The Berkeley Center for New Media is hosting Sarah Stierch as the Susan B. Miller Fellow. As part of Stierch's programming, she is hosting Wikipedia workshops and edit-a-thons. These events aim to educate the public, students, and especially women on the importance of contributing to Wikipedia. Females comprise approximately 10-20% of editors on the world's 5th biggest website (on any given day).
This event carries forward the momentum gained from WikiWomen's History Month. This event is one of many around the world that aims to engage more women to edit Wikipedia, and to improve coverage about women's history on Wikipedia. This event will be facilitated by User:SarahStierch.
We will open with a brief introduction to Wikipedia policies, and then dive into editing. Participants will be encouraged to either write new articles about subjects that interest them, or to expand articles that interest them. All participants will have "edits that stick" by 5 PM.
