Please help me with... understanding how to deal with using the same source multiple times within the same article, without clogging up the reference section with duplicates. For example, I'm trying to expand Michael J. Todd and so far the BBC Profile article is separately listed 3 times - how do I condense that? Thank you. DSQ (talk) 20:54, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi DeltaSnowQueen! This section explains how to name a reference so that it can be used repeatedly in the article without creating a new reference number. If let me know which article you're working on I can show you how it works.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:00, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Crikey that was quick! I'm working on Michael J. Todd and I keep referring to the same article. Repeatedly. I've tried to find some guidance myself, but I just don't get it. I've already broken my archive today so I figured I'd best ask before breaking anything else. Thank you! --DSQ (talk) 21:17, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- I assume it's the BBC profile and the Independent article you want to reuse? If so, you just need to give the reference a name the first time you use it, then include the reference name tag for each use after that. (Clear as mud?) I'll do the BBC and Independent ones so you can see how it's done.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:30, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- All done!-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:38, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- You're a star! I'm just looking at what you did right now. That's way easier for me to follow for future reference. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it! DSQ (talk) 21:45, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- Happy to help.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:50, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to explain the modifications I made to your edit to Darren Grimes. I removed the sentence He had, however, already declared that the interview was "bloody good", clarified that he'd reviewed it before it was published and only distanced himself from Starkey's comments following the media storm.
because his tweets that you cited didn't actually say those things. In this tweet, he said that meeting one of his heroes was "bloody fantastic", which is not the same as saying that it was a good interview; "watching this interview back" isn't specifically claiming that he "reviewed" which implies a level of editorial analysis that "watching" doesn't convey; and making the point that "only distanced himself...media storm" is observation on your part. If an independent source reported on his tweets in that way, it could be added with attribution, but interpreting the tweets and their timing yourself makes it original research and synthesis. I'm not disagreeing with your interpretation, we just can't add our own interpretations in a WP:BLP article.
If that doesn't make sense or if you disagree with me, I'm happy to discuss it further. Schazjmd (talk) 13:30, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Schazjmd. Thank you for your note and for explaining where I went wrong with that edit. It does make sense and I agree 100%. In fact, I've got no idea what I was thining now I come to look back on it! I wasn't even too sure I could cite the tweets at all and I should've gone to the talk page instead of editing it myself. Lesson leanrt and I'll be more careful in future. --DSQ (talk) 20:49, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for understanding! I did leave the initial tweet (his response to the criticism). Citing a tweet can be a gray area (see WP:ABOUTSELF for the guidelines), but I agreed with you that it made sense to include in this instance. Schazjmd (talk) 21:04, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Requesting some help
[edit]Hi,
Recently initiated a new Draft:Sexual politics and looking for proactive help in updating and expanding the article. Please do see if contributing to Draft:Sexual politics would interest you.
Thanks and regards
Bookku (talk) 10:26, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Bookku. Thank for you for your message. I'd love to be able to help you but, to be frank, I'm still a bit of a novice and might be more of a hindrance than a help. :) I don't have as much time as I would like either. I could possibly contribute something on Honor killing if that fits in to your article? I've watchlisted your draft anyway and I'll get back to you when I've completed the 2 articles I'm working on currently. Kind regards --DSQ (talk) 20:41, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Hello once again and greetings, On an average I send request messages after bit of analyzing contributions so usually I am confident enough it would not turn out to be hindrance, and I request enough no of people so it balances out. It's my way of politic! :)
All gender relation topics including that of honor killing do touch corner stone of Draft:Sexual politics some where. Following Bengal related article will help you connect dots and understand relation of honor, sexual politics and honor killing. (That may help you co-relate kind of social narrative and social politics might be at play behind scene in family and society of Banaz Mahmod)
I covered Bengal reference in Draft:Sexual politics in south Asia but I have written it too poorly and myself feeling I have not given a proper justice. So if topic interests you then you can help me out at Draft:Sexual politics in south Asia in better paraphrasing about honor killing. Of course Draft:Sexual politics would remain to be main article.
Art and drama on a 19th-century Bengal scandal reveal the gender and sexual politics of the time
You can take your time, absolutely no hurry, Wikipedia is improving on women biographies is good, but needs bit more attending of theoretical sides too and even a little support will be value wise big. Looking forward to your continued support. Thanks and warm regards.
Bookku (talk) 02:21, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
- Good Morning Bookku. I figured it might be my edits to Banaz' article that brought you here! I've nearly finished doing what I want to do to that article, then I must finish the one I have sat in my sandbox :p - that seems to be taking me forever. In the meantime I've watchlisted your other drat article too and I'll pop up on your talk page when I've got some more time. Interesting article in your link by the way. Take care and kind regards. --DSQ (talk) 07:35, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

Calliopejen1 (talk) 03:37, 28 July 2020 (UTC)- Thanks for this contribution. The newspaper articles from the British Newspaper Archive are mostly missing titles (I could get three for free, but that's all...). Could you fill them in? Thanks! Calliopejen1 (talk) 04:07, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for reviewing that for me Calliopejen1! So quick! I'll fix those titles now and thank you for tidying up the general mess I made in the references too. Kind Regards --DSQ (talk) 06:33, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Please help me with... figuring out what I've done wrong when moving my article to mainspace, because I have no idea!
I can see it doesn't have a Wikidata item ID, but I don't know if that's relevant or even what it is. Nothing else obvious stands out to me, so can you please show me what I've done wrong and how to correct it? Thank you. DSQ (talk) 14:06, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- It just means that the data hasn't migrated to WD yet, that's all. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 14:38, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Barnstar
[edit]The Minor Barnstar | ||
For doing a large quantity of good cleanup work here, such as fixing refs and copy edits. Keep it up :) --IWI (talk) 19:27, 23 September 2020 (UTC) |
- OMG! My first Barnstar! I'm so pleased - genuinely. Thank you. I've developed an obsession with references ever since that first time someone had to clean up after me :) - I left it looking like a mass of tangled spaghetti. I'm tidier now. But I still can't spell........ --DSQ (talk) 19:57, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- You're welcome :) Your article creations and expansions have been very good also. Pottery Cottage murders was a good read. --IWI (talk) 20:02, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'm just twiddling with Pottery Cottage now! :) I've left it pretty much alone since I wrote it, it gave me a migraine - possibly overly ambitious for my first article, all that digging around in newspaper archives, but I didn't realize that when I started. Thanks for your positive feedback, I really do appreciate it. Banaz Mahmod is my fave - I'm pleased with that. --DSQ (talk) 20:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yes that is very good too. I have translated Pottery Cottage murders into simple English here, by the way. Hope this is okay. --IWI (talk) 20:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
