ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:15, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter December 2019

A graph showing the number of articles in the page curation feed from 12/21/18 - 12/20/19

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

No name

Noticed you said it’s a sock of Dvasports . On the Rajinder Amarnath page . Why are taking my name unnecessarily ? What’s your problem ? Dvasports (talk) 19:09, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Is it just a coincidence that an IP edited that article within minutes of you posting a comment here? I think not. Dee03 21:32, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

There are thousands of users on the internet . I and u aren’t the only one. Don’t try to act like CBI because ur not. Before u take anyone’s name , mind your own business first .. Dvasports (talk) 01:50, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

There are thousands of users on the internet; yet you were the one who found my comment on the article history although your account has never edited that article. I may not be CBI but I've been on Wikipedia long enough to identify WP:SOCK behavior and you have just passed the WP:DUCK test. Talking of minding one's own business, it was you who came to my talk page after trying to vandalize your uncle's article twice. Dee03 23:08, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Jay Shah

On 28 December 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jay Shah, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Jay Shah oversaw the Gujarat Cricket Association's project of constructing the world's largest cricket stadium? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jay Shah. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Jay Shah), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Reason for block warning ?

I have provided you with a proper published source which mentioned that delhi cricket association felicitated all the players who captained delhi In first class cricket . While 1980 was the year in which my father captained delhi . What is the harm in adding it in his info ? Why are you deleting the edits and threatening me with blocking ?

I haven’t added anything fictitious but have only added something that is real and to back it up I have shared the most recent published proof as well . Don’t understand the reason for this behaviour ? Dvasports (talk) 20:05, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

@Dvasports: You need to add that "published proof" to the article in the form of a citation so that the information can be verified by anyone who reads the article. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for a detailed explanation. You are not being helpful by asking others to find that source; the WP:BURDEN lies with you to find the source and add it to the article since you are inserting that statement. Alternatively, you may submit an edit request on the article talk page and provide a link to the source, and someone else will do it for you. Dee03 21:55, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

DYK for PR Man Singh

On 20 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article PR Man Singh, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after the Indian team won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, their manager PR Man Singh ensured that Wisden Cricket Monthly editor David Frith would "eat his words"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/PR Man Singh. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, PR Man Singh), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Speedy decline

Hi. I have declined your speedy deletion nomination for 2021 Indian Premier League. This is a season in one of the world's largest and most popular sports competitions and is clearly not a hoax. CSD G3 is for articles which are clearly and unambiguously about hoaxes, and this definitely isn't. ElAhrairah inspect damageberate 20:23, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

@Elahrairah: I know how big the IPL is. There is no evidence in any reliable source that the 2021 season will be held during the specified dates. Can you point me out a suitable link to back any of the claims made in the article? Dee03 20:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
@Dee03: That doesn't mean the whole article is a hoax. If you think the claims about the dates or venues etc. are untrue you can change them if you can find them, or remove them altogether if not. But as a subject, the 2021 season of the IPL is clearly not a hoax. There may well be good reasons to delete the article, but G3 does not apply. Consider AfD. ElAhrairah inspect damageberate 20:30, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
I said any of the claims. There is not a single sentence of verifiable information in the entire article. I have restored the redirect for now. Dee03 20:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
I think that's a good solution, thanks. For future reference, would you mind pinging me if responding on your talkpage? I might miss it otherwise. Thanks. ElAhrairah inspect damageberate 16:44, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum

Hello! Your submission of Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! DeCausa (talk) 19:21, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

i saw your rejuction to this page. i cannt understand the basis. i had given morethan 4 references to that page. as a film personality who worked under morethan 20 different films and reffered in the star magazines of this country. he had references in local languages magazines. but i cannot give local language refereces in english wiki. that is the limitation of wiki not a personality or page. any how i will try to improve the page. but the minimum quality must not be above two three valid citations. you can check the reliability of that websites and if you are not satisfied with that you can delite it. --Dvellakat (talk) 08:30, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

@Dvellakat: You can add local language references on English Wikipedia. There is no restriction on that. You need to provide references that have WP:Significant coverage of Purushan Alappuzha and not just a passing mention of him. The four references currently in the draft are just database listings which are inadequate to establish notability. Dee03 16:20, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
sir, i hope all the references given to Draft:Purushan Alappuzha are the pages in his name or his contributions from the valid malayalam film sites. how you can say that {https://en.msidb.org/displayProfile.php?category=screenplay&artist=Purushan%20Alappuzha} is a passing referance. {https://www.malayalachalachithram.com/movieslist.php?s=3727} is also a page dedicated to him. there are many articles like new year approved. see here there is only one link that also a local site. then why this rejection to purushan only?--Dvellakat (talk) 16:54, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
The article needs references to newspapers, magazines, etc, that provide WP:Significant coverage about the person and not just trivial database websites whose job is to list the work of each and every artist. For an example, see Anjali Menon; that article has references like 1, 2 which cover her life and work in detail. Until and unless you add such references (be it in any language), the Purushan Alappuzha article will not get published. Dee03 17:22, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Dee03,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Draft: Rohit M Reddy

Hi Dee03, I read your message on Draft: Rohit M Reddy and made changes in the tone of the content to formal as mentioned by you. I have also made a few changes to the structure of the entire article to stick to Neutral Point of View. Request you to take another look at it and accordingly suggest what could be the next step to take it live. Suvidhagp (talk) 12:13, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

While the tone has improved, I still don't see any reliable source providing significant coverage of his life/work in detail. All the references are PR pieces, self-published articles, YouTube videos, etc. Dee03 16:18, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Dee03, Thanks for your valuable feedback. I will look for more reliable sources providing significant coverage of his work and add them to Draft: Rohit M Reddy in my next edits to improve the overall quality of the article content. I will then notify you to take a look at it. Suvidhagp (talk) 04:22, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Tushar Vasisht

Hi Dee03,

I saw your message on Draft:Tushar Vasisht. I have deleted awards and changed all occurrences of Tushar with Vasisht. I request you to elaborate on what the duplicate citations problem is about.

Vasisht also has references even before he founded the company, such as [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Can you suggest what other changes should be made to the article? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.186.83.177 (talk) 11:51, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

I will fix the DUPCITES issue for you. Some of the links you have posted here are not in the draft though, can you add them in the appropriate places in the draft? These links can help assess his notability during review.
Regarding suggestions, you should get rid of promotional sounding words like "inspiration" and probably expand the "poverty experiment" bit as it has generated plenty of coverage. And I don't think he can really be called a "musician" in the lead section, seeing that his music work seems to be limited to his college days. Dee03 16:28, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi again Dee03,

I have made the modifications suggested by you. Can you take another look now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.186.10.190 (talk) 08:29, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Accepted. Although I feel the poverty experiment bit could be expanded. Dee03 12:14, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello Dee03. Can you change the spelling in the page name to "Vashisht" ? I don't know how to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.186.81.180 (talk) 14:04, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Done. BTW, do read WP:SIGN and WP:INDENT. Dee03 19:27, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
