Copyright
[edit]The copyright question has arisen again: see Archive 1, #59. Arguments, I think, must be made in terms of WP policy - Wikipedia:Non-free content. Errantius (talk) 12:41, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- This constant, constant deletion of the Blue standard issue passport cover is getting beyond tiresome. I get the issues regarding Crown Copyright. I get this, I realise that such images cannot be uploaded to Wikipedia.
- But why are mods so selective about how they interpret this?? Because they are turning a blind eye to other Crown Copyright images on the same page. This includes the new bio-page, and any red passport images too. They must be Crown Copyright, because they too are less than 50 years old. So why are they not deleted??
- And of all the international passport articles, why is the UK standard issue passport the only one that mods are not comfortable with allowing a non-free upload so that viewers can see it?? Surely if Crown Copyright applies in the UK, surely the same is true in other countries and their national copyright laws?? Why is the Australian passport allowed to be seen, when Crown Copyright also applies in Australia??
- Above all. Why is there no consistency on the issue, just selective interpretations about what “is” and “isn’t” Crown Copyright (or really what the admins and moderators are comfortable with having on display)??
- If the UK Government exercised their rights, and made an official complaint, most of the images on this page would have to be deleted. How many complaints have Wikimedia actually received about the British passport cover?? Some, or none??
And why are the remaining images not deleted too?? Continue to have other illegal images on display and you’ll be breaking the law too.(Kreb (talk) 00:42, 4 November 2023 (UTC))
