Draft:Correns Corporation

Hello CFA, thanks a lot for reviewing the draft article. I will do my best to revise the wording into a more encyclopedic format and remove any potential peacock expressions.

But with the requirements on the references, I have difficulties to understand the feedback. From my point of view, only following references are not meeting the necessary requirements:

3) Correns, Claus (1990). Meinen Freunden zum Abschied. Tōkyō: Nansosha. ISBN 978-4-8165-0042-8.

4) "Introduction - Correns Corporation". Introduction - Correns Corporation (in Japanese). Retrieved 2024-03-28

7) Boerner, Lisa (2014). "50 years DB Schenker in Japan The journey has just begun" (PDF). www.dbschenker.com (in English / Japanese). Schenker-Seino Co., Ltd. p. 34. Retrieved 31 May 2024.

However, they are cited at the text sections a,b,c and d. And all those sections were also covered with the other references, too. Even having some references which are not from an objective source can be ok under certain circumstances. Example, as reference of companies turnover figures. Also the information of the industries where the company is involved is most likely known by the company itself better than from other sources. So I believe that the reference to the website of that company is acceptable, unless there is contradicting information available.

Thus, kindly be asked to point out which reference else is of your concern, if any. My motivation is, so far, to keep the above 3 references within the article, for reason of completeness. Therefore I have added the additional sources to back up the topic with independent sources, too. Looking forward to your reply.

@Merged account: Hi, on Wikipedia, companies must meet the notability guidelines for organizations in order to be eligible for an article. That is:
A company, corporation, organization, group, product, or service is presumed notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject.
We're looking for reliable, independent news articles, books, etc. that go in-depth about the company. Right now, none of your sources show that the company meets these guidelines. A good number to look for is 3 independent, reliable sources that offer in-depth coverage. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:04, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Zaza language

Hi there,

I would like you to search for information on that topic. I have done four days of research and found that most of the information in the section about the Zaza language is incorrect. I corrected it, but a user named “historyofiran” reversed all my changes. I corrected it again, but you reversed it this time. I hope you can address this issue so that Wikipedia can be a better source for people trying to learn about culture. Many are trying to separate Kurdish people and add propaganda to the Wikipedia page about Kurdish people. Hope you understand. Raykoosi0 (talk) 00:28, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

review of "Draft:Cignaroli Academy and Brenzoni School of Painting and Sculpture"

Hi, CFA! After your rejection of my draft I've added sources on the last part as you suggested me. Would you please take a look at it? Thank you very much Neuromancer2022 (talk) 08:55, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@Neuromancer2022: Thank you for taking the time to improve it. It's looking much better. There are still a few paragraphs that don't have inline citations attached to them. Generally, you should aim for every paragraph to have at least one inline citation so readers are able to verify the information. I would suggest working on that, and then another reviewer should check it out. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:00, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Photo help (my work)

Hello CFA,

I am attempting to upload some photos (spacecraft, satellites, rocket launches). I was a aerospace engineer and have a nice collection of these archives. When I try the system thinks its not my work and denies me. All the photos I took personally with a film camera (1980's and 90's). Is there any assistance you could possibly offer?

Thank you in advance CFA! Nist2024 (talk) 14:29, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@Nist2024: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Are you trying to upload them on Commons with the File Upload Wizard? I'm not very familiar with Commons so I probably can't help you if you're getting an error there. I suggest asking at the Teahouse or the Help Desk where other editors are able to way in. If you're having trouble on Commons, asking at the Commons Help Desk will probably give you the answers you need. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:27, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you CFA! I will try that. Nist2024 (talk) 16:19, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Academic Capitalism

You recently reviewed the article Academic Capitalism and made a comment I don't understand at all. When you say "The term does appear to be used, so a separate article may be warranted" what exactly are you referring to? Additionally, you are citing the reason for the decline due to what I think you are trying to say is the 'tone' of the article, and opinions in the narrative...can you please point out 'opinions' because I don't see it. The article is written as an academic term, thus it does read like a journal as many academic terminology articles on this platform currently read. Not to mention that as many times as this article has been reviewed, no one has ever said that about the narrative. This makes me wonder exactly where you're coming from. Thank you for your explanation. Geraldine Aino (talk) 11:32, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@Geraldine Aino: Hi, I was referring to the notability of the subject. Since the term appears to be the subject of multiple reliable, secondary sources, it most likely meets the general notability guidelines (i.e., it's not an unused neologism). That was a note to future reviewers. Now, I'm not sure if it warrants its own article or if it should be merged into a parent article (like Capatalism), but that is an editorial decision that can be made later. Right now, your article reads like an essay. Wikipedia articles, like all tertiary sources, are supposed to summarize what secondary sources say about the subject. See this paragraph for example:
Academic capitalist expands revenue sources for higher education during times when state budgets are tight. The authors also note the trend of increasing professionalism in administrative support for new economy activities. Unfortunately, these same new layers of administration contribute to the rising costs of higher education, in some cases negating the revenues from academic capitalism.
It appears to be synthesis based on your own reading of a source (words like "unfortunately" do not belong in neutral Wikipedia articles). There is no citation attached to that claim either. I'm not sure what you're referring to by saying "as many times as this article has been reviewed" because, as far as I can tell, it was only reviewed once before. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:20, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response. I understand what you were trying to say now that you have explained it👍 However, I would like to reiterate my opinion that the article does not read like an essay, but in fact reads like most other terminology-based articles on Wikipedia which are academic in nature. None of the narrative is of my own opinion whatsoever. The section you referred to is objective. The article has been reviewed several times, all with different reasons for decline. Although I am not the original author, I am certainly no stranger to getting articles approved, and this one seems one of the better efforts. At this time it's not worth my time anymore to argue about it's notability and will abandon the attempt. Geraldine Aino (talk) 17:22, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Request on 01:48:10, 2 August 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Novalindanger

Hi. My draft has been denied a few times despite the updates I've made. I really want to follow all of the rules and make this work.

For instance, the feedback I got back mentions I need to have reference(s) that meet all of the 4 criteria: in-depth (not just brief mentions about the subject or routine announcements), reliable, secondary, andstrictly independent of the subject. Looking at the Polygon article that is linked and reference, I feel it checks all 4 of those boxes.

When it comes to "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia", I feel I'm writing it from a neutral point of view, but please tell me what I can do to meet this need better.

Thanks so much!

Novalindanger (talk) 01:48, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

@Novalindanger: Hi, at the moment, your draft's references do not show that the subject meets the general notability guideline which is the main criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia. We're looking for significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. A good number to look for is 3 in-depth reliable, independent articles, books, etc. entirely about the subject. Here is a source analysis detailing why it was declined:
Consider finding more significant coverage and resubmitting. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:58, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi! You made comment, and i do not agree with you. Please, can you look at the sources? I added this comment 3 times -Sources 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 , 11 are public articles, not interviews made about the individual and his work. Those are not some crazy paid puff, but different articles. So instead of creating a page about this individual as and artist,I should make 5 pages about his songs which are widely recognized and on global charts? He also produced a piece of art that was widely recognized. I believe the fact he wrote songs for Madonna, Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown also speaks for the notability. thank you. J2009j (talk) 06:19, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@J2009j: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm not sure why you're asking me. Your draft was declined 4 times by other reviewers since I last saw it. I have nothing to do with the other reviewers' decisions. When I reviewed it, you were citing Wikipedia and Last.fm (both extremely unreliable sources) in a biography of a living person, which was enough for me to decline it solely because of that. In terms of notability, WP:NMUSICIAN criteria #2 does not apply because he was one of many producers on a Madonna song. He must meet the general notability guidelines instead, which requires significant, in-depth coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources. Here is my assessment of the sources you listed:
So, yes, you may be better off writing an article about one of his albums if you can't find any in-depth coverage about him. C F A 💬 14:47, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
For the criteria 2#- it is not only the song of Madonna, but song of multiple people. - Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown and other. There are sources in Korean for example. I do not speak Korean. I added this - His song "Four Seasons" recorded by South Korean singer Taeyeon, claimed the number one spot on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks and reached number 6 on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.[1].
criteria 11 also applies here- Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network.
criteria 10- performed at main places - such as Hollywood bowl, Tomorrowland and other main festivals as dj. J2009j (talk) 15:30, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
@J2009j: Sure, but criteria #2 in this context applies to Madonna, Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown, Taeyeon, etc., not Afsheen. Afsheen was a producer, not the musician, and thus is subject to different notability guidelines. Criteria 11 may apply if any of his songs have been placed in rotation by a major radio network, but not if any of the songs he produced did. Criteria 10 is referring to songs that have been, for example, used as soundtracks in notable movies, not where they have been performed. C F A 💬 15:38, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Hm, so in case these works are those he produced- should we apply the category producer then or maybe songwriter? For producer that would produced a significant piece of work- which would be song. I did not add songs of "Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown" and others in the article specifically. I added k-pop, Lindsay Stirling from recent. J2009j (talk) 15:44, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
@J2009j: I think your best bet is looking for more in-depth sources about him so you can show he meets the general notability guidelines, instead of trying to prove he meets WP:NMUSICIAN. There is clearly coverage about his albums, and he did produce for notable artists, so maybe try finding a few more independent, reliable sources, then resubmit. C F A 💬 15:50, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks.I know, but many people who work behind the scenes do not care about publicity so in some cases there are very few sources. I had the same case for another page I made, he even had an Emmy and still no publicity. I added sources I could find. Can you take a look since you already are familiar with the article? I also found some charts- look at his credits. Those are well-known names - https://norwegiancharts.com/showperson.asp?name=AFSHeeN But no publicity, weirdly. I added what I could find on Google. J2009j (talk) 16:14, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, it's looking better. I'd say you have a fairly high chance of getting it accepted, considering the fair amount of spread-out coverage. This Latin Grammy nomination, more interestingly, because it's in his name, may actually satisfy WP:NMUSICIAN #8. I've left a comment for future reviewers. C F A 💬 16:48, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! J2009j (talk) 17:29, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi again @CFA. I found this - For the criteria 2#- His song "Four Seasons" recorded by South Korean singer Taeyeon, claimed the number one spot on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks and reached number 6 on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.https://www.festground.com/articles/afsheen-min-jiryuh/534
Think criteria 11 also applies here- Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network. J2009j (talk) 04:36, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Well, no, because again, both criteria #2 and #11 apply to Taeyeon, not Afsheen, who was a producer. Producers are not presumed notable if a song they produced charts, only the musician is. C F A 💬 16:51, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

About the edits of Sine qua non

I recently had a chat with an admin. The admin said we were edit warring. I came here to warn if the IP edits Sine qua non, not to revert. Also both our vandalism warnings were unwarrented. The admin says no vandalism had taken place. So I am giving you a warning before we get sanctions placed on us. Thanks for understanding, Felicia (talk) 18:16, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

I am aware it is technically an edit war. I reverted their edits twice and attempted to start a discussion with them on their talk page. They didn't respond. I didn't revert them again because I don't really care. Their edits certainly aren't constructive, but if they're not willing to discuss, there's not much anyone can do. Hello there, thanks for taking the time to review Draft: Oli Dugmore. Would it be possible for you to reconsider your conclusion here? I see there is a lengthy interview (i.e. significant coverage) with the subject by Cherwell (newspaper), an independent publication, which given the verbatim nature of the reportage, this is likely to be reliable. There's also an interview of him from journalism.co.uk. Dugmore is all over the internet, has appeared many times on TV, and runs PoliticsJOE, with over 300 million YouTube viewings. Chumpih t 06:34 + 45, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

@Chumpih: Hi, interviews generally don't count towards notability. This is especially true in this case where the articles are essentially just transcripts of the interview. There is no secondary, journalistic content here; they're just primary sources. Journalism.co.uk is a PR/advertising publisher for journalists so I doubt it's independent anyways. The rest of your sources are either unreliable (e.g. YouTube), non-independent (e.g. press releases), or only offer trivial mentions of the subject. A good number to look for is 3 independent, reliable sources that offer in-depth coverage about the subject. Happy editing, C F A 💬 14:25, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. A few counterpoints:
  • YouTube isn't inherently unreliable (per WP:RS/P). And on matters regarding the number of views for a channel etc., it is the most authoritative source. The other cites there are in reference to the Oxford Union and similar presentations - not the 300,000,000 views the subject's channel has gathered. For sure, the content in the videos is not being cited.
  • The website journalism.co.uk is effectively a trade magazine, and is independent of the subject. A categorisation of it being 'PR/advertising publisher for journalists' is not supported by the site's Wikipedia article.
  • Re. the WP:IV and the interview in Cherwell, that newspaper has strong editorial oversight (per entries on WP:RS here and here), and on the subject (Oli Dugmore) the interviewee (Oli Dugmore) is presumably at least knowledgeable, so the criteria in that essay are likely satisfied.
  • To categorise the reportage of the speech at Oxford Union where the subject was speaking alongside Nancy Pelosi as 'trivial' is debatable. And while that piece wouldn't convey WP:NOTE on its own, it proves statements in the draft page.
I agree, WP:3REFS (or indeed WP:THREE) is a worthy threshold. Likewise with WP:SIRS. Chumpih t 21:19, 4 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, ⁣

Thank you for your review of my article. I made changes to present a more neutral wording. One thing I didn't do was adding more or different sources. I have different sources such as a German public broadcasting (no private TV station), huge newspaper and the official page of the cologne cathedral, as well as some of the artists pages. Do you really think I should add more? Can you give me a hint maybe, what kind of source you would suggest I would be looking for? Thank you and have a nice day!

SimonMüller87 (talk) 13:31, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

@SimonMüller87: The article is looking better, but some parts still read like an advertisement. For example, Throughout its history, the company has contributed significantly to the development and international recognition of glass art. is purely promotional and doesn't even have a citation attached to support the claim. For an organization to be considered "eligible" for an article on Wikipedia, it must meet the notability guidelines for organizations. That boils down to having significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. Usually three in-depth articles about the topic in three separate independent, reliable sources is what we're looking for before we accept. Here is a source analysis of the references in your draft:

Your recent draft rejection

Recently, you rejected the draft of the article Kalin Stefanov (backgammon player), without actually reviewing it, because fellow editor DoubleGrazing had rejected it before, stating that (1) a main Stuttgart media is not independent of me (the subject), (2) articles written solely about me (the subject) do not provide coverage about me and are "just a passive mention, also thus contradicting with his own statements from last month when he APPROVED 2 of the current sources, and required an additional one similar one for the draft to be approved. This is why the draft was resubmitted when the new source, the main Stuttgart media Stuttgarter Wochenblatt's report about me (the subject) was added to the draft.

Of course, the quick unreasonable rejection from Double Grazing followed and I resubmitted the draft awaiting proper review. Then you, without reviewing it, declined it due to his previous rejection.

I am here to ask you to kindly explain (1) how a main media is dependant on me (the subject) and (2) how articles written solely and only about me (the subject) are "not significant coverage, but only a passive mention of the subject".

After you fail to provide an explanation for these, I prolly expect you to approve the draft, which has since been resubmitted again.

Should action not follow, I will be forced to take further measures against you and Double Grazing.

tony award

Hi I want to clarify and discuss your tony Award comment. the outsiders won the tony award for Best New Musial which means the producers also win the tony award for best new musical. So yes, Marylee Fairbanks, as a co-producer has in fact won the tony award. i not sure how else to prove it other than if a person is listed as a producer of the show and the show has won the tony, the producers win the tony award. Do you need further paperwork? Maybe i can find an article to explain how the tony process works? woud that be helpful?

as far as editing, i am happy to exclude the early work if reviews and casting notices are not proof enough. So i will go in and edit everything that is not mentioned in the Boston Globe and resubmit.

Thanks so much and please let me know if this is sufficient Childrenandart (talk) 14:35, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

@Childrenandart: No, it wasn't awarded to her specifically, so she does not meet WP:ANYBIO criteria #1. If she had won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical under her name, for example, then it would apply. What she may meet is WP:NPRODUCER criteria #3 for [creating] or [playing] a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work. Considering her name is only mentioned once in the musical's article as Other producers include Betsy Dollinger, Cristina Marie Vivenzio, The Shubert Organization, Marylee Fairbanks, Debra Martin Chase and others., and there isn't much in-depth coverage about her, it suggests that her role in co-creating was not "major" enough to qualify under this guideline. Regardless, people who meet these guidelines are not "presumed" or "inherently" notable, there is just likely enough coverage to meet other guidelines. Currently, the only source that contributes to the basic notability guidelines for people is The Boston Globe article, with nothing outside of that. Reviewers generally look for at least 3 sources like The Boston Globe in order to accept. Consider finding more in-depth, independent coverage in reliable sources before resubmitting.
Also, you have not disclosed your apparent conflict of interest. Disclosure of your COI is a requirement for having your draft accepted. You have created two drafts, Michael Christoper Fairbanks and Marylee Graffeo Fairbanks which have collectively been most of your edits. I have left instructions on your talk page. Hi there, Thanks for the comment on the draft. I'm still getting the hang of some of the specifics & standards of things on Wikipedia for different kinds of pages. Just a sort of response/query about some of your comments.

Source 1 and 2 are primary sources.

Fair, I can edit in alternatives for these.

Source 3 is a random blog.

Locus Magazine is not a random blog. The specific web article cited is from their July 2022 print issue of the magazine. Locus Online has won Hugo Awards, the main magazine has won numerous. It's a staple of science fiction & fantasy media.

Source 4 is your best source, but it is more about her book than herself. Same with source 5.

Both sources are more about her book, but they are used to illustrate the praise & awards received for her work.

Source 6 is another primary source written by her.

Source 6 is neither a primary source, nor written by Missouri Williams. It is written by Matilda Battersby. The Bookseller is also the premier UK-trade publication for publishing & literature. I'll go about editing in some better references for things tonight, but I'd appreciate some clarification on those points.

MakoDan (talk) 15:49, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

@MakoDan: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have to say: Locus Magazine has a really terrible website for a published magazine. But yes, you're right, it does appear to have some editorial control, although it also seems to do paid reviews which won't help here. Regardless, it is again, an in-depth article of her book, not of the author. This type of article helps when writing about her book, but doesn't do much otherwise. To meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, there should be enough significant coverage in independent, reliable sources of the author to write a biographical article.
My comment on source 6 was a mistake. I accidentally skipped a source and numbered it wrong. The Bookseller may actually be your best source. It offers at least a couple paragraphs of coverage on the author herself. Source 7 is a primary source written by the subject, which is what I was referring to. I do believe the subject is notable, but your references could use some work to help show that. Happy editing. C F A 💬 16:05, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi CFA, Thank you for reviewing my article.

Last week, I received notice that you had rejected the Bitzino draft on Wikipedia because it appeared I was being compensated for drafting the article. As per your instructions, I responded to assure you that I was not being compensated or affiliated with the company or topic in any way.

Today, I noticed that the reason for rejection has been updated to state that the topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia's notability guidelines, the article meets both the General Notability Guideline and the Subject-specific Notability Guideline for organizations and companies.

Could you please let me know what specifically I should adjust to make the article acceptable for inclusion? Additionally, could you inform me of the specific reasons for this rejection? I currently have three articles in the draft phase for publication on applied cryptography topics and have been active in editing several other pages. Understanding the exact requirements would help me avoid similar issues in the future. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Thanks Gerrybo80 (talk) 09:45, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

@Gerrybo80: Hi, I rejected your draft because the subject does not meet the notability guidelines for companies. The rejection reason has never changed. I rejected it instead of declining it because I did the research myself and found absolutely zero significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. No amount of editing or adjustments to the article can change that. If I allowed you to resubmit it, it would be wasting both your time and future reviewers' time. Next time, to make sure you aren't wasting time, you should try writing an article forwards (i.e. finding sourcing before starting the article). Let me know if you have any other questions. Recent rejection of draft on Jesse Green

Extended content
Hi there,

You recently rejected a second draft version of an article on NY Times chief theater critic Jesse Green. I have to say that the approach you spoke of seems pretty dismal. First off, this person is the chief theater critic at the largest independent theater criticism sections in probably the largest theater ecosystem in the world. He has been in that role for 6 years and has had no Wikipedia article. There should be a baseline acceptance of some notability, as if it were the article on the president of Nauru or the winner of the Tour de France. The mechanism of Broadway, which controls the performance of theater through the United States, Canada, and other English-speaking countries is extensively influenced by this person.

And in response to this self-evident notability, you pick at the fact that I happen to include citations to his reviews—i.e. citing that he gave such and such play a good review and then including the review for reference—as well as a couple independent works about him (literally 2 out of 40 references, as well as one personal essay that he published w the Times) from other parts of the New York Times which, for its faults, does institute serious protections against conflicts of interests in its reporting. You also dismissed the other sources either because you don't seem to like or know them (BroadwayWorld is a trade news site that is recognized and relied on in the industry) or because you didn't realize or care that they were in the draft article (You dismissed references from BW and the NYT, but ignored citations from the LA Times, New York Magazine, The Forward, The NY Observer, Playbill, Ms. Magazine, and 3Views). Each of those organizations are independent secondary sources that are considered reliable and published. And each of the articles cited was not a passing mention, but an article directly about Green or his actions. Even if you wanted to pretend, incorrectly, that BroadwayWorld is no good or that I shouldn't include a reported piece about Jesse Green from a different part of the NYT, despite it being out of his hands completely editorially speaking, there are more than enough sources to prove notability. I did also include links to two tweets, but had a separate article as well that linked to and talked about the tweets; if anything, I would only consider it too thorough, though if that were your only objection I would happily jettison those two offending citations.

I don't know what your process for reviewing the draft article was, but I would honestly with all due respect, not be surprised if you skimmed the reference page, saw multiple reviews cited as well as an unfamiliar website, and decided on your judgment there. It is discouraging to have searched for and included extensive reference to the figure in reliable publications only for the reviewer to take one glance at a couple sources the reviewer happens to look down upon and declare the whole draft article bunk. It's almost like it's a reviewer's preference to reject an imperfect article, rather than make Wikipedia bigger or better. Too bad. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 03:56, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

@Dizzycheekchewer: This is quite the wall of text you've given me to read through.
The "baseline acceptance of some notability" is specifically why I declined your draft. It does not meet the general notability guideline, Wikipedia's baseline notability standard. And no, this is nothing like the president of another country or the winner of the Tour de France, because they will have, no questions asked, had extensive coverage in independent, reliable sources – the requirement to be eligible for an article. I count 16 (!) references to non-independent publications. That is not appropriate either in terms of verifiability or notability. I can assure you your draft will not be accepted until those citations are replaced with secondary sources, or the claims they are cited to are removed altogether.
BroadwayWorld is not considered a reliable source on Wikipedia. That's not my doing but it is a fact. You can see why it is not allowed at WP:RSP#BroadwayWorld:
BroadwayWorld is considered generally unreliable, as it contains many articles that reproduce press releases, disguising this as authentic journalism. As the site has limited editorial oversight, and the true author of the content of press releases is obscured, this website should generally not be used for facts about living persons.
Surprise, surprise, your draft is of a living person. Wikipedia takes verifiability very seriously when it comes to biographies of living people.
Twitter is user-generated content and thus unreliable.
Random blogs on Medium are more user-generated content and thus unreliable.
Your draft will not be accepted until Wikipedia's strict notability guidelines are met and all statements are cited to a reliable source. I encourage you to read Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people to learn why that is.
Hope this helps, C F A 💬 04:19, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
I find that reference to BroadwayWorld's unreliability fascinating and take it under consideration. Everything else talks past what you call the wall of text that is someone who spent a bunch of time on a second draft of a piece earnestly responding to an utterly paltry rejection.
My point about baseline notability wasn't that it superseded general notability, which is met in the 7+ reliable references (laid out at the end of the second paragraph in my original reply) that you completely ignored for no apparent reason. It's that the chief theater critic for the New York Times is a pre-eminent high profile individual, and an article about him deserves far more credence than you seem willing to give.
Furthermore, your reference to "16 (!) [sic] references to non-independent publications" seems to include instances where the subject is writing in a specifically Wikipedia-allowed role as "a newspaper reporter covering a story that they are not involved in except in their capacity as a reporter." According to Wikipedia's guidelines, a reporter or reviewer writing dispassionately in a reliable newspaper like the NYT is considered a non-connected, independent source.
But on your counterclaim about baseline notability, everyone would agree that the president of Nauru merits a Wikipedia page, but this page certainly doesn't seem to meet the general notability standards as you interpret them, with only 2 secondary sources, neither of which are green on the reliability page that you cited. Wikipedia is a better place with an iffy article on the president of Nauru, than to have a gap with no good way to know anything about him.
For what it's worth, the notability guidelines you linked only confirms the validity of my submissions. It italicizes and details the various baseline requirements, saying that "a topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." As long as the subject has received significant coverage (say, 7+ such examples none having to do with BW or the NYT) in reliable sources that are independent of them, Wikipedia says they should be presumed to be suitable for the article. Maybe the bar is at 8 such examples or 9 or so on, but the guideline on its face seems to confirm the validity of the draft as submitted.
Everything you cited above is guideline and the way I interpret it (and the way I have seen it implemented throughout Wikipedia, including in the subject more tenured predecessor's page) seems to be much, much less stringent and forbidding as the way you interpret. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 05:42, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
@Dizzycheekchewer: Being a "high-profile individual" means nothing in terms of notability. That essay you've cited is used on Wikipedia to determine if a living person is only notable for one event. Being considered "notable" has nothing to do with fame. Rather, he must have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. And no, I am very confident in my answer that anything from the NYT does not count towards notability. Per the essay you cited: In short, we are looking for secondary sources written by third parties to a topic that have no vested interest in the subject of their writing or coverage. This means generally not anything written by or on behalf of the subject or anyone connected with the person or organization in any way. Obviously anyone working for the New York Times is connected to him. I don't doubt that the information published is accurate, but it does not count towards notability. And this isn't even referring to the 10+ sources written by the subject in the article, which, for the most part, count as primary sources.
Wikipedia articles do not have to have sources in the article that show notability. If you google "David Adeang", you'll see plenty of in-depth, independent coverage. Feel free to add those sources to the article. It's also worth noting that politicians who have held national office are by-default presumed notable, so this example does not apply here anyways. When submitting through Articles for Creation, however, the sources must be in the article to show notability.
In terms of other sources in your article:
Reviewers generally look for 3 sources similar to your Forward article in order to accept. Multiple articles in the same publication essentially only count as one source in terms of notability, so you're at 2 right now. I don't doubt that there are enough sources out there to show notability, but they are not in the article at the moment. Now, I probably would've accepted your article with these sources regardless, had there not been the issues with sourcing that I discussed above (too many primary and unreliable sources). Please consider improving these issues and resubmitting. Happy editing, C F A 💬 13:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
You claim a piece of coverage is "hardly significant because it is about someone else entirely," even though the subject is mentioned in the headline and the piece deals exclusively with one person publicly criticizing the subject. Ditto for an article about prominent people in the person's industry publicly calling the person out by name and the context surrounding that. And then an article that is deliberately not mentioning Green by name while responding to his review, saying in the headline "Forget the Times"—he is the Times in that context!
We have four separate incidents (Vogel and Nottage, Raisin in the Sun, KPop, and The Catastrophist) where the writer's writing (i.e. his life's work) have spurred prominent, direct responses that have been covered in reputable sources. And when I cite the results and path of that coverage, which all stem from his actions and his behavior, you pish it off because then you can claim that there are only 2 legitimate sources, when there are clearly more.
It is frankly comedic that the one source you find acceptable is a short opinion piece responding to the announcement of Green as critic, linking to the press release you object to and a couple of pieces the subject wrote, while not providing any information besides what's in the other pieces you object to. There
I assume there is some burnout from reviewing legitimately iffy articles and the constant churn, but now an article that I had waiting for a month, that you concede you probably would've accepted (even after dismissing, for varying reasons, multiple references in reliable sources), is back on the backburner because you decide something that many many existing, good articles have (I would urge you to look into articles about practically any contemporary critic) is something you oppose enough to warrant rejection. It seems to come from, at best, a place of rigidity, rather than a place of considered judgment or of a good faith interpretation of the Wikipedia guidelines. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 15:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Look: I'm not going to help you any further with notability if you're going just going to repeat what you've already said. As I said previously, the main reason for my decline was because of the poor sourcing in a biography of a living person. I'm telling you straight up that no reviewer will accept the draft when half the article's references are to primary sources and there are several unreliable sources (BroadwayWorld, Twitter, Medium). This is a pretty standard decline. There's no point in arguing about it. Just remove/replace the unreliable sources and at least some of the primary sources, add a couple more sources with significant coverage, and resubmit. Thank you. C F A 💬 16:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
There were two BroadwayWorld citations, one of which was only included because it was a clearly legitimate piece of reporting that directly quoted someone I was quoting. There were two tweets cited and one medium article cited, again as a place being directly quoted from; for each of those primary sources that I cited, I also included a reputable secondary source (the NY Observer and Playbill) detailing the dispute. I included the primary sources as where I was quoting from and for the sake of thoroughness. So we have 5 out of 30+ that are, by your measure, unreliable.
Another set of the 30, around 10 or so, were works by the reporter, acting in his role as a theater critic, reviewing theater. The essay on notability that I cited earlier explicitly notes that such sources are perfectly valid for citation, and I see them cited through the website. It is only an essay, but that essay was linked to me directly in the notes around the rejection. Even if it is not written in the guidelines explicitly, it is clearly a predominant strain of thought amongst people concerned with notability. I would also cite wording from the guidelines themselves:
"This guideline applies to authors, editors, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, architects, and other creative professionals. Such a person is notable if:
  1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors;"
That is, in a Wikipedia-worded way, exactly what I was referring to earlier when I referenced the baseline notability of as important a figure as Jesse Green amongst his peers. He is, by his position, the don of theater criticism in the Broadway world. According to the guidelines, that in itself has merit, in addition and beyond, if need be, the number and tenor of sources.
"The main reason for my decline was because of the poor sourcing in a biography of a living person." This claim is not at all borne out in what I received from the automated system. There were your comments about twitter in the text you wrote, but the reason code offered by Wikipedia was:
"This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."
That implies that the main reason is notability, which is why that is what I was talking about. Either way, I've resubmitted the article with the offensive pieces excised, except for citing the journalist's work. Dizzycheekchewer (talk) 17:35, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
No, the two decline messages, along with my comment, that I left you were:
This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Which implies I saw issues with both referencing and notability. I'm closing this discussion because you are not interested in listening. C F A 💬 17:39, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Direct Listings

I hope that the main issue is that I had the link to the source of stock trading volume data in the text, rather than as a footnote (now footnote 4, I think, linking to BigCharts.com).

GNVquant (talk) 20:59, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

@GNVquant: Thanks for the improvements. The fifth paragraph is still completely unsourced, so it is unclear where that information came from. Is direct public offering not the same topic? C F A 💬 21:07, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the prompt and useful feedback.
The Wikipedia entry on Direct public offering (DPO) is fine, except for the first sentence, which is completely wrong. A DPO is NOT a direct listing. Direct listings involve registered securities. The DPO Wikipedia entry should be altered to delete “or direct listing” from the first sentence. DPOs are essentially small  private placements of unlisted securities, as the Wikipedia article correctly describes. Direct listings are the initiating of trading on Nasdaq or the NYSE by companies, many of which have market caps of tens of billions of dollars (such as Coinbase and Spotify), and are not private placements. Should I edit the DPO Wikipedia entry to remove the incorrect “or direct listing” phrase?
By way of background: I am widely viewed as the world’s leading academic expert on initial public offerings and direct listings. When Spotify did its direct listing, for instance, the CFO sought my advice. When Google decided to do an auction IPO in 2004, management sought my advice about the merits of an auction IPO versus a bookbuilt IPO.
For the fifth paragraph, the information about the reference prices mainly comes from the same source as footnote 3: My website, where I give the numbers for every direct listing. I didn't add a footnote because I didn't want to have too many references to my website, which is widely used by journalists, venture capitalists, money managers, and academics. Should I add a footnote linking to my "Direct Listings" page? GNVquant (talk) 21:32, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Questions about IMBD, NY Post and Broadway World

Hi CFA, I'm helping to put up Darlinda Just Darlinda's wikipedia page and I'm curious why these links below aren't considered reliable link sources? Or are we linking them incorrectly? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Rebecca https://www.imdb.com/ https://nypost.com/ https://www.broadwayworld.com/ RebeccaMRosenthal (talk) 18:44, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

@RebeccaMRosenthal: Hi, IMDB is not reliable because it is user-generated content. The Wikipedia community decided the New York Post is not reliable because it has a history of publishing incorrect information and poor fact-checking (see WP:NYPOST). Broadway World was also deemed unreliable because it reposts press releases disguised as authentic content (see WP:RSP#BroadwayWorld). More importantly, who is "we" and how do you know Darlinda Just Darlinda? And who is Victorlewisg, who created and submitted the draft? ChatGPT and the other user

I just wanted to ask you what telltale signs made you determine that user Raayaan9911 was using ChatGPT in responding to me. I certainly felt like I was talking to a brick wall because the responses were so off-the-wall and irrelevant to what I had said, but my initial inclination was to chalk that up to any or all of (a) someone for whom English may not be a first language, (b) someone who may have been using templated responses, (c) someone with "special needs" (I won't take that comment any further than that), or (d) someone who just plain wants to troll. I have some suspicions that Raayaan9911 might be a sockpuppet of (1) a user I reported earlier this summer who was then banned and (2) the user (now banned as a sockpuppet) who made the edit that prompted my edit summary about which Raayaan9911 was purporting to complain, but the usual investigative tools aren't turning anything up so far. As you will have seen from my comments, I found it puzzling and annoying that someone who's been a registered user for two weeks would adopt such a high-handed approach, but if it's a use of generative artificial intelligence that would explain a lot. Long way of saying, I'm interested in knowing what you looked for to identify such a use. Thanks! 1995hoo (talk) 16:04, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@1995hoo: I find it pretty easy to recognize at this point. Stuff like It's important to maintain a respectful and professional tone in all contributions to ensure a positive and collaborative editing environment and If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. We value your contributions and are here to support you in maintaining a positive and respectful editing environment. are classic ChatGPT responses. It just isn't natural. I imagine English isn't their first language judging by their responses (Ahh Okay i Type Myself) and otherwise poor grammar in articles. I only found this user because their grammar in articles was so poor that it was flagged as "potentially unconstructive" on Recent Changes. Now, there's not necessairly anything wrong with that in itself, but ChatGPT is certainly not helping. C F A 💬 16:19, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! Most of what I know about ChatGPT comes from the stories in the legal press here in the USA about attorneys who have landed in hot water when they tried to use ChatGPT for legal research and it fabricated case citations (obviously a huge problem that will not get a happy response from a court). But I agree, the "We value your contributions" language was exceptionally strange for a single user to employ, especially a new user who is pretty obviously not an administrator. Incidentally, I would never have found this user but for a message the user left on my talk page complaining that I used "offensive language" in an edit summary, apparently referring to my use of a grawlix. Hopefully I won't have any further interactions with that user! Thanks for the information on ChatGPT. 1995hoo (talk) 16:25, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
It's also worth noting that GPTZero (an AI detector) returned "100% AI" for both of their responses, now that I've checked. It's pretty much guaranteed at this point. C F A 💬 16:34, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. All the more reason to delete the comment that started all this from my talk page, then. I very much appreciate your assistance! 1995hoo (talk) 16:42, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
CFA I Never Use a ChatGPT Again in Articles. If you think i made mistake? You can leave me in talk page Raayaan9911 (talk) 20:47, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
Speaking of Raayaan9911, I noticed on my first day (two days ago) that he sent me a notice on my talk page. He accused me of vandalizing the Build.com page. However, all my edits were in good faith, attempting to make the page less of an advert. He also sent a warning about me to SHCarter, though I don't think he saw it. When I approached him about it, asking him for a good reason for the reverts, reminding him that his threats to suspend me were empty (he is not an admin), he simply reverted his reverts, and deleted everything related to the incident. However, you can still find the discussion on my talk page. He also edited my page without asking simply because I tongue-in-cheekly used the {user rickroll} template on my own page, which is really a nothing burger. Do you have any idea why he seems more concerned about policing me than actually helping the Wiki? Oxfordcommasaregreat (talk) 13:28, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Super dangerous.I believe wikipedia article was made on purpose. What do you think? J2009j (talk) 23:28, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

@J2009j: I have no experience with Simple Wikipedia so I'm not familiar with their guidelines or how they work. There's an entry here at Michael Graziano that was accepted by Articles for Creation in 2010, likely because the subject met WP:NACADEMIC (see this section on the talk page) – which has different requirements than the General notability guideline. NACADEMIC is one English Wikipedia guideline that I'm not very familiar with. I tend to avoid academic articles at AfD and AfC unless they are an obvious fail. You are free to nominate it for deletion but I have no clue if the subject meets NACADEMIC so I won't be of much help. Happy editing, C F A 💬 15:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Those are two different people. The one on Wikipedia is a scientist, and on simple wikipedia- that is a scammer. Two completely different pages. So I do not understand what is happening here. When you remove "simple" from the link of scammer it takes you to the different wikipedia page of the scientist. J2009j (talk) 17:24, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
@J2009j: Huh. You're right. They are both described as a "scientist and novelist" but are about different people. The Simple Wikipedia page was created last month by an IP and has not been edited since. Again, I'm not familiar with Simple Wikipedia's notability guidelines or deletion processes, but I assume they're similar to here. I suggest you nominate it for deletion over there if you don't think the subject meets their guidelines. C F A 💬 17:55, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Article Review/Edit Request

Hi @CFA: I am a COI editor connected to the long-term biobank study UK Biobank and I have suggested some improvements to the article. My ideas include changing the layout, updating the page with recent discoveries and missing information, and removing any information which is irrelevant.

I have created both a draft of how I think the article should look in my sandbox, and a section by section explanation of each change as a request on the UK Biobank talk page. When you have the time, would it be possible to please receive your advice on the article in my sandbox, and maybe implement some of the changes which you feel are appropriate on the current existing page?

Thank you very much for marking the article as reviewed, I will work on the article based on your feedback. However, is it possible for you to change back the article name to 'List of BL dramas' instead of 'List of yaoi dramas'? As pointed out in Yaoi article, 'Yaoi' is more closely associated with Japanese gay animes and mangas, whereas 'BL' and 'Boys' love' is the common term for the television dramas and films featuring gay romance throughout Asia, especially outside Japan, as BL dramas also mainly come from Thailand, South Korea, and Taiwan. If the abbreviation 'BL' is considered too vague, I believe 'List of boys' love dramas' would be more acceptable. Please consider it. Best, — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 04:12, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

@Urchincrawler: It looks B-class to me, but I have no real experience determining article ratings. To a certain extent, it's completely subjective. You can see the B-class criteria on this page and request an independent assessment here, if you're interested. Rater says it is B-class so I'll just go with that, but in the end ratings don't really matter unless the article is a stub that needs to be categorized or has gone through the Good Article or Featured Article review process. Hi i've got a boyfriend --Laylacat12 (talk) 00:50, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello, CFA,

What happened here? Why are you moving valid redirects to your User space where they are tagged for deletion? This is not how things are done. If you want to move a draft or article to a page that has a redirect, then go to the page with the redirect, using Twinkle, tag it CSD>G6 Move and in the field, put the name of the draft or article that you want moved and an admin will take care of it.

The way you handled it causes us to lose all of the page history that comes from the original redirect and it ends up on a deleted page in your User space which is kind of ridiculous. If you are going to do page moves, you really have no reason to use your own User space. Let's work on keeping all of the page history with a particular page title together, whether it's the current page history or the deleted page history. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:59, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Same goes with User:CFA/moves/Haydon Mustard. Liz Read! Talk! 05:02, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
@Liz: Is that not what {{db-moved}} is for? I used to always tag redirects for {{db-afc-move}} and wait for an admin but sometimes I'd forget to come back and accept the draft. I didn't realize {{db-moved}} existed until I saw WT:AFC#User:Robert McClenon/Nassau County Bridge Authority on WT:AFC. C F A 💬 14:09, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
This is another reason to hate the round-robin move system, but so long as things are the way they are, wouldn't it be more in-line with usual page-moving practice to use subpage under Draft:Move/ instead? --Paul_012 (talk) 10:15, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
Maybe, but I'm not actually doing a round-robin swap here. I could, and nothing would even have to be deleted, but the WP:AFCH script doesn't support them (so I'd have to do a bunch of steps manually after the move). This is just a hack to avoid waiting for an admin to complete the G6, by moving it out of the way without leaving a redirect then deleting it later. I figured this wouldn't be an issue because {{db-moved}} seems to exist for this purpose, but I'll just go back to G6 tagging since someone objected. C F A 💬 14:49, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Royiswariii (11:36, 21 August 2024)

Hi! I'm planning to add a Personnel section to the Cherry on Top (Bini song) article. Is it necessary to include everyone involved in the production and all the team members who contributed to the song and music video? Quite a few people were involved in this project.

Edit: There's 4 teams in personel section. --Royiswariii (talk) 11:36, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

@Royiswariii: Hi, no, probably not. Information generally doesn't have to be included just because it's true. If all the person has received is a trivial mention in the song credits, then there's probably no reason to include their name in the article. Wikipedia, for the most part, is based on what secondary sources say, and due weight should be given proportional to the amount of coverage they have received. It's ultimately up to your discretion, but I would avoid including names unless their roles have been at least partially detailed in reliable, secondary sources. Why Muavia Azam move was considered technical and not contested since the latest move was performed by me and not the sock? Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 00:17, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

@SheriffIsInTown: Because undiscussed moves are eligible to be reverted by anyone, no matter who moved it originally. In this case, the requester wanted to revert to the stable title after two undiscussed moves (one of which was by a sock). You can open a requested move discussion if you want to propose another title, as your bold move was contested by someone else and now has to be discussed. Appealing draft you looked at!

Hello! I was hoping to discuss a draft you looked at recently that I'm working on. I believe strongly that Danial fits the notable criteria listed for chess players, specifically point 3 stating, "Has won a national or continental championship or women's championship." as he's won all 3 major scholastic national tournaments and the North American U-20 Championship.

The current reason for submission decline is around significant coverage. Below I've linked 4 concrete sources from 2 established newspapers that cover Danial. While I understand they come from newspapers in Santa Monica, I'd like to postulate that they fit within reliable, secondary sources, and are reasonable given there isn't a great deal of chess coverage in the major papers.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you! BenJohnson7 (talk) 03:24, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

@BenJohnson7: Hi, I'm not sure why you're asking me because when I declined your draft, there were only two database entries as sources (which are neither significant coverage nor independent). There have been two declines by other reviewers since. Regardless, WP:NCHESS is an essay, not a real notability guideline. It is simply stating what is likely to result in enough coverage to meet the basic notability guidelines for people. Your first three sources are all by the same local newspaper. Source 4 is another local, somewhat routine piece that isn't particularly useful for establishing notability. These articles do help, but aren't enough on their own. There should be at least some coverage outside of hyper-local newspapers where coverage is expected. Also, how do you know the subject? Your only edits are about the subject which often indicates you have some sort of conflict of interest. C F A 💬 03:47, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

The subject person has substantial global coverage at hand with extreme public interest, and more details of his background, as well as ventures, have been released in multiple reputable articles and sources. In other words, not just one event has defined the subject at hand. His page is not yet complete, but I believe it would be beneficial to the Wikipedia community to go forward with submission. Erroneous reversion

What is the reason for this edit? You merely restored punctuation errors that had been corrected by the edit that you reverted. See what WP:MOS says about hyphens and en-dashes. Michael Hardy (talk) 16:37, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

@Michael Hardy: Because they added a random "f" to "Riley-Day" as their only apparent change. They fixed it right at the same time that I reverted, which I didn't notice. It looked like an editing test to me. C F A 💬 16:44, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Draft : Michael Beil

Thank you for reviewing my draft article on Michael Beil (Draft:Michael Beil). I read that the submission was declined. Could you perhaps elaborate a bit on the two critiques? I have already, as you requested, removed the external links from the main text.

  1. I've been working very hard on supporting every statement in the article with reliable sources. Could you please point out some examples of statements or passages that are not adequately supported and/or sources that are not considered reliable?

2. I've be sifting through the article (and had several colleagues of mine read it) in search for peacock terms, promotional tone or language that is otherwise not neutral, and I can't find out what seems to be so problematic. I do admit that the text isn't bone dry, but I've read many Wikipedia articles on classical composers and their music that aren't. If you see any problematic wording, could you please point out one or two examples?

As you can see, I've been working on the article for a very long time and I would really like to see it published.

Thank you for your advice!

All the best RDiependaele (talk) 20:28, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

@RDiependaele: Hi, right now your draft reads like an essay. Personal interpretations and analysis do not belong in Wikipedia articles (e.g.: The realization of such compositions also requires complex production conditions, and very disciplined actions and skilled theatricality on the part of the musicians. Therefore, they are usually created in close collaboration with the performers., Recognizable quotations from existing works by other composers are inspiring building blocks for Beil because of the emotional charge or the references already attached to them. It is those connotations that the composer uses as material – a new meaning that can fade or appear subsequently by incorporating the quotations in new musical contexts., Those compositions, which were in line with the usual conventions of their genres, at the same time sharpened his interest in the visual dimensions of concert performance. In this sense, they helped create the ground for Beil's later artistic work, which focuses on the interaction between sound and image., etc. Some parts are also blatant advertising (e.g.: Beil makes his own scores, MAX patches and tapes available simply and free of charge through his website.). Wikipedia does not care about what the subject says about themself (ex: through their own website). The majority of the references I spot-checked do not verify the information provided either. Original research does not belong on Wikipedia. You should only summarize what reliable, secondary sources have said him.
Those were the blatant fails I declined your draft for. I also don't see how the subject meets either the notability guideline for musicians or the general notability guideline for people, which is something you'll have to prove in order for your draft to be accepted. C F A 💬 02:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi! Thank you for taking the time to clarify your standpoint, I think it is quite helpful. I've been working an a drastically shortened article in my sandbox. Could you take a moment to have a look at it? User:RDiependaele/sandbox
Regarding the notability question: I don't think this should be a problem.
  1. Michael Beil is a leading figure in contemporary classical music in Europe. His works are performed at (and were often commissioned by) some of the world's most reknowned festivals in this genre, such as the Internationalel Ferienkurse für neue Musik in Darmstadt and the SWR Donaueschinger Musiktage. Furthermore, Michael Beil has received the Deutscher Musikautor*innen-Preis from GEMA, which is not a small prize.
2. When it come to academic interest, my first footnote refers to the MGG, which is the online version of Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Together with The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the MGG is one of the most extensive and reliable musicological encyclopedia. When it comes to living composers (or musicians, or musicologists, for that matter) they only include people with an international relevance and solid oeuvre. 'Een kleine muziekgeschiedenis van hier en nu' (ed. Mark Delaere) is written by a team of academic musicologists from Belgium and The Netherlands and is e.g. used as a textbook for musicology students at the universities of Leuven and Amsterdam. The French institution IRCAM keeps a page about Michael Beil as wel: https://brahms.ircam.fr/en/michael-beil.
3. For reference, I looked up a few composers that, in my view, have a somewhat similar profile, such as Enno Poppe James Saunders (composer) Thierry Escaich Jennifer Walshe Luc Brewaeys Fausto Romitelli Johannes Kreidler Alexander Schubert Simon Steen-Andersen
I hope this information is sufficient. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
Best & thanks RDiependaele (talk) 20:32, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Problem for an AFD

Hello, I'm trying to nominate an article for an AFD but I can't do it, it's weird and I don't understand anything, you can look at my contribution log to see what I did about it, and don't hesitate to explain it to me so that I can understand. Thanks SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 00:04, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

@SparklingBlueMoon: Hi, yeah, it's because there's a bunch of steps that have to be done when nominating an article for deletion manually. You can follow the steps at WP:AFDHOWTO, but I'd recommend installing Twinkle (an option in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets) which allows you to do it semi-automatically (click the "TW" dropdown on the article you wish to nominate and then click "XfD" once installed). Wcquidditch has sorted it out for you this time. Happy editing, C F A 💬 17:27, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Straight-line mechanism

Compound eccentric mechanisms with elliptical motion: not mentioned in source Hi, You have criticised a section of the article but left most of it intact. What is the actual problem? You don't like MultiFAZE? It is not a trademark, just a convenient acronym for an unwieldy descriptive name. It can be found in the source that is given. The source, a patent, is reliable evidence of the existence of the invention as an idea, and the Stiller-Smith engine is reliable evidence of the invention in a physical machine. That's two sources. @D7bib: Hi, I don't do re-reviews, but I can tell you that there are still quite a few problems with the draft. Sentences like His efforts were crucial in maintaining the continuity of education for Syrian children affected by the war. and Under his leadership, the coalition made significant strides in gaining international recognition and support. are purely promotional and not appropriate for an encyclopedia. They sound AI-generated to me. The majority of the article is still uncited. Where did that information come from? Also, why do you have quotation marks around paragraphs? "This request has succeeded" at redirects

Hello! Just a simple question - I notice you're able to "succeed" requests at AfC/redirects (with a dark green box), but I have found no mention of what that means beyond "accepted" (light green box). Is there a difference? Cheers. LR.127 (talk) 19:19, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

@LR.127: Hi, it's an option under "Close" if you're using User:Eejit43/scripts/afcrc-helper. I use it whenever I end up creating the redirect manually (e.g. if there's a better target than what was suggested) because using "Accept" attempts to create the redirect automatically. Per Talk:British support for Israel in the Israel–Hamas war#Requested move 8 July 2024 there was no consensus for a similar move back in July (although that move also removed "support for Israel" in addition to changing "British" to "United Kingdom"), so I don't think the request on WP:RM/TR was uncontroversial. Also, in general, anything covered under WP:ARBIPA is rarely uncontroversial. That said, I wouldn't revert the move at this point unless someone actually complains that they prefer "British". --Ahecht (TALK

I did see that, but the move was done by a sock (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/InPursuitOfAMorePerfectUnion) so it is was technically eligible to be reverted with WP:BANREVERT. Article correction

you refused the changes to the arcticle Address concerning the events in Ukraine Special:Contributions/83.64.191.18 saying there is no proof. Ianswered you with the proof. The point that Putin was making is that Lenin /Stalin made a mistake by allowing secession from Russia. The decret i linked to is exactly proofing that fact. That Lenin later changed his oppinion is true but it was after. So Putins remarks are historically correct. So Plokhys statment is proofen wrong. Bernd316 (talk) 22:10, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Mass revert

Hi, CFA. While WP:BANREVERT does allow editors to revert any edits made in violation of a ban, I'm concerned that your mass revert of ThingsCanOnlyGetWetter, a user who had over 11,000 edits, is removing a lot of constructive edits without any clear benefit to the encyclopedia. For instance, you've just reverted quite a few valid WP:SDNONE edits. While reverting every ban-evading edit is a nice idea in theory, for an editor with this many edits, it's often impossible to do without creating more work for other editors. Could you please reconsider? -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 23:25, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Just to be clear, I have no objection to reverting larger, substantive edits of theirs, especially given the copyright concern. This is specifically about small gnomish edits that, if reverted, someone else will just have to re-make later on. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe) 23:28, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
You're free to revert and take responsibility for any edits you want. This user has a history of copyright violations and making mass disruptive edits, so I opted to revert most of them. C F A 💬 23:28, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Javier LLorca Draft Article

Hello, my name is Andrew Johnston. You recently declined an article I am trying to publish on a well-known Spanish scientist, Prof. Javier LLorca (Draft:Javier Llorca). Would you be able to give me any additional advice on how I could improve the draft in order to make it appropriate for publication? AndrewJohnston1543 (talk) 14:00, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

@AndrewJohnston1543: Your draft is written in a promotional manner. In receiving the award, Prof. LLorca was noted “for the pioneering nature and leadership of his research in the field of Computational Materials Engineering.” His contribution to the development of novel multi-scale modeling strategies, which have had a tremendous impact on various industrial sectors, was also highlighted. is completely unnecessary. Please see WP:PEACOCK. You also don't need to list everything he's ever done – Wikipedia articles are not CVs (e.g. the "Committees and Professional Activities" section). Lots of claims lack citations too, in both the "Honours and Awards" and the "Committees and Professional Activities" sections. Please only list notable awards and positions covered in secondary sources. You'll need to remove the external links from the article body. Also, you uploaded the pictures in the draft as your "own work": If they are your own work, then you evidently have a connection with the subject that you have to disclose. If they aren't your own work, then they are blatant copyright violations that will need to be deleted. C F A 💬 16:10, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Do you plan to move the many pages like Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron – Rescue list/Archive8 back to Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron/Rescue list/Archive8 where they belong, or else at the very least delete them? Yeah, those redirects were left over from the last move when Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron – Rescue list was moved to Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron/Rescue list. Safe to say I don't think this page will be moved again any time soon... C F A 💬 17:43, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
Hello, CFA,
Because you moved a lot of pages and chose not to leave redirects behind, these page moves created a lot of broken redirects which were subsequently deleted as CSD G8s. If you or editors at the Article Rescue Squandron want to recreate some of these redirects, please make sure they are pointed to the right target page. But this is why we advise page movers to leave redirects behind when they move pages. I'm not sure why so many page movers choose not to as it would have avoided us having 70+ broken redirect pages. Liz Read! Talk! 23:43, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
How did redirects like Wikipedia:ARS/RL/Archive 19 even happen? I didn't move anything related to Wikipedia:ARS/RL. I round-robin-swapped Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron – Rescue list and Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron/Rescue list to revert the previous move. But then I made the same Wikipedia:Wikipedia mistake that was also made the first time they were moved. So I moved Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron – Rescue list over Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron — Rescue list. The extra redirects were suppressed. Somehow Wikipedia:ARS/RL was created? This whole thing is very confusing. C F A 💬 03:03, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @CFA:! I'm a little confused about my work on Dilaw and Namumula by Maki. Question from Cherukara JM (10:21, 30 August 2024)

Hello Prof C. P. Mathew is an uncle of mine. There is no picture in the article about him. I wanted to add a picture copied from our family history book. How to add it to his article? --Cherukara JM (talk) 10:21, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

@Cherukara JM: Welcome to Wikipedia! I assume you're referring to C. P. Mathew. The answer is a bit more complicated than you might've expected because of copyright. Do you know who took the picture and when it was taken? C F A 💬 15:04, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
The book was published in 1982. I is family history of myself and Prof. C. Mathew. There are no rights applicable after 40 years as I understand.
Name of the book: Pakalomattam Thazhamon Kudumba Charithram (Pakalomattam Thazhamon Family History
published 25th May 1982
Published by The Executive Committee

It's a bit more complicated than that. The photograph itself generally needs to be in the public domain in both India and the United States in order to be hosted on Wikipedia. Since he died in 1970, we know the photograph was taken before then. But exactly when it was taken does matter in this context. If it was taken before 1 January 1964, then it is likely in the public domain in India (assuming it was not published anywhere until 1982, otherwise it has to have been taken before 1958). For it to qualify for public domain in the United States, it generally will have had to be taken before 1946 and in some cases 1941 (see c:COM:URAA). Your other option would be to upload it as a fair-use image, assuming you can prove there are no free (public domain) images that exist. C F A 💬 17:43, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
I don't know about when this photograph is taken The author of the book is no more. The source also is not known. if you want a right transfer, I shall try for it 2405:201:F01D:19:31F8:7BF8:FD99:591C (talk) 03:55, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
You could try emailing permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, but I won't be able to do anything. C F A 💬 12:03, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Second look at Small States

In regards to redirecting small state, to small power:
I am not sure that Small States in its current use and small power are really the same thing. For example, here is article [11] on the definition of microstates and small states. It uses the word small power only three times, and I feel that they are two separate concepts but not used the same way in language. For example, Games of the Small States of Europe and Forum of Small States, is not really talking about political concepts its more or less a size bucket. @Montekarloh: Feel free to restore it if you think so. I won't do anything further. I only saw it because the disambiguation page was tagged as unreviewed. C F A 💬 12:06, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi CFA, thank you for explaining. I will try to bring it back but I will leave the disambiguation page for now, and just leave a link on the page. Montekarloh (talk) 12:33, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
There is a newly created account that has reverted the change without an explanation. I am not sure how to proceed now. Montekarloh (talk) 14:20, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Restored your revision. Not sure what's going on but they can take it to AfD as a contested blank-and-redirect instead of edit warring. C F A 💬 14:25, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Lambeth page move

Thanks for putting the Lambeth page back. Looks like the talk page was moved too. Could you put that back. I think it is at Talk:Lambeth, UK and needs to go back to Talk:Lambeth. Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 22:00, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

 Done. C F A 💬 22:16, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
