Equipment list

[edit]

TimmyTermite contacted me on my talk page about the equipment list in the main article. It's too big and it's unsourced. I'd like to make continuous text out of it with dropping less important stuff. Let's stay with special guitars and effects he played or plays. Stuff that's really characteristic for him. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 21:53, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Csaag wrote on the project page: Buckethead's gear should reflect that his Les Paul Custom has a second killswitch and black pickups, and so does not have all-white hardware, as I believe that Buckethead does not have multiple versions of the guitar: rather, he has just one, which he occasionally updates. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 16:13, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Afaik he HAS different LPs, at least three. But maybe s.o. more into this can clear it up. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 16:13, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's a discussion going on at Talk:Buckethead#Re: Equipment section right now. Please help if you have additional info.----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 01:32, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2007 - present

[edit]

This section should be reworked immediately. It's just terrible. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:22, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I already improove it, i hope its better, in some weeks now when the smokes on Chinese Democracy are gone i will add in that part something about that album.--Pachon (talk) 19:30, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is, we both can't write good articles in English. We really need someone else to rewrite section for section of this monster. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:44, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i speak fluent english, if you want me to take a gander at the section. what countries are you from? or what language do you speak mainly? curious and stuff. Ritzbitz00 (talk) 20:56, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The quotes

[edit]

The article uses different kinds of quoting, IMHO they all look like rubbish. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:22, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other Songs

[edit]

the songs Buckethead has released on his web page should have their own pages with information "Game of Death" and "I Like It Raw" are the songs —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pachon (talkcontribs) 19:43, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An Idea - maybe

[edit]

Today I had a full run through the article and made lots of small changes. I doubt we can improve this article much without making really big changes. But I don't wanna do them without asking others. Plus, I'll need some help for sure. At least some readers.

What I wanna do is restructure the article and rewrite the full career section. How about making a section only about his solo work first and then another section about his band projects? Why? Simple: The article says really nothing about the styles of the albums and also nothing about the evolution he's gone through in the past 20 years. And even worse it says nothing about what kind his contributions to other projects or releases were, really nothing about the variety of his playing.

Another alternative would be a article like the one on Bill Laswell. That's a very well written article hardly mentioning more than the first and (if existing) further key releases of each project. Do we have to name every Praxis live CD or compilation? Every Cornbugs CD? We have main articles for all the bands and projects so we should use more space on BH's playing than on naming 100 records that can be looked at on the discography page. Any suggestions? --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 23:14, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I only put the names of the most relevant band and albums i didnt want to put the rest beacose its to unnesesary like the part about freekbass i was planning of removing that from the main page. I put them because if we didnt i would have so little like the first part is ok, the we would only have the Colma part and Death Cube K, then the Guns N Roses and Ozzy, then we would have Jordan and finally we would have Science Faxtion and Guns N' Roses again and thats it. He doesnt talk too much in fact he doesnt talk at all so its very hard to know about thim or the most relevant releases beacose there is hardly any critic or something releated talking about Buckethead albums.--Pachon (talk) 19:34, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, another idea. Completely restructure this whole bloody thing:
  • Introduction: throw out the KFC stuff since it is not up to date, maybe put in some notes about his playing (see German Wikipedia for reference). Most of the intro there is about his playing, not his lookings.
  • Career: shorten as mentioned above, we don't need all compilations and live albums
  • New section "style" with some nice musical scores (see German article about Pink Floyd for reference) and maybe incl. the equipment part
  • New section "influences/inspirations" where we can cite some of his KFC/chicken, TCM, Giant Robot, Disney fetishes as well as some musicians
  • Then the whole bottom.
Your turn!----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 21:15, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Collabs list out?

[edit]

We may shorten the main article a bit by making a list of people Buckethead worked with. It could look similiar to List of Telecaster players and be based on this thingy. A table containing first and last collab and listing all album releases would be another possibility, see List of Guns N' Roses band members for reference. Meeting the TKs

[edit]

This goes out to everyone also at the TK boards. I know Bucketfel is here as User:Pachon and it's me under the same name. Maximum Bob Article

[edit]

I have previously created a page for Maximum Bob, giving a relatively in depth history of him, but since it had no sources (wouldn't you know it), it was immediately removed by the editors.

Someone can ask the editors/admin to put up that page again in one of our user pages so we can make it good, and if someone can find sources, then we can bring it back. And btw, he was said in a buckethead history video (one of their early tapes) that his name was Bob Hack. Is this real? A response is always appreciated. Ritzbitz00 (talk) 21:07, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The BMI entry for "The Hand" from Enter The Chicken gives his name as Robert Bornum and that's what I wrote into the Deli Creeps article. But yes we should have this article about Bob restored so we can work out a better one. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 06:37, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
holy crap, robert bornum? i never checked my copy, i should i guess. My copy of the reissue has that rectangle that appears when a text character isnt recognized all over the booklet in places where dashes should be. did anyone else have that problem? should i mention it in the enter the chicken page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritzbitz00 (talkcontribs) 04:47, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My booklet says "Barnum". --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 06:40, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ps: But it says "Into" instead of "Intro" inside the booklet also. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 06:41, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
and btw, we have that video of maximum bob. from that, we can get enough facts about his name, life, location and family to put together a real article about him. I wrote an article earlier this year, but it got taken off because it didnt have any real sources. now we have the sources. we can do it. after we undelete the article, we can make it work this time : )Ritzbitz00 (talk) 05:29, 2 January 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritzbitz00 (talkcontribs)

well sorry for not talking about the creation of the single of Praxis Animal Behavior but i forgot only im sorry, im also trying to gather information about the other video from Praxis that is also where Buckethead apeares, im refering to the video from the album Metatron, Inferno/Heatseeker/Exploded Heart. any information would be apreciated.--Pachon (talk) 19:34, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

is not the first picture, is when he was playing with the Deli Creeps and can be found on the Young Buckethead web page, also apeares on the first DVD of Yougn Buckethead. Try to make it stay there and not be erased--Pachon (talk) 18:27, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have the file on my watchlist now. Best would be to ask Jas Obrecht if we can use it. It may be deleted. Let's see. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:41, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The picture was eliminated again anyone can put it back?--Pachon (talk) 19:35, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, we should have asked Jas. But I really hoped we'd get some pictures through the TK. None yet. [1] I searched Flickr for free images but did not find much either. --Say Headcheese!-hexaChord2 20:28, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Viggo Mortensen

[edit]

the album pages of Viggo Mortensen are on their way, i would apreciate if someone correct them if theres any problem, calculate the lenght of each album, conecting the missing points to each artist, and putting the picture, ill be creating the pages of the rest of his albums in some days from now, maybe friday it will be finished, thanks.--Pachon (talk) 16:15, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great work as I told you already, hope I have time to do a little research on them the next days so all info will be double-checked. --Say Headcheese!-hexaChord2 20:30, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Small Change

[edit]

Hey guys I joined so I can do my part improving the quality of Buckethead articles just let me know if there's anything i can do. I already made a small change to the template, i noticed that the song Welcome to Bucketheadland has an article but wasn't linked to so i added it under notable songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BaconSquishy (talkcontribs) 19:45, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, welcome on board! Just had a look on your recent edits and hell yes, I didn't think there were still so many small spelling errors. You did a good job on that! There's a Todo-list on the project page, so if you have a bit of spare time... You also can add tasks or wishes to the list or make a small shout here. The project is fresh so all input is welcomed!----Merry Headcheese!-hexaChord2 23:20, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The future of the taskforce

[edit]

Since a discussion takes place at Template talk:User TFBH2 it is maybe time to overthink the whole project. This taskforce has been started two months ago without knowing how good it would work. It works not that bad I think. I hoped some more guys from the TK boards would participate but as always you can't have everything. I think it was a bigger success than the wikia project started in February.

This taskforce seems to work so we might turn it into a real WikiProject. If there's some interest we also could include somewhat related artists like Bill Laswell, John Zorn or P-funk and all their works to the project. I guess it'll be hard to find a good name for the project though.

The other possibility would be to stay as a taskforce, but maybe under WP:MUSICIAN or something similiar. WP:GUITAR seems to be dead and not the right parent for us. We also could adopt WP:GNR which is inactive at the moment. So your input is really needed now. Thank you.--Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 01:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this task force covers enough articles (I took a look at the list of articles, and discounting the redirects & dab pages it is only a few dozen), nor is likely to attract enough members (it currently only has 9), to require expansion into a full project. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Identify the best scope and "Identify the best structure" for guidance on this. It would probably just die from administrative overload; a task force seems to be the perfect structure for this and it should probably remain this way. --IllaZilla (talk) 02:39, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick response. I don't know the exact number of pages we cover at the moment but of course it only would make sense if some additional members worked on a broader field (related artists mentioned above). This could multiply the number of pages in a second. What would you suggest a suitable parent project? I'm also thinking about some avant-garde music project (including let's say Aphex Twin, Throbbing Gristle, The Residents etc.) with this taskforce being a child of.----Happy new Headcheese!-hexaChord2 03:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Im not very good at understanding the bureaucracy of wikipedia. Exactly how would being a full wikiproject be different from a task force in terms of what we can do, what we're allowed? i think, honestly, our group is too specific to be a full wikiproject, i think it's fine the way it is, although we could do more work on articles. No amount of renaming, or changing the structure of what we are would really attract more members, or make our work ethic any better. we just need to get our shit together, organize, make a list of what we need and really act on it, an d maybe put posts on some buckethead forums if we really need more members.Ritzbitz00 (talk) 05:26, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just looking for a bit of response. This will help the project I hope. I don't wanna just rename the child but make it bigger. I just don't know the direction yet and want to depend this on possible new members. There's no project, groups or whatever on Bill Laswell yet. Why not make one including the BH task force? Or a P-Funk project? If there's interest - there's lots of possibilities... For the TODO-list: There's one already. Some articles are in work, and several still missing ones are listed. Enough to do I guess. For the forums: I tried. I tried hard in February 2008 for the Wikia thing and tried again in November for this thing. If you wanna try again - do it.----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 06:09, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The task force is good; I think it is run fairly well. DO NOT make it a full Project, that will be too much work. Also, DO NOT include related artists' work, Buckethead and his is enough for now. No Bucket articles are Featured, or even Good, so we need to bring them up to scratch. Articles need general cleanups and the task force will run smoothly.
My advice:
  • Keep the task force;
  • Keep advertising;
  • Add WP:Musicians as another parent; and
  • Keep focused on improving already existing articles, then make new ones.
I will stay active! Andre666 (talk) 13:01, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're the 2nd to tell me that it would be too much work to have a full project. What's the difference? I don't see any really. Setting this thing up was some hours. The code was mainly stolen from other projects. I spent a whole weekend in February to set up the Wikia thing (a complete waste of time) and do a lot to maintain this project. For example I watch over every edit to the 200 articles and pages we currently have in our watchlist. About FA and GA: I've made suggestions for the BH main article without much response yet.[2][3] I'm no native English speaker, I can't make the article much better in linguistic terms. That 1 Guy and Nicky Skopelitis have better articles in German than in English for that very reason. With Praxis it's the same. User:Pachon and me tried our best and still the article is pure rubbish. That's where we need additional help and I'm trying to get some at the moment.----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 13:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the general direction of the discussion, i think we're doing decently so far considering that we are just 9 people so i would be in favor of keeping the task force. I can help with some of the linguistic aspects as i have been, mainly small things like spelling and grammar but i'll take a look at the articles you mentioned and see if i can do anything to help. BaconSquishy (talk) 17:32, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At least there is some action - that's more than I imagined in the first place... ;-) ----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 21:33, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My advice stems from my experience as a member of several wikiprojects and my close handling of a couple: I launched WP:ALIEN and top-to-bottom revamped WP:PUNK. The major differences between a task force and a full project, logistically speaking, are the number of tools involved and the amount of administration required to keep the project running. For example, you'll want to set up an assessment department (like this one) so you can organize your article work; this requires creating and maintaining at least 15 or so categories by quality and importance. You'll also have to set up your banner to work with those categories so that your articles gets sorted properly. This all involves working with WP:1.0 as the process uses their grading scale and a number of their tools. You'd probably also want a Manual of Style subsection and a formal collaboration system. Finally, projects work best when they have an accompanying Portal that they maintain and work in conjunction with (Portal:Guitar is the one that the guitarists project already works off of, though I imagine a separate portal for guitarists might be suitable as the project has nearly 2,000 articles in its scope).
As a task force you don't need all this overhead, because you're working with the tools that your parent project already has in place. For example, your manual of style and criteria of assessment for a Buckethead-related article isn't going to be any different from that of any other guitarist, band, or album-related article, so there's really no point in setting up a separate MoS or assessment dept. The essential questions to ask when considering growing from a task force to a full project are: is the subject (Buckethead) different enough from other guitarist-related topics that it requires its own set of guidelines, evaluation criteria, and administration? Does it encompass enough articles to make all this logistical overhead worth it? Will it attract enough participation that it will be able to perpetuate itself, or will it die out?
In terms of my own experience, WP:ALIEN (as well as Portal:Alien) has been active almost a year, covers 75 articles, and has attracted only 9 members. I handle 100% of the administration of that project because there's not enough active membership to keep features like the collaboration of the week, things to do, or even the announcements section running. Really the only useful feature is the assessement department, which helps me keep track of recent changes and recognize which articles need what kind of work. I'd love to see the project get bigger, but as of right now it only stays afloat because I have a vested interest in it. WP:PUNK was a little different: my revamp of that project gave it a bit of a shot in the arm. It had been active for 2 and a half years but didn't have any of the important features like an assessment department. Adding those things certainly helped give the project some direction, but even with a field as broad as punk rock and currently covering 700 articles we only have 30 active members. So even there a lot of the features go unused (collaboration of the week, manual of style, etc.). I've got high hopes for that one since the scope is much broader, but again I do a majority of the overhead like maintaining the categories & checking the assessments.
Experience and a little browsing tells me that full wikiprojects devoted to a single person or act usually wind up dieing of administrative overload and go inactive (see the "Task forces" section of WP:PUNK for several examples). They just don't have a broad enough scope to make all the overhead necessary, and they don't attract enough interest to perpetuate themselves. And when a project stalls, it's less likely to attract new members (after all, nobody likes to be the only one at a party or a meeting). These operations fare better as task forces, where they simply take members of an existing project (guitarists) and get them fired up about a particular subtopic that they're all interested in (Buckethead). My suggestion is to stay a task force of the guitarists project, but also add WP:MUSICIANS and WP:ALBUMS as parents. Keep your article list but clean it up: organize it by quality so you know which articles need the most work, and take out the redirects & dab pages as those don't require any collaboration beyond being on a couple of members' watchlists. You don't really need a whole assessment department, as keeping track of new articles and changes in assessment can be done manually in a task force this size. You might also add links to the manuals of style for the guitarists, albums, and musicians projects from your main page, as these are the article guidelines you're going to be following.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share my own experiences. Don't let this discourage you; if enough people feel that this justifies a full project, then go for it, but realize it takes a lot of work to maintain and there's a chance you'll end up doing all that work yourself. On a cursory glance it looks like this task force is doing a great job so far, and could use just a few organizational tweaks (ie. organizing articles by quality) that would help set some clear goals. --IllaZilla (talk) 23:43, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's a lot of information and a lot of ideas. Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music/Collaboration of the week seems to be a nice thing - if it works. We may do this on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Links to the MoS pages of the parent projects also seems to be a good feature though I see bigger problems in article maintaining. Would be easier than naming the bad sheeps manually all the time. I don't want to shorten the watchlist by now because it's a very easy way for new members to have a quick look on all recent changes. Maybe later. But I may re-organize it and make sections for RDRs and DABs or sort it by albums, persons etc. Thank you very much for your input, it's highly appreciated. Again, thanks. ----Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 01:03, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

maybe I'm missing somthing here, but the>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Buckethead_albums

The albums page has 75 albums. It includes some of the Viggo stuff (some have (viggo mortensen) in parenthesis next to the album, some dont.) it does not include cornbugs, or deli creeps, etc...theres so much not on there!! My question is, what is the goal for this page/article. This discog is good, seems unfinished. it has lots of info but im not sure of the numbers given at the top are accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.121.17.60 (talk) 15:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Yes, I know. It's a question of definition, what's a Buckethead album and what is not. You're right about the Cornbugs, they should be in. The Creeps don't have album articles, since "Dawn of..." is merged into the band's main article and the two demo tapes don't match the notability guidelines of Wikipedia. Is the GN'R album a BH labum because it feat. BH? See the problem? The disco page however should be complete. If you know about albums that are not listed here, on TK or B&G - please tell us. --Avant-garde a clue-hexaChord2 16:19, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Pebber Brown

[edit]

I've seen several videos in which Pebber Brown is mentioned and I was wondering if we should add Pebber's name next to Paul Gilbert's regarding guitar teachers.

Where it says "...most notably Paul Gilbert...", is this reffering to the fact that Paul Gilbert is more popular? 72.66.62.233 (talk) 00:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)D01703 4/2/09 20:44 D01703[reply]

I would agree, i just became aware of this too although i would want something more than just a mention in a video like an article or interview or something perhaps to verify BaconSquishy (talk) 20:57, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have updated information regarding Pebber Brown twice now and it gets deleted. I understood that people can't write info regarding themselves (I may be wrong on this) But Pebber would be the most verifiable source as to who taught Brian guitar lessons. If he is unable to post then it should be understood that my information should be taken as reliable information as well. Not only did Brian Carroll play in my band when he was 18 and 19 yrs old but Pebber has been a friend of mine for over 20 years. And I have been associated with the music store owners where Brian took lessons from Pebber for 30 years. I do not understand the importance of Brian taking a few guitar lessons from Paul Gilbert when most of his studies came through Pebber Brown. Just because someone is famous should not elevate them above someone that is not as well known. Anyone can search youtube and find videos of Young Buckethead where Maximum Bob calls Pebber Brown the Master of Scales and everything Modal. In fact in the video Buckethead reminds Maximum Bob to mention it. Buckethead also pays tribute to Pebber in another online youtube video that was filmed at the music store he took lessons at for many many years. This was just 6 yrs or so ago for their 25th anniversary event. I would say that what I posted regarding Pebber Brown and Brian's other teachers such as Johnny Fortune, Max McGuire and others be included as documented history here on wiki. If interested I can arrange an interview with Pebber Brown for complete accuracy. I've just closed the stub-type of {{Buckethead-stub}} for deletion. If you look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types/Culture#Music you will see that almost all other albums are classified by genra. I don't think I have the knowledge to classify his albums appropriately so you may wish to place them under appropriate stub types. I'm guessing most will fall under {{2000s-rock-album-stub}}. --Salix (talk): 19:51, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this is new, but thanks for letting me know. I must say I'm very disappointed with him/her.--DisturbedNerd999 (Delete!) 06:06, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Buckethead Songs

[edit]

I have just updated the Buckethead Template with sections of Buckethead albums that contain notable, in an event to stop them from being marked for deletion. I encourage every to create new sections or articles about such notable Buckethead songs, and inlcude music samples. A good example of such pages I'm talking about is the page for Joradn. Once this task is completed, Wikipedia users will better understand some of Buckethead's work, without having to go to another website, therefore making Wikipedia a great site for more knowledge about Buckethead. Thanks for taking the time to read this message!

WP 1.0 bot announcement

[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:03, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot

[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Guitarists/Buckethead task force/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you. Okip 02:48, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
