Beatles News The ongoing divorce proceedings between Paul McCartney and the former Heather Mills continues to occupy the attention of the media - Heather Mills reportedly receiving unspecified death threats. The British Post Office have released a series of stamps depicting various Beatles album covers. Project News The Paul McCartney article is being primped and primed for submission as a Featured Article candidate. The good folk who have been working on the above article have turned their attention to the John Lennon page. Everyone is, of course, invited to contribute. 1 new article (by keithmall) has been listed in the Project Log since 1 December 2006, being The Beatles Book, a monthly magazine. The hottest Project page this month has been the Macca (Paul for those not in the know!) article, again. Other Project news... Please let the editors know if anything is happening, or just contribute it to the next newsletter. Member News New members to the project since the last issue include Beggarsbanquet, Keithmall, Sturgeonman, and McTavidge Sir Sean de Garde appears to have developed multiple personalities.	Issue of the Month The question of capitalising of the letter "t" in The of The Beatles has been raised again. Beatles News George Harrison's handwritten lyrics to the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps have fetched $300,000 (£152,552) in a Scottsdale (Arizona, United States) memorabilia auction (15 January). It contained lines omitted from the final version of the song. Specifically : I look from the wings at the play you are staging While my guitar gently weeps As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging Still my guitar gently weeps On the reverse of the page appears the lyrics to Hey Jude in the hand of Mal Evans. Project News The Project lead article (The Beatles, for those not paying attention) has had its Good Article status reviewed, and the consensus was 'keep'. The efforts of User:Andreasegde in supplying the requested citations, and other editors in helping with general editing, and the strength of arguments for retaining the grade sufficiently impressed the reviewers. After a great deal of work Paul McCartney was promoted as a Featured Article candidate. Unfortunately it failed to succeed. Among other comments, including the correct length of dash (or hyphen), from reviewers was that the article was too long and also that it needed further information included in some of the sections(!?) The promotor, and driving force behind the insertion of a great many references, citations and facts (and the remover of unwanted text, and splitter of information into daughter articles), Andreasegde vigorously argued the case for promotion but was unsuccessful. Mimi Smith was successfully nominated for WP:Good article status. The major editor to whom accolades should be directed is... Andreasegde. Two new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 January: The Beatles' Influence on Recording Music by Apepper and Wings 1973 UK Tour by Danthemankhan. Eruption257 has adopted the A Spaniard in the Works article. The hottest Project page this month was possibly, despite the Article Status related issues regarding both The Beatles and Paul McCartney mentioned above, the third attempt to delete The Beatles trivia in less than a year. As was the case for the second attempt at AfD the result, after an energetic discourse, was keep but with a suggestion that the article be retitled to reduce the incidence of deletion requests. Editors are invited to discuss possible new titles, and/or the need for same, at Talk:The Beatles trivia. Other Project news - Lar did a bit of a purge of the subscription list during last month's newsletter delivery. Some folks were kept (and are at the active list), some who clearly are not active on wikipedia at all were removed with a "you've been removed" message left (and are at the inactive list), and some folks who were less active but not as clearly completely inactive were given a "this may be your last newsletter" message (and are at the possibly inactive list). A more nuanced subscription list is now here (in several subpages as outlined above), and anyone who wants to tweak their status (moving one's self back is a clear cut sign that we should deliver the newsletter to you!) should feel free. Please respect the rather spartan formatting though, this list is used by WP:AWB currently, and may be used by other automation in future.	Issue of the Month Hottest issue or concern for this month is the perennial matter of Project articles losing their Good or Featured Article status. The main Project page now includes a status board that gives the current ratings of some of the more important articles. Let's make sure the core articles (The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr) reach or retain Good Article status, if not Featured Article. If you are aware of another major article whose status is at risk, add it to the board. Issue of last Month Since there has been no response in the matter of the use of lowercase for the initial letter of the when applied with Beatles from the opponents, it is likely that the case for using lowercase only will be adopted as Project policy by default. Beatles News On Friday 30th March, a deranged fan was held after attempting to force his way into Paul McCartney's mansion. See here for more details. Apple Corps continues to make news, after the recent settlement with Apple Computer over the use of the Apple trademark. On April 10th, the company announced that long-time chief executive Neil Aspinall had stepped down and had been replaced by American Jeff Jones. It was also announced that another long term dispute, this time with EMI over royalties, had been amicably settled prior to Aspinall's departure.[1][2] Project News The article "Jeff Jones (music industry executive)" suddenly becomes of top importance in the Apple sphere of Beatledom. User:Kingboyk has created a stub on the man, but the article needs urgent beefing up (including basic biographical data such as date and place of birth) and, if possible, a photograph of the new Apple chief executive. Mimi Smith promises to have the last word over John yet again; her article is currently a Featured Article Candidate. Brian Epstein is a current GA candidate. See the Status board for more article news. 2 new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 March: Tony Barrow and Jeff Jones (music industry executive). With the debate over "the Beatles" vs "The Beatles" continuing to cause ill feeling and a number of resignations from the project from advocates on both sides, Kingboyk attempted to diffuse the situation by blanking the Project Policy page and tagging it as {{historical}}. Although this unilateral action hasn't been reverted as of the time of writing, the reaction was mixed, with two members rejoining the project and others stating their disagreement. With the issue still not resolved, the page was sent to Miscellany for Deletion, for the wider community (and WikiProject The Beatles members) to consider the issue. Member News The membership list has been trimmed, with inactive members listed seperately to help gauge the status of the project. Hi... quick reply. Brilliant you want to improve the page. Citing non-online information is fine ... after all we had numerous people from Socrates to Lennon & Luthor King who never contributed on-line information. I will have a re-look at the school. It does look interesting and I was thinking of the school last week when I spotted/heard some US students looking at a Roman temple in France last week. Do perservere... International Academy

Please do not remove references. External references are essential to a decent article, and that is one of the more important external references to this school. It can be stated as "A report in 2004" or something if you really think it's out-of-date, but if you read it carefully, it's reporting *a different statistic* than the IA website.

I really don't see what the problem is. The structure and referencing in the article is largely due to a huge rewrite I did a year ago. Prior to that it had zero referencing and was full of vandalism and other nonsense. I've supported your edits in the past. So what gives? Gimmetrow 02:01, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry. But everytime you add those references and re-direct them to a previous reference, it works for a few minutes and then, upon refresh, it says Cite error 8; No text given. That's why I keep deleting the references.

In addition, with regard to the statistic, it's true that it is accurate for the time, and that the article works for other parts of the website. However, if it is referred to as the first statistic for students obtaining IB degrees, people assume that it is the correct one. I'm a student at the school at about 5 out of each recent (as in, 2006 and 2007) graduating class (which are about 150 students) does not obtain the diploma, so that is closer to the later statistic. While I agree school websites might not be the most accurate places for giving a fair and balanced view of the school, I think the school website is more accurate. However, I support keeping the stat on there if the site makes it clear it was from 2004. Beggarsbanquet (talk) 02:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

When you have a named ref, the text has to exist once. If you delete the "definition" then you get the error 8 stuff. The referenced paper is, I think, talking about a different statistic. It says that 88% of those *who enroll* go on to earn an IB degree. Not a percent of those who make it to senior year, but a percent of those who start as first-years. Beatles News A nine-minute interview with Paul McCartney and John Lennon has surfaced that had been lost since 30 April 1964, after they returned from their first American tour. Paul Weller played an unexpected cover of The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" during a gig being staged as part of London's iTunes Festival. "Beatles Day – Imagine The Concert" will be a part of this year’s Summer Pops Festival. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has revealed his favourite Beatles song - "All My Loving" - because he played it on the piano as a young upstart. McCartney and Starr will be among the stars to honour Sir George Martin at USC Representatives for The Beatles, Activision Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI), and MTV Games are in talks about developing a Beatles-themed video game versions of Guitar Hero (series) and Rock Band (video game). McCartney talked about his last moments with Harrison, just days before his death. Rare photos of The Beatles are to go on display in Little Chalfont next week. Yoko Ono plans to appeal a failed lawsuit against a filmmaker who used a piece of footage from the Imagine (film) without permission. US District Judge Sidney Stein found in favour of the filmmakers based on Fair use. (Interesting for Wikipedia editors...) Ringo Starr's new album, Liverpool 8, only sold 7,000 copies in its first week of release. Project News As you may have seen, the talk page banner changed a bit. It has a couple of bugs (most notably the categorisation problems), but the {{WPBannerMeta}} standardisation was long overdue. Thank you to Dendodge for sorting it. The newsletter's back after a very positive reaction, and thanks are again due to Dendodge. Article adoptions: Heather Mills will be a hot topic next month, as the truth will be referenced. The hottest Project page this month has been The Quarrymen (now a GA). It reveals the most accurate history of their early days, because so many other web pages tell a completely untrue story (one web page said they lost a Carroll Levis competition to a woman who played the spoons :) Other Project news The project now has 5 FA articles, and 33 GA articles. George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Klaus Voormann are still B-class articles, as is Yoko Ono (will she ever get a GA rating?) Member News New members to the project (since the last issue, which was a long time ago) include a lot of names, which can be found here.... Project member news:	Issue of the Month Apart from the usual vandals, there is an ongoing problem with Wikipedia editors deleting free and fair-use photos because they don't think they are of any value to articles, even though this sometimes leaves articles with no photos at all. These editors do not leave notes on talk pages, so if you see that a photo has vanished, check the talk page and the history log. From the Editors It's been a while, but the newsletter's back! After a short discussion on the project talk page, seemingly unanimous consensus to bring it back was reached. This issue, and subsequent ones, will probably be shorter - as we kept running out of things to say before! There's a lot to say this month, purely due to the long absence of a newsletter, but we'll keep it as brief as possible. Beatles News Meat The Beatles – and other photos. Rare and iconic images of The Beatles will be put on show in Wales. The Smithereens to release 'B-Sides The Beatles' Sir George Martin's advice to musicians McCartney Joined Billy Joel at Shea Stadium. Gallagher admits that Oasis had upset Abbey Road bosses by "blasting out Beatles records at four in the morning" and "doing loads of drugs" there. Matt Greenhalgh who wrote Control (2007 film), the biopic of life of Ian Curtis, is to put Lennon's early life on the big screen. The drumskin featured on the 1967 album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was sold for £541,250 ($1.07 million). On a current tour, Neil Young is encoring with a Crazy Horse-ian arrangement of the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life". Yoko Ono loses court case of Lennon song in anti-evolution movie - Premise Media was likely to succeed on its fair use defence. Paul McCartney recently wrote a song declaring his past love for Heather Mills. George Martin holds the Guinness World Record for most successful producer ever. Beatles first contract up for sale. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

On with the Show

I don't know you and you don't know me. I picked your user name from the list on page Wikipedia talk: Wikiprojekt The Rolling Stones. I regurlarly write on Swedish Wikipedia and I have a question that I would be very thankful if I could get an answer to. Just before the intro of the song On with the Show there's a sound of a man making some kind of an announcement. In the middle of it, it sounds like: "In Falköping they remember themselves". I've been searching thru the net here and there and everywhere and I can find the lyrics of the song, but not the "announcement" (that spoken words). Over and over again I've tried to hear what the man says, but he speaks too fast and English is not my mother tongue. Can you help me? What does the man say? Queering Wikipedia 2021 User Group Working Days: May 14–16

The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. As a member of WikiProject LGBT studies, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.

We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.
