Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Therandas, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one of your contributions does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.

There's a page about the NPOV policy that has tips on how to effectively write about disparate points of view without compromising the NPOV status of the article as a whole. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Questions page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Below are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Suva Reka. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Njazi Azemi, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Viti. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hashim Thaçi and elsewhere

[edit]

Hi Therandas. Please stop changing historical city names. For example, when Hashim Thaçi was born, the city he was born in was part of the Socialist Republic of Serbia where it was referred to as "Srbica" so we use that. We also indicate that the city is now part of Kosovo where it is referred to as "Skenderaj".

This way of dealing with disagreements over naming has served Wikipedia well. Don't you think it's a decent compromise?

Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:23, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The city name had two names during Yugoslavia and Skenderaj is very often used as well during that time. Srbica was the Serbian version of the city name. Kosovo has two official languages and since Skenderaj/Srbica is majority Albanian, it is preferred to use the Albanian version of the city. Therandas (talk) 22:08, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These names are not “historical” but rather the second name version. Srbica is the Serbian variant and is not used anymore (see main wiki page of Skenderaj). Thus Skenderaj is the main city name nowadays. I sincerely ask to not reverse the correct changes since it’s not correct. Therandas (talk) 22:13, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kosovo has two official languages and since Skenderaj/Srbica is majority Albanian, it is preferred to use the Albanian version of the city. Kosovo was not independent at the time of Thaçi's birth. Srbica is the Serbian variant and is not used anymore. Thus Skenderaj is the main city name nowadays. Yes, nowadays. The city was known as "Srbica" at the time of Thaçi's birth. That was exactly my point. Robby.is.on (talk) 07:47, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kosovo was an Autonomous Province where Albanian was the primarly language since majority of the people were Albanian. It was also called Skenderaj back then. Even during Hashim Thaçi’s birthyear Kosovo was an Autonomous Province with its own language. I sincerely ask you to stop vandalizing the birthplace since it is against the Wiki rules. Therandas (talk) 07:52, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See this quote from https://www.radiandradi.com/argumentet-dhe-metodat-e-politikes-ekspansioniste-serbe-per-ta-sunduar-kosoven-nga-akademik-mark-krasniqi/, which is used as a reference in Skenderaj#Etymology, translated through Google Translate: "In Kosovo, some cities also changed their names after the Balkan War in 1912, such as calling it Ferizaj - Uroshevac, Hanin e Elezit - General Jankovic, Skënderajn - Serbica and so on".
Also "The Serbs, but not only them, are inclined to Serbize everything that is possible." I'm not saying it was a legitimate thing to do but it happened. Robby.is.on (talk) 11:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Historic city names

[edit]

Can you explain edits like this and this? You made dozens of such edits. Wikipedia's consensus is to use historic city names when referring to past events. In 1984, the city was indeed called Titova Mitrovica. Why did you change it? Vanjagenije (talk) 11:20, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The city name was not historic. The city names always had a bilingual name. And since majority of the Albanians lived there, the Albanian version was used. Therandas (talk) 09:37, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then, why didn't you change it to "Mitrovica e Titos"? Vanjagenije (talk) 22:40, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The place was never called Mitrovica e Titos in Albanian. It always was called Mitrovica. I will revert your edit since it is wrong and will report to the admins if you keep fruading this edit. Therandas (talk) 10:55, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week for persistently making disruptive edits. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:29, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The articles I edited are being vandalized by Serbian bots who keep changinng the city/town/village names to their Serbian version. However the Serbian version is unsourced and false. Nobody has taken any action towards this. My blocking is unfair and has nothing to do with my edits. When you read my edits and the source behind you will see that it matches. Meanwhile the people who reverts my edits are actually contradicting the source that has been linked. Check for yourself to see Therandas (talk) 19:02, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Not being vandalised. You were editing disruptively. Please read WP:NOTVAND and WP:EW. Daniel (talk) 01:58, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Last warning - changing historical city names

[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia.

So, you were warned multiple times by multiple editors about changing historical city names and you were warned about disruptive editing. You were blocked for a week, and after your block has expired, you've gone right back to the same disruptive editing. This is likely your last warning to cease. If you continue, you'll most likely be permanently blocked. Cheers. --Griboski (talk) 22:32, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The names you have written are not ‘historical’ but rather unsourced Serbian version. I will take this case to higher up and discuss this since you’re the reverting place names with no credible source. Therandas (talk) 20:59, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
