Article on Jens Beckert, sociologist

Dear FoCuSandLeArN,

I'm writing to you as a staff member of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, Germany. In December 2013 we posted an entry about one of our directors, Jens Beckert, which was declined by you due to missing references which mark Jens Beckert's notability. We therefore amended his entry in June. Apart from minor changes (e.g. link corrections) we wait for its publication.

I know that you have lots to do and many sites to correct, but would it be possible to check our new proposal in the next few days? That'd be great!

Thanks a lot and all the best from Cologne Silvia

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. 20:13:28, 28 September 2014 review of submission by Htirgan

Hello:

I submitted an article, "Keloid Disorder". It was rejected on grounds that the article "Keloid" does exist and I should simply improve that. Before I wrote my article, I did exactly what you had suggested, but the owner, or the original author of that article rejected my edits. The edit history is there and you can verify his actions.

The are many issues with the "keloid article" but the biggest issue is the owner of it. He simply does not posses the medical knowledge, neither does he have the command of English. Please read his first paragraph and you will know. The proper title for this topic is "Keloid Disorder"

Secondly, I am a physician, specializing in treatment of Keloid. I have treated over 800 patients with this illness, I research this condition, and I do posses the expertise to revise or write on this topic, and the person who authored "Keloid" has simply copied and pasted material in his wiki write up.

In any event, I was just trying to improve wiki.

Page Declined

I would like your recommendations to correct the causes for this page being declined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Bobby_McKeown#Biography

The challenge with providing more supporting information is that the majority of the information predates the internet, so there are not a lot of links to connect to for references.

Thank you for your time. it is appreciated.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ivo Varbanov (pianist), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://icsmrecords.com/ivo-varbanov/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Hello FoCuSandLeArN. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Hi,

Thanks for your advice, it helped me.

I will not need to have the article posted finally.

I think it is better to let the justice system follow it's due course and then create an article.

I find that a little strange.

deOrphaning script

Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.

What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list or alternatively to opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Opted-out of message delivery to your user talk page.

Perquisite artist page

Hi FoCuSandLeArN! Thank you so much for wanting to help with the article page and your specific comment. You're exactly what I need, I kinda got stuck. You told me to provide some chart information about the artist I'm writing about (Perquisite, from Amsterdam). I just noticed that two of his studio albums actually already have their own English wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindstate_(Pete_Philly_and_Perquisite_album) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Repeats

On this website you can see that 1. 'Mystery Repeats' album held the second position in the Dutch charts for 25 weeks. > http://dutchcharts.nl/showitem.asp?interpret=Pete+Philly+%26+Perquisite&titel=Mystery+Repeats&cat=a 2. Also, their first album, 'Mindstate' was in the charts for 29 weeks, holding the 52'nd position > http://dutchcharts.nl/showitem.asp?interpret=Pete+Philly+%26+Perquisite&titel=Mindstate&cat=a 3. 'Lovestruck Puzzles' with Kris Berry was also in the charts, for 4 weeks at the 32nd position. > http://dutchcharts.nl/showitem.asp?interpret=Kris+Berry+%26+Perquisite&titel=Lovestruck+Puzzles&cat=a

Is this of any use? I will embed this information in the article via referencing. Thanks for your help in advance,

Best, Mink

Thanks for creating the article. Which aspects of copy editing do you think it needs to be improved?Snoobysoo (talk) 18:15, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

A few pointers: The intro could use a reference; The Levellers needs more references; there's a bit of citation overkill happening sometimes; I don't know about the tone in general, perhaps we could ask a few more experienced reviewers, but I have a feeling it could also use slight tweaking. I think you missed that Draft:Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives was copied from a work of the US Government, and therefore in the public domain. AFC: InfoBeans

Thank you for your comment, however I could not understand what do you mean by "Could scrape general notability...". Do you mean I do Web Scraping to get more data/content for this article? or Do you mean I remove some content/data from the article. I also read the general notability guideline on Wikipedia here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability#General_notability_guideline; but could not understand what to do next. I believe it adheres to general notability guideline.

Please elaborate so I can implement suggestions made by you. Thanks, Avinash VirtualAvi (talk) 06:59, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

What I meant by stating that guideline was that it might barely pass notability, but there is no overwhelming coverage, so to speak. Nonetheless, the article needs extensive trimming, due to its neutrality problems (see language, for instance), excessive subsections, puffery and irrelevant information. After that, we can get a second opinion. Thanks! FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 14:41, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Pinus Rubinstein

Hi Pinus Rubinstein's books "Judische Vatikan in Sadagora" appear in worldcat, (http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=ti%3Ajudische+vatikan+sadagora&qt=results_page), held by many major libraries worldwide. In these books he gives unique historical information about Jewish Sadagora and Czernowitz, and about life in WWII under Russian and Nazi rule. These books were also translated to English and is available online on the most important Jewish Genealogy website Jewishgen, becuase of its importance. I think that sheding light on the writer of these books and his life is of general interest to many readers and scholars of Judaica, Holocaust and WWII, and this is why I wrote about him. All the best Eran — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eranreiss (talkcontribs) 08:52, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

It is certainly important! I'm just trying to make sure he passes notability guidelines. I'll contact a few experienced editors in the topic and see what they can do. Thank you for your patience, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 14:59, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I looked at your article. I think you will have a hard time proving Rubinstein's notability - I couldn't find a single reference to him online. But, more important, because of your article I read his books and found them delightful! My father-in-law told us how, as a child, his mother took him to the Sadagora Reb for blessing. Rubinstein's book made all that come alive. So, whatever happens to the article, thanks for pointing me there. --Ravpapa (talk) 07:01, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for sharing that! It would certainly be a shame to miss such an article on technical notability grounds...Do you know of anyone who could help? FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 13:07, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Notability is not a technical issue. If we were to write about everyone who wrote a book like this, there would be no end to it. I'm afraid that Rubinstein is not going to make it.
But I have a different suggestion. Why don't you add a paragraph to the article on Sadhora, mentioning that Rubinstein wrote a book of memoirs, and that there is an organization of Israelis from Sadhora that published it? The truth is, a lot more people will see the reference there than will see the article on Rubinstein in Wikipedia. --Ravpapa (talk) 15:57, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
I'll try to communicate that to the submitter, and I'll probably end up being bold and doing it myself. PS: I quite enjoyed your Tilt essay! Best, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 16:07, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

It is redundant to "Itinerary" section, is poorly formatted, and all the youtube references make it look spammy. I hope that helps. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 19:18, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear reviewer, thank you for advice. I deleted all Media About Somen Debnath. I know you are very busy, but could you kindly please check if this works now or tell me what else to do? With kindest regards, Angelica — Preceding unsigned comment added by AngeliMarines (talkcontribs) 19:38, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that. It looks better. It still needs a better selection of references (for example here) from independent and reliable sources. When that's done, I'll perform a quick cleanup and accept it if everything looks good. Best, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 20:18, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

International Human Rights Law Course

Thanks for taking an interest in my human rights course. The "add yourself as reviewer" option was originally intended for students to add themselves and review each other's pages. My class was however larger than expected this year, and so we have ended up not using this feature. From an assessment point of view, the students have now submitted their assignments, and I am about to mark them. So, I am happy for you to use the "add yourself as a reviewer" feature, or alternatively just comment/edit some of the articles. You will have already seen that the student contributions are quite a mixed bunch, with some excellent contributions and others less so. Some gentle suggestions for improvement would be welcome. Thanks. Humanrights4nz (talk) 21:47, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for such a prompt response! I'll be more than glad to give them some feedback and review some articles. I'll do so first thing tomorrow. Thanks again, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:50, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Comment on Angel Broking

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. I have added few reference links for the products. Kindly take a look again and let me know if they are fine. Also, I have added references for awards and milestones which I felt are notable. Kindly provide your guidance on the changes to be done to improve the article.

Regards,

--Muab2 (talk) 11:12, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

I'd advise you to write the renamed "History" section as prose, and avoid non-neutral language. I've also restructured the products section according to Wikipedia standards. Let's see if we can turn this into a decent article. Thanks, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 14:47, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and help with the article. I have made the necessary changes. Do take a look and let me know how I can improvise the article further.

Unreasonable Search and Seizure in New Zealand

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on my article. It was made for a university assignment and was my first attempt at a wikipedia article so it was really useful to get some positive feedback and see where I can improve. I'll make those suggested edits as soon as possible.

Regards, Tjm93 (talk) 21:22, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Tjm93

That's often how it starts! I've been editing for years after that. Good luck and don't be a stranger. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:24, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Notability

Dear FoCuSandLeArN,

Thank you for your review of the page I created. Unfortunately it was rejected because of not enough Notability. And you are right, but I saw a lot of pages edited and less notable than this page, do you know why they are accepted ? For example that link : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Sattinger and I know this person. Sometimes, you cannot be a little bit more cool for the new users who try hard ? Could you advise me, you, that you have a lot of experience and knowledge.

Thanks Bichonneau — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bichonneau (talkcontribs) 21:35, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but the subject of the article is simply non-notable for Wikipedia. It won't be accepted no matter what is done to the draft, given it doesn't pass our guidelines. As for the article you mentioned, I can't comment because it's in the French Wikipedia, an entirely different Wiki. Thank you, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:47, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Your comments on Draft:protohistoric Aquitania

Hello, FoCuSandLeArN

I try to respond to your comments (from May, 8) on the distinction I support, between the pages protohistoric Aquitania and Gallia Aquitania. In fact I have added a paragraph to the Draft page, since your questions may be shared by others. In summary, . the two entities have different reference periods : protohistoric Aquitania before the Roman Empire and Gallia Aquitania after the Roman Empire]]. . the geographical limits are different on the north (Garonne or Loire. Moreover, the langages are different, before the roman conquest, on the northern side and on the southern side of the Garonne.

Here is a copy of the new paragraph on Draft page:

Protohistoric Aquitania vs Gallia Aquitania - comparisons Space and time are different:

Schematically, having in common the Atlantic Ocean as a western limit,

Chronological dates are distinct :

Moreover, from a linguistic point of view and before roman conquest,

Statements from Julius Caesar and Strabon are quite clear on this point, confirmed by epigraphy. In other words, at its starting point, Gallia Aquitania was an oxymoron.

Additional comments and references You could still stick for a single page. On the other hand, your question suggest me possibility to ask the same question for Gallia Aquitania and Novempopulania for example : here again, you have part of the territory in common, but differences and distinctions in space covered, time and dates, and people or ethnic groups living in the area. And so on : why not a single huge France page ? The point is of course, how to conclude whether the identity of the different pages are sufficiently distinct.

I have a book (in french) speaking about protohistory and about Aquitaine : Jean Gasco, L'Âge du Bronze dans la moitié sud de la France.

But here we are on english Wikipedia, and so I try to use english. I am more used to write on french Wikipedia. And I also have more french references, especially for a geograhical area such as aquitania/aquitanie/aquitaine. What is the Wikipedia policy, concerning foreign langage in references ? I have put as an "external link" the french Wikipedia page on 'Aquitaine prehistorique', this is not really external, but I don't know any other way.

Hello again! Thank you for your clarification. I've contacted a few people to see what they have to say, given I'm certainly not knowledgeable about this particular topic. As for your reference question, feel free to provide as many references as you can, regardless of language or medium. À la prochaine, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 14:43, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Pinus Rubinstein

I realize he's not very well known and there's hardly any info on him online. That's exactly what my contribution attempted to correct. I think he's importane enough and there's the info in his son's book and the info inside his own books.

If this is not enough, and he does not apply to Wikipedia rules - then I give up... Thanks

I know Wikipedia's notability guidelines can be different to what real life considers notable, but that's how it works. Would you be willing to edit the main article to include this information? We could even redirect Pinus Rubinstein towards that section, so that a google search would direct the person there, which is what you intended. Your comments on Draft:Climate Hawks Vote

I welcome an NPOV check. There certainly is potential for controversy on this subject, but there seems to be none so far. As I stated in my disclaimer on the article's talk page, I did a thorough search of sources and found nothing negative. RichardMathews (talk) 05:06, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Your comments on Draft:Patrick_Bebelaar

Hi FoCuSandLeArN, thx for your comment. I tried to put as many notable English sources as possible. But given the artist's German origin, many sources are German... I had the article checked by the main auditor from the artist's German page (Wikipedia name: Engelbaet ), which gave pretty positive feedback. Sorry for my naive questions (as I am new at Wikipedia). Shall I do anything now? Or could you even invite Engelbaet  ? I appreciate your input (if you want you can put it in the talk on the page Draft:Patrick_Bebelaar ). Your feedback is even more appreciated as I am currently working on some more Jazz Musicians and Celebrities of German and Afghan origin who are internationally active. --ScienceGuard (talk) 15:37, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Source in German are just fine. I just need a German-speaking reviewer to corroborate the facts. I'll talk to Engelbaet and hopefully get some feedback! That sounds great! Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 19:46, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance

Thanks for the comment and info. Can you specify how much more coverage is needed for the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance to merit inclusion?

As it stands I've included a dozen references citing news coverage of the Alliance's efforts and happenings -- 1 about its creation, 2 about its grant funding efforts, 4 about its director, and 2 case study/profiles. If you can let me know what more is needed, I'll specifically search for those items. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattschorr (talkcontribs) 19:39, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

See WP:GNG and WP:CORP for a quick run-down. Thanks, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 19:49, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Do our references not fulfill these criteria? If I may argue our case ... we have articles from The Tennesseean, The Nashville Business Journal and The Nashville Post, as well as university publications and a case study in Academic Medicine and a profile in TICUA. A couple of those references go to the Alliance's own site, but only when referencing the MVA's mission statement and vision, as I felt it would be best to reference where those statements came from. (But if those need to be removed, I can certainly do so.) I would argue this merits a small article like the one in place. But if we need more than we have, just let me know and I'll start pooling our office for additional references. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattschorr (talkcontribs) 20:18, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
