March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Recent edits of user Arcarius

I saw today that you recently deleted sections "Terminology" and "Sources" in the article Anti-Slavic sentiment. Please, reconsider those actions since there was no reason for removing referenced content, and also there was no justification (what so ever) for deleting source list that contained some very relevant scientific collections of papers, and papers from scientific journals, all published in recent years. I asked user @Staszek Lem: not to delete referenced content without discussion, but there was no reply. I do not want to comment here some other recent actions, like those of user @Arcarius:, who unilaterally moved page List of Catholic dioceses in Serbia to new title List of Catholic dioceses in Serbia and Kosovo, and introduced some erroneous data into that article. When I saw that last month, I contacted him here: Some of your recent edits on Kosovo are incorrect, and asked him to correct those errors (for example, he claims there that Vatican has recognized Kosovo), but so far he made no corrections. There is nothing wrong with you adding information on etymology, terminology, etc. Just make sure to use secondary sources that explicitly corroborate the given text, rather than finding primary sources yourself and using them to provide an example of what sorts of terms were in use 200 years ago. This is original research and isn't allowed on Wikipedia. If you are able to find a secondary source chronicling the terminology in question then by all means reinstate the deleted text. First of all, I would like to clarify that I have no interest in being caught up in this dispute. Costas Douzinas, in The End of Human Rights: Critical Thought at the Turn of the Century (Bloomsbury, 2000), p. 135, says that nurseries were indeed targeted. You are free to check Google Books to verify. Just because some crank tosses it into a book, doesn't make it so. The idea that NATO military heads sat around a table and thought that bombing a nursery was a good idea is just rank stupidity. We could try, but we'll run into a number of obstacles given that there is already significant competition for that particular date and that a similar article (Gudovac massacre) just had its time in the spotlight. Fair enough, but the passage that you altered clearly states "a major battle of the First Balkan War" and not "the major battle". "An important battle", which is what you added, means the exact same thing as "a major battle", so I'm not even sure why there is a dispute. "Major" sounds more professional than "important", which should be reserved for Simple English Wikipedia. Also, I believe iUniverse is a self-publishing service. Yes, but Igor Despot is a History and Philosophy professor at the University of Zagreb. He has master degree from the same University, with the thesis The Balkan Wars (1912 -1913) and the Croatian Public. Hi, Sadko. At the moment, I don't think the article is ready for GA given how much of it remains unsourced. When this is resolved and when the prose is copy-edited, I think it stands a fair chance of becoming a GA. There isn't one specific area that is lacking, the issues I've outlined are ubiquitous unfortunately. I'll try to make some improvements if and when I have the time. And shouldnt Kosova be the one that receives the revoke letters? Why should serbia receive them but we not? Makes no sense huh? I know my country better than people from outside! I saw you reverted my edit on Ratko Mladić, with a comment that seemed to indicate that the material in question was inappropriate and not included in the cited source. I agree, which is why my edit removed the text, but your seemed to put in back. Was this just a mistake, or is there something about your edit summary I'm misunderstanding? Svetozar Borojević

With RV you didn't help. Editor Sadko now will not supply anything as evidence for (Serb descent, ancestors) origin. That's exactly he was waiting for. Unfortunately, there are no documents that speak of him as a Serb. Determine origin of someone(ancestors) because they are Orthodox I do not know is this for Wikipedia at all. Svetozar Borojević declares himself as a Croat and then his ancestors are probably Croats or I'm wrong? In any case, originally in that area we have no mention of Serbs. His birth area is in part of Croatia where many Croatian peasants migrate and they becoming part of Vlach and part of them convert to Orthodoxy. Later Catholics become Croats, Orthodox become Serbs but it's a mixed area so we don't know whether or not there are and Orthodox Croats. Part of the historical material of that time also mention and Orthodox Croats in that area. This is history of Croatia. To a man who declares himself as Croatian we through the article artificially create "Serbian ancestor origin". The only way is an RV because there is no evidence and accordingly discussions on talk page makes no sense. That there is good faith to work together then there would be no problem but editor Sadko likes to keep some information in articles even though he knows that they may not be accurate or historically confirmed. OK, I reckon I've got them all. The obvious gap is 1944, for which there is very little. That may because he was restricted to guarding railway lines by the Germans and did very little, but Milazzo doesn't mention him until late in 1944, so if Popović and Lolić & Latas have anything in that timeframe, that would be very helpful. Karađorđe's haplogroup

The only assertions that I can see have been removed are 1) Bishop Akšamović's objection to a camp being established on church property and 2) that the liquidation was overseen by Joso Matković. Everything else has been retained, albeit with different sources. Basta is probably WP:RS so I can reinsert the Matković bit. Do you have a source other than Bulajić for the Akšamović claim? I wouldd also note -- this isn't the only time I've seen you remove RS cited material, without any good reason to do so. Re: Bugojno

I noticed that. There may be too few sources that describe the flight of Bugojno Croats as an ethnic cleansing for an entire article, there's much more for ARBiH offensives in the Lašva Valley for example. I'll look into it though. Tezwoo (talk) 21:55, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Croatia-Serbia Relations Article Scope

Perhaps you are right that the quote is unnecessary. However wouldn’t you agree then that this edit here adding a Recent Development sections, much of which is content not directly talking about bilateral relations between the countries but rather internal affairs? Doesn’t seem like the correct article for the content. Ethnicity relations is not what the article is about but national state level relations. Unless I am misunderstanding or misreading the article? Nowadays Albanian is the first language of Kosovo and "Suhareka" comes first and "Suva Reka" comes after. Reference errors

In Decorating of the Bride there are two cites to "Filipovitch-Robinson 2008" and "Kusovac 2012" that are missing full citation in bibliography. There are works cited by these authors, but different year -- unclear if the year is a typo. Can you please clarify? @Aza24: The books are Kosovo: A Short History by Noel Malcolm and We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust by Aleksandar Gaon. However, there are other sources presented in the article for those particular claims, and since they aren't remotely controversial, you might as well remove the Malcolm and Gaon citations altogether as per WP:OVERCITE.
