Official Box Art

Release Date as November 28th
[edit]A release date of November 28th has been added my someone, citing a source form Play.com The Release date is cited at Nintendo.com for the 16th of November. Nintendo is definitely more reliable than Play.com, so I think that the release date shouldn't have the 28th anywhere on it. Any thoughts? Johnnywalterboy (talk) 22:18, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Nintendo said the release would be 3rd to 16 of November although it is subject to change. --Knowlege: Life's greatest gift, or terrible curse, how do you use it...? (talk) 16:47, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Animal Crossing™: City Folk: This game lets you live your life in a virtual community that's all your own. You can interact with the fun characters in your town, customize everything from your house to your clothing and even chat with other friends in the game using the Wii Speak. Animal Crossing: City Folk launches on Nov. 16.
- I got the above quote from Animal Crossing Community, which is a source for Official Nintendo press info. So now we have a release date, right?
- ↑ChronaMew↓ ~Talk~Contributions 04:50, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

WiiConnect24, "Sleep-mode" and town visiting - source does not confirm!
[edit]"Players can also put their Wii in sleep-mode and let other players visit their town, regardless if the town's owner is actually playing at the time of the visit."
I don't approve of this feature, it should be made optional, because if people can gain access to someone's town, they can destroy it, like around midnight. Unless there's an option such as "Town Restore" to restore the town to it's state before person(s) came to so-and-so's town. Some good features of Idle-Wi-Fi, would be, say you, A forgot a gold tool at B's town, B could come over, and drop it near your house, with a tag of "Only A can pick this item up" 24.167.98.156 - talk
The source given is this, and I cannot see any mention of the above included. It only mentions WiiConnect24 being used for the separate "city" area. - 78.143.208.218 (talk) 19:10, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
The fact you don't approve isn't what the talk pages are for. Sorry I don't mean to be rude. It's true though.Lavinder111 (talk) 18:43, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Furniture decoration?
[edit]It says on the Animal Crossing wiki, (which doesn't, honestly seem too reliable) that you will be able to decorate furnature in this game. I haven't heard this anywhere yet and I can't track down any of the authors to find out where this fact comes from. Can anybody confirm/deny/give more info on this? -AtionSong 21:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
-I believe that came from a Katsuya Eguchi interview. Based on the interview, it was just discussion of the idea - not concrete evidence that it will be a feature in the game. - 4.154.88.12 22:44, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
It is not true. You can create your own paintings, tops, hats, umbrellas, carpets, wallpaper and outdoor foot mats.Lavinder111 (talk) 18:46, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
Release date
[edit]I removed the EGM release date info claiming it to be Fall 2007. Over on the Smash Bros. Brawl page, the editors decided it wasn't reliable enough, so for consistancy, I removed it here too. Please do not put up tentative dates without a source confirmed by Nintendo. 199.126.137.209 18:50, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Do not claim to do edits that I had already done.
Someone put that the game would be released in late September. I'd like to know where you found that because everywhere I've seen it says that it will be released in Japan first and it doesn't seem to be coming out soon. 68.34.249.35 20:57, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Miis

2007 Release Date
[edit]It has been revealed at a NoJ conference with retailers that Animal Crossing will be coming out in Japan in 2007. There are several reports confirming this. Why does this keep getting reverted from the main article? Thores 02:17, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Because it isn't referenced. Reference it and it can stay. Cipher (Talk to the hand) 19:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

- We need to put that as the Japan release date, as most games aren't released at the exact same time, and there is no confirmed North American Release P.Shack 00:44, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Animal Crossing Wii 'mentioned' in Operations Manual.

Club Nintendo Calender
[edit]I removed some info about a December launch time, a piece of info that was derived from a Club Nintendo calender. Just for clarification's sake, the calender says nothing about the Animal Crossing Wii release date. As I understand it, the December release time frame was inferred from the fact that Animal Crossing is used as a theme for that month and that Mario Kart is the theme for the month of April (Mario Kart Wii launches April worldwide). This pattern does not hold up to much scrutiny, as January has Mario Galaxy as its theme. If my reasoning is wrong, or if there's some other pertinent info that Club Nintendo (or anyone else for the matter) released, feel free to correct me. Entitled (talk) 03:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
June 27
[edit]IGN has this game listed under a 27/6/08 release date. IGN is a reliable source so it should be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.102.73 (talk) 12:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wrong. In addition to the fact that it's already June 30th, why would there be barely any information on a game that would be released in two months? You'd think we'd at least have a screenshot, right? Plus, game sites/stores often list fake release dates to keep users/customers entertained. Picture
[edit]What is with the picture used on the article? It looks like someone was playing on paint and pasted the Animal Crossing Logo. I think it should be removed and we should wait for box-art to be released. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.243.108.87 (talk) 19:27, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's a picture of text, and under US law (see commons:Image:PD-textlogo), such a picture isn't copyrightable unless the text itself is copyrightable. A homemade logo created from the non-free GameCube or DS box art would not pass Wikipedia's criterion 4 of already having been published. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 14:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Too far divided
[edit]The page has been divided far too thinly. Instead of having multiple seperate sections of one or two sentences a piece, it would look better if the article was just a basic summary of what we know until we have more information to organize in such a manner. Right now it just looks very lacking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.98.95 (talk) 06:12, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I see your point. I've cleaned it up a bit! Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. 07:46, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've rewritten some and reorganized the page. The recent changes (i.e. splitting everything into tiny sections, and then the subsequent removal of sub-section headers), though all well intended, left the page in somewhat of a wreck. I did my best to fix it, though I'm willing to bet some info was lost when I made my edit. I'm in favor of not having tons of small sections, since as is mentioned above we don't have enough info to fill out lots of sections yet, but I'll leave it up to consensus. At any rate, the page was too much of a mess for me to leave it as is. Note about my edit: I intended the gameplay section, now currently labeled sectstub, to have a quick summary of animal crossing gameplay. I'll fill it in later if no one's done it by then. Also, I made a development section at the end, but I'm not confident that it should be there, or even exist. Entitled (talk) 10:47, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Meh, so how do you want it then?
[edit]Bleh so my layout wasn't good enough I take it? Guess I'll just stay out of everything for now then - I've got two whole threads in different languages to run anyway so if my work here isn't good enough, then go ahead and have it your way instead >< I don't feel like writing the same stuff over and over again just to see everything get erased.
You're all free to visit this thread at any time to update yourself on what's new in this installment of the series. I'll be sure to come here again later this week and see too it that you've got everything right. Over and out. ConraDargo (talk) 11:06, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
It isn't that your layout wasn't good enough or anything, it's just better suited for an article with much more available information to write about. It would be best to wait until we get closer to the game's release and have more to fill the sections with than to just have a very empty-looking page. 71.190.98.95 (talk) 22:53, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I for one would say that the New element section is too cluttered as it is now, with all the new features that we know of - especially if you go into detail like just how the new auction house works and characters such as the shoe-shiner boy. But I'll let you decide. If someone still haven't summarized all the new features until next Monday then I might step in and try and do something about it. Until then I'll continue with my two threads instead (have a look for yourself and you'll see that quite a lot of beans have already been spilled about this game). Development Section
[edit]Hello. I'm a contributor to a Wiki hosted by Wikia, and I recently wrote about the development of this video game. Since it is my work, am I free under Wikipedia and Wikia rules to merge it with Wikipedia's development section or must I rewrite it first? Category:Cancelled GameCube games
[edit]A Link to the Past (talk · contribs) keeps adding Category:Cancelled GameCube games to the article on the suspicion that CITY FOLK is the same game as Animal Crossing 2. It's equally likely that the codebase that would have been AC 2 became Animal Crossing: Wild World, and I can show evidence from the dialogue of Wild World to support this (villager chat about Katrina and Blathers' having completed his paleontology course). So unless there is verifiable evidence from a reliable source that AC 2 was reworked into CITY FOLK and not Wild World, I propose leaving this article out of the category. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 17:58, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- That would make sense if ACWW wasn't in development at the same time. And an EGM way back in 2004 said that AC2 would have the ability to design your own furniture. - A Link to the Past (talk) 18:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- From the cat guideline:
- An article should normally possess all the referenced information necessary to demonstrate that it belongs in each of its categories. Avoid including categories in an article if the article itself doesn't adequately show it belongs there. For example, avoid placing a category for a profession or award unless the article provides some verification that the placement is accurate. Use the {{Category unsourced}} tag if the article is in a category but no sources demonstrate the category is appropriate.
- So feel free to put the category back once you have cited EGM and other reliable sources that connect AC 2 to CITY FOLK. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 19:41, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've seen no proof this game was originally meant for the GameCube. Animal Crossing 2 was apparently planned for GameCube, but there is no proof that City Folk was originally that game. We can't assume this game was previously going to come out for the GameCube. No original research or speculation. RobJ1981 (talk) 19:48, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

gc original?
[edit]the gc ac was not the original, there is a little known predecessor for an n64 port, called the n64 dd. it was only realeased in japan, and, because of poor sales, was discontinued shortly after launch. it included high resolution graphics and huge game cartridges. the ac n64 game was one of the most popular and, luckily, was brought back on gamecube —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.61.177.86 (talk) 23:24, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

- Oh, brother. Good job of not doing your homework, because Animal Forest =/= Animal Crossing. Animal Forest ONLY AVAILABLE in Japan, Animal Crossing available worldwide, and the cultural aspects from Animal Forest, ie Japanese holidays, jokes, etc, removed in Animal Crossing. Worldwide market versus Japanese market, different games. Animal Crossing was the first game of the series not aimed at a Japanese only market. [edit]It's already been revealed that the boxart we've seen is official! Why not post it instead of keeping the logo? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.150.120.98 (talk) 17:54, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Revealed where? As I understand it, we're waiting for a Nintendo controlled web site, such as nintendo.com or animal-crossing.com, to confirm it. Because the box art is non-free, we have to be extra careful that it is verifiable to solidify a claim of fair use. If you have a URL of a Nintendo web page where we can view the box art, I'd like to see it. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 21:08, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- There. Found it on Nintendo's press website. Here: http://press.nintendo.com/object?id=15673 and here: http://press.nintendo.com/object?id=16525. You need a username/password. User: holiday08 and pass: nintendo. GuitarWeeps (talk) 18:23, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
What In The World Happened To The Page?
[edit]The whole page is pretty much blank... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.54.185 (talk) 23:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- It was 70.126.54.141's idea to remove the Gameplay section. I'm assuming it had something to do with Wikipedia not being GameFAQs. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 17:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I "fixed" the page. No offense but the page looked like it was written by a 10 year old...it probably was. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.54.185 (talk) 00:06, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Motion controls?
[edit]"It has been announced that the game will feature a motion control for fishing, bug catching, and chopping down trees. This is an optional feature because those actions have been mapped to a certain button."
When was this confirmed? I have never heard this and the article does not cite a source for it.
NFreak007 (talk) 17:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I saw a screenshot of fishing but that's all that I know for SURE has motion control.
Tagged with {{weasel}}
[edit]A quick audit of the article shows quite a few fair weasel words and phrases, so I've tagged the article. Feel free to remove if you disagree or fix the article. - Madmikeuk needs more cowbell. 16:23, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
This Article Is Terribly Writen
[edit]It looks like a 10 year old wrote it. Don't write things like, "I hope it will have..." or "In a gameplay video on Youtube, I saw...." or "Of course, there's always things Nintendo doesn't tell us, so for all we know, there are more motion control movements." You're supposed to write about the game not what Nintendo won't tell you. This article should not involve you or any other people who play the game. I edited out most of it but this article needs to be fixed and we need to stop people from completely trashing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.54.185 (talk) 13:45, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. I'm thinking of tagging with {{cleanup}} rather than {{weasel}} - Madmikeuk needs more cowbell. 16:23, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
GameCube Controller support?
[edit]I just noticed that the article says Animal Crossing City Folk supports the GameCube controller under input methods. I can't seem to find any website that confirms this. Is it false information, or am I missing something? Zacplaysgames (talk) 16:59, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- They confirmed the GameCube controllers and Classic controllers don't work. Little kids and/or people who are totally immature that don't know how to spell constantly add what they hope will happen or they think will happen in the game without knowing any facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.54.185 (talk) 16:24, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Do you have a source for this? This was probably confirmed much earlier on, and I can't find a source supporting your claim that they will not work. --EveryDayJoe45 (talk) 00:53, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Canadian Release Date
[edit]I recently found out that Canada gets it on Monday the 17th, so I added the info on the page and inserted a reference. If anyone think it is poorly done or other wise, please fix it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.91.49.242 (talk) 14:48, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
That must be mistake on there website, as many Canadian retail sites have already said that they are avalible for purchase. Take Future Shop[3] for one and Best Buy. I do have a reserve on the game at EB games so I will be able to prove this.68.150.139.56 (talk) 14:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Many people said the Nintendo Canada website was inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.91.49.242 (talk) 04:35, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Also we generally don't include a seperate Canadian release date unless the game come comes out significantly later in canada. At least in Quebec games comming out a few days late is common. We do add a Canadian relase date for games such a Rock Band since that came out a month later. --70.24.179.142 (talk) 17:12, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Glitch in Australian Version - Exchanging Data between Wild World and City doesn't work
[edit]Is this worth a mention in the article, perhaps under the development section? So far the issue has yet to be unresolved and is likely to end in a recall. If you say no, remember the glitch in Super Paper Mario. And of course, here's the source. [4] Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.208.77.70 (talk) 13:43, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- If you can find a good spot in the article for that information, be bold and add it. Also, an update has been posted on your link with a contact number if you have that problem (presumably for a replacement disc). XMog (talk) 15:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Region locking?
[edit]Why doesn't this article tell whether the online mode is region locked, or whether it's possible to play with players from a different continent? Always the first thing I want to find out before I buy a new game... (20:56, 31 December 2008 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.237.226.234 (talk)
- The holiday calendar in the North American version's official tip book claims that North American players can visit towns in the European or Japanese version and see their holidays. So I'd guess that online play is region-free, unlike Wild World where Japan was segregated from the rest of the world due to character encoding differences. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 03:40, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
About hacked DLC...
[edit]Do you think anything should be mentioned about the hacked DLC that has been made? So far three items have been released: RedLightsabreV1, BlueLightsabreV1, and ShinyBluePikmin Hat. None of those names are typos on my part, that's how they are spelled. ----Companioncube31 (talk) 01:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC) Maybe...

To-do
[edit]I am adding this as I am not familiar with sourcing game articles - needs an update on selling figures, and also some discussion on how the online interaction with other towns is going. Has it been seen as a success or failure (we've tried doing it at our place but only one person to play with :( Casliber (talk · contribs) 22:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
everything-animal-crossing.com
[edit]71.62.65.104 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) added a link to http://everything-animal-crossing.com, a fan forum about the game, above one of Nintendo's official links, with no edit summary. ThomasO1989 (talk · contribs) and I took it off because I feel it fails criterion 10 at WP:ELNO. JimmyEAC (talk · contribs) appeared to disagree and undid the removals, also with no non-automatic edit summary. The two reverts are JimmyEAC's only edits. Anyone else care to comment? Is there perhaps a criterion under WP:ELMAYBE that I overlooked? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 02:28, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
sorry if editing this post is wrong, I'm new here. That site is my friends site... He thought that he should add a forum as it can offer support for people who don't know how to play the game. In the links to be avoided page it says
"There are several things that should be considered when adding an external link. Is the site content accessible to the reader? Is the site content proper in the context of the article (useful, tasteful, informative, factual, etc.)? Is the link functional and likely to remain functional? Each link should be considered on its merits, using the following guidelines. As the number of external links in an article grows longer, assessment should become stricter. When in doubt about the appropriateness of adding new links, make a suggestion on the article's talkpage and discuss with other editors."
That site has the content accessible for the reader.
The site is useful for this article, someone can ask for help and a real person that plays the game will answer there
The link is functional.
This site also allows for friend codes and items to be traded thus meaning this site should be kept as it can be a very helpful site for the average animal crossing player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JimmyEAC (talk • contribs) 23:25, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Forums are not encyclopedic sources. Wikipedia tells what the game is about and how it is played; links that tell people how to play the game better is game guide material and thus inappropriate for Wikipedia. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 00:53, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Literal translation
[edit]Whoever's changing the literal translation of "森" to "Crossing" needs to stop. Japanese is not affected by some company who may call its localization a different name, the literal translation of "mori" is "forest", that will never change no matter what Nintendo says!146.163.92.38 (talk) 21:44, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
