November Articles for creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello BD2412:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:23, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Concern regarding Draft:Ancient India

[edit]

Information icon Hello, BD2412. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Ancient India, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 05:05, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Request

[edit]

I've started a revamp of Wikipedia:Tools/Optimum tool set.

Please take a look and let me know if there are any essential techniques or must have tools that you think should be included.

Thank you.

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:28, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

  • @The Transhumanist: I think it is worth noting that AWB can also be used to create new articles from a list of redlinks, if you have database information to incorporate into them. BD2412 T 02:25, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
    • "Worth nothing", or "worth noting"? Also, what did you mean by "have database information to incorporate into them"? Thanks for the input, and I look forward to your clarifications.    — The Transhumanist   02:34, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
      • Fixed! Worth noting. I mean if you have some basic information to create a set of articles with content and a source. BD2412 T 02:39, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Your recent edit of Astrological sign contained a wiki syntax error in the Hat Group. The rest of your edit was so useful (thank you) that I corrected rather than reverted. Please audit my corrections. OrewaTel (talk) 20:49, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@OrewaTel: Your edit is correct. The error appears to have been introduced by a bug in WP:AWB, which I will bring up on their message-board. BD2412 T 01:25, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Primary meaning of the character is the character

[edit]

Hi BD2412,

I see you systematically made WP:RLOTE of Kangxi radicals the primary redirects to their radical meaning. It's generally preferred while they're actually not characters themselves but radicals of characters (similar to affixes of words) and in rare cases, they might not be the primary topic as a radical, if they can also be the characters. Comparing with -ing, an English suffix who has its own article while doesn't hold the primary topic at Ing. NmWTfs85lXusaybq (talk) 03:28, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

That sounds like something I would have done at some point. It's been a while since I worked on those, though. BD2412 T 03:32, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Why???

[edit]
Whack!
You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know you did something silly.

I love the fact that not only did you feel the need the need to cite this, but you chose an academic source instead of an encyclopedia entry or the like Mach61 (talk) 03:57, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Am I being trouted for providing a valid source for a point that arguably does not require a source? BD2412 T 04:00, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes. Mach61 (talk) 04:25, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
It would be a very interesting argument that comes to the conclusion that the citation was not required. I would love to hear it. OrewaTel (talk) 06:04, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Question re my great-great-granddad

[edit]

In this edit you indicate that judge Richard F. Lyon (judge) retired, but the article on him says he lost the election to Dawson A. Walker. Do you have clear source on this, so we can make it consistent? Dicklyon (talk) 16:25, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

  • @Dicklyon: You are entirely correct. I rather hastily misread the first paragraph of the source, which actually goes into extensive detail later on about the series of votes that resulted in this outcome. BD2412 T 16:58, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
    • Thanks, great source! Except they call him "Lyons", an error that I still get plenty of these days, as that name is about 10X more common than Lyon. Dicklyon (talk) 17:26, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

DRV close

[edit]

Hi there, Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2023 November 18 is closed as consensus to refund to draftspace. Before I undelete Draft:Alex Zhavoronkov, are there any particular versions of Alex Zhavoronkov that you believe should also be refunded to draftspace in the history? Happy to be guided by you on the detail here, as you have (judging by deletion log) had one go at 'cleaning up the edit history'. Cheers, Daniel (talk) 10:43, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

  • @Daniel: Thanks for asking! To retain the most correct course of the edit history, I would suggest restoring Draft:Alex Zhavoronkov first, then moving it over the mainspace article, then restoring the old history underneath, then moving the entirety back to draft without a redirect. I will be all set from there. Cheers! BD2412 T 13:02, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
    • Should be all done (I did it by moving the article to draftspace first then undeleting the draftspace history, but should hopefully have achieved the same goal). Cheers, Daniel (talk) 18:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
      • That works, thanks again. BD2412 T 19:35, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Undrafting?

[edit]

I noticed you "undrafted" / removed from draftspace the drafts on the Delaware Supreme Court judges - I am wondering why did you do this / what does it mean? I found the drafts kind of helpful whenever I wanted to do one of them as they usually had some useful starter information. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:43, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

The ones that I removed are the Colonial-era judges, who likely do not meet the threshold of presumed notability afforded to state supreme court judges, and for whom I have not been able to find anything of use to otherwise demonstrate notability. We still have drafts for seven Delaware state supreme court justices. BD2412 T 01:30, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
Colonial-era members are not given the NJUDGE pass that post-Colonial-era ones are? Wasn't aware of that. Though I'd bet there's some coverage on some of them; I have a few resources and books on historical Delaware people, so I'll check to see if any of them are covered. BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:39, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
WP:NJUDGE by its terms applies to countries and states. I suppose an argument could be made for colonies. Feel free to work on these in my userspace. I would prefer not to have them in my queue to maintain as drafts when it I have had such a hard time finding/confirming basic biographical information. BD2412 T 01:45, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Ancient India

[edit]

Hello, BD2412. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Ancient India".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Edward I move request

[edit]

Hi, BD2412. Thank you for taking the time to go through that long-winded discussion. I do not wish to rehash the discussion, but would much appreciate if you could tell me which points of policy the opposing side correctly cited. It might help me formulate next requests. Surtsicna (talk) 17:05, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Where policy points were raised in the discussion itself, you argued with those raising them that the points had been refuted. I expect that any further citation to the policies raised, of which you are clearly already aware, would be met with a similar assertion of refutation. BD2412 T 17:27, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
I am curious whether you believe those points to have been refuted. You said both sides cited policy correctly but I fail to see how two very different interpretations of e.g. WP:RECOGNIZABILITY can both be correct. Surtsicna (talk) 20:51, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
You are here to rehash the discussion, then. WP:RECOGNIZABILITY is not a binary switch to be flipped. It is a matter of degree, and reasonable people can disagree as to the degree that a subject is recognizable. With respect to recognizability of ambiguous topics, titling must take into account how recognizable a title will be to readers most familiar with other uses of the same name. This is the persuasive case that needed to be made to those opposing the move in the discussion. BD2412 T 20:56, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
No, I am here seeking clarity that should have been provided in the closing comment. Those opposing the move made no link between ambiguity and recognizability. It was instead argued that "naming the kingdom increases recognizability" because "not everybody will know that there was no Richard II of Scotland". That argument is precisely the opposite of the one you are making now: WP:RECOGNIZABILITY was cited as the reason for disambiguating existing topics from non-existing uses of the same name. Surtsicna (talk) 21:26, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
As I said, you are here to rehash the discussion. As you clearly disagree with the close, please proceed to WP:MR. BD2412 T 21:27, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
I'd like to see a move review for this too. I get that the numbers were evenly split, but the oppose votes were so flawed they should have been discounted. WP:NCROY, for instance, was repeatedly misquoted and misinterpreted. – bradv 22:23, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
It just never ends, does it? Does everything have to be so drawn out and painful? It's been a month since the RM opened. If there was a consensus, it would have formed by now. It didn't. There wasn't. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 15:44, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the close, BD2412. Anyways, I think RMs concerning 'monarch' pages, should be limited to 'one' per month. GoodDay (talk) 22:45, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Quick question

[edit]

A user who was blocked because they used their real name (celebrity) as their user name wants to re-register under a pseudonym. I imagine their IP address might be part of that block, so how can they create a pseudonym without appearing as a block evader? I cannot divulge the name publicly but my advice to them was to not register under their real name; rather, they should register under a pseudonym instead. I am 100% open to your suggestions. Atsme 💬 📧 22:08, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

That is a novel question - I would rather expect that they would appeal the block with an OTRS ticket demonstrating their claimed identity, but I frankly doubt that their IP address is blocked such that they can't create a new account. We rarely block IP addresses unless the edits as an IP are themselves the problem. BD2412 T 22:21, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Exactly, but there are situations that VRT cannot be 100% certain in today's digital age. I know that WMF actually prefers pseudonyms rather than one's RL id for the sake of privacy/safety. I also want to make sure the user understands COI, and that by registering under a pseudonym, they cannot edit their own BLP or other related areas where a COI might exist. Just needed to confirm. Thank you, BD2412! Atsme 💬 📧 22:52, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Non-notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Disruptive editing on Jackson child abuse allegations page

He made more than 60 edits in about 24 hours, using questionable sources, primary sources or no sources at all, replaced the lead without consensus, rewrote the section headers, frankly created a mess of the Safechuck/Robson section with redundant content and one-sided citations of primary sources. Particularly I'd like to know how I could refine the list to produce better results. What do you think? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:01, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Glad to work on it. Right off the bat I am seeing some question marks. Many of the titles suggested for "Race and ethnicity in the United States census" are broader than that target, and there are many other examples, like Top Ten Films suggested for National Board of Review: Top Ten Films, Traditional district suggested for Districts of Norway, and Census Area suggested for List of boroughs and census areas in Alaska. BD2412 T 17:16, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
I noticed that too. I think it's because there are a lot of towns with formulaic links. E.g. Metro Detroit:
As of the census of 2010, there were 4,296,250 people, 1,682,111 households, and 1,110,454 families residing within the metropolitan statistical area. The census reported 70.1% White, 22.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 3.3% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.2% of the population. Arab Americans were at least 4.7% of the region's population (considered white in the US Census).

From the link other races, the target Race (United States Census) is resolved to Race and ethnicity in the United States census.
Essentially every article on a town in America has a link like this, which is why it is suggested at the top.
Hopefully if I do a full run the vaguer suggestions like this will be filtered out more. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:27, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
Thoughts from a quick glance:
Other races - previously deleted at RfD
Eastern (EST) - seems reasonable
Central (CST) - seems reasonable
Black or African American - this is a classic WP:XY, and the census isn't the only use of this term (and the list wants two different targets for the same redirect)
Other/Mixed - too vague
Racial makeup - too vague. Race (human categorization) would be a better target
Mountain (MST) - seems reasonable
Mixed Race/Multi-Racial - too vague. If this points anywhere it should go to Multiracial people
ZIP code(s) - not exactly useful but harmless
Mixed/Multi-Racial - too vague, see above
Same-sex married couples or partnerships - Same-sex marriage would be a better target
"Opposite-sex married couples" - Heterosexuality (where Opposite-sex marriage redirects) would be a better target
Pacific (PST) - seems fine
GNIS ID - slightly awkward but harmless
Eastern (EDT) - seems fine
715 & 534 - is this really the only use of these two numbers together?
Pre-Julian Roman calendar - seems fine but I would point to the specific section Roman calendar#History
2013 gubernatorial election - too vague
2009 gubernatorial election - too vague
Some other race - too vague
Order of precedence of the United States - seems fine
Home rule-class city - It seems unlikely Kentucky is the only use of this, therefore too vague
State rep. - too vague
Alaska (AKST) - seems fine
Two or more races/Multiracial - too vague, see above
U.S. Decennial Census - seems fine
2011 Census - too vague
The Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music - seems fine
Census of 2020 - should point to the dab page 2020 census instead
539/918 - see above
Of two or more races - too vague, see above
OS grid reference - seems fine
Top Ten Films - too vague, should point to List of films considered the best instead
Traditional district - too vague
Census Area - too vague. Census block would be a slightly better target
Formally described - seems fine
Hispanics or Latinos - seems fine
Debow, James Dunwoody Brownson - seems fine
HDRO (Human Development Report Office) - it baffles me why people have piped to this title so may times. Given that I guess a redirect is fine, but some others would disagree.
Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs - seems fine
910, 472 - too vague
Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures - seems fine
Tenth edition - too vague
Best Motion Picture – Drama - on the vague side but probably OK
610 and 484 - too vague
Royal resolution - ???
937, 326 - too vague
301, 240 - too vague
860/959 - too vague
Described - too vague (description might work instead)
Bowen, Francis - seems fine
Dialing code - why specifically the netherlands and not telephone number?
Mixed/multiracial - see above
(of ) - too vague and listed twice with two different targets
Hawaii-Aleutian - seems fine
Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture - same as above
Best Director – Motion Picture - same as above
803, 839 - too vague
Primary economic sector - seems fine
208, 986 - too vague
Phoenix–Sky Harbor - on the vague side but probably fine
442/760 - too vague
Modern day Kansas - odd, I would probably point to Kansas instead
Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture - same as above
Titsingh, Isaac. - not plausible with the period IMO
2000–01 - too vague
2002–03 - too vague
2005–06 - too vague
270 & 364 - too vague
Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama - same as above
Incorporated (town) - I guess this makes sense
Commodore-Governor of Newfoundland - is this the same thing?
2001–02 - too vague
Area code(s) - seems fine
Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama - same as above
205, 659 - too vague
China Standard - too vague
Japanese Imperial kamon - seems fine
Of the body - too vague
2003–04 - too vague
631, 934 - too vague
2006–07 - too vague
Kansas State High School - not the right target for this
Department number - too vague
Dubai–International - I guess this makes sense
Knight of the Black Eagle - seems fine
NAMM Oral History Collection - seems fine
1998–99 - too vague
Best Screenplay – Motion Picture - same as above
"dry" - oddly formatted, not useful
Nebraska license plate system - seems fine
21 inch (533 mm) - too vague/awkward/redundant
843, 854 - too vague
Boulenger GA - Odd formatting but probably fine
Ponsonby-Fane, Richard Arthur Brabazon - seems fine
Census of 2000 - should point to the dab page 2000 census instead
Developing/Emerging - too vague
Selectman-town meeting - WP:XY, why not town meeting
There seems to be far more chaff than wheat here. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:32, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
Pppery, I'm not too worried about the incorrect suggestions. I was intending something like WP:CTIOC - as long as a decent portion of the suggestions are valid, it's alright. After all, these will be subject to human review. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:35, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Rehra, Peter requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. BD2412bot and OW

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve found a few IP user pages where BD2412bot replaced OW with Blanked IP talk in August 2022. Given that they’re user pages rather than talk pages, OW seems more appropriate to me, so I’m planning to change the latter back to the former. This was obviously a little while ago now, but I just wanted to let you know given as I’ll be undoing edits made by the bot.

Also, while I’m here, could I ask what the reason for deleting User:203.124.2.14/Testimonial was? The fact that it’s linked from an old version of an IP userpage makes me think it might have been worth preserving for historical purposes.

All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 13:39, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

@A smart kitten: Yes, please go ahead with the recommended substitutions. The history of the deleted subpage was a single edit in 2006, stating:

It all started in 2005.I, as Tdxiang, an editor.

Sometimes, the account automatically logged out, therefore exposing my IP.Furthermore, the IP was shared under Singnet and that was why cases of vandalism popped up.

Tan DX 08:45, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I see no encyclopedic value in the maintenance of such a message (the IP itself has been dormant since September 2005). Perhaps User:Tdxiang will have a different perspective. BD2412 T 13:52, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

I wouldn't think so. If I though it did, I would move it. BD2412 T 17:10, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

PolBot's FJC subpages

[edit]

Hello, BD2412,

An editor, Arcendeight, was very active on PolBot pages and now Category:Bot-created FJC subpages needing delete action is filled up. Can I safely delete these pages? I would gather from the page instructions that I can do this but given that this was a rush of editing activity just done today and you are familiar with articles on judges and lawyers, you would know what to do. I'm not familiar with the work of PolBot, which ended over a decade ago and its operator, Quadell, hasn't been active for almost a year. Thanks for any feedback you can provide. Liz Read! Talk! 01:19, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

@Liz: Yes indeed. Those are a relic from another time. Let me know if you need help with the deletion task. BD2412 T 01:21, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Done That's exactly what I needed to know. I'll leave the category page for now. It's amazing that we have a relatively new editor who set about following up on these old PolBot pages. I wonder how they came upon them in the first place! Liz Read! Talk! 02:56, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Happy New Year!
Hello BD2412:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.
