Message from WikiProject Punk music

[edit]

Hello!

You may be interested to know that WikiProject Punk music has recently undergone a major revitalization. Please visit the project page to see our new look and check out some of our helpful new features, such as the Assessment Department and the Collaboration of the week. There are also a number of tasks on our Things to do page that you may be interested in helping with.

We are currently holding a roll call to help gauge how many active project members we have. Please visit the project's talk page and add your signature to the roll sheet to express your continued interest in the project. Also, if you have not already done so, please take a minute to add your name to the Participants page along with a brief summary of your punk-related interests, so that other project members will be better able to collaborate with you. If you do not add your signature to the roll sheet by November 30, 2008 your name will be moved to our list of inactive members. We may also take the liberty of removing the project userbox from your userpage if it appears there, to prevent you from automatically appearing in Category:WikiProject Punk music members. Of course you are free to rejoin the project and re-add the userbox at any time if you would like to become active in the project again.

Thank you and we hope you will continue to support WikiProject Punk music!

Rock music WikiProject

[edit]

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 21:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non free images

[edit]

Regarding this edit, non free images are explicitly not to be used outside of the article space. If you know of any other non free images outside of article space, please remove them. Also, you may want to consider archiving this talk page, it is getting a little long. Message posted at the top of the page due to pictoral request. J Milburn (talk) 00:05, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can't change them a little then upload them as your own, as that counts as a deriative work, and so copyright is still owned by the band. In any case, that would be useless for use in the article. It is generally reccomended that you archive talk pages so they are accessible to people with old-school browsers and/or slow connections, but it's your choice. J Milburn (talk) 16:43, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to Middle Ages

[edit]

I just changed the spelling back to "favour" for consistency with the spelling in the rest of the article: it can look a bit odd if it's spelt dfferent ways in different places. Details here. Best. --Old Moonraker 06:14, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joke message bar (RE)

[edit]

I am not really certain where ...adam... came up with that one, I have seen it on hundredsthousands of user pages, they simply link within the wiki. I have never seen policy about that, and, the sources he points to are no longer existent as true policy. In fact, he himself violated the "Don't be a Dick" rule on the very guideline page, if anything. I actually don't mind the trick myself, and I am going to do something else similar to that on my userpage.

Non-free album cover

[edit]

Image:00-va-traxamillion presents-the slap addict-2006-cr.jpg is a non-free album cover and as such, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law only when used to illustrate the audio recording in question. The Traxamillion article is about the person, not the audio recording in question, The Slapp Addict. There is no rationale given on the image describing why use on Traxamillion should be allowed. See Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline for help on writing one. Hope this helps. --Geniac 12:46, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature and subpages

[edit]

I noticed a post of yours on the Administrator's incident board; what specifically drew my attention was your signature. It's a fairly lengthy amount of code, and takes up approximately four lines in the editing box, making it time-consuming to edit around. Signature guidelines suggest that signatures be kept short "both in display and markup". Could you please reduce the length of your signature code, to make editing easier for other users, as well as to keep it in line with accepted guidelines? Thank you.

Additionally, I want to warn you that quoting entire songs (as you've done at User:Bagel7/Favorite_Quotes is considered a copyright violation, and is specifically not allowed on Wikipedia. Please remove the lyrics, or the page may be liable for deletion as a violation of copyright policy. ♠PMC07:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There isn't a specific character count I can point you to. We don't work that way. I would suggest that mine is probably a good guideline, give or take a few characters. I can completely understand your desire to customize, but you do have to consider your fellow editors as well. As for your lyric page, no, striking out a single line does not exempt you from policy. It's not a concern that we'll get sued, it's that we are an encyclopedia which aims to be free from copyrighted material. Song lyrics are copyrighted material, and we cannot have non-free material on Wikipedia, especially for non-encyclopedic purposes such as a quotes page. Please remove the violating content. ♠PMC07:47, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, much better. It's not so much the length of it as it displays when you save the page, but the length of it when you edit the page. Take a look at your old signature as it appears on my talk page - it spans four lines when you're looking at the code in order to edit. That was the problem. It's much less obtrusive now, thank you. In regards to the songs: you can quote about two lines before it starts becoming an issue. Remember, we are a free content encyclopedia, which means no copyrighted content. Either trim the songs, please, or I'm going to trim them for you. ♠PMC08:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Short answer: no, there is no place on Wikipedia you can keep them. Long answer: no, absolutely not, for every reason I outlined to you above and will reiterate here: Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia. Everything on the site must obey the policy of free content above all other things. User pages, Talk pages, subpages...nothing is an exception. Simply put, we cannot host any content that has a copyright on it, at all. What it all boils down to is simple: you cannot keep those lyrics on Wikipedia's servers. One last time, please remove them.
Also, in regards to the comment that they are "your" quote pages - this is incorrect. No one "owns" any pages on Wikipedia (see "owning" pages for details). Common courtesy dictates that editors don't usually edit the User page or User subpages of others, but we are not prohibited from doing so, especially in the case of overt copyright violations. ♠PMC08:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They don't belong to you, they belong to whoever owns the copyright for them, and I'm willing to bet that it isn't you. ♠PMC08:52, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Too tired to get eloquent about this: you don't own the quote page, you don't own the quotes, and you don't own the quotes in the context of the quote page. That would be ownership, and you don't own anything on Wikipedia. ♠PMC09:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. This is pointless. Fatigue has made me long-winded and somewhat argumentative; my apologies. Thank you for your diligence in removing the lyrics and trimming your signature. Much appreciated. Have a good night, and happy editing. ♠PMC09:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joke "New Message" banner

[edit]

Hi there - just to let you know that I've removed the banner from the top of your userpage in line with this, specifically that you can't imitate the user interface or link off wikipedia. Thanks ...adam... (talkcontributions) 21:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, and thanks for replying. Maybe [one] will clear the policy up. The problem is that the "you have a new message" box is an integral part of the user interface, as it is generated by wikipedia - much like the links to the left and above the content are.The fact that you linked off wiki isn't the problem in general, it is that you linked off wiki in a UI spoof (so it looks like wikipedia is directing you there) and you hid the fact that they are external by using the plainlinks class (so people don't know that they're being taken off site). Hope this clears it up as to why you shouldn't put the box back - any further questions, feel free to ask ...adam... (talkcontributions) 12:50, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope - you can't imitate the UI at all, including the message box. It was a funny april fools joke (I had one from midnighe until midday) - but it's getting old don't you think. But that's just my opinion - the policy still states that you can't spoof any part of the UI. Despite that, you aren't allowed non-encyclopedic content on your userpage anyway. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not somewhere to collect kevan brains (again - I have a kevan brain counter, I have nothing against the idea - but I realise that Wikipedia is not the place for it). Hope that clears it up, and that you don't think I'm being mean about all this. Hope that helps, any more questions - feel free to ask. Thanks, ...adam... And now I can say this:

- Bagel7 10:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

About a month and a half ago, I asked you a series of questions that you very rudely ignored. I find that highly inappropriate. Would you please review your talk page, locate my questions, and answer them hastily? It's not becoming of a Wikipedian to blatantly ignore a request like this. I don't think acting like an imbecile, and making personal attacks constitutes putting someone in their place. Wikiproject Paranormal Collaboration

[edit]

Hi, I'm leaving you this message because I noticed you are interested in Wikipedia:Wikiproject Paranormal. We're currently starting a new project which we need the help of our members in, the WikiProject Paranormal Collaboration of the Month. This is an initiative where we can identify articles that need work (especially high-traffic pages), and get the whole project involved with their improvement. Currently, we are in the process of voting for our first collaboration. We'd appreciate it if you'd stop by, vote, and add any articles you may think may be appropriate for the project. Also, you may wish to add the Collaboration page to your watchlist to observe future collaborations. If you'd like, we've also created a category to collect articles covered by our project as a reference, if it helps. So, thank you for your interest, and happy editing! --InShaneee 16:13, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just Checking Up

[edit]

I realized I've been out of touch from Wikipedia for a while so I'm just trying to catch up. The Warped Tour over the summer was pretty awesome. I was up front and three feet away from Tim (Rise Against) he came and stood on the railing they had holding everyone back. He had two security guards holding him up on there too. It was pretty intense. So all in all, just checkin up and letting you know I'll be on more often (school started and I'll probably be slacking off and coming here instead of working on projects and such). By the way how was the Red Hot Chili Peppers Thing? Papa_smurPH 13:52, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like to check up on it occasionally, but yeah I do the exact same thing with school, where I slack off on wikipedia. The Chili Peppers were awesome, and even though I could tell they were kinda tired (i saw their 2nd show near the place i live), they still put lots of energy into the show. the mars volta, who opened for them, were also good, but they werent gettin any love from the audience. everyone was there to see the chili peppers. i also saw the 'prophets and new found glory at another concert, although i only got to see the 'prophets do one song. i have to say, i really like the new rise against song ready to fall. - Bagel7 03:00, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's pretty cool about the 'prophets concert. I wish they would have been on the Warped tour, I could have had an even greater time. Was New Found Glory cool too? But yes Ready to Fall is indeed a very enjoyable song, I have it on my phone (Vcast) but for some reason not on my iPod. *Shrugs* I'll get it eventually. Papa_smurPH 14:07, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, they were good for me knowing like 4 of their songs. I liked their energy, and some people in crowd were really pumped for them. w/e, it's cool. - Bagel7 03:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar issue

[edit]

I noticed that you listed yourself as a grammar nazi. I actually have a grammar issue that I thought you might be willing to help with. It is regarding whether or not dances (like waltz, tango, swing, ballet, etc.) should be capitalized. There is currently a discussion about it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dance and Talk:Lindy Hop. We would certainly appreciate your input. Thanks! —Cswrye 14:05, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder

[edit]

You asked me a question, to which I responded and asked a series of follow-up questions. Why have you not responded to any of them? Evan Reyes 08:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because

[edit]

Small words are not capitalized in artist, album, or song titles. I did this before I knew it was against policy to edit other users' pages, so if you'd like, you can change it back. Evan Reyes 20:02, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question though, why would you name some bands correctly (Bowling for Soup, Dead or Alive, Death Cab for Cutie, Kings of Leon, Puddle of Mudd), but clearly list the incorrect name for P!ATD? Seems strange to me. Evan Reyes 22:22, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have something else that goes along with this. I'm interested in helping out with lyricwiki, however I noticed that many of the artists have incorrect capitalization. Is there any system in place to fix that? i.e. Harry and the Potters is not Harry And The Potters, etc. Evan Reyes 02:19, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Thanks, but no thanks

[edit]

Thank you for disambiguating in this edit, but I didn't want it for my userpage. I'd rather just leave them ambiguated (is that a word?) Anyway, - Bagel7 19:54, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Feel free to change it back, if you like. It's funny, I thought about avoiding userpages altogether, but a lot like yours seem so clearly marked, I thought it'd be lazy not to get to everything. Sorry if it caused any problems. ACS (Wikipedian); Talk to the Ace. See what I've edited. 20:27, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Few Things

[edit]

Well for one according to a certain poster below me your birthday was a while ago (I checked your userbox too) so happy extremely late birthday. Mine was actually 3 days before your so thats cool . . . sorta? But know what I really came here for. One: I finally got the new prophets album and it is indeed amazing, and two: I'm going to the Warped Tour in Virginia Beach next Wednesday and I felt the need to gloat to someone so your'e one of my choices. You should feel appreciated. Think thats's about it Papa_smurPH 03:06, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, then even happy even more extremely late birthday. Wow, I'm getting confused. Anyway, yes I have been enjoying the prophets album, and thats awesome that you're gonna see that tour. I was thinking about it, but there are lots of bands that are questionable. So, instead, I decided to go to the Red Hot Chili Peppers contest at the end of August. So, there's my gloat I guess. - Bagel7 17:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy [late] birthday

[edit]

Hey...happy [late] birthday! Hope it was a great one...(and you really want new conversations at the top of the page?? hmm...okay)--ViolinGirl 00:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you redirect the Wall Walking article into the parkour article?

Because the article specifically compared it to that. It was that, or speedy-delete it -- which I notice had been done already. --Calton | Talk 05:18, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That logic doesn't follow very well. If I compare karate to martial arts, like "Karate is a form of martial arts" or "Karate is related to martial arts" does that mean we should incorporate the huge karate article into the martial arts one? Of course not. - Bagel7 14:43, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, speedy delete it is. --Calton | Talk 23:31, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, hey, hey, remember WP:CIVIL? Dont just delete it, please allow it to remain a separate article. My argument was for restoring the article as an independent entity. It has enough information on its own to be an article. Please restore it. - Bagel7 14:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, hey, hey, read the top of my talk page. First and second points, if you need a hint. Also the relationship of WP:CIVIL to the viability of an article is what, exactly? --Calton | Talk 08:59, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno, it just seemed like you said "speedy delete it is" and didn't want to hear my side of things anymore. I was trying to keep this conversation civil and intelligent. By the way, can I copy that list? I actually like it. It's funny. - Bagel7 22:41, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Album

[edit]

Are you getting the new prophets album? (I know its not the only band you like but not many other people around here like lostprophets so I had to ask somebody.) Oh and that Lyricwiki looks pretty cool, anyway I could help? - Papa_smurPH (please sign your name, not that i want to be anal about these things)

Hell yes, I'm getting the new album. Unfortunately, right now, I'm at an academic camp at Stanford so I can't get it until I get out of here which will be 2 weeks from this Friday. When I get home, I'll get it for sure. About Lyricwiki, I kind of took this into my own hands, so it's not official or anything, but just try to add and edit lyrics. Right now, its horrible. Finally, thanks for leaving a new message at the top. You're like the first person to do that. - Bagel7 15:01, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem about the message at the top thing. The huge icon at the top of your page is kind of hard to miss. Yeah I'm pretty psyched about the new album but I'm broke and I want to get the new Rise Against album out tomarrow to so i gotta earn some cash first. And a happy 4th of July to you! Papa_smurPH 02:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I hope you also have a happy 4th. So far, a few people have ignored the top icon, but maybe now people will start payin attention. I'm into Rise Against, but I'm not sure whether I want the new album. I'll have to listen to it on iTunes or something before I'm sure. Oh, and my mom actually got me the album, because she knew I've wanted it for a while, so as soon as I get back I can listen to it. - Bagel7 14:35, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PYRAMA deleted

[edit]

The people, places, or things you have written about in the article PYRAMA may not be sufficiently well-known to merit articles of their own, and I have therefore deleted it in accordance with Wikipedia's speedy deletion policy. The Wikipedia community welcomes newcomers, and encourages them to become Wikipedians. On Wikipedia, all users are entitled to a user page in which they can describe themselves, and this article's content may be incorporated into that page. However, to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia proper, a subject must be notable. We encourage you to write or improve articles on notable subjects. Please read over Wikipedia's deletion policy and speedy deletion policy, and contact me if you feel that PYRAMA should not have been deleted; however, please do not recreate the article without first contacting me or seeking a deletion review. If you would like for me to restore its content and move it into your userspace, please contact me, and I will do so gladly. Thanks for your understanding. AmiDaniel (talk) 09:44, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will gladly restore this article to your userspace, i.e. at User:Bagel7/PYRAMA; however, I will not restore it to the main article namespace as the topic is simply not notable enough to warrant inclusion in the encyclopedia proper. I'm sorry that you feel your work went wasted, but Wikipedia maintains standards of notability for a reason. If you restore it again, the page will protected from recreation. If you would like for me to userfy it, however, I will do so gladly. AmiDaniel (talk) 01:53, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Do you want the history to go with it, or can I just copy and paste? AmiDaniel (talk) 01:22, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can you just take my original page and leave it like that please? Thanks. - Bagel7 01:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the page. It is now located at User:Bagel7/PYRAMA, a subpage of yours. Happy editing! Prodego talk 01:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gahh, edit conflict again. I forgot we can't do copy and paste userfication, but in any case I have now userfied it with history to User:Bagel7/PYRAMA. Feel free to contact me if you need any more help. AmiDaniel (talk) 01:34, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am just a Wikipedia administrator who happened to see your message to AmiDaniel. Prodego talk 01:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How did you know so much about Pyrama??? - Bagel7 01:39, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well being administrators we can see deleted pages. So we put the content you wrote on that page. Prodego talk 01:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But how did you know about George and Pyrama's history??? I didn't say anything about all that. I was amazed when you did. - Bagel7 01:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To Whom It May Concern

[edit]

My userpage was recently vandalized. How do I automatically alert someone of that, or make sure it doesnt happen again? - Bagel7 01:56, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well if your userpage is vandalised you should just revert the vandalism. I don't see any recent vandalism, so I'll look into removing it. If you add your page to your watchlist, it will show changes to it on Special:Watchlist. Prodego talk 02:02, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the vandalism. Could you show me where it is? Prodego talk 02:09, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh you removed it already. More information on this is availible at WP:VAND. Prodego talk 02:10, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciated

[edit]

I for one appreciate the fact that you did not capitalize the first letter of lostprophets on your page. I love them and thank you for being so considerate. But yeah, that was extremely cool of you. Papa_smurPH 17:49, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey you're welcome. I'm just glad someone read my list, lol. I love lostprophets. - Bagel7 02:48, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I skimmed through it, I read through the whole thing a second ago and now I must say, you have amazing taste in music. You're also the one person I know who even knows who Bodyjar is, and for that I congratulate you. That's awesome. Papa_smurPH 14:14, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thank you. That means a great deal to me, as you may have been able to tell, since I created and spent time on the whole list. I liked most of the bands on your list too. I'm 15, so we should have similiar tastes in music I suppose. Peace, man, and stay with the cool music. By the way, when you have a chance, check out my forum. Heres the wikipedia page: User:Bagel7/PYRAMA and heres the real page: [1]. I believe many things on it would interest you based on your userpage. - Bagel7 07:19, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check it out in a while. But I'm not gonna be on here much for the next week or two. I've got exam review and then exams themselves so I might be out for a while. Peace. Papa_smurPH 13:17, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Me too, dude, and it's going to suck. Good luck with yours and take care - Bagel7 03:24, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How was i vandalizing?

[edit]

I was making the information more correct, you say your forum was very influential... which is not true. you have 60 members WOW so infuential. sites with millions of members arent even influential. take you head out of your ass and smell some fresh air, what youre doing is falsifying information

First of all, unless you are a member of Pyrama, you cannot make general comments about it. It does not matter if the information is factual or not, that site is part of my userpage, so I get to decide what information goes on it. And since I didn't want the information you deleted to be deleted, that is vandalism. Furthermore, restrain yourself from being vulgar please and there's no reason to start a flame war. Finally please sign your name using 4 tildes, which look like this: "~" - Bagel7 19:51, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok, ok wait. this is wikipedia, theres a reason i can edit anything i want, its to keep things accurate. if you dont want people editing your pages install your own wiki on your server and set it so only you can edit it. also, you are posting false info which im allowed to edit so its proper. im not changing it to "OMFG THIS SITE SUKS, IMA HAX0RS IT UP BITCH" im simply correcting an error. on that note lets look at the definition of vandalism
van·dal·ism P Pronunciation Key (vndl-zm)
n.
Willful or malicious destruction of public or private property.
yep, nothing destructed there. just doing my job as a wiki community user. oh and no, i will not sign my name and before you start tossing around an "ill ban you, ban you good with my giant baning stick!" think about proxies. banning does nothing.
Take it easy buddy. Look again. That page is part of MY userpage, meaning I decide what content is on there. It's fine if you edit it, but I may change it to nonfactual information, because it's not a REAL page. It's part of my userpage. Very good, you can use a dictionary. I only ask you to sign your name because that is the normal procedure we use here at wikipedia. I'm just warning you. Don't worry, you still have several more chances before your proxy is banned - Bagel7 06:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OH NO DONT BAN MY PROXY! I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO ADD ANOTHER! seriously, you missed my point about the proxy, its not my real ip, i can change it whenever i want. banning me will waste 2 min of my time as i change my proxy. speaking of wasting time, yeah, i know how to use a dictionary. its a very very useful tool when you want to show someone they are using a word wrong. and no, i will not sign my name, just because you people here at wikipedia have a standard procedure of what it is you do here doesnt mean that the rest of the world has to follow it, or ever will for that matter. oh and reading your first reply you said i have to be a member, well i was.
Oh wait, I've got an idea, why don't you stop using little proxies to fool around and use your own I.P. address to make useful edits, not stupid little ones to someone's userpage. Hey, if I had been using that word incorrectly then I would have warmly thanked you for your definition. HOWEVER, you were willingly destructing my userpage. How were you destructing it? You were falsifying information that I wanted on it. I don't care if you don't think Pyrama is influential. MY OPINION is that it is. AND, on my userpage, I am allowed to state my opinion without having some upstart wannabe-hacker who thinks he can mess around with proxies so he's all that mess around with it. I never said you had to follow procedure, I merely suggested it. Oh really? Please tell me your screenname on Pyrama. - Bagel7 19:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage vandalism

[edit]

Your warning is just as official is mine would be. However, there are prewritten templates you can use. Simply type {{subst:test}} the first time someone vandalises, the second time {{subst:test2}}, and keep going. Make sure it is the same person before going up a level. Once they vandalise past level 4, stop and leave a message at WP:AIV and and admin will come investigate. Happy editing! Prodego talk 04:04, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks - Bagel7 04:06, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry, it was a typo. It should have been "subst:", not "susbt:". I fixed the typos, and it should work now. Sorry! Prodego talk
Yes, you can and should give IP addresses more then one warning if they vandalize past their first. Open proxies should be blocked immediately and forever, report them to WP:OP, however ISPs who assign IPs dynamicly, like AOL, should not be reported. Contact me if you have problems with this, I can always semi-protect your userpage if it gets bad. Prodego talk 03:38, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Since you are not an administrator, you should not warn past a test4, after that contact a sysop. Prodego talk 03:40, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The proxy that you warned has been blocked See [[2]/ Prodego talk 03:42, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Additions to coaster infobox require article updating, need help

[edit]

I've made several large additions to the {{Infobox roller coaster}} template, which will require updating of EVERY article using it. These additions are automatic unit conversion for the statistics and automatic categorization. I have also provided full documentation of every parameter on the template page, which I strongly encourage you to read. Every article will need the following changes:

  • These parameters must be delinked: location, section, manufacturer, and type. They will be automatically linked, and will (except for section) be used for automatic categorization.
  • The type parameter must be Steel or Wood.
  • The secondary type (Inverted, Floorless, Duelling etc.) should be moved to the type2 parameter. If a second secondary type is necessary, it goes in type3. In either case, don't link them, it will be done automatically.
  • height, drop, length, speed, and restriction must have all non-numeric characters removed. height, drop, and length must be expressed in feet (using decimals instead of inches if necessary), speed must be expressed in miles per hour, and restriction must be expressed in inches. All of these parameters will automatically be converted to metric and displayed in both forms.

Also, the rcdb_number parameter should be added to every coaster article that doesn't have it yet.

If the article is about a widely-cloned coaster such as Batman: The Ride where the template covers multiple installations of the same coaster, the redesigned template will not be appropriate. For these articles, simply change the template to "Infobox roller coaster simplified". This is the old version, without all the automation.

I've already updated over 50 articles myself, but I can't do this all day and I'll need your help to get it done quickly. The list of pages using the template can be found here. I'm sending this message to all listed participants of Wikipedia:WikiProject Roller Coasters. Dusso Janladde 07:40, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brain Teaser AfD

[edit]

To all WikiProject Roller coasters participants: Brain Teaser, a kiddie coaster at Six Flags Darien Lake is up for deletion via WP:AFD. This isn't my article, but if it's deleted, it sets the prescident for many small coasters to be deleted, such as Mild Thing, which runs counter to the Coaster Wikiproject and also will make a lot of park templates look dumb since they can't include all coasters. Talk page blanking

[edit]

There has been a lot of discussion of whether a user (in the case of the discussion, a vandal) can blank warnings on their talk page. While archiving is recommended, the general agreement is that removing the message is a confirmation that the user has read it, and is acceptable. Prodego talk 10:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see how this could be potentially divisive, but then again, couldn't all of the userboxes in this entire section be deleted under the same criteria? I think the Lost userbox you deleted is merely stating opinion, similar to the previously mentioned section, so it should be reinstated. - Bagel7T's,C's,A's 02:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Dislike" userboxes walk a fine line. Currently dislike-based categories are deleted per WP:UBX#Category inclusion. Such userboxes, if nominated, would likely be deleted as well.
That aside, though, Hate/Loathe userboxes are decidely polemic and divisive, and fall directly under WP:CSD#T1. There have been a few examples which could possibly be considered non-divisive, such as users who hate wearing shoes, but such examples are few, and the Lost userbox is/was not one of those.
You are, of course, welcome to start a WP:DRV discussion regarding this, if you wish. - jc37 10:48, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding NUMP

[edit]

He has many contributions in engineering for a majority of the bay area hyphy artists (ie. The Federation, Turf Talk, E-40), was featured on DJ Shadow's album as a hyphy artist, and is signed on E-40's label SickWidIt Records, just to name a few reasons. It's safe to say he is a significant artist to the genre.small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60dumb (talk) 03:36, August 3, 2007 (UTC).

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:00-va-traxamillion presents-the slap addict-2006-cr.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Audioslave article

[edit]

Hello!

I've seen you had done some editing on the Audioslave in the past, so I thought maybe you are interested in helping me out with getting the article to FA status. I have completely rewritten it, added references to everything that can be challenged, added images with fair use rationales, and audio samples as well. It is currently undergoing a peer review here and also a prose review at the Alternative music Wikiproject here. So if you'd like to, you can write your suggestions to any of these pages, or feel free to edit the article yourself. I think all of the problems are grammatical now, and I'm not that good at pointing them out, or correcting them to a brilliant level, as my first language is not English.

Thank you very much in advance. Gocsa 19:04, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

You can listen to sound samples on Wikipedia using your browser (just click "play in browser") or you can download the .ogg files, and then listen to them in Winamp, Windows Media Player, or any other media player. You can read the guideline about how to upload samples at the WP:Music samples. You can upload the .ogg files the same way as images, at the "Upload file" menu on the left. Fair use disputed for Image:Cherry Pie.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cherry Pie.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:29, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of FileScope

[edit]

A tag has been placed on FileScope requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. KurtRaschke (talk) 00:39, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please update your status with WP:VG

[edit]

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Hello, I am leaving you this message as part of a personal effort to revive the Queen WikiProject of which you are listed as a participant. If you are not interested in committing yourself to contributing to Queen related articles please go about removing yourself from the participants list on the project page. On the other hand if you are interested in the project and do wish to contribute, I encourage you to head over to the project's talk page to work towards outstanding tasks and share ideas on how Queen-related articles may be improved.

Thanks for reading this, and I look forward to your response. Such a legendary group deserves to be honoured with quality articles on Wikipedia and it is a great shame such a project has gone inactive.

Collaboration of Punks

[edit]
HEY HO, LET'S GO!!!

Punk rockers—As you know, the Ramones are undeniably the first punk rock band, so it is vital to this genre that we collaborate to improve their scope! So far, I have worked on the band's first three albums, and it would be awesome if all the punks on Wiki would aid in expanding/cleaning the Ramones articles. You can see my progress here.
Please fellow fans, do this for the old-school punk.

We'll be one of many sites worldwide participating in this edit-a-thon on March 7th. So join us as we help improve Wikipedia's coverage of women artists and their works!

Second, we will be celebrating International Women's Day with the International Women's Day edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 8 from 1pm to 5pm at the Wikimedia Foundation. Our editing focus will be on women, of course!

I hope to see you there! Rosiestep (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:06, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Please join us in San Francisco!
A Wikipedia panel discussion about journalism
Panel discussion at a recent Wikipedia & Journalism event.

The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area will gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas. We have two brief presentations lined up for our kickoff event in downtown San Francisco:

  • The Nueva Upper School recently hosted the first ever high school Wikipedia edit-a-thon. We will hear what interests them about Wikipedia, what they have learned so far, and what they hope to achieve.
  • Photojournalist Kris Schreier Lyseggen, author of The Women of San Quentin: The Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons, will tell us about her work and how she researched the topic.

We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. We will have beverages and light snacks.

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on this point.

For further details, see here: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, April 2016

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have:

  • A brief report on Pride edit-a-thon recently held at the San Francisco Publice Library, coordinated by Merrilee:
What topics might we cover in a follow up?
Find out more about resources your public library provides to help with editing (hint, it's more than just books!)
Special announcement (secret for now but come and find out more!)
  • Join in on an in person Wikidojo!
Are you curious how your peers approach writing a Wikipedia article? This exercise, pioneered by Wikipedians Nikola Kalchev and Vassia Atanassova in 2015 and conducted in many places around the world, will help us all - from first-time wiki users to veteran Wikipedians - share ideas, while building an article together. If you have ideas (relating to Bay Area history, ideally) about a new article we could build (stubs and short existing articles are fine), please submit them ahead of time to coordinator Pete Forsyth. (User talk page or email is fine.)
Announcements and impromptu topics are welcome, too!

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict.

We hope you can join us today, Wednesday, from 6 p.m. on, at our July Bay Area WikiSalon. This month only, we are going to be at Noisebridge, a hackerspace/makerspace 1.5 blocks from the 16th & Mission BART station (see the link for directions). Some of us will be working on the Wikipedia article on basic income. All info here. Some good news - we do not have to be as strict about advance RSVP at Noisebridge, so bring spontaneous guests! (Registering ahead of time is still helpful, as always, as it will help us plan ahead.)

Come and hang out, have some light snacks. Wi-Fi is available, so please bring your editing device if you plan to edit.

Also, Pete just published a writeup of the Wikidojo exercise we did last month. Your comments welcome, if he missed anything! http://wikistrategies.net/ghost-town-royals-wikidojo

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:

  • Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We will have no formal agenda to allow people to freely share ideas and perhaps learn about Wikipedia through hands-on editing. Co-organizer Ben Creasy will be looking at election-related articles to enhance the information available in the upcoming November elections.

Official logo of Wiki Loves Monuments

Co-organizer Stephen LaPorte has suggested doing an upload-a-thon for Wiki Loves Monuments. Niki, the California coordinator for WLM will be in attendance. WLM is an annual event and the official dealine is Friday the 30th for submissions to count towards awards.

Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, or a stool and do your own thing.

Despite several warnings, you have chosen to continue edit-warring to reinsert that non-free image here, violating WP:NFCC policy. On reflection, rather than actually blocking you, I have chosen to instead fully protect this talkpage for a couple of days. This means that you can't continue edit-warring here. Unfortunately, it also means other (non-admin) users won't be able to leave messages to you, and you can't respond to this message here either. I felt this was the more efficient and less burdensome alternative to the other course of action, blocking you and removing your access to your talkpage for the duration of the block. This way you can still edit elsewhere, and if you wish to challenge my action, you are welcome to do so on my talkpage. Before you do that, please do read the policy you were given the link to. Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday

[edit]

Hi!

Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.

The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.

In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.
