Ben Purkiss

You recently changed the biography from current chairman of the PFA to former chairman, Mr Purkiss is still the current chairman as the review into the PFA has not yet finished. Please stop changing this

This review took place a year ago. Hard to believe it's still not finished but then again with the PFA perhaps it's not that hard to believe.--EchetusXe 16:29, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Hard to believe? That isn't verified it is? It is a belief. Gordon Taylor has been doing a lot of media recently and is still in post and has not stepped down, which was the case at the end of the review. As I said, please stop changing this.

See this article from April 2020 here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8179987/Gordon-Taylor-footballs-fattest-cat-meant-step-year-ago.html

"The review by Sport Resolutions into the PFA's governance and operations is ongoing"

What? Is English your first language? Anyway the Purkiss article doesn't say he is the former chairman, it just states the fact as they have been reported. There is no need to change it to explicitly say he is the current chairman.--EchetusXe 16:22, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Please do not change it again. It is necessary as it leads to incorrect journalism. "Benjamin John Purkiss (born 1 April 1984) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. In March 2019, it was reported that he would stand down as chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) after the completion of a "full and open review" into the PFA, along with its chief executive, Gordon Taylor" - Which of this is incorrect? You made your point that former is not correct as this review is seemingly endless, but it does not say former now.--EchetusXe 12:51, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, and it is important that it says current as it has been inaccurate for so long. Please stop changing this — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:BB5C:6D00:926:EC71:B906:5B55 (talk) 23:03, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Siddall

ENFA seem to think so, so who are we to argue? We has several hundred players under Barry Fry, many of whom never got to know each others' names (if Steve Claridge's book is anything to go by), so it's perfectly possible they got him in as GK cover and nobody noticed. He certainly never played first team. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:37, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Seek and ye shall find... March 1995: "Even that compulsive spender, Birmingham's Barry Fry, restricted himself to three temporary recruits. One, the 40-year-old goalkeeper Barry Siddall, is now on his 18th club." In the list lower down, it says "Barry Siddall (Carlisle to Birmingham) free", which is interesting because ENFA list about 6 clubs between Carlisle and March 1995, including two EFL clubs he actually played for...
That list also includes Antti Niemi on loan from HJK Helsinki, which is news not only to me but also to ENFA and Mr Niemi's Wikipedia page. Wonder if it really happened? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:16, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Doherty

Done, for Donny and Bristol City. What ENFA also shows is a few months at Notts County in 1965/66, in a spell as joint manager with Andy Beattie, as below:

Notts County 10 December 1965 18 March 1966 13 4 5 4 030.77

From what I can gather from unsubscribed snippet view at the BNA, they were brought into a failing club as "professional advisers" to give it a kick up the arse and Coleman remained team manager during that time, as per Template:Notts County F.C. managers and the LMA. Leave that with you, anyway. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:19, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Runners-up

Hi - wanted to quickly raise an issue and ask a question regarding runner-up honours on the articles for former football managers and players (something I know you've discussed a bit before!) It appears to me that there is no actual consensus on this question whatsoever, despite claims from some that a consensus exists (I note that articles for both players and managers are wildly inconsistent, some show runner-up honours for cups and many more do not). In the WikiProject Football/Players talk page, in the discussion on this in March 2020, you noted correctly that 5 people were in favour of keeping them, and 5 against.

There is a similar deadlock within WT:FOOTBALL#Runners up honours, where I am currently engaged in discussion with a user who is claiming that runner-up honours should be included on some articles, but is apparently unconcerned at their absence in others. (I note that the discussion on this WT section also is deadlocked, with 3 against runner-up honours and 3 for). Do you have any advice as to how I might go about resolving this situation? It does seem manifestly clear to me that there is absolutely no clear consensus on this, and so to have some users who clearly feel strongly about it insist on their inclusion in some articles (but curiously not others) seems strange to me. Many thanks. Vaze50 (talk) 11:29, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

I have commented on the link. But all I can say is in situations where there is no consensus then all we can do is included runners-up only if they are sourced. People should not be crusading adding runners-up or removing them en masse because there is not that consensus either way. That's all I can say on the situation, on an individual article if the runners-up honour is cited then editors have no business removing it.--EchetusXe 16:13, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
