A couple of months ago, I was browsing through the internet for motivational quotes to help me through a very difficult and turbulent period of my life. After reading tens upon tens of quotes, it was one written by British actor, Michael Palin, that stood out amongst the rest. Mr Palin wrote "I do have high standards. I look at everything I have done and think, 'Why wasn't that better?' Part of my motivation is from crippling self-doubt - I have got to prove myself wrong." Now I bet some of you are wondering why am I mentioning quotes of motivation in a newsletter concerning Project Eurovision? Well, the quote itself got me looking into contribution and behavioural standards between members and the Wikipedia community. Why is it some projects strive better than others? Why is it that this project is always look down upon as a "bunch of wannabes struggling to work together in harmony"? What Michael Palin's quote tells us is that perhaps at times some of us aim our goals in the wrong direction. Some of us show tendencies to try and prove everyone else wrong, so that we are always right. When in fact, they could actually be right, and it is us who need to prove ourselves wrong. There are maybe times that we contribute to an article and think that we have improved it better than the previous editor. Then there are times we come across a different article and think "why can't I write as good as that editor?" Perhaps when we make a contribution, we should look at it as "good, but with room for further improvement".
Another good example of motivational quotes of aspiration comes from the movie Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, in which the main character, Sister Mary Clarence, makes reference to the quote "If you wanna be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention". What some of us may lack is that attention, which gets us into edit warring troubles. Most of the time we just make a change to an article, without paying attention to the page history or article talk page to see if there are any previous reasons why such an edit has suddenly disappeared, or never been done before. Some of us come up with great ideas to improve articles further, but then forget to take into account policies such as, no original research, lead citations, and the plethora of manual of style guides that may look confusing at first glance, but after reading them over and over, they become clear as the sky is blue. So if you want to be that perfect editor, and you want to gain such outstanding recognition, then perhaps we need to look deeper within ourselves, check out guidelines and policies, listen to our peers and colleagues. Who knows, maybe the wording for that stub article you dreamt about improving to good article status, was actually within your hearts all along. And that motivation may rub-off onto others, helping us all to get along in collaborative harmony.
In the meantime, keep that team spirit momentum going as there is loads that needs to be worked upon to keep us all occupied throughout the year. Please remember to keep an eye on the project talk page as there are several active debates still taking place that require input from as many project members as possible. Some of you may also wish to join WikiProject Song, especially when the topic area we deal with surrounds itself primarily by songs. You never know, you may even pick up a few hints and tips from that project which will help you flourish as a Wikipedian editor. Also, encourage potential new members to the project by posting {{subst:EurovisionInvite}} (which will produced this template) on their talk pages. As some of you may recall, Project Eurovision banned the use of ESCKaz as a reliable source, due to the fact they were copying your work and claiming it as their own. Plagiarising of our member's contributions is prohibited if member is not attributed by the website's publications. Recently another website has been placing force on WikiProject Eurovision to use only their website when it comes to providing sources and adding content to our articles. Wikipedia is an entity within its own right, and no website has the rights to claim ownership of Wikipedia's articles. As a result, the project have now added ESC-Plus to its list of banned websites. So we urge all of our members to avoid using the website when it comes to adding content.
There are still a handful of newly created articles that are not being tagged {{WikiProject Eurovision}} on their respective talk pages. Can we please make sure that when we create a new article that the talk page is also created, What one needs to remember is that even creating the article's talk page goes towards your edit count which in turn builds up your experience in the Wikipedia community. Ten songs from nine countries took part in the 2015 ABU Radio Song Festival, on 29 May. The event does not establish a winner, but from news sources, the ABU were pleased with the organisation of the event by the hosts, Myanmar. The 2016 edition is schedule to take place in Beijing, China.
India and Kazakhstan will be making their début at the 2015 ABU TV Song Festival in October. Australia, Brunei, and the Maldives have all withdrawn. If any of you can find reliable sources to help expand the article, then please feel free to add your contributions to it. The 2016 edition has been confirmed as taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Måns Zelmerlöw won the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, with his song "Heroes"; and will bring the contest back to Sweden for the sixth time in the countries history. It was confirmed in July that Stockholm would place hosts, with the Globe Arena having the honour of hosting the contest for its second time in Eurovision history.
Viktoria Nowak of Poland, won the Eurovision Young Dancers 2015 with a choreographed routine entitled "Piece in Old Style". The 2017 edition has been confirmed as going to take place in Valletta, Malta. The EBU steering group elected this city, following the success of Malta's hosting skills at Junior Eurovision 2014.
Twelve countries have so far confirmed their participation at Junior Eurovision 2015, to be held in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia. Ireland will make their JESC début, with Albania returning. Croatia and Cyprus have both announced their withdrawal.
Turkey, after the success of Turkvizyon, have expanded the show to create their own "Junior" contest (or "Bala" in Turkish). Scheduled to take part sometime in October, the Turkmenistan city of Mary will play host to the inaugural contest. Eight countries have confirmed participation so far.
