[edit]

Hi DitzyNizzy, just to note that I reverted an edit you made to Wikipedia:Unusual articles. There are some necessarily strict guidelines which should be adhered to on the page. There are relevant categories for video bloggers and eccentrics, but they don't count as "unusual" in the spirit of the page. Cheers, Deiz talk 13:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you appear to have listed yourself as a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Eurovision. A discussion is currently ongoing on the talk page on reform of this projects goals and organisation. Proposals have been made on the future covering and scope of WikiProjects relating to the Eurovision Dance Contest, Eurovision Song Contest, and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. These proposals include possibly re-naming WikiProject Eurovision to WikiProject Eurovision Song Contest and starting a new project called WikiProject Eurovision Dance Contest. As a member of this project, you may wish to give your input at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision. Thank you. Camaron | Chris (talk) 08:16, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

I've restored the cleanup tag here. While your observation that Europe and the world are not the same thing is correct, it is most certainly the case that the current article doesn't even present a Europe-wide view of the subject. It presents it almost entirely from the perspective of the last few seasons of the Premier League. Hence the tag. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 14:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The second RfC on sourcing for Eurovision articles has now being running for several weeks, you can view it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on reliable sources for Eurovision articles. In order to help gauge the spread of opinion and draw conclusions from this discussion a straw poll has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Straw poll. All project members are encouraged to read the RfC thoroughly and then cast their votes as they see fit. Rationales are still encouraged in the main discussion area above the poll, and participants can add appropriate new sources or options to the poll as they wish. Just a great user page

[edit]

I must drop you a line and tell you how much I enjoyed going over your user page just now. (I found you because I have the Unusual Articles page on my watchlist.) I am still laughing at some of the stuff I found... that AfD thing about the Yellow Subs was priceless... and some of the grammar userboxes... I was just losing it. Especially:

???
?!?
!!!
This user terminates excessive use of exclamation points and question marks on sight. Grow up!

and

This user terminates unquoted ellipses on sight. This is not your blog. We end sentences properly.

The format of the page is quite good... I've often thought I needed my own Infobox. I may steal some of the things on your page if you have no objection. Thanks for some entertaining moments. Cheers! Seduisant (talk) 00:06, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Michael alan welker

Hello DitzyNizzy, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of Michael alan welker - a page you tagged - because: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Chris Lynch page deletion

[edit]

I agree that Chester are not in a fuly proffesional League, but they are a team which are full of proffesional footballers. Chris Lynch signed for the Burnley team squad as a proffesional at the beginning of this season, and has not only played in friendly games for the first eam squad, but had also featured heavily in the reserve's. Crusty Crouton (talk) 17:26, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To quote Wp:ATHLETE, they have to "have competed at the fully professional level of a sport". Reserves and friendlies between club teams (not internationals) don't count towards it. DitzyNizzy (aka Jess)|(talk to me)|(What I've done) 20:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bravo.... errrr, yesssss......*embarassed cough*

Oy vey... yes, I really and truly goofed there on dating Bravo; I can actually remember it launching on cable (obviously via satellite) here and managed to overlook that there was a cable version before. Shall suitably amend that portion of the AFD nomination, with suitable grovelling (or whatever :). Thanks for pointing that out... I think :) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:31, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apologize for the edit summary

[edit]

I must apologize for the edit summary at the 2010 FIFA World Cup article, using an inappropiate wording to describe your edit. The year is incorrect as it is one year later, so I change the date back. But I should not use this wording to describe the fault. The word I used is too rude and being not respect you. Sorry for that. Raymond "Giggs" Ko 16:19, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete my page, man?

[edit]

Why did you delete my page? I don't know how to add or find sources yet. Please restore it and help me find some sources. RocketMaster (talk) 10:07, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, I'm a woman.
As for the page deletion - I read through it, couldn't see how it was notable and thus nominated it for speedy deletion for being an unremarkable website. The admin that deleted it obviously agreed with me I am unable to restore it as I'm not an admin here - but if you want it back, you can click the bit in my comment about the speedy nom which says something like "one of these admins". (I'm also very busy in real life to help someone find sources.)
Finally, as for not finding sources - there's Wikipedia:Citing sources, although, seeing as you've been here since (at least) April 2006, you would have known that already. DitzyNizzy (aka Jess)|(talk to me)|(What I've done) 16:15, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LongBall

[edit]

Jess, the reason of this message is concerning your views on LongBall which is a real sport, and a very existing and competitive team sport. We are simply trying to make people aware of this game as I believe that they would benefit from its character building attributes. If this letter does not satisfy you I, an ambassador of LongBall invite you to a training match on Friday the 25th from 12:35 till 1:20. The venue is the original and birth place of LongBall, Carey Baptist Grammar School Kew, Melbourne, VIC. The court is closest to the drop off entrance. Please note we have had a few problems with unauthorized editing of the LongBall page and are considering legal action, however we have a busy training schedule. It would be very much appreciated if you could join us this Friday and withdraw your comments as a lot of time and effort has being put in to this website. I refer to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aaron Martin (Football) where you supported deleting this article; the discussion was duly closed as delete. Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 15:51, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know that the above AfD, which you participated in, has been relisted due to some significant sourcing being done since you commented. If you have time to review the changes made, it would help form a consensus one way or another - if you feel it's still insufficiently notable, by all means say so. ~ mazca talk 11:34, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If discussion has started, then BRD does not apply

[edit]

Your page move on English 2018 FIFA World Cup bid shows a total lack of respect for the discussion that has started, both on that article's talk page and at Talk:2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup bids, and claims justification from page moves made elsewhere with no discussion. You should have been able to see that the page move had already been made once and reverted, so you had no grounds to assume that it was uncontroversial. There is no way that you can claim that the discussions linked provide consensus for the changes you have made. I would ask that you revert your changes, join in discussion, and then we will all see where the balance of opinion is. I would be perfectly happy to have a centralised discussion at either Talk:2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup bids or at WT:FOOTY. Kevin McE (talk) 06:01, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is vital that everyone participates in this discussion, as it concerns the future manual of style and article layout in regards to Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year articles. This is your ideal opportunity to contribute suggestions and ideas on a major issue, which will reflect on the way these articles will be written in future. Thank You! Message from the Editorial Team

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!

Please be warm-hearted in encouraging everyone to do their best to contribute to all Eurovision-related Wikipedia articles, and welcome our new members to the project. It is easy for editors to get into conflict with each other, and things can get very nasty on the most trivial of issues, whether that be on the language of songs, the names of certain countries, or how we deal with incidents at the contest. In such circumstances it is worth remembering one thing: we are all here to build an encyclopedia, and the contribution of Eurovision to human knowledge can only be given justice if we work together and make articles, not drama!

  • If you would like something to appear in the August 2012 Edition of the newsletter, then please inform us at the Project Newsdesk.
  • If there is an article you think we should have? Request it here.

Happy editing!

Project News
  • When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.
  • Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.
  • On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into edit warring territory.
  • The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a clean-up exercise across articles relating to the project. There's over 4,500 articles associated with the project. If you happen to see a Eurovision related article without the {{EurovisionNotice}} template on the article's talk page, please add it. You can also read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess or reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment. There is currently one unassessed article.
  • And finally... a massive thank you to all members of the project for your constant hard work on collaborating and contributing to Eurovision related articles. Keep up the good work team!

Project Gossip
  • The RfC discussion in regards to article layout, is still taking place on the project talk page. Could all members please ensure that they participate in the discussion so that we can all agree on important article structure issues. If you don't take part, then you only have yourselves to blame if a consensus is passed that you disagree with.

WikiProject Eurovision: Recent changes

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

  • Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.
  • The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

If you have any questions, please ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision.

You are receiving this message since you are listed as a member of WikiProject Eurovision. If you are no longer interested in contributing to Eurovision articles, please remove your username from this page.

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

[edit]

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:52, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Eurovision: Important Announcement

[edit]
WikiProject Eurovision
Important Announcement

Dear Project Member

Following a project community discussion, which was raised over the use of English translation columns on annual contest articles, and advice from the lead coordinator of The Guild of Copy Editors, who are extremely knowledgeable in regards to all editing practises and manual of style policies. A consensus decision has been reached to fully remove ALL English translations, as such content falls under the prohibition on original research, even if it seems helpful to the reader. This is because we have now to assume that every reader has access to automated translation tools that can always give them a sense of the meaning of the title in their native language; it is not Wikipedia's job to provide those tools for the reader. Which therefore means we are no longer to include an English translation column, nor are we to provide translation by any other means on contest articles.

Such information is currently in the process of being removed, and a new table formatting and layout style is being rolled out across all articles. Please view the new guidance on table layout at Wikipedia:WikiProject Eurovision/Format and Guides#Article layout. An example of the new table layout style can also be access via the collapsed section within this message. Thank you.

Invitation to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi DitzyNizzy,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of participating nations at the Summer Olympic Games, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Congo. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
