Template:English Fourth Division top scorers
This was a massive cock up on my part. I was doing some late night editing and accidentally moved the Championship top scorers to the Fourth Division top scorers, instead of moving the Division One top scorers template. I only really noticed weeks later, when players such as Danny Graham and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake had the Fourth Division top scorers template on their page, as well as the players who actually were the top scorers at that time. As you know, the Fourth Division top scorers template came about through another cock up of mine, and in hindsight, perhaps doing a template for the Fourth Division top scorers was a bit too much.
The Championship top scorers template is worth saving, as it is a current competition, and I wouldn't mind if you took it from my sandbox and created it again. Also, the Fourth Division top scorer could be deleted, but since I didn't create it and can't propose a deletion for good faith reasons, that's why it's been blanked. Persondata
Hello. There's the WT:FOOTY thread HERE, which says no there isn't an explanatory guide, but does give the names of a couple of people who probably know what they're doing... There's a couple of brief and simple tutorials here that give the mechanics of editing an item.
For already existing WP pages, the link to the corresponding Wikidata item is under Tools in the left-hand sidebar. What I've been doing for category:Birmingham City F.C. players is clicking the link and generally finding quite a few of the fields already filled in, which helps. I've just been adding the player's full name or any other alternative names under "Also known as" on the English language row in the box at the top, and then in the Statements boxes, making sure the date of birth, place of birth, date of death, place of death properties are present and correct. Dates tend to be there, but aren't always right; places often aren't there, so you have to click on the "add" button (below the Statements boxes and above the boxes for links to other Wikisites) which opens the properties dropdown where you select the one you want. Only tedious bit is if you type or paste in a placename and there are several possibilities to choose from, none of which have helpful descriptions.
I've found it a useful (but dull) exercise so far, because it's made me go through tidying up lots of articles that were written years ago and haven't been touched since where half the refs had gone dead. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:58, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- OK thanks, I'll take a look.--EchetusXe 22:00, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I've frequently had to go back to the pedia page, click on the wikilink to the place name: then to the wikidata item & use the Q No. to input on the data page being edited. Helps if a description can be added whilst passing by too! (Doesn't only apply to place names, but that's probably the most common instance). Also the property "member of sports team" doesn't apply if it's a manager/coach etc. Then the correct property is "employer". Eagleash (talk) 05:26, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your message. Perhaps it is a question of how items display on various devices. I'm using a 14" laptop and don't, at this moment, have access to anything different. After your edit (with Kelly at the top of the 2nd column) I see 2 lines for Inniss (with only the word "Palace" on the 2nd line — level with Brown) and Leitch "out on his own" below the rest of the table. I have taken a screenshot of what I'm seeing but am not sure how to upload it. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 05:00, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Update. On a 7" tablet (temp "requisition") the cols are slightly more even as Ikpeazu also then runs to 2 lines but Leitch still displays slightly below Brown (for some, not immediately apparent, reason!). So on 2 devices I have access to, your version leaves the 2nd column longer. Your call, Regards, Eagleash (talk) 05:14, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- There may be a Wikipedia defined standard display resolution, but I don't know where we would find it.--EchetusXe 09:02, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

- What exactly are you disputing? It is a fact he was sent to prison, and that sentence was then overturned and replaced with community service. It is a fact that the Bradford City manager Peter Taylor was only made aware of the court case the day before it happened. The only thing that could possibly be disputed is what exactly happened in the incident itself, for which he was found GUILTY by the way. Here the Daily Star reports that "Stunning Ms Mugglestone, 21, was viciously bitten, battered and bruised by thuggish Bradford City striker Jake Speight." If these claims are untrue then sue the Star. What else does the newspaper report? "He’s a vicious, controlling, possessive bully and people need to know the truth. He leaned over me and bit my eye, grabbed my boob and whacked me with a crutch. Before that, as I was driving, he’d grabbed my jaw, which was bruised. I was terrified, it was awful. But luckily he got out of the car and I locked the doors. We’d been together about two years and at first things were great. But he began to get more and more possessive and controlling. He would push me around. I’d have bruises on my body...but they were always in places people couldn’t see. We split up about three times but every time he would apologise and say it would never happen again. I suppose love is blind and foolishly I always took him back. He’s horrible." All interesting stuff, but as for the article itself we will keep to the bare minimum rather than go into such detail. Should all reference to the attack and conviction be excised from history though? Nah, I don't think so.--EchetusXe 10:47, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- There was no FA link about him being an agent on the version I edited. GiantSnowman 11:08, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
My edit
Just to clarify a few points, in the UK, sentences are spent after certain lengths of time (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974)which in this case means it would of become spent in 2012 at the latest. Additionally, by "minor" I meant one-off offence, with no major long-term punishment from the courts. I believe general consensus is against keeping these on Wikipedia articles long-term, considering the real life consequences. I'm not saying what happened was right or wrong, but we need to be mindful of such things. Mdann52 (talk) 07:52, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- Not even relevant that it was spent. He was sent to prison, what long-term punishment does there need to be? This isn't Saudi Arabia where we cut people's hands off for thieving. The real life consequences thing is nonsense. Every job he applies for, every insurance or mortgage application he must disclose the conviction, anyone who wants to Google his name will soon come across the news articles describing how he savagely beat his girlfriend in an unprovoked attack. If she had her own Wikipedia article then the attack would be mentioned on her article, why should it be airbrushed from history because he is embarrassed by it?--EchetusXe 09:25, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- Just to correct your point above, spent convictions do not need to be disclosed (or at least in the UK). I appreciate what you are saying, but we need to consider all sides of this. I will shortly raise this at BLPN for wider discussion. Mdann52 (talk) 12:31, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- There is nothing to discuss. Conviction was secured. Said conviction had a huge impact upon his professional football career, for which the subject of the article is notable. It is described with the barest black and white facts possible, not even mentioning the fact that the victim of said assault was his then girlfriend. Considering all sides: the reader will want to know such important information on the subject, the victim of the crime has told her story to the press so can be assumed not to want the incident airbrushed form history, then we have the side of anonymous IP who makes veiled legal threats and says Speight doesn't play for King's Lynn despite someone of the same name and appearance to Jake Speight having been photographed playing for King's Lynn in a match.--EchetusXe 17:17, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Yeovil Town Player of the Year
Hi, I noticed you have recently created Template:Yeovil Town F.C. Player of the Year, I was just wondering what references you have used to decide who is the Yeovil player of the season, because certainly for the last 15+ years following the club, Yeovil do not have a single player of the year award instead each of the various supporters groups and local newspapers have their own awards, so it is not always the case that there is a single unified player of the year. For this reason do you think it is wise to have a template implying the existence of a non-existent unified award. Cheers Ytfc23 (talk) 22:10, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Ah right, for the early years I think the ciderspace website included them in their season by season history then annoyingly stopped including them after 1976. For the recent ones I think it was the Western Gazette Player of the Year award. If there are multiple equally valid award then yes it is a problem.--EchetusXe 23:04, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- I don't really know what the best way to proceed is, here is a summary of the main end of season awards (excluding Young Player of the Year awards and Top Goalscorer) since the club entered the Football League.

- As you can see typically one player picks up a large proportion of the awards but until last season no player has ever picked up a clean sweep, therefore I'm not sure the best way to proceed with the template is as it isn't for us to judge whether one award is more valid than another. Ytfc23 (talk) 11:11, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, how strange. If they were two bodies giving awards we could have joint-winners some years but at least three of those bodies have been consistently handing out awards. Usually the club would have taken control of the awards by now.--EchetusXe 12:22, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Birmingham City PotY
Hello. There is one main award now, and has been for some time, there was a short period when the original supporters club one ran parallel with the newer club-awarded one. But there's no definitive list anywhere, as far as I know. Certainly not on the club website, or in the Complete Record books, or in the 2000 BCFC Encyclopedia. The only list I know of is on the 12-years-dead BCFC archive site, and even that has questionmarks as recently as 94/95 ("recently" relative to when that site was live and actively being compiled). I'd like to include the information in the BCFC players lists, and would do so if it could be accurately and reliably sourced, but I couldn't really base it on a probably-not-RS list full of questionmarks plus scrabbling around for individual sources for the past 12 years and counting. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:37, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- ah ok, shame, thanks!--EchetusXe 08:40, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
