I am attempting to fix issues in Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Staten Island Railway/archive2, and I need to properly cite the book where this timetable information comes from. By any chance, since this is in your personal collection, can you check to see what page number this is on? Thanks for uploading the file. --Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 18:23, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).
- There are a number of new or changed speedy deletion criteria, each previously part of WP:CSD#G6:
- G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
- R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
- G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.
- The Wikimedia Foundation now requires all interface administrators to enable two-factor authentication.
- Members of the Bot Approvals Group (BAG) are now subject to an activity requirement. After two years without any bot-related activity (e.g. operating a bot, posting on a bot-related talk page), BAG members will be retired from BAG following a one-week notice.
- Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
- At least 8 characters in length
- Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
- Different from their username
- User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
- Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
- {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.
- Following the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: AGK, Courcelles, GorillaWarfare, Joe Roe, Mkdw, SilkTork.
- Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
- Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2019).
Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
- Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.
- A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.
- Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
- A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.
Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Logo Revision
Hello JGHowes,
I am an employee of Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens and see that you contributed the cemetery's previous logo in 2008. - The RfC on administrator activity requirements failed to reach consensus for any proposal.
- Following discussions at the Bureaucrats' noticeboard and Wikipedia talk:Administrators, an earlier change to the restoration of adminship policy was reverted. If requested, bureaucrats will not restore administrator permissions removed due to inactivity if there have been five years without a logged administrator action; this "five year rule" does not apply to permissions removed voluntarily.
- A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.
- The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
- paid-en-wpwikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
- checkuser-en-wpwikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.
- The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
- Following the 2019 Steward Elections, the following editors have been appointed as stewards: Base, Einsbor, Jon Kolbert, Schniggendiller, and Wim b.

- In Special:Preferences under "Appearance" → "Advanced options", there is now an option to show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Please see meta:Community health initiative/User reporting system consultation 2019 to provide your input on this idea.
- The Arbitration Committee clarified that the General 1RR prohibition for Palestine-Israel articles may only be enforced on pages with the {{ARBPIA 1RR editnotice}} edit notice.
- Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
- As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.
ArbCom 2019 special circular
Administrators must secure their accounts

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

- A request for comment concluded that creating pages in the portal namespace should be restricted to autoconfirmed users.
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions
; administrators found failing to have adequately done sowill not be resysopped automatically
. All current administrators have been notified of this change. - Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
- A request for comment is currently open to amend the community sanctions procedure to exclude non XfD or CSD deletions.
- A proposal to remove pre-2009 indefinite IP blocks is currently open for discussion.

... that the first attempt to build the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra resulted in the demolition of the nearly completed structure?
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is a Gothic Revival three-spire cathedral in the city of Cork, Ireland. It belongs to the Church of Ireland and was completed in 1879. The cathedral is located on the south side of the River Lee, on ground that has been a place of worship since the 7th century, and is dedicated to Finbarr of Cork, patron saint of the city. It was once in the Diocese of Cork; it is now one of the three cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Christian use of the site dates back to a 7th-century AD monastery, which according to legend was founded by Finbarr of Cork. The entrances contain the figures of over a dozen biblical figures, capped by a tympanum showing a Resurrection scene.

... that The Vision of Dorotheus is one of the earliest examples of Christian hexametric poetry?
When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book by Eric and Leslie Ludy, an American married couple. After becoming a bestseller on the Christian book market, the book was republished in 2004 and then revised and expanded in 2009. It tells the story of the authors' first meeting, courtship, and marriage. The authors advise single people not to be physically or emotionally intimate with others, but to wait for the spouse that God has planned for them.
The book is divided into five sections and sixteen chapters. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the two authors; nine are by Eric, while Leslie wrote seven, as well as the introduction. The Ludys argue that one's love life should be both guided by and subordinate to one's relationship with God. Leslie writes that God offers new beginnings to formerly unchaste or sexually abused individuals.

- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:BlackBerry-related templates
A tag has been placed on Category:BlackBerry-related templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Wesley Weber's AfD close
Good morning,
I was involved in the AfD for Wesley Weber. It was closed as no consensus due to "BLP1E concerns expressed by others". I write to you because I think that it was clearly shown that BLP1E did not apply. One of the editors defending it changed the !vote to keep and the other one did not answer. It was shown that none of the 3 conditions of BLP1E applied, and the policy requires for all three to be met before it can be used as a valid reason. The editor that finally changed the !vote stated himself that the 1st was not met. When I showed that that was reason enough to not meet the policy there was no argument by him or by any of the other editors. The original delete !votes that did not change ignored the requests by myself and the relisting admin to answer again after the changes.
I know that no consensus and keep have the same practical effects, but I just want to make sure that I have not misinterpreted WP:BLP1E. If there are no policy based reasons for its deletion I think it would be positive for the AfD to reflect it. I had to put in a lot of work to save the article, I would like to avoid having to invest more time in the future on this, as I suspect that the blanking by various IPs that brought the article to my attention and the nomination by a new account were aimed at removing sourced information about the subject. If I'm right, I expect that they will try again in the future. Regards, --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 10:33, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- In closing a contentious AfD such as this one, where opinion is almost evenly divided, one must carefully consider the arguments presented by both sides in applying Wikipedia's policies. All three criteria of BLP1E must be met to justify deletion. The significance of his counterfeiting scheme is indicated by the persistence of coverage by reliable sources, thereby vitiating point #3 of BLP1E. But there was a lack of consensus about this and, indeed, a slight majority favored deletion of the bio on notability grounds. As you know, the archived AfD discussion has been linked on the article's talk page for future editors to consider. The best way to forestall a 2nd deletion nomination is to continue to improve the article as you have already started to do. JGHowes talk 13:01, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response, the early !votes were made before the major improvements and most of them did not respond to the requests. I think there is a clear consensus that WP:SIGCOV is met. As far as WP:BLP1E, the issue is not only that even though point 3 seems to be met, there were still editors not fully convinced. The key point is that BLP1E was used as an argument by the same person that stated that point one was not met since the subject received coverage for more than one event (reliable sources covered his trading without license and various other cannabis related events) using only point 3. If point one is not met, BLP1E can not be used as an argument (the policy clearly states that all three conditions must be met). I asked the editor directly about that point, and after consulting an admin, changed the !vote to keep. So I think that shows that consensus was reached on that point and there was no remaining policy based arguments against keeping it. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion I think a !vote by editors that chose not continue the discussion after receiving pings and a message notifying them that their issues had been addressed by my changes, should not be used as an indication of no consensus. For these reasons, if you have the time I would really appreciate it if you could review the article (including edits before the AfD) as well as the discussion to see if what I said makes sense.
- I will continue to keep the article on my watchlist. The subject continues to receive new coverage not centered on the counterfeiting, like this article from last week: Illegal pot-shop bigwig should get 16 months for securities offence, prosecutor says. - Thanks for the New Year's wishes. You, too! Because the article was not deleted, I see no reason at this point for it to be reopened and relisted at AfD. JGHowes talk 17:30, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. I agree that the final result is fine, My request was not for the AfD to be reopened, I am asking mainly for my own understanding. I believe that none of the arguments for deleting were valid after the improvements and clarifications I made, as I tried to show in the AfD, and that once the article was improved and initial concerns were addressed, there was no reply by pinged delete !votes. Just wanted to know if you agree, even if changing the close is not needed, or if I am missing something here. If I am wrong, I would like to know why (and learn something in the process) to not make the same mistakes in the future as I had to invest a lot of time to save that article, thinking it was important to our project. Paid editing
I am not being paid nor am I paying anyone to contribute this page to Wikipedia. Absolutely nobody is being paid. The photographer Lisa Gizara is a friend. She informed me that the page was being held back due to possible payments...I assure you this is false.
It appears that the subject is the only actor without a Wikipedia page link in a variety of films and television project including the upcoming Bombshell film which has garnered much attention as this actor plays a well-known role.
Can we please finally post the page. I've addressed the proper issues that caused the initial rejection. And added further proper legitimate, highly respected references to confirm its validity.TC2018 (talk) 21:03, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for contacting me. Lisa Gizara had indicated in her email to us (our Ticket:2019101910004639) that you have a close connection to the subject, Michael Buie. Although our confidentiality rules prevent me from being more specific here, it was sufficient to raise a conflict of interest concern. But that is not the reason why Draft:Michael Buie has not been approved yet — it is simply awaiting our normal review process for new articles. In general, Wikipedia bios about actors need to meet this guideline: WP:NACTOR, verified by published articles in reliable, secondary sources. For example, reviews about an actor in Variety, New York Times, etc., and profiles in People magazine, and so forth. [update]-> To help, I've now done some editing on the draft myself, such as formatting references, using our Manual of Style, etc.
- You should respond on your talk page giving an explanation as to why the statement about paid editing is incorrect, or comply with the requirements for paid editing mentioned there. JGHowes talk 22:03, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
Dilla Massacre AfD
Hello. I am writing in regard to the AfD for the Dilla Massacre article that you have recently closed due to lack of consensus. I am requesting for the AfD to be relisted for a longer period of time in order to reach consensus. The reason being is that the keep editors have not brought forth policy-based arguments that support the article. On the other hand, many of the delete editors have noted that the page does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, this is evident in lack of significant coverage in reliable sources (e.g. [3], [4], [5], [6]), as outlined by editors in the discussion). Furthermore, I have also illustrated in the AfD how the sources used in the article do not support the article’s notability. And lastly, many of the sources used are not scholarly and fail to meet WP:RS. Relisting the AfD for a longer period of time would allow additional contributions by editors and would help reach consensus one way or another. Koodbuur (talk) 20:55, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Koodbuur, thanks for writing about this AfD. In evaluating this deletion discussion, it appeared that the concern about notability was sufficiently addressed by the significant coverage of the violent incidents during the specific time period and area, even after discounting the questionable ones cited. It was also evident that the specific phrase "Dilla massacre" was the premise, in part, for some of the deletion commentators. But, objections to an article's title are insufficient grounds for deletion. As I pointed out in my closing comment, Wikipedia processes for Moving/Renaming should be considered and discussed on the article's Talk page. Of course, you have the option of appealing to DRV. JGHowes talk 22:29, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I just want to clarify that although some sources do mention a battle between SNM rebels and pro-government forces, the subject of a massacre is neither supported in reliable sources nor has received significant coverage. A simple name change will not work if the subject of a massacre itself is not covered by reliable sources. My rationale behind the AfD is that the content of the article (i.e. massacre) is not supported by reputable sources, and not simply an issue of the title of the article which could be remedied with a name change as you have proposed. Koodbuur (talk) 23:00, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

massacre is neither supported in reliable sources nor has received significant coverage

A Song for Simeon, is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot (1888–1965). It is one of five poems that Eliot contributed to the Ariel poems series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde artist Edward McKnight Kauffer. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the Nunc dimittis, a liturgical prayer for Compline from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes, Dante Alighieri and St. John of the Cross. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism on Eliot's part.

Looking at the delete votes, all (except 1) concern "no references". This was true initially, but then work was done to improve the sourcing (a lot), after which everyone went with Keep (except 1). The question is why the delete votes carried weight once the sourcing was so dramatically improved. The Delete vote that wasn't RS-based, "not suitable for an article" is an assertion without explanation/rationale, but also showing by this stage there was no more debate regarding sourcing. What did you see in the delete votes that gave you pause and thus a no consensus? -- GreenC 03:12, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- As you no doubt know, the practical effect of a "No consensus" close is the same as a "Keep". Some of the delete opinions cited other concerns besides sourcing, e.g., did it merit a separate article as a subsidiary of AVIC. Also, I considered that none of the delete voters changed their minds even after the improvements to sourcing were made. With a 5–5 tie !vote, I could not very well conclude that there was a consensus to Keep. Thanks for asking. JGHowes talk 04:37, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- NC defaults K, but we weigh on argument strength not counting. A fair close would take into account there was a major change in the article during the AfD, and the delete rationales were accurate when cast: "Lack of WP:RS", "no references at all", "little mention of Jincheng in media..my (admittedly cursory) research", "No place for unsourced articles". But then the article changed significantly. Are you saying that the vote "No place for unsourced articles" is still valid? That "no references at all" is still accurate? They had the option to come back and change their vote rationale, but didn't do so, that is their loss. The one other vote "doesn't merit a separate article" is an opinion, but weak because there is no guideline or policy cited to explain what "merit" means in this context.
- I'd like to see Keep because it has some (minor) consequence: 1. For those who voted Keep their AfD statistics are improved, and statistics are often used both for egotistical reasons and for admins judging potentially disruptive AfD voting behavior. 2. NC sends a signal to future AfD attempts because it can be encouragement to try and delete again ie. a close call try again. -- GreenC 02:54, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry you disagree with my No Consensus close. If you still wish to pursue a different outcome, you may appeal at DRV. JGHowes talk 12:53, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sigh. Reason fails. No I don't that. Just keep in mind that when articles change radically during an AfD, so does the validity of those votes cast when the article was in an earlier condition. -- GreenC 13:25, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

I don't think it's fair to include Billy Graham's article in a series called Conservatism in the United States. Franklin Graham, sure. As conservative as Billy Graham's theology was, I don't think it's appropriate to claim as a force in conservative political movement. He deliberately ministered to politicians along the spectrum of political thought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjacton (talk • contribs) 03:09, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- In looking over the article's recent history, I see that BlueShirtz added the {{Conservatism in the United States}} template on July 10, 2019, without explanation or discussion. Nor does the article itself provide any cites of reliable sources for this claim, other than a passing mention that the "conservative Hearst newspapers" supported Graham's LA crusade back in the 1940s. In fact, one could argue that he was progressive for his time, insisting that crusades in the South be integrated, for example. I urge you to open a discussion about the suitability of this on the article's talk page. JGHowes talk 04:01, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi JGHowes -- I came across a thread you started on the Zak Smith page and didn't want to resurrect it since it looks to be about three months stale, however, I share your discomfort with the sources being used and have commented on it here on the page of a recently blocked editor who is claiming to be the subject of the BLP. - Hello George, I have no objection with your replacing one non-free file with another (the movie poster) in the Infobox. But, I think File:Tom Brown's School Days (1940 film).jpg use in Tom Brown's Schooldays arguably meets NFCC#8 because it's specifically discussed in the article's relevant section, "Film, TV and theatrical adaptations". It's in the context of that adaptation's greater character emphasis on Headmaster Thomas Arnold. JGHowes talk 13:37, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Recent AfD
Hello JGHowes,
Concerning the recent AfD Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Laurel_Schwulst, there have been 5 delete votes versus 6 keep votes. If excluding IP votes and single-purpose accounts, gives 4 delete and 3 keep.
I know AfD is not a poll, but even when considering the discussion, the keep votes seem to involve more detail than the delete ones.
In such circumstance, do you mind if I ask why the AfD was closed as "delete" rather than "no consensus"?
Best, Walwal20 talk ▾ contribs 05:03, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Walwal20, thanks for contacting me about this recent AfD. As far as a !vote tally goes, while an overall 6-6 result would superficially justify a "no consensus", there were SPA and IP drop-ins, as you noted. Presumably, some off-wiki canvassing took place when the AfD was re-listed. There were really 3 keep !votes with substantive comments, such as yours, and 5 for delete (counting the nom). I felt that the comments for deletion were better grounded in our customary GNG and CREATIVE guidelines. Listing in a course syllabus, for example, is not the same as critical commentary in peer-reviewed academic journals, nor do the other cited sources appear to meet the criterion for reliable secondary sources with editorial oversight independent of the subject. Finally, the history of the article and its drafts indicates that despite best efforts, better sourcing is simply not to be found at this time. JGHowes talk 13:30, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Miami New Drama
Hi, you recently closed Miami New Drama as a Keep. The requirements as per WP:NCORP are for multiple sources (at least two) of significant coverage with in-depth information *on the company* and (this bit is important!) containing "Independent Content". "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject. None of the references in the article meet the criteria. I engaged on the AfD page and provided an analysis of the references, nobody took issue with anything specific beyond a vague "you're making stuff up" rebuttal. Nobody provided any links to references that they believed may meet the criteria either. Can you take another look at the AfD and provide me with your reasoning as to why you believe the arguments put forward to Keep the article justify your decision? Thank you! HighKing++ 15:08, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good morning, HighKing, Thanks for contacting me re this recent AfD close as Keep. Although your comments were appropriately based on whether the subject meets NCORP, it was clear by a 2-1 margin that the consensus is that it is adjudged to have enough sigcov from reliable secondary sources, such as NBC News. This consensus was maintained even after the AfD was re-listed and the Delete arguments were presented at length. JGHowes talk 16:02, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good evening :-) and thank you for the explanation. I agree that one editor pushed back on my analysis of the NBC article and even if you were to accept that reference as good (it's not, it is based on an interview and fails WP:ORGIND. also has very little information on the company, fails CORPDEPTH), NCORP guidelines say that multiple references are required. I agree though that the AfD had been opened for a considerable period and had not attracted much in the way of Delete !votes, but it isn't a !vote counting exercise (so a 2-1 margin is entirely irrelevant) and none of the Keep !voters made *any* convincing arguments wrt NCORP guidelines and were often incorrect in their reasoning wrt to our NCORP guidelines. On the evidence, I believe a "No Consensus" close it more appropriate and accurate? It makes a difference should this article ever hit AfD again. HighKing++ 18:10, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

- Robert McClenon, there are different ways to accomplish this. One method would be for me to re-delete the existing mainspace article, then you could move the draft to mainspace once you're satisfied that it meets requirements (in glancing at the draft quickly, I see that a lot of MoS and disambg links need to be fixed, ref formating, etc.). Another way would be for Jmac64755 as creator to copy/paste his new content and refs from the draft to the existing mainspace article. I would then re-open/"relist" the AfD for further discussion. - My preference, since there is still work that needs to be done on the draft, is to restore the article and update it, which avoids the need for a history merge, and preserves what little there was of the article. History merges should be avoided when possible. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:54, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Sacramento Northern Railway
I've managed to find some free images of SN operations - see here, here, and here - so I don't think we can justify a fair use image. However, it's a very nice image, and it's entirely possible that it does actually qualify as public domain. Is there a copyright notice on the magazine? If there is, what's the title and author of the article? If it doesn't appear in renewal records for 1977 and 1978, then it can safely be assumed to be PD. With Clarity: Page deleted
Hello, you recently deleted my page about the company With Clarity. I was not finished with it, but can you explain why you think it was a misuse of the page, and why it reads like advertising? Any comments for improvement would be highly appreciated.
Also, can I please retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement? I would like another chance at this.
Thank you! Tle017 (talk) 16:12, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, Tle017. An editor tagged it for speedy deletion because it appeared to be an advertisement written by someone with a close connection to the subject, which is not what user pages are for. As mentioned on your talk page, guidelines and helpful hints for development of a new article are found at WP:DEVELOP. You might want to consider using Wikipedia's Article Creation Wizard, see Your first article. Commons pitfalls to avoid are WP:COI and WP:PROMO. Hope this helps! - Thank you very much for creating this article! This was something that hit an aquantaince of mine, and I noticed there was no information about it on Wikipedia. Looks great! I may not be able to offer an article in exchange, but I think you will be very happy, as a Commons admin, that I am very close to be able to solve T160229. Cheers and have a nice day! Women's biographies
Hi there, JGHowes. I have noticed that two of your last three new articles have been biographies of women. If you intend to continue along these lines, you might be interested in becoming a member of wp:Women in Red where we are trying to chip away at the gender gap. With all your experience and your diversified interests, it would be great to have you as a member.--Ipigott (talk) 10:56, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott, I've added {{WIR 2020}} to the article Julie V. Iovine so it can be tracked by WIR as a DYK nom. By the way, the article has been expanded 40% today, since you looked at it. JGHowes talk 17:39, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- I actually checked it out later and promoted it to C. Thanks for all your efforts. I'm glad to see you added the WIR 2020 banner but to be an official member of Women in Red, you need to register on the wp:Women in Red page via "Join the project" on the top right.--Ipigott (talk) 08:55, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hail Murray
Hi, could you please elaborate on your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hail Murray as "keep"? It appeared there were strong arguments to change the page to a redirect, and many of the "keep" !votes had arguments like WP:OTHERSTUFF and WP:ILIKEIT. Eagles 24/7 (C) 18:46, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, Eagles247, indeed this was a close call because your valid points are well-grounded in policy. On the other hand, while OTHERSTUFF and ILIKEIT arguments are unpersuasive, the consensus about this AfD seemed to be that the ongoing, continued coverage about it in reliable independent sources, especially the recently-added SI and WaPo cites, barely pushed it over the GNG goal line when it was 4th-and-5, if you will. DYK for Majestic Radios
On 19 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Majestic Radios, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Majestic Radios (model pictured) were so highly regarded in 1929 that the Graf Zeppelin's navigator bought one when his airship landed in the U.S. to take back to Germany? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Majestic Radios. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Majestic Radios), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Congratulations! With 16,514 views, your Majestic Radios hook is one of the most viewed hooks for the month of December. Accordingly, it has been included at DYKSTATS December. Keep up the good work! Cbl62 (talk) 19:36, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Time to close AFD
Hi, could you please close this Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daisy the Great AFD as it has been over 7 days now. Davidgoodheart (talk) 00:25, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidgoodheart: I just took a look at this AfD and right now, I'd have to close it as "no consensus". Not only are the !votes almost evenly divided, but on both sides the reasons given are "weak". I think this AfD needs to run for another week or so. Seven days is just the minimum, many run longer than that and are even re-listed to gain a better consensus. Some of the users who often participate in WP:BAND AfD's have yet to be heard from. JGHowes talk 01:06, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Converting to english
Hi, could you show me how I can covert this article to english Anna-Maria_Galojan. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:14, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- You can get an approximate translation from the Estonian article by going to the left side panel: under "Teistes keeltes" (other languages), click on "English". If the box is empty, type in English. For a further "how-to" guide, see WP:RFT. JGHowes talk 21:51, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
