Split?

[edit]

I think that each Persona game should get it's own page, it would make this article much easier to read.

Agreed. --Delf 20:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I made a page for Persona 2 by simply copying the text from this page. New User 14:40, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the fact that the official title of the game has been retconned to Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, it seems odd that Revelations: Persona should remain as the official Wiki artile title. Imagine my surprise when I typed in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona into the search bar and was actually redirected to this page.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.188.183.7 (talkcontribs) 17:31, 13 October 2009
It's all in Talk:Shin_Megami_Tensei:_Persona#Merge_discussion. — Blue 17:38, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First, the official title wasn't "retconned"; it's a remake with a new name. Perhaps we can tweak the lead sentence to include Shin Megami Tensei: Persona in bold print, so as to make it clear that this article is about both games. Second, consider the following about each game:
  • There isn't a lot of background information on Revelations: Persona, and finding non-print sources for reviews is a bit tricky. So you have the gameplay and story, the localization, and some critical reception.
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona is more or less the same in terms of gameplay and story. Many of the minute differences aren't important enough to be detailed here. There is new music, and the localization is new, and there is new reception for the game, though.
The current article covers both games, and is only about medium-length. To separate the two would be to create two shorter articles. Really, when you get down to it, the PSP remake is just a laundry list of major changes: graphics, music, gameplay, translation. There's not enough to say about it for it to merit its own article. --gakon5 (talk) 19:57, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Caucasian?

[edit]

Regarding the following line: "and the changing of Mark from a freckled Caucasian boy to a token African American character with somewhat offensively stereotypical dialogue" - Mark wasn't ever caucasian -- he was Asian, like the rest of the cast. --McDohl 07:47, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also those aren't freckles... they're some kind of face paint or tattoos (not likely) ... think painting a black tear on your face only weirder (yes I realize it's 2011)--12.213.80.36 (talk) 04:10, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement.

[edit]

I've improved the first Persona's section. I'll do the same for Innocent Sin, Eternal Punishment, and will add the third title information! --Delf 20:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added the two missing playable characters. If you could add the original Japanese names. --Knofbath 20:36, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Johnnyfog, I think it's good to move the characters section to a new page like List of Persona 2 characters. The article title could be List of Revelation Persona characters or List of Persona 1 characters. -- Sameboat - 同舟 04:08, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"like" stuff

[edit]

I got here since the article was listed at WP:CVG/A I read it and found that to get B class, you have to explain the gameplay better, atm it just says "like in that game", which doesnt tell you much, then sometimes the stuff is too detailed.

Try to make that it only contains stuff, which a person not playing/considering to play the game would want to know. Ill just quote a part from the article here:

In the Fusion menu, a color icon determines how compatible each pair of demons are:
A red icon warns that the pair of demons are incompatible, and are in danger of resulting
in a failed Fusion. A white icon indicates that the demons are of average compatability,
and no complications will arise. Finally, a blue icon indicates that the demons are very
compatible, and may produce an enhanced Persona with favourable spells and/or attributes."

This is a typical sentence/part that a non player would not want to know, so try to not include such parts. Also read WP:SS..

Hope that helps ;) Yzmo talk 15:57, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to rate this start class, but it can get to B/GA with some work. Some notes;

  • Rather than using external links in the article text, use these as references (in the infobox, lead, etc.)
  • "is the first in a series of role-playing games for PlayStation consoles – one of several spin-off series within developer Atlus' Megami Tensei franchise. " - this doesn't really make any sense...
  • The lead could talk about reception etc. so that it fully discusses the article
  • Rename the "Revelations: Persona" to something like "Gameplay"
  • "The main character, Mary, and Nate battle a horde of zombies." - don't need bold here
  • The "Game mechanics" section is slightly long and crufty. Remember to summarise.
  • "See also" not really needed - instead create an article for the series

If you have any questions, leave a note on my talk page. Cheers, Dihydrogen Monoxide (party) 05:13, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Considering the Biblical motif of past games, including in the titles, would not "Goddess Apocrypha: Persona" be a closer translation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr Rubino (talkcontribs) 13:56, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Remake coming to NA

Gameplay section

[edit]

Looks like the gameplay section is still disorganised and overly detailed. I'll see if I can help it a bit. Feel free to comment on any changes. 145.99.155.53 (talk) 21:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mark

[edit]

A quick note on why I reverted the edit by 72.39.61.241; Mark is also called Mark in the Japanese version of the game, but in there it's just a nickname. The real reason I changed it back however is for consistency with the rest of the article, which refers to the characters by their names from the NA release. Boksha (talk) 02:16, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Putting both boxes in the infobox

[edit]

Besides making that part of the article look less cluttered (at least in my opinion), putting both the PS1 and PSP box art in the infobox would allow us to more explicitly say "Look, this article is about both games." --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 04:09, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We're suppose to avoid putting multiple images into the Infobox, per WP:FUC #3.
And per WP:BOLDTITLE, only the article's subject is boldface. Since the article title right now is "Revelations: Persona", that should be the only bold title. — Blue 02:13, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The aim was to make it obvious that this article is about both games. I was working on an elaborate rebuttal to your WP:FUC #3; instead, if we can concede that the two or three guys on this talk page who said these games should have separate articles, should not sway this article's design, then I'm fine with moving the image back and not having "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona" in bold. I would hope people who know anything about this remake know what Rev: Persona is and are smart enough to infer that this article is about both games. With regards to FUC #3, though, I don't think it fits. As cover art, it is still being used for identification and critical commentary, and I see nothing on WP:FUC or WP:NFC with regards to templates. I just know at some point they told everyone to stop using FU images as decoration in navboxes. --gakon5 (talk / contribs) 02:33, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Development --> Localization changes

[edit]

i think it would be more appropriate for the header to be changed to localization changes rather than development since it focused purely on the differences between the american, japanese, ps1, and psp versions.

also through some research it seems that the original japanese ps1 version had characters which had dark hair and light skin because they were all supposed to be asian. it was ONLY for the NA PS1 version that they decided to change the appearance of many of the characters to make it more "american" and diverse, thats why the main character became a redhead, mark turned to a black kid, ellen became a blonde, nate's hair turned brown. they used it to justify that it was an american school.

however for the psp remake as with most remakes they wanted it to be more like the ORIGINAL, so that meant like the original japanese ps1 version where all the characters were asian. --24.16.19.72 (talk) 11:03, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Persona sprites

[edit]

A screenshot including a Persona sprite in action would be nice. The artwork for the Personae composition wise is probably as close to something that looks like fine-art to ever appear in a video game / the best Atlus has ever produced (IMO) --72.173.160.58 (talk) 04:07, 4 May 2011 (UTC)--72.173.160.58 (talk) 04:07, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • You should wikilink parlour game
  • While playing a parlor game, the group come to the realm of Philemon - should specify that it is a fortune-telling game.
  • the group come to the realm of Philemon, a benevolent being representing humanity's subconscious who grants them the ability to summon the multiple selves within them - , who grants them the ability
  • but also drew mixed to negative comments for its by-then dated mechanics and graphics. - negative, not mixed
  • Persona is a role-playing video game where the player - Should be "Revelations: Persona" is a role-playing game.
  • where the player takes control of a group of high school students. - Personal opinion, not compulsory, I prefer "in which" instead of "where"
  • If the player attacks an enemy from behind, the party is given a set of free attacks - I do not understand what this means
  • with characters an enemies moving according to their position on the grid. - "and", not "an"
  • beings summoned into battle to cast a spell that can heal the party, and inflict physical or elemental damage on an enemy. - should be in plural form "spells", "enemies", unless the Persona can only be used once.
  • Wikilink experience points
  • Experience is awarded based on how much the player uses certain characters or Personas - If it is talking about frequency, it should be "how often the player uses certain characters"
  • Talking to an enemy has different effects based on the demon's personality - All enemies in the game are demons?
  • the character Igor can summon new Personas from among the various enemies defeated for a fee. - Wikilink Igor
  • He can also use two spell cards along with a special item to create a new Persona, which can inherit skills from its parents. - what parents?
  • the players have the option of recruiting Reiji Kido - Should be "The player has"
  • The game opens with the protagonist, along with schoolmates Hidehiko - should be "Starts" instead of "opens"
  • After playing the game, the group see a ghostly figure, and the protagonist - But the lead said that happened when they are playing the game, not after.
  • The protagonist is then drawn into the realm of Philemon, and after the main character states his name - "and after the main character states his name" is not really relevant.
  • The lead sounds like the four go to the realm together, while the plot section sounds like that only the silent protagonist enters the realm
  • and after meeting up with Eriko, head to the town's Ayama Shrine to find Maki's mother Setsuko - "they" head to the town's
  • Where did the demons come from? The SEBEC created them? Kandori does not sound like a villain in the plot section at all.
  • then asked by Nanjo to help save a captured Masao from demons. - Rephrase it to "to save Masco, who is captured by demons"
  • Persona began development - Rephrase it to "The development of Revelations: Persona began in"
  • When was Shin Megami Tensei if.... completed?
  • to the Megami Tensei - to the Megami Tensei "series"
  • The Persona system was directly inspired by the similar Guardian system used in if... - "similar" is redundant
  • The first draft involved the students going on a field trip and being caught in mysterious events and fights with students from other schools, and was one of the more fondly-remembered versions - Too much "and". You should split it into two sentences
  • Kaneko and other team members focusing on Persona resulted in development on Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne coming to a near-halt - Rephrase it to "The team's focusing on Persona resulted in development on Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne coming to a near-halt"
  • Information about Philemon, Jungian psychology and The Velvet Room should come first, and should be followed by information about Maki
  • After release, many players were unsure about the pronunciation of "Philemon", quite often misreading the name as "Pheromone" - Not relevant
  • Persona was the first role-playing entry in the Megami Tensei series to be released in the west - Is there any other game in the series that is not a role-playing game?
  • The changes made to character names and appearances were all changed to how they appeared in the original Japanese release, - Were all changed "back" to how they appeared in the original.
  • with the exception of a couple of lines that had become fan favorites - They changed the dialogue as well? Is "that had become fan favorites" original research
  • Both Tsuchiya and Meguro would be involved in later Persona and Megami Tensei titles - Not really related to the game's development
  • Tracklistings are not necessary
  • You can wikilink Jeff Gerstmann and Famitsu
  • IGN, in a fairly short review, called the game "an RPG masterpiece" - "in a fairly short review" sounds like personal opinion
  • I think that when you are talking about this game, you should use Revelations: Persona instead of simply Persona.
  • Jeremy Parish, writing for 1UP.com, said that the way Persona broke away from RPG norms through the communication with demons during battle made it essential playing for fans of the genre, and was generally positive about most aspects apart from its visuals - Split it into two separate sentences
  • inability to appreciate character and enemies due to their sprite size - Should be "appreciate characters and enemies appearances" due to their "small" sprite size.
  • which released in 1999 - which "was" released in 1999

A great article, but some small issues need fixing. Some sentences sometimes feel too long, and that affects readability. AdrianGamer (talk) 07:24, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've attended to all the issues above, with one slight exception that I will explain. The use of Persona as opposed to alternate uses of Revelations: Persona and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona was not just a stylistic choice. Persona is what the game is generally called by Altus staff in cited interviews, and multiple video game journalists in reviews and news features. But I have tried to make sure there is a clear definition as to which version of Persona is being referred to in any given sentence of paragraph. Oh, and yes, in the Gamasutra interview it was said that dialogue was changed and that for the remake some fan favorite line were left in deliberately. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:05, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
