Thank you
Thank you for leaving links on my talk page, and for all of your direction. Do you happen to know if using an Associated Content link in the External link section is acceptable? I am aware that AC is NOT acceptable as a reference, but can it be used in the external links is what I'm wondering. Thanks.--Jklein212 (talk) 09:36, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- I just checked, and unfortunately no, it is not possible - because that domain name is in the 'spam blacklist', it is not possible to link to the pages - in references, external links, or anywhere else. For information about why, see m:Spam blacklist/About. Cheers, Chzz ► 16:11, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Hello!
Do I need to configure my browser to get this to work? Thanks in advance! White Man From Town (talk) 11:50, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. That link requires Java; if you already have Java on your system, it will work. If not, you could install java from here, or - probably better - you could use a different IRC client; see WP:IRC for instructions on this. Cheers, Chzz ► 15:58, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks so much!
Hi :)
Thanks so much for your links and help. I have been making my way through the tutorials starting with the "how to create an article" "citations" and "formatting" ones, but the bit of info on how to delete an article was just buried very very deeply! Thanks for giving me the instructions for future reference! Have fun and best wishes!

Wrestling
Hey again, can you tell my please who is the maneger or incharge of the Proffesinal Wrestling Portal? YanT5 (talk) 21:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- We don't have managers or people in charge, on Wikipedia. Everyone is equal.
You could ask anything you like (about the wrestling articles) in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Professional wrestling. Just create a new section there and ask your question. Good luck, Chzz ► 21:25, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Previously you had asked about whether there are really exactly 100 figures in Fountain of Time. When I did a first count in the could whether a couple months ago, I doubted it. I did a recount this week. I counted 95 or 96 figures. However, it is difficult from the back to recall which figures you could see from the front. I would guess there are exaclty 100. The FAC is off to a good start, BTW. Feel free to come by and comment and thanks for all of your past assistance.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 21:49, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia
I just noticed at Wikimedia that if youre logged in to Wikipedia, you're also logged in to all the related sites as listed here
Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikinews, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, Wikibooks, & Meta-Wiki
All you have to do is create your user page.Meteorman7228 (talk) 22:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, it's called unified login, and is quite a new feature. It means that nobody else can create an account with the same name as yours on other projects, so if you do ever contribute to Wiktionary, or Japanese Wikipedia or something, it will all be tracked under your same user name. S'clever. Chzz ► 23:11, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

- Westbrook (C-Train) looks great. One thing though - it desperately needs some references, to show where the information comes from - like a book, for example. I'll put a note on your talk page in a minute, which is my own little 'guide to making good references'.

Hi
space (a space between word)?
Why, when I need more space then once and it's only showing one space.
Can you help?
Cheers,Nebulae1 ►Chat 02:29, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. Yep, multiple spaces are ignored, so you have to use a special code for a non-breaking space.
- If you put this;
This has three spaces between the words, foo baa.
- You get this;
This has three spaces between the words, foo baa.

Trying to update entries around the field of biodiversity informatics
Hi
I added the original (very brief) entry for TDWG some years ago. I was sponsored by the Moore Foundation to 'modernise' TDWG and added the entry at the start of the project (and I was on the TDWG Executive Committee). I mentioned the entry to members in the hope that it would be updated by those who had been in the organisation for a while. It hasn't been. After a few years,
I've just gone back to look around for various biodiversity informatics entries and see many are out of date and many issues don't have an entry. So, I'm planning to see if I can foster some updates, and add some of my own. I recently spurred some activity on Darwin Core. I'll need to learn about the technicalities (I'm used to Twiki) and the Wikipedia process.
BTW: I'm using Wikipock. It is amazing.

Message from IP re. Kadampa
Hi Chzz Sorry about the misuse of banners on the New Kadampa Tradition talk page.I am new to the medium. All I am trying to do, as you will see if you read the discussion page under the final, lengthy section, is to make sure that NPOV banners are a feature of the page, plus citation tags. There is a team of NKT editora who have been pushing any negative info off the page for quite a while now. They have a history of unjustified edits, removal of properly citee material and generaly hiding facts about the group of which they are members. I have stuck the info on the talk page. Sockpuppetry is also an issue. All I know is that this group is highly controversial but when you look at the page its like they are squeaky clean. A large number of contributors have just given up on it and the result is one sided info on wiki-like I say, its not what is on there that is controversial, itsa what hass been eradicated. These people are religious zealots, like the scientologists of Buddhism, and they are shating the medium and the public. Please read the stuff and, bearing in mind i get a little wound up by constant unqualified removal of the tags, look a the long history of abuseYonteng94.192.139.167 (talk) 13:31, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Vandals
How do you submit disruptive vandals to an administrator so that they can be blocked? Wireless Keyboard: Chat 23:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- File a report at wp:AIV --DougsTech (talk) 01:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, DougsTech :-)
- Wireless Keyboard, please note that you can do a lot of the stuff yourself. The easiest way is to use a tool such as WP:TWINKLE, which will add buttons to your menu allowing you to warn users (politely) for vandalism. Please be careful with this powerful tool - make sure that it really is vandalism. Then, choose the appropriate warning, depending on whether the user has received prior warnings or not. If the user has already received a final warning, and has continued to valndalise, then yes, you need to ask an administrator to take action, and WP:AIV is a place to do this. You can also use AIV if there is significant rapid ongoing vandalism - see the AIV page for more informaiton.
- I hope this helps; if you're ever unsure of anything, please do ask for help. Cheers, Chzz ► 12:09, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Welcoming
Please do not stop or slow down welcoming new users. A quote from Jimbo's page "Newcomers are always to be welcomed. There must be no cabal, there must be no elite, there must be no hierarchy or structure which gets in the way of this openness to newcomers. Any security measures to be implemented to protect the community against real vandals (and there are real vandals, who are already starting to affect us), should be implemented on the model of "strict scrutiny.""
Don't let Ryulong stop you from contributing within policy. He blocked my use of huggle for "welcoming too many users", and he is currently undergoing a long Request for arbitration concerning abuse like that. Just thought I would make you aware! --DougsTech (talk) 01:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I have responded; thank you both for not overriding my decision, and for notifying me of your comment. AdmiralKolchak (talk) 12:02, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you very much. If it can't be done on this occasion, I won't be too upset, but felt that it was worth a shot. I've worked with that new user, and they have so quickly adapted to all of our caveats - improving references, changing the layout, adding wikilinks, date formatting, and all kinds of other things (most of which I offered advice about, mostly over IRC) - so I wanted to do all I could for them. Chzz ► 12:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome, and well done on helping the editor. As I said in the nomination's discussion I did think hard of breaking the rules on account of being a new user; if this were an established editor we were talking about I would be less convinced of using IAR. As it is, this new user has done good work in a short time. AdmiralKolchak (talk) 12:29, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey. Bit puzzled by your nom statement for the AFD. Separate tenet of Bhuddhism? Did not see that coming. Find nothing on Google that connects the two. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 02:04, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- 'tenet' = An opinion, doctrine, or principle held as being true by a person or especially by an organization.
- I felt that the article did not fit the criterion as a separate, distinguishable facet of the religion, by seeking such a definition on Google, etc. Chzz ► 02:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I know what a tenet is (thank you just the same)-- I just see no connection between the two. I see nothing in the article to suggest it has anything to do with Buddhism, let alone as a facet. I know little about Buddhism. Are you saying you know for a fact that Jobwa is a part of Buddhism? Cheers, Dlohcierekim 02:34, 13 May 2009 (UTC).
- PS Could you expand on the nom statemet? "Little content" is not a valid rationale for deletion. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 03:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've changed the nom statement. Whatever this article may be, it's not notable. The AfD discussion and this thread are now many times larger than the article itself; I see no point in wasting further time on this. Chzz ► 10:44, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

This edit is not reflective of reality. Please revert. Thank you.--Lost Fugitive (talk) 03:04, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- The problem here is that the only reference is to 'allmusic.com' which describes itself as, "a place for music fans to indulge their passion". This makes me believe that it is not a reliable source. As far as I can ascertain, we don't have a suitable tag that says, "Not referenced except for something that is not a reliable source". I have searched on Google, but was only able to find a passing mention in a pay-to-view article, here.
- My concern, therefore, is that the article as it stands does not meet the requirements of general notability guidelines, as it lacks evidence of 'significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject'. I have, however, not nominated it for deletion at this time as I am hoping that it might be possible to locate an appropriate source. Chzz ► 11:02, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Allmusic.com is a very reliable source, and is used in all album articles. Again, please revert your edits. --Lost Fugitive (talk) 17:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- As far as I can ascertain, whether or not allmusic.com is a reliable source to assert notability has not been definitively established through policy; for example, see this discussion.
- I will, of course, try to fix the problem by locating a suitable reliable source, as soon as I have the time to do so. Chzz ► 23:25, 13 May 2009 (UTC) bump Chzz ► 11:10, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello/COI issue
Hello, I am writing to you in good faith as I noticed your comments on user:Xtian1313's Talk page related to a user who appears to have a COI regarding the Jessicka article and articles of related persons/projects (I personally have been working on the Clint Catalyst page). I would like to request a check of User:Hullaballoo Wolfowitz's IP address to provide some clarity into the motivation behind their systematic dismantling of these pages, as it seems there may be a personal issue between that editor and the subjects involved. Granny Bebeb (talk) 05:22, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there. First of all, welcome to Wikipedia.
- A piece of advice - stick to discussion about article content, and avoid getting embroiled in discussions of other users. This makes for a much happier experience. This does not mean that you should ignore bad edits, and indeed if you feel that a user is making a series of bad edits, then by all means address that issue - just remember that the goal is to improve the article(s), and not to blame/punish etc. For example, when a user is banned, it is to prevent them from disrupting Wikipedia articles. It is not to 'punish' them for bad behaviour, and we will do all that we can to get that user back on-board and contributing usefully.
- The above is just my own humble opinion and advice. Your mileage might vary, etc.
- Now - the checkuser policy states, "The tool is to be used to fight vandalism, to check for sockpuppet activity, to limit disruption or potential disruption of any Wikimedia project, and to investigate legitimate concerns of bad faith editing."
- I suspect that you feel this fits the latter category. If so, you should contact a checkuser.
- I hope that this answers your question; for more help, you can either;
- Leave another message here;
OR
- Use a helpme - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put helpme, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end;
OR

Problem Editing
In the article- Category:Former empires, some Empires need to be added, but Im not able to edit it. Can you guide me as to how to edit it? Kindly help. Also, how exactly should the reference of a serial for an article be written (i.e. the format and the syntax) and what all should be mentioned- the title of the serial, it's director, the associated historians... ThanksKesangh (talk) 14:54, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Categories work 'the other way round' - any pages that contain the code

will appear in that category.
- So, to add articles to the category, you edit the article - and put that at the end.
- Note, it can take some hours for the category page to update.
- See Wikipedia:Categorization for more halps with this.
- Re. 'serial' - I'm not quite sure what you mean by that - do you mean a journal of some kind? If that is the case, you could use template:cite journal. In other words; you would put something like;

- Reference: Orvieto#San_Giovenale
- First - the picture wasn't displaying in the article because the name wasn't quite right (capitals) - I've fixed that with this edit.
- Regarding categorization of images on commons - I've fixed this by removing . It is in the category commons:Category:Churches in Orvieto.

- You can edit your user page just like any other page. I can help you if there is any particular 'fancy thing' you want.
- You talk to other editors just like this - by putting a note on their talk page. You can also talk live, via IRC. If the Java link] doesn't work for you, then perhaps you could try connecting via Mibbit. This is a non-java way to access IRC through a website. Here's how;
- Go to http://www.mibbit.com/chat/
- In the IRC Server pulldown, choose 'Freenode'
- In the 'Channel' change #chat to ##chzz (note, two #'s)
- Click 'Go' and say hello

Warning email!!
Hi Chazz,
Need some advice.
I have edited two articles and received a warning by a racist called 'Obi2canibe'. He has said that I am putting false details that they are my own view point and that the details I have given are non-verifiable.
This is not true, all my editing references are in fact first accounts of events that happened in Ceylon from Portuguese records and British Colonial records. I even have photocopies of some of these from the British Library, as in the case of the 'Colbrooke Commission'. While I have put up firsthand accounts to these articles, Obi2canibe has put in references that were written by people just a couple of years ago, giving their interpretation of history and I must say most of his references, any valid historian would in fact laugh at. While my main reference 'The temporal and spiritual conquest of Ceylon by De Queyroz is stated by all historians as been the most accurate account of jaffna. While by the way is available in most well stocked shops in Sri Lanka and is also in Amazon.com.
Why has Wikipedia allowing a racist to spread lie's like he is doing on these articles, while I am been criticized for expressing actual historical facts. I did use the title of 'Alternative History', so that both view points are their represented in an article. If I can be, open to the idea of allowing all options, then why cant Wikipedia??
GuyanGuyan46 (talk) 03:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Regarding anything 'off-wiki', I can't comment. The email gateway is an optional conveniance; you are quite within your rights to ignore emails, or even block them (if your email client allows such). Please note that there is no way for the sender to find out your actual email address unless you reply.
- Regarding the article - it's not an area I know anything about, so all I can suggest is that you follow normal procedures and debate the changed on the articles discussion page. The more input you can get, the better, to reach a consensus. It often helps to leave a brief note on the talk pages of any significant contributors to the article (check in the history) and ask them to contribute to the discussion. You could also ask people on a suitable project talk page if they could look in on the discussion on the article talk page and add their opinion. If that fails, have a look at WP:DISPUTE - which isn't as bad as it sounds, it offers some very constructive ideas on how to break a deadlocked situation.
- Best of luck with it, cheers, Chzz ► 17:19, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

new user
Hi there,
I got a message from you after making my first edit. I hope it was ok! I was born in St. Thomas Ontario and lived there for 20 years and my family all still live there, so I feel competent to "tweak" the listing a little.
Ctaylorluce (talk) 02:49, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! Yes, your first contribution looks fine. Just a couple of things;
- Please always put something in the 'edit summary', which is a box below the main edit window. Make a note saying waht you have done. This makes it easier to look back through the history of the article, and see who changed what. For example, if you look at the history of St. Thomas, Ontario, you'll see that some people have left edit summaries and some haven't. It's much easier to see what has happened for the ones with edit summaries.
- Secondly, although local knowledge is very useful, be careful. All facts must have references to reliable sources - such as newspapers or books. The reader should (in theory) be able to verify all the information, by looking where it came from. It is quite easy to use a reference, you do it like this;
Chzz has an IQ of 9000.
As long as the article has a references section, the reference will automatically be added; it'll look like this;
Chzz has an IQ of 9000. [test 1]

NEW page does not show on wikipedia search list why?
I just created an entry for the producer David Mackay. But when I searcher for his name alone he doens't show on the main search. Lots of other people do who have the same name but not him. The only way you can find the entry is through the direct link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Mackay_(producer). Please can you help me. What am I doing wrong?

- Hi there.
- I don't think that you have uploaded the picture to Wikimedia commons yet? You need to do so; go to commons:upload and follow the instructions there. Note the filename you upload it to. In licence, you can choose 'Public domain'.
- Then you can put the picture into the article with code such as,

- which results in the image shown here.

My first edit soon, deleting a false claim, how to reach consensus when no discussion?
Hi Chzz, and thanks for your comment in the discussion I tried to start on the page about "Palestine", here:
Untrue claim about ADRIAAN RELAND in section 3.2.1 Travelers' impressions of 19th century Palestine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Palestine#Untrue_claim_about_ADRIAAN_RELAND_in_section_3.2.1_Travelers.27_impressions_of_19th_century_Palestine
I want to delete a false claim probably based on a wrong translation of a page in a 400 year old book written in Latin (available online at google books), and wonder if there is personell in Wikipedia-community who can do a translation of the page, and/or read the whole book, and give an opinion in relation to the claim? Credible and impartial translation, and maybe opinion..
This because it is hard to find a "counter-evidence" explicitly saying that the claim is untrue. Just like it is hard to find a source explicitly saying that it is untrue that President George Bush did travel to the moon in 1995, if someone should ever claim he did.
From the discussion it seems that my arguments and evidences are not enough, and a translation of the source referred to, is needed.
I would like to reach consensus before I do the edit (removal of false claim), but it seems nobody do want to discuss and/or comment my arguments.
So, any suggestions about translating from Latin to English, and reaching consensus when nobody bother to discuss?
Regards --Wikiexaminer (talk) 16:35, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- It's great that you are waiting and working toward consensus. I will investigate this, and reply to you here, soon. Chzz ► 17:16, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Having reviewed your issue, I recommend the following course of action: WP:BRD. I do not suggest this lightly, but I think that it could work in this case. Your changes seem justified; if you make them and, in the edit summary, put 'see talk page for discussion' or something, all should (hopefully) be well. If people disagree or change your edits, then discuss the matter; do not make the same edit again.
- If you have any problems, give me a shout; otherwise, my advice is: be bold. Chzz ► 01:03, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of my entry about Ted Carfrae
I see the entry I have made on the multi-platinum-selling producer Ted Carfrae is set for deletion.
I have spent the day trying to perfect the entry as I really believe he deserves a place on wikipedia as he has sold over 10,000,000 records world-wide. I had researched his career through my music work on Cilla Black. I have done my best now to add as many references and also chart positions and details of any awards he has which I could find out about him.
One person said he is not a "notable producer" and doesn't have any awards but that is not correct as he has produced album's which charted and as a result been awarded multi-platinum discs by the British Phonographic Industry (which I have stated on the entry). I also have a photo I took of him holding his awards (the BPI discs) which as soon as I am allowed to upload it will add to wikipedia.
I am scared after all my research my entry will now be deleted. I wanted him on wikipedia as I am currently updating Cilla Black's wikipedia entries which touch on Ted's work. Here is the URL to Ted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Carfrae —Preceding unsigned comment added by Britboy1976 (talk • contribs) 17:37, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- Firstly, don't panic. Even if an article is deleted, you can still get it back; you can ask an admin to put a copy in your user area, and you can work on it there etc.
- Second...later. Chzz ► 00:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Second, I cannot find a reliable source to prove notability per WP:BAND - for example, no results from Google news or Google scholar.
- If you have a source to assert the notability, then please let me know. Otherwise, I'm sorry, but the article shouldn't be on Wikipedia. I hope that you will understand why we (and that is, the community, including you) have come up with these policies. Chzz ► 00:29, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- But I have now provided allmusic and MSN music sources which list some of Ted Carfrae's music credits (which as you will see support a lot of what I state re. the album's he produced). I have then linked to the chart stats site which then provides chart positions which substantiate that he has had hit albums. I can also upload as soon as I have permissioned a photo I took of him which shows him holding his silver/platinum discs award by the BPI for sales. I feel because of the array of stars he has worked with over his career and because of his chart success I would class him as notable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Britboy1976 (talk • contribs) 00:41, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. I understand, and appreciate your efforts. For what it is worth, I also, personally, think that the person is 'notabable', according to my own personal opinions; however, I like it is not an appropriate argument. I've scanned through the various policy on notability - WP:GNG, WP:BIO, WP:BAND, WP:COMPOSER and can't see anything applicable that would allow me to !vote to keep it.
- The external link to the chart stats shows the notability of those artists, and notability is not inherited. In the same way, we don't have an article on Michael Jackson's gardener, etc. I suppose it would be possible to cite the albums themselves, to 'prove' that he worked on them - if they have his name published on them; however, even if that were done, I don't see how we can have an article giving information such as his date of birth, birthplace, or any other details about his life because, as far as I can see, there are no reliable sources asserting these facts. Chzz ► 17:56, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
User:Supersentai again
Since you helped the editor, I think you can be a good adviser for him. Can you talk the guy? The guy even not only disruptively edit wars for his "agenda" based on unreliable sources but also "canvassed" to encourage other editors "revert Korean editors' edit".[3] That comment based on "ethnicity" is very insulting, and he does not understand any policy at all. I think the user really needs the "adoption program" or he might be getting in a sanction soon, I guess. Could you guide him about usages of reliable sources, avoiding edit warring, and adhering to neutral point of view? Thanks.--Caspian blue 04:05, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I will do what I can; I see little point in lots of nasty notices - that can often be counter-productive, in as much as it can annoy users and make the situation worse. My intent is always to improve Wikipedia - hence I'll do all I can to help the user understand how to contribute. I do, however, understand your concerns, so after reviewing recent contribs, I've put this.
- I will do whatever I can. Thanks, Chzz ► 17:29, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Supersentai continues to edit controversial material without reliable sources[4], and even removes a reliable secondary source in English that's doesn't fit with his or her POV.[5] If you don't mind, can you please try again to help him/her understand the importance of citing reliable sources, and what reliable sources are? Welcome messages
Hi Chzz, Just wondering whether you got any replies re. your welcome messages & what people said? dottydotdot (talk) 07:36, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hiya,
- I haven't sent any your yet. I started looking at the user I'd welcomed, and it all got rather complex - for one thing, my welcome message has changed several times. Then, the majority of users who sign up soon vanish without trace. Of the remainder, a lot of them I've had direct dealings with, either on their or my talk-page or on IRC, and therefore surveying them seems perhaps inappropriate. So - not as easy as anticipated. I'd like to look at this more, but it's not high on my long list of things-to-do.
- The things is, although I don't have statistics or analysis, I do know that quite a few users (who received the welcome) have either posted to my talk page, asked questions with a helpme, or chatted on IRC. A considerable number of these have made valuable contributions to Wikipedia, and several have gone on to be quite substantially involved in the project. I've given a lot of personal guidance and help to many users who are now, in turn, able to help others; if it takes 1000 welcome messages to make one of these, then I think it is all worthwhile.
- So - I'm not dismissing the idea of the survey out of hand, but I don't plan to use it any time soon. Hope this makes sense, cheers, Chzz ► 13:13, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- That's fine-I can see there could be difficulties! No problems, see you around! dottydotdot (talk) 13:19, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

- Yes, cool, I think. It's good that you didn't spout loads of policy. I think its important to try and gently guide them in the right direction if possible - don't hit them with too much at once, and demonstrate by example that we're all working in the same direction etc.
- Generally, yes, I think the reply was fine. It could probably use a bit more 'don't worry, welcome, we can sort it all out' type of reassurance, IMHO, maybe at the end say 'if I can help you in any way with this, please leave a note on my talk page, or you can always talk to us live. - Yes, I know, it's a bit confusing. The template automatically puts on the warning if it's put on an article, but it can't tell the difference between an article discussion page and a user talk page. Anyway, no big deal to move it.
- The idea is that the discussion pages are kept for talk about the article, and help requests are between 1 user and the helpers - so we tend to move 'em over here.
- If you need more help with the merger or anything else, you know how to find us.

Google hits
Hiya. A Spanish user enquired about the speed at which search engines like Google pick up new articles. Is it usually anything up to a day before they refresh thie indexes, would you say? Is there an answer to such a question anywhere on WP? I couldn't find one. Would you imagine the Spanish Wikipedia has the same Google responsiveness as its EN counterpart? Matta, Trafford09 (talk) 09:44, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Google engine indexes pages periodically with a web crawler, and uses PageRank to assess the importance of each link. Wikipedia, like other web sites, has no direct control over this procedure and how long it takes. Many sites do attempt search engine optimization, but with limited success.
- Typically, in my experience, new articles appear in Google within a few days of creation, but the timeframe is variable and beyond our control.
- I have no specific information about the Spanish edition of Google, but I see no reason why things would work any differently.
- Further information may be available from Webmaster Help, the forums of which are also available en Español.

- Hi. I have added the image with this edit, using the code

, which displays the image as it is shown here. I added in the 'present day' section, of course you may wish to move it. Also, you could add a caption, such as;
.
- I think that the reason you had problems was, you copied the filename from the URL (with underscore characters) - you needed to use the name shown on the commons page - ie just "Dair Mar Elias.jpg".
- If you ever get stuck, please do ask for help. You can either;
- Leave a message here on my talk page;
OR
- Use a helpme - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put helpme, and ask your question;
OR
- Talk to us live
Help!!
This is Pumpkinman4 and I think I deleted most of Virginia Gubernatorial Election, 2009. I did not mean to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pumpkinman4 (talk • contribs) 21:28, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Don't panic :-) All it was, there was a 'hidden text' comment with no closing part, so the main body of the article got commented out. Don't worry, we all make mistakes :-)
- A hidden comment starts <!-- with and ends with -->. Anything between the two is not shown; in this case, there was a comment at the start with no ending, so the main body of the article was 'commented out'.
- There was also a }} missing from the end of the infobox.
- I fixed them with this edit. Keep up the good work improving articles, and ask for help whenever you need it. You could also talk to us live. Cheers, Chzz ► 23:00, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

- Yes.
- Please use the sandbox for test edits, and please 'sign' your name on the end of your posts, by putting '~~~~'. This will automatically add your user name, and the date/time. Cheers, Chzz ► 00:23, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
thanks for the welcome
Just wanted to say thanks Chzz for the welcome. I'm an avid wikipedia reader, and just thought I'd start making some contributions. I appreciate the welcome. -- I believe I have a sense of what the editing guidelines are all about. I'm sure I'll get more understanding of what makes for good edits as I go on.
Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pier440 (talk • contribs) 01:58, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Excellent! Let me know if you need any help, at all. Cheers, Chzz ► 02:07, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
I went to the Lizzie Robinson House article and added some information. I'm the one who wrote the nomination for the National Registry of Historic Places, but I don't see anything about the life of Mother Lizzie Robinson how should I write this article or include it in the existing one. Elijahhill (talk) 02:12, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- (When you discuss things on talk pages, it's helpful to include a link; for example, above, I've added Lizzie Robinson House to give the link to the article - ie, just put it in and ).
- Right, well. It is largely up to you. I would strongly advise, before you do anything else, to follow the stuff in that 'welcome' message; create a test page, play around, etc. Edit a few other articles, and get used to the way things work.
- If you want to add things to Lizzie Robinson House, then that's great. As long as the facts that you add have references, to relibale sources. For help with how to add such references, see my tips here. Everything added to Wikipedia needs to be verifiable.
- I hope that all this 'policy' stuff will not put you off; it's really not as bad as it sounds. If you decide to make a new article, then it is best to make a page in your user space, work on it there, and then ask for help to get it checked before making it 'live'. For example, you could make User:Elijahhill/Lizzie - click on that red link, create the page, edit it, add references, etc.
- Ask for help whenever you need; good luck with it all, Chzz ► 02:47, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
New Page
I just created a new page on wikipedia. It is about the DeLuca Mob. I couldn't find any references, but i know its a real mob. They wounded my brother and killed my uncle over drug money. I hope this isn't deleted, I just want people to be aware of whats out there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theodori89 (talk • contribs) 02:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- I can't find anything in Google News or in Google scholar or Google Books - there are some mentions of 'Deluca' in the latter, though.
- If we can't find suitable reliable sources for an article, then it will be deleted. All the facts have to be verifiable
- This means that the article probably will be removed, quite soon. In order to make such an article, it will have to have verifiable information.
- If I can help in any way, please let me know; the best thing to do would be, get involved in editing some other articles first, and learn the ropes; see my welcome message for information on this.
- Good luck, Chzz ► 02:55, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome message!
Thanks for the welcome message, that was quite unexpected.
I finally decided to join because I ran across an article Rich Communication Suite that was annoyingly non-neutral, and had been so since October last year. Now, when I get some time to properly research the references I'll need as well as see if I can get any discussion on it, I'll try to improve it.
By the way, I love the Emergency Wikipedia Shutdown button. ;) Benevo (talk) 03:01, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh no! I hope that you didn't press it! Good luck, and ask for help whenever you need to. Cheers, Chzz ► 03:08, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
