Editing of Door handle page
Gerald,
Thank you very much for what you are doing to help me with my rewrite on the Door handle page. I appreciate it
You're welcome to edit it, of course. But at the moment you're doing my rewrite for me - changing other peoples' input. If you're looking at the page to help me learn how to edit, could I make clear that the only part I've worked on properly so far is the History section. Ideally I'd ask you to look at that section to see that it is OK. Then as I post edits in future, look at them too. Will that work for you? As I stated in the teahouse this will be rather piecemeal. I can see that it will be hard to know when I've finished a section. I know I've made changes all over the place and it must be hard for you to know when I'm finished and where I've done an urgent fix to come back to. I can indicate in the edit comments when I think I've finished a section if that helps? As I say, if you'd rather rewrite it yourself, that's fine. There are a lot of other poorly written articles out there....
I don't know whether you've looked at the talk page as well? I've stated that the basis of my rewrite is that a door handle is a handle for a door. A door lock or latch is something different. Can we agree this? I ask because your change to the caption of the door knob with associated lock was taking a different view? If you believe that the term "door handle" means the complete door locking mechanism not just the handle, then can we resolve this before further editing?
Thank you Universal Kakistocrat (talk) 15:54, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Universal Kakistocrat: Apologies for the long sleep. I read the talk page, and you got some guts there. Such general-based articles have lots of tags if you've been in Wikipedia for some time, and your dedication is important. As far as I'm concerned, I never changed the image's caption in a major way, I only fixed the capitalization, and some editor removed it, saying that it is redundant, which I feel like it.
- I also agree on that a door lock is different, but having a simple overview on what a door lock is, for me, tolerable. Door handles cannot operate if it is lock; that's probably worth a mention. Are you referring to the "Escutcheon plates" here?
- I have also added it to my watchlist, so I'll be able to look at your edits. At a first glance, there's not really much to talk about door handles other than the current article, but if you could find more infos, go ahead!
- Cheers, GeraldWL 05:41, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
How to find/identify Admins
Yo, my friend! Saw your edit at the Teahouse, and realized that you must not have a "script" installed, that automatically highlights the user names of all Administrators. Even if I had not known already known Materialscientist's name, it was highlighted for me, by use of this script. Just for fun, I checked MS's edit count, 1,270,000 or so, nearly broke the Wiki! Do you want me to provide the script? Very useful...Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 07:30, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Tribe of Tiger, hey there! I don't think I have a script installed-- could you clarify that? Also yeah, I would love to know what you meant by a script-- did I have a script? Anyways, boggles me how admins are quick to respond haha! Sorry if I did not quite understand. GeraldWL 07:37, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I am rather boggled that I figured out how to do this, four or so years ago. I am old, and am steadily losing brain cells. Anyway, here's the main page, WP:USL, for user script list, which contains lots of cool stuff, I'm sure, if you know how to understand it. The Admin one is located at 1.3.2 Discussion Oriented. I think I have Use r:Almathea installed. I have some other helpful scripts installed. Have a look at User:Tribe of Tiger/common.js and User:Tribe of Tiger/common.css. As best I can remember, you may be able to just copy from my .js and .css and see if you like them. In addition to the Admin, I think one of them makes it easier to view diffs from your watchlist. I suspect you are waayyy more computer savvy than I am! Happy Hunting!Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect!
- Tribe of Tiger, oh are my coding exams in school so low-- I think the last exam I had scored 40/100. Wikipedia is really the first time I used codes extensively. I remember using HMTLs such as
<i>
to edit Wikipedia because I used them a lot on exams and GoingBatty corrected it. I'll try using one of them, see if it fits. Thanks for it! GeraldWL 08:40, 29 August 2020 (UTC)- Coding did not even exist, as a subject, when I was in school, so you still have the advantage! So, here's the thing, you don't have to know how to code, I certainly do not! Some clever person has written the scripts for others to use. All I did was copy the confusing, absolutely bewildering things, and they worked! I was fairly terrified, that I would screw something up, and demolish my WP account. Anyway, if it doesn't work for you, I can probably find the instructions. Or ask around..Nice people at the Teahouse, heh, heh. I can find more info, but must go to bed now...You are a treasure, so glad we met. Best wishes, as always! Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 09:00, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- @GeraldWL: I added
<nowiki>...</nowiki>
to your previous comment to prevent the accidental italicization. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:21, 29 August 2020 (UTC)- GoingBatty, thanks for that! Got more to learn around here. GeraldWL 16:22, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- @GeraldWL: I've been here for years, and I'm still learning stuff. Stay safe at school! GoingBatty (talk) 16:27, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

User_talk:Jimmyfact
Howdy hello! I see that you were trying to be helpful on User_talk:Jimmyfact, but I'm afraid your edits did not have the desired effect. The blocked guy is basically trolling us, and we do not feed the trolls. If someone is trolling, just don't interact. Also, saying that someone is a Democrat is not outing. Its not recommended either, but it is not outing by the letter of the law, unless he's somehow found off-wiki evidence from Cullen. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 22:58, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- CaptainEek, thanks for the notification. In my own dictionary (which is ofc not everyone's dictionary), whether or not it is false is outing. That kind of person just piss me off to another level if I was his target. Anyway, thanks for notifying me on DENY, arghh I kept forgetting it...... GeraldWL 04:35, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello GWL! Please do not take questions that you can't be reasonably certain you know the answer to. Hosts are likely to skip over questions that have already been replied to without reading them, so it could be actively harmful to add replies that are not answers. Teahouse's way of asking you to slow down is usually more subtextual than most other places on Wikipedia; for example this was one. I don't mean to discourage you from participating, only to encourage you to familiarise yourself with each topic reasonably well before you take on questions in that area. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 21:51, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Usedtobecool: SORRY ABOUT THAT ONE! I have not been replying to Teahouses for quite some time and I thought "Why not give this a shot?" Anyway, sorry, will not do that next time! Cheers, GeraldWL 01:28, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Teahouse
Why would you want to answer questions like this if you have no idea about the correct answer? It is not particularly helpful.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 14:13, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- ThatMontrealIP, I'm clearly joking while factually speaking there. But yeah, I forgot to disclose it. Will add a sarcasm template there. GeraldWL 14:15, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- That's not helpful either. There's no need to answer with a joke at the Teahouse. People are there for answers.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 14:16, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- ThatMontrealIP, take it easy, Teahouse shouldn't be strict like you described it as. I bet they won't take it seriously. I'll put disclosure templates so that serious editors will just fly by it. It's factual though: we contribute to the encyclopedia. GeraldWL 14:19, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Also, "Why would you want to answer questions like this if you have no idea about the correct answer": I do, and that is that we contribute to the encyclopedia. GeraldWL 14:28, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- The queries at Wikipedia, often from newish editors, are in earnest. Snide replies such as "Alisha rains, you don't get money." are a disservice to Wikipedia. You do not have to be a Host at Teahouse to participate, but it helps to be helpful. David notMD (talk) 14:46, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you
Thank you for helping me out. I'm slowly learning the ins and outs of Wikipedia. I find the plethora of tutorials overwhelming. Again, thank you. Oscar Waldoosty (talk) 13:05, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oscar Waldoosty, of course I'm happy to help anyone, and I'm happy for anyone to help me. I have see myself as experienced, but guess what, I'm still learning. Being a Wikipedian is something you'll gonna learn for the rest of your time. Stay safe out there. GeraldWL 13:11, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK for 2 Hours Doing Nothing
On 12 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2 Hours Doing Nothing, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in a viral video of a man doing nothing for two hours, a viewer counted him blinking 362 times? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2 Hours Doing Nothing. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 2 Hours Doing Nothing), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Help regarding an Article
Hello Gerald,
Could you help me out in understanding if this Draft of mine would Pass the AFC? I’m kind new here, and I would really appreciate some help, also I made an article and a draft on the same content, and I’m currently in a situation where I donno, if i can merge them somehow? It was really stupid of me.
Kjsarat (talk) 15:37, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there Kjsarat. Unfortunately there's no way to keep just one page on the subject other than to request deletion on one of the pages. If no administrator takes action, I'll probably tag one for deletion. GeraldWL 15:50, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Can you help me on how to raise one for deletion? Also? Can you also check the draft out ? Kjsarat (talk) 16:02, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
I would like to delete the draft, and Would really appreciate if you could tell me how to
Kjsarat (talk) 16:05, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Also Gerald? Is this Article Accepted ?

Hello Gerald, it seems both the article are now being deleted,
The Draft I created, I have already requested for deletion
And the article is now nominated for deletion
Is it possible to keep one? Like I think it keeps all the guidelines in mind while creating the article
