Disambiguation link notification for October 10
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Amanda Lawrence, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ITV. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

A cup of coffee for you!
Thank you for your excellent work on expanding and improving Rukhsana Naz. Captain Calm (talk) 05:32, 3 October 2020 (UTC) |
- Thank you so much for your kind feedback Captain Calm. And for the coffee, which I could do with right now! I didn't actually mean to go full steam ahead with it, I just meant to show that it shouldn't be deleted but I got carried away. . Just adding a final section and then I'll go away and mind my own business. Thanks again - feedback, positive or negative, is always appreciated. --DSQ (talk) 07:05, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
- "I didn't actually mean to go full steam ahead with it, I just meant to show that it shouldn't be deleted but I got carried away." Then you need to read this :-) Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:44, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Haha, I'll make that list one day! That was me on a mission for sure. Who knew you could become so consumed with something so suddenly?

Hi, thanks for creating this article. I've just spent half an hour reading through it and digesting the details, and looks to be a well-written and well-researched piece.
However, I'm a little uncomfortable about it as it involves a living person, the sole surviver of the kidnapping who is now an elderly woman. We have a very strict policy for biographies of living people, that says we must get the article right, ensure it is cited to the highest quality sources, and be very vigilant about accuracy in it. I note several people have complained that Carol Ann Lee's book did not involve or consult the survivor. However, Hatchette would not have published it if there was a reasonable possibility of libel, so I am not convinced the information sourced from it is factually wrong.
You should avoid citing the Daily Mirror. It's a tabloid newspaper and the guidelines say "The material should not be added to an article when the only sourcing is tabloid journalism. When material is both verifiable and noteworthy, it will have appeared in more reliable sources." I've had a look through the noticeboard for reliable sources and I can see several discussions that state that the Mirror is not as bad as The Sun and the Daily Mail, which are both deprecated on Wikipedia and should never be used, but it should only be cited for relatively innocuous things like sports results. A murder and kidnapping case is basically at the opposite end to this.
I hope this all makes sense. I'm trying to avoid pouring cold water on your efforts - you're a good content creator who has done some great work. I'm just concerned that we don't accidentally libel anybody. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:40, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Ritchie333:. Thank you for taking both the time to read it and the time to give me feedback! Your points make perfect sense. I jumped straight in with this as a first article and I found it far more difficult than I anticipated for a variety of reasons - one of which stemmed from the fact that I was mindful of the survivor. To that end, I avoided writing anything about her life post-1977, I intentionally left out images of the family and I tried my best to only reference information from the book which was either sourced to actual witness statements or to the series of interviews she gave herself to the Daily Mail at the time. Anything I wasn't sure about, I left out. I think the issues arose re: the book because it initially claimed that she'd given consent to it being written, which she hadn't. I don't think the issue was that it was inaccurate as such. I am more than happy to go through the article again though, checking the info I've written against where it originated, if that helps?
- Now, using the Daily Mirror as a source :) I know it's far from ideal. I only had access to the British Newspaper Archives when I was writing the article - most of which, unfortunately, is Trinity Mirror. I tried to avoid using any article which was overly sensational, but I was pretty restricted when trying to find coverage from 1977. I'll go back and check what I've sourced to the Mirror and see if I can either source it better or remove it. I should've started with something more simple, huh? --DSQ (talk) 20:10, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- DeltaSnowQueen, I've had a closer look through the article today, done some editing and made some more suggestions on the peer review. I also read through some of the other Honor killing related articles and I feel quite shocked and sad about the details. I've been aware of the general subject from the news, but looking at what happened in depth is quite harrowing to discover. So thank you for writing and improving these. Gerda, could you issue a suitable Precious? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:18, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- I appreciate the help and advice you've given to me and I will act on what you've said. I'm pleased you looked through the other stuff I've done (or contributed to) and yes, they're quite harrowing to write about as well. Banaz Mahmod was the other potential article I wanted to get to GA at some point. I'm about to embark on "Honour Crimes in the UK", but I suspect that'll take me ages to do and I'll take my time with it - I'm prone to rushing, I need to learn to slow down and take more care! --DSQ (talk) 00:27, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
