-team football. We put 2019 because that is when he began his senior career (even if on loan at Grimsby) - we do not have Grimsby as the first senior team and Burnley as the senior second team, that is ridiculous and confusing. It has always been displayed this way. For the third time - please sign your posts. GiantSnowman 17:02, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Because his senior debut was in the 2019-20 season, as shown in the stats table. Under-age international stats

[edit]

Hello. Noticed you adding U17 and U19 stats at Ryan Stirk, citing worldfootball.net. Unfortunately, that site isn't explicit as to what years/age-groups it's complete for. I believe the competitive appearances are recent enough to be correct and complete, but friendlies are another matter. There are U17 friendlies that Mr Stirk definitely played in, e.g. this one, as well as ones that he might have played in, such as this one, which gives a starting XI and list of subs but no indication which ones were used. Same applies to U19s: he started a friendly v Croatia in March 2018 and came on v Poland in October, there may well be others. I'll remove them from Ryan Stirk's page, pending the appearance of more credible sourcing. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:54, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, that's fair enough didn't realise they were incomplete. 05:58, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
