Information icon Greetings. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to UEFA Champions League, did not appear to be constructive and has been or will be reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make some test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Live updates

[edit]

Hi.

Please do not update statistics or scores while a match is in progress. Instead, wait until the match has finished before updating. At WikiProject Football there is a consensus not to add live scores and also a consensus not to update any statistics while a match is in progress. Without live updates it is easier to avoid duplicate information and errors from being published on the article.

Please keep this in mind. Thank you. Qed237 (talk) 15:38, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gautier Lloris, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in LeBron James, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Specifically, WP:OVERLINK advises that "Cleveland Cavaliers" does not need to be linked twice in the team history section.Bagumba (talk) 22:05, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Timestamp

[edit]

Hi.

When you update statistics please remember that you should also update the timestamps as of when the stats are correct. This is done by manually updating the date above or below the statistics table. By doing this we show when the stats were last updated and it prevents other editors from accidentally updating the stats again.

Please keep this in mind. Thank you. Qed237 (talk) 09:19, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please avoid changing "Trump" to "Drumpf"

[edit]

Hi FrenchFootball. In one of your recent edits, you changed the word "Trump" to "Drumpf". I assume that this was unintentional and caused by having the Drumpfinator extension enabled. To avoid this kind of mistake in the future, please disable the extension before editing articles that mention Trump. Thank you. —Granger (talk · contribs) 07:31, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Jonathan Ikoné

[edit]

The article Jonathan Ikoné has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article about a footballer who fails WP:GNG and who has not played in a fully pro league.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Mouctar Diakhaby for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mouctar Diakhaby is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mouctar Diakhaby until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Guy (Help!) 17:53, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, FrenchFootball. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Moving articles

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Kylian Mbappe a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Kylian Mbappé. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:Amine Harit France U19 England U19.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. Non-free image use

[edit]

Hi FrenchFootball. The licensing of each image you see on Wikipedia is determined by it copyright status and not every image file you see on Wikipedia is licensed the same. Some files are licensed as public domain or licensed under a free licensed suitable for Wikipedia and these are often collectively referred to as "free images". Other files are licensed as non-free content because of their copyright status and these file are commonly referred to as "non-free images". Non-free image use is highly restricted and each use of such an an image must satisfy Wikipedia's non-free image use policy. One of these restrctions is WP:NFCC#9, which says that non-free content can only be used in the article namespace. Non-free content should not be used on usepages or their subpages as explained in WP:UP#Non-free images which is why I have removed File:Equipe de France de football Logo.png from your user page. Perhaps you did not notice the edit sum I left the first time I removed the image; therefore, I'm posting this here to provide more explanation. Please do not re-add these logos again because doing so is clearly in violation of relevant Wikipedia policy. If you have any questions about this, you can ask for help at WP:MCQ or WT:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:30, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Linking football player's country

[edit]

Hi. I've noticed you're adding links to the countries in football players' infoboxes. My understanding is that is considered "overlinking". The section "What generally should not be linked" at the Manual of Style article on "Linking" also states:

"A good question to ask yourself is whether reading the article you're about to link to would help someone understand the article you are linking from. Unless a term is particularly relevant to the context in the article, the following are not usually linked:

  • Everyday words understood by most readers in context
  • The names of major geographic features, locations (e.g. United States, London, New York City, France, Berlin...), languages, nationalities (e.g. English, British, American, French, German...) and religions (e.g. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism...)"

Hello, FrenchFootball. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Titi d'Or, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

GA nomination for Odsonne Édouard and other matters

[edit]

Hi FrenchFootball. I have passed your nomination for Odsonne Édouard. A bot has update the article and added the GA icon. Please see message directly above this one. It was nice to work with you in getting the page up to standard. Please note, though, that the page will need to be maintained regularly to keep the GA status, and as the player is only 19 there will be a lot of work to be done as his career progresses.

The page is now eligible for DYK - please see Wiki:DYK for instructions on how to get the article featured on the home page under the Did You Know? section.

I notice that you've also nominated Amine Harit and Baptiste Serin (rugby) for GA. Please note that these articles are likely to be quick-failed by a reviewer as they are far too short and do not meet GA Criteria. You might want to add additional content to these pages or withdraw the nominations by removing the {{GA nominee}} from the article talk page.

Lastly, I have noticed that Titi d'Or, a page you recently created, is proposed for deletion. I'm in favour of the page but at present it will likely be deleted by an administrator. To save it, please source as much information from alternative websites to Goal.com (perhaps the official PSG site and other French media). I would also advise that you expand the lede and add as much interesting information to show why the award is notable in spite of it being awarded to academy players (which aren't deemed notable at the time).

I hope I've been able to help and look forward to working with you again in the future. Cheers, Liam E. Bekker (talk) 08:13, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Bassem Srarfi

[edit]

Hi FrenchFootball, is there a reason you keep removing the Nice II stats from the Bassem Srarfi article and doing similar edits on other articles? R96Skinner (talk) 21:32, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi R96Skinner, yes there is. I only do so for French reserve teams because unlike the Spanish system for example, a reserve team cannot go any higher then Championnat National 2, which is a semi-pro and amateur tier of the French football ladder. Therefore I feel that while the stats should appear in the infobox, I don't feel like it belongs in the wikitable with the players more precise stats. I hope this was a satisfactory answer and please let me know what you think. FrenchFootball (talk) 14:54, 12 August 2017 (UTC) PS: please look at the Équipe réserve page on the French wikipedia for confirmation of what I was saying.[reply]

Fair enough answer. It's one of Wikipedia's many unknown things, no exact rule to say in either direction; people are always disagreeing whether they should be in the infobox itself nevermind the career stats. I get what you're saying, but I'd say if it's in the infobox it should be in the career stats too; for consistency. Unless a rule is made, it's probably best to keep the original set-up. Like as Srarfi's is as it stands now, and vice-versa if it's the other way around on a different article. Thanks for responding, FrenchFootball! R96Skinner (talk) 17:54, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Zlatan Ibrahimović

[edit]

He was released on 30 June and became a free agent for two month. Please leave the infobox as two separate deal. Matthew_hk tc 11:17, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Why did you remove material from the article? He played for Manchester United as number 9 during the 2016-17 season, a contract that expired on 30 June 2017, but has since signed a new contract with them, to play as number 10 during the 2017-18 season. That is two separate contracts, and also a different jersey number... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 11:19, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, FrenchFootball. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Hello from Portugal,

i would like to ask you why is it that almost everytime you update the infobox's stats, the fields get all mixed? Does it have anything with editing from a mobile phone or similar? Just curious.

Hey, yeah I've noticed that and I have no idea why. It only does it with Rabiot but it's very strange. I don't edit on my phone and I edit it like I edit anyone else and it literally never happens elsewhere. Maybe the way the page was setup in the first place I don't know. An article you recently created, Rouen Normandie Rugby, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Help

[edit]

About 6 or 7 articles I made on female footballers who are based in France are nominated for deletion recently citing WP:NFOOTY. However 3 of them - Léa Khelifi, Lina Boussaha and Sandy Baltimore have made appearances in UEFA Women's Champions League. Would that help in any means? Or any possible ways to help such as WP:GNG? Thanks in advance Kokoeist (talk) 02:55, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kokoeist, that's really weird. All 3 pages look properly sourced and detailed. Enough to stay on Wikipedia at least. Usually as long as someone has played a pro match and you source it shouldn't be nominated for deletion. I'll have a look into this and let you know. Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Jonathan Panzo article, but I have found one and added it for you. Please try and remember to include sources yourself with future edits. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 21:04, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jérôme Arpinon moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jérôme Arpinon, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 13:46, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Was an article you worked on nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Hi. Please be careful about overwriting other contributor's work. This change was a regression is many ways:

  • you removed transfer details,
  • replaced English-language references by a French one,
  • introduced a wrong start year for his Crystal Palace stint,
  • removed the career stats entry for his Crystal Palace stint,
  • added [[Category:Premier League players]] even though he has not played there yet.

[edit]

An article you recently created, Léo Drouet, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) WP:NFOOTY is no longer a valid SNG, so GNG must be met. It needs several refs from independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those. Please remember that routine sports coverage does not satisfy GNG, and that interviews, being primary sources, do not go to notability either. Hello, FrenchFootball

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Thebiguglyalien, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Mickaël Guillard, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

Joshua Brennan (rugby union) moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Joshua Brennan (rugby union). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. JTtheOG (talk) 20:48, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
