Bonjour Monsieur, est-ce que vous êtes Francophile aussi? Je voudrais vous attribuer cette décoration pour vos contributions merveilleuses à Wikipédia. Izehar 16:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

[edit]
The Epic Barnstar
The Epic Barnstar is awarded to an editor who makes particularly fine History and Event-related contributions. This award is in recognition of QuartierLatin's creation of Template:Praenomina, and willingness to work with other editors concerned with that subject to improve it, up to and including locating an obscure typographical symbol required to make it accurate and comprehensive! This template is a wonderful addition to the subject! P Aculeius (talk) 13:56, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Anguiped, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Iao (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:50, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, that was intended; Iao in this context can be, but isn't necessarily, the Gnostic archon. Q·L·1968 15:47, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eryops IPA

[edit]

Not sure if your edit summary pronounced like "e" in "merry" rather than "a" in "Mary" at this change to Eryops was meant to be a sly joke, or not. If it was, I got it. If it wasn't, you might be interested in reading English-language vowel changes before historic /r/#Mary–marry–merry merger. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 11:15, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Iraq 2005 Referendum Governorates.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Washington Declaration (disambiguation)

[edit]

Hello, QuartierLatin1968. I removed the bullet that you added to Washington Declaration because it did not disambiguate an existing Wikipedia article. WP:Disambiguation pages are not articles. They are just navigation guides that help readers find articles that have potentially ambiguous names. There does not appear to be a current article on Wikipedia about the 2021 US-German statement you described. If you would care to create one, it would then be appropriate to add it to the DAB page. Felim O'Neill of Kinard

[edit]

Dear Qartier Latin, I agree with most of your corrections and I see you are an experienced wikipedian (more so than I am). The one exception being 1640–1649 -> 1640–1649. I find it makes the text less readable. Thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:39, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannes Schade Thanks very much! Style guides might differ as to whether an en-dash or a hyphen should be used in ranges of numbers. The one I'm most familiar with, however, prescribes dashes (Chicago style). I was editing on mobile, however, and it's possible I mistook which character was being used. On this device, it displays like a hyphen with padding on either side. Do you know what it is exactly? I appreciate your mentioning it, Q·L·1968 14:14, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:RANGES prescribes the en dash and prohibits the hyphen in numeric ranges and also explains when to insert spaces before and after the en dash. In its examples it always uses "–" and never "–" (the HTML entity name). I would deduct that "–" should be preferred over the entity name. Thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 14:50, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to thank you for creating File:Abolition of slavery in the United States SVG map.svg, which is simultaneously beautiful and informative. It makes me proud to be a Wikipedian every time I come across it. jengod (talk) 18:42, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jengod Thanks so much! That's such a lovely comment. I was really happy to contribute it; the map is meant to be informative in general and in particular to rebut such lazy and misleading arguments as "the Emancipation Proclamation freed no slaves" (while also noting Congressional and state action to end slavery). It was agonizingly slow and piecemeal, but it's one of the best things the US ever did in my opinion... Q·L·1968 05:19, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
