Richard Brodie & Conference Notability issues
Hi Matty, I wanted to ask your advice on something. I see you have ran, maintained and made a cracking article out of Richard Brodie. But how did you manage to get the article remain? I created Anthony Church yesterday, it's looking a bit shabby and I haven't really had to much time to go back and pull stuff up from the net accept the essentials. However per expected the page has already been nominated for deletion as Church, like Brodie hasn't played in a professional league. The reason I decided to make the page was when I read he was an England C team international during the 2009-10 season, like Brodie. One annoying bee in the bonnet as to speak I have with Wikipedia's guidelines is the notability mallarkey when it comes to Conference players, in my eyes if your a professional footballer in the Conference (Church) then that should be enough to earn notability. I can understand if it was Conference North/South and beyond, however I don't want to start working against people I just feel that maybe the Conference should be classed with the Premier League /Football League where players with professional contracts are concerned. I haven't checked but I also assumed that maybe England C caps would boost there chances of notability. The annoying thing is how do you stake a claim for a case and get the article's notable? On the deletion talk page of Church, I have mentioned similarities to Brodie, and despite Brodie being contracted to a Football League team, both players have played there highest football in the Conference, and both are England C internationals. Your input and advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Footballgy (talk) 15:37, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Postiga - Reply
Hi there MATTY, VASCO "here",
understood all the points you were trying to convey, hence will abide by from now on (must you must agree with me, how many TOTTENHAMs are there that we can't just write TOTTENHAM in the box/chart to make it (more) compressed?)
Last item: the spacings after DEF'ORT, i was just trying to separate contents in some way, to make it more "cosy" when people edited. I will comply too on that if i've been "wrongdoing".
Cheers (is there any unluckier team than England as its EURO 2012 debut is nearing? I doubt it) --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:33, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- No, not all that worried with Portugal (plus this guy!) either, and C.Ronaldo is not exactly my cup of tea, as both a player and an individual. Keep it up! --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:23, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

No it wasn't, thanks for the catch. I almost hope he signs for Chelsea now just to spite them. (Oh, but he's "signed" for them already. Huh. Britmax (talk) 20:34, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Mario Balotelli
Hi there Matty the White, WP:LEAD states that The lead should be able to stand alone as a concise overview. It should define the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is interesting or notable, and summarize the most important points—including any prominent controversies.
- The Mario Balotelli (Early life) section states (According to Law 91 of 5 February 1992, Balotelli had to wait until his 18th birthday to request Italian citizenship, as the Balotellis had not adopted him, and he officially gained citizenship on 13 August 2008.) So prior to 13 August 2008, Mario Balotelli was and is still a Ghanaian citizen (has a Ghanaian passport) from the day he was born in accordance with the "Law Persons Born on or after 24/9/79—Constitution 1979, subsection Citizenship by birth in or outside Ghana and by descent of the Ghanaian nationality law" but was not an Italian citizen in accordance with the "Law 91 of 5 February 1992 of the Italian nationality law" before he was Naturalized and then finally gained an Italian passport and could play for the Italy national football team on 13 August 2008, his 18th Birthday "as a Adult". The Mario Balotelli (Early life) section also states (Mario Balotelli was born in Palermo, Sicily, to Ghanaian immigrants (which means both of Mario Barwuah "Balotelli" parents are both Ghanaian citizens and ethnically Ghanaians from the Ghanaian ethnic group Akan people, and that also his parents are not ethnically Italians and not Italian citizens) Thomas and Rose Barwuah. The family moved to Bagnolo Mella in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, shortly after he was born. As an infant, he had life-threatening complications with his intestines which led to a series of operations, although his condition had improved by 1992. Mario's health problems and the family's cramped living conditions meant the Barwuahs decided to ask for the help of social services who recommended that he be fostered (Mario Balotelli was not fostered).
- The Mario Balotelli (International career) section states (Balotelli was unable to answer call-ups to the Italian national under-15 and under-17 teams as he was still considered to be a Ghanaian immigrant (a Ghanaian citizen in accordance with the Ghanaian nationality law and not an Italian citizen in accordance with the Italian nationality law) and further (On 7 August 2007, five days before his 17th birthday, Balotelli received his first senior International call-up for Ghana national football team from their then coach Claude Le Roy for a friendly against Senegal national football team at the New Den stadium in London, England, on 21 August 2007. He declined the offer citing once again his willingness to play for Italy when he became "eligible" (as Balotelli was a Ghanaian and with a Ghanaian passport and with Ghanaian parents as he was not "adopted" by the Balotellis). He also stated his willingness to represent Italy at international level once he acquired an Italian passport (since he was technically a Ghanaian with a Ghanaian passport.)
- The Mario Balotelli (International career) section then states (Italy U-21 coach Pierluigi Casiraghi stated his intention to call up Balotelli once he obtained Italian citizenship. On 13 August 2008 (Almost just Four "4" years ago from 20 June 2012 until 13 August 2012), Balotelli was "finally" given Italian citizenship "an Italian passport".
- Matty the White, whether you want to deny that Mario Barwuah is a Ghanaian citizen and ethnically Ghanaian and that Mario Barwuah Balotelli was only "Naturalized" as an Italian citizen despite still being born Italy and given an Italian passport at the age of 18 years old (a Adult) due to the Italy immigration law which is known to discriminate against Immigrants especially African immigrants in Italy and that Mario Barwuah Balotelli is not ethnically or "Half" Italian but ethnically "Full" Ghanaian does seem suspiciously "racist" and "inferior" of people of Black people-African people ethnicity. Matty the White, I have witnessed you in the past do exactly the same "inferiority" of "Ghana national football team" football players who were born outside of Ghana to both ethnically full Ghanaian parents, such as Albert Adomah who was born in England to both full ethnically Ghanaian parents and plays for the Ghana national football team, also Jeffrey Schlupp who was born in Germany to both full ethnically Ghanaian parents and plays for the Ghana national football team, and specifically Emmanuel Frimpong who was born in Ghana's second biggest city Kumasi to both full ethnically Ghanaian parents and plays for the Ghana national football, but is currently injured, when you had removed the sentence "Ghanaian footballer" from these international and ethnically Ghanaian footballers Wikipedia article lead sections. I see racism and inferiority in these type of nationality revisions of ethnically Ghanaian "Black African" football players. Please it would be hepful for readers of Wikipedia article's if you could possibly tone down on these type of revisions on ethnically Ghanaian professional footballers (soccer players) so that when people that read the articles of these ethnically Ghanaian and Ghanaian citizens footballers could have the correct ethnicity and citizenship (nationality before/after being Naturalized as a citizen of another country) knowledge on the players as mentioned in WP:LEAD. My best regards. MarkMysoe (talk) 03:56, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi there MATTY, VASCO "here",
sorry for any possible misunderstadings i might have stirred up with my summary. I did not mean specifically YOU when i meant cat was out of order, i meant i see it all the time, and that's just due to my approach, not a WP rule no sir.
My category M.O is the following: first the personal cats, then the playing position, the divisions/clubs (in this order) the player played in his country, the same but abroad, then the national team categories followed by the competitions the player appeared in as such; finally, the expatriate stuff.
Also, is it me or have you seen this: when a category is added automatically, it is ALWAYS out of place (i mean international stuff mixed with expatriate stuff, etc)? A bit baffling...
As always, sorry for any incovenience, have great respect for you overall. Take care - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 12:16, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Why can't you let there be any criticism of Guy Mowbray
I've given the credible source and Mr Mowbray himself has defended his comments on twitter, why can't you let the criticism stand on wikipedia, I think you have a conflict of interest and know him personally but you are unwilling to admit that the comment he made about Diamanti left him open to criticism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zakisid (talk • contribs) 17:23, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Sock
Hi there Matty,
as i see you have messaged this "user" (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Man%C3%A7ester&action=history), just to let you know we have a handful in our hands, it's a sock extraordinaire as i explained to an admin in a message (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Boing!_said_Zebedee#Sock_2). What really sends me up the walls about this "user" is how he glues everything in the storyline, all the words, really pretty display. You don't know how i've battled him (and will until the cows come home) in Thomas Schaaf and Luis Enrique Martínez García, tiring as can be...
Attentively, happy weekend - --AL (talk) 15:49, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- The admin can not be bothered to block (i understand he is very busy as the template on his talkpage suggests, but how long would the block take to make? 50 seconds?), Mançester continues on his rampage. I also dropped a line on the sock investigation you launched. --AL (talk) 22:26, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I'll try GS, don't talk to people of these sorts to save my life so the talkpage message to the sock is out of question. Even if he spoke zero English he still would know something was wrong after all the blocks and similar, and he would try to reach out in whatever language he could, he has not! --AL (talk) 22:52, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry Matt! I have sir, the admin has already been briefed, he is ALWAYS the first person tipped off after i see another sock "spring", as he has already blocked four or five of them (if you see closely in my original message, i sent you a copy of my message to Boing). The last block however, took almost one week to be effective, this last report, no block and no reply :(
Sorry again for the misunderstanding. --AL (talk) 23:06, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Moved a page
Hello Matty.
I moved Template:France women's squad 2012 Summer Olympics to Template:France women's football squad 2012 Summer Olympics, as I think which sport it refers to is relevant ... ;-)
After all, France has both a men's and a women's basketball team, and both a men's and a women's handball team, in the 2012 Games.
Cheers.
HandsomeFella (talk) 16:12, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, the ambiguity of the template titles only occurred to me after I'd moved the whole lot in this category. I'll get on with moving them to the more specific titles sometime soon. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 17:46, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello again.
- I think this move was rather silly and unnecessary. It still is the men's tournament, isn't it?
- HandsomeFella (talk) 07:16, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- (ps answer here, so we won't have to zig-zag between talkpages to follow the discussion)
- I don't see that it was silly or unnecessary, rather I was trying to follow the standard convention for the titling of men's tournament templates, which is not to display gender. For example, see Template:Germany squad UEFA Euro 2012. But, with the Olympics being a tournament that concurrently hosts men and women's football, in the way as was relevant earlier withit hosting other team sports, they probably ought to be retitled again. Update
Hi there Matt,
regarding the message titled "sock" i sent you that can be found in this page/archive, i think (99,999999% sure) we have another sock of the "person" ("contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Gemide). Worked my ass off improving Mehmet Topal's article, adding more refs and removing unsourced PLAYING STYLE section, he reverted me on EVERYTHING, without one word. In his new "clean" version (also the previous one before i stepped in) Galatasaray is linked/referred to what, 10/15 times (that's not overlinking, that's another word, "supermegaoverlinking" perhaps?)? Then we have charmers like "Topal has spent the early part of the 2009–10 season out of action with an injury but still playing in Valencia as proud of Galatasaray." But of course, he knows best.
More clues: he continues with his strange userpages, now posing as Roberto di Matteo...Can we deal with him accordingly, or at least investigate? Regards - --AL (talk) 13:42, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- The chap you contacted seems absent, the investigation yields nothing, and the vandal continues, reaching 3RR anyday now in Mehmet Topal. --AL (talk) 13:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello. You may not have noticed that someone had this undeleted last night. It was originally a creation by the prolific Alex Latham, which is how it got on my watchlist. I've cleaned up the worst of the Lathamisms (e.g. persondata and soccerbase link belonging to his previous creation) and it doesn't seem to be full of copyvio like they often are. Just wanted to make you aware in case it came across as vandalism. Just wanted to make you aware of the situation regarding Billinge. The hospital called 'Billinge Hospital' was not actually in the village of Billinge itself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billinge_Hospital.
The area sits on the Greater Manchester/Merseyside boundary and often gets confused. The hospital was in an area called 'Billinge Higher End', however on the passports of everyone from Wigan the area is listed 'Billinge'. 'Billinge Higher End' is never used to describe the area, rather to make the differentiation locally the village of Billinge itself is often called 'the bottom of Billinge'.
The village of Billinge is on Merseyside and lies approx 0.5 miles from the site of the old hospital. Whilst the source lists Billinge as the place of birth its, on the balance of probability, highly likely he was born in the hospital, thus in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
Thanks,
Man2
Sad
Hi there MATTY, AL here,
according to this discussion we had (please see here, it's still in this archive, plus another some "storeys" up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mattythewhite#Update), an update: this "user" continues at it, now he's resorted to anon "contributions".
Just see Mehmet Topal, makes want to cry this lack of interaction (if he does not speak english or know the procedures here, he should go). Happiest of weeks, keep it up - --AL (talk) 14:55, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Clarke Carlisle
You've got a good player there, he was always one of my favourites during his time with us because of how influential he was getting Burnley to the Prem. He should do well for York, definitely better than League Two standard. Must be nice for you as well to sign someone who already has a decent article! BigDom (talk) 14:51, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't buy into this whole "not concentrating on football any more" either, he has loads of spare time so there's no reason he shouldn't do media work if that's what he wants. Cheers, I had thought of going for an FA in the future so it's good to see that you agree. Obviously the prose would need a bit of sorting (not really my strong point) but I have tried to make it balanced. I know you'll look after it while he's a York player as well so it's all good! Cheers, BigDom (talk) 19:32, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

I appreciate your change at Cameron Stewart (footballer), which is why I haven't changed it back, but I thought I ought to explain why I included the Community Shield. I believe it makes sense for that competition to be listed since Stewart could have made an appearance in the 2010 Community Shield; this would explain to the casual reader the reason why the "Other" column isn't blocked out for his season at Man Utd (since United don't play in the Football League Trophy). – PeeJay 07:24, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
BLPPRODs
By the way, unlike regular PRODs, BLPPRODs can be replaced so long as no source was added. No trouble in general taking a particular case to AfD if you prefer, but the very point of BLPPRODs (originally called "sticky" prods for this very reason) is that they stick until a source is added. WP:BLPPROD. FYI, and have a great weekend! --j⚛e deckertalk 19:59, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Nevermind, there was one. Clearly I need new glasses, or something. Again, have a great weekend! --j⚛e deckertalk 20:01, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
