pace of archiving

Does this page get cleaned up a lot? It seems kind of empty. 92.235.168.144 (talk) 16:04, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

I think I am in agreement. I think the page is being archived too frequently. Bus stop (talk) 16:26, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

I cannot find the archives - or do you delete it ? So that means it is not a safe place to put possibly important information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.220.186.57 (talk) 18:35, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Live Performance

The Croatian newspaper source quoted as "local press" to infer that Winehouse was forced ontothe stage refers back to The Sun's story which was then quoted in other sources. There has been no clear photographic or video evidence published anywhere that Winehouse was physically forced onstage and this insinuation is wholly defamatory and should be removed. The allegation was obviously contentious If not ,at least for editorial balance a further sentence should be inserted (which appeared in the original articles where this story appeared..) " a spokesperson for Winehouse denied Kida's account of events, saying that the singer walked onstage voluntarily with a friend." .--87.194.236.47 (talk) --87.194.236.47 (talk) 16:20, 22 August 2011 (UTC)paul m

Death

Quoting from Mitch Winehouse's eulogy ,asif it was fact as to the last hours of the deceased life is suspect. Mitch Winehouse was out of the country at the time and therefore his account consists of partial hearsay.--87.194.236.47 (talk) 16:34, 22 August 2011 (UTC)pm 22/8/11

Even though I feel it makes it a harder read I added that Mitch was in New York and made sure to the best of my ability that the readers understand this is Mitch's account. In my humble opinion whether Mitch was in New York or London makes no difference as to the reliability of his account as even by his account he was not with her. But I am not going to delete the material because I do believe it meets the verifiable but not necessarily the truth and notability guidelines. That all being said I hope unlike some other rock star/celebrity death articles every time somebody writes a book claiming some conspiracy theory it does not end up in the article. Edkollin (talk) 17:15, 23 August 2011 (UTC).

Thank you. The article appears more objective because it is now explicit that the account is hearsay as opposed to eye witness and therefore leaves the reader in no doubt without having to search . For me it makes a difference to the reliability of the paragraph when readers are reading historically rather than with contemporaneous memory. It might ,with the Coroner's inquest being adjourned to October,be an idea to have a separate paragraph entitled "Eulogy" which could reflect that narrative. If something merely need to be verifiable and not the truth, one might question why the account of the drug dealer who claimed to sell Ms Winehouse drugs the night before she died has not been included? --87.194.236.47 (talk) 18:40, 23 August 2011 (UTC)PM

Rather than "Results of toxicology tests were released" as if implying an official document in totem was released into the public domain by Coroners' officials wouldn't the reader would be more accurately informed if the article reads that" The Winehouse family released a statement" etc?.--87.194.236.47 (talk) 18:54, 23 August 2011 (UTC).? pm

Yes, I think so. The source that was added (The Washington Post blog) omitted "who", and who should be the subject of the sentence. I'll try to fix that. Thanks. -SusanLesch (talk) 00:40, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Last night

Shouldn't the article mention that she was seen buying drugs on the night before her death? (92.7.21.173 (talk) 15:56, 9 March 2012 (UTC))

You're going to have to give a reliable source for that ((WP:RS). Not done. -SusanLesch (talk) 16:13, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

It was reported in every single newspaper, including the Telegraph. (92.7.21.173 (talk) 18:48, 9 March 2012 (UTC))

So provide a link to a reliable source that reports this as fact, rather than as the 'claims' of persons unknown. [1] "Toxicology tests showed there were no illegal substances in her system when she died". [2] AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:04, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Incidentally, for no very obvious reason, the Daily Mail 'article' I link above was included in the 'Further reading' section. I've removed it as unsourced tabloid nonsense. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:12, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

The Telegraph, the best and most reliable UK broadsheet newspaper, mentioned the story, so this article should as well. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/heartbroken-amy-winehouse-lost-boyfriend-buys-drugs-before-death-in-new-claims/story-e6frewyr-1226100939580 (92.7.21.173 (talk) 19:44, 9 March 2012 (UTC))

Garbage. The Telegraph did not report the story as factual; it reported that tabloids were making the claim based on anonymous sources. All those many people can't have been wrong. (92.7.21.173 (talk) 21:52, 9 March 2012 (UTC))

We don't base article content on what we think is right or wrong - though the coroner's report makes it clear these 'many people' were wrong - we base article content on what reliable sources say. Anonymous tabloid tittle-tattle isn't a reliable source. AndyTheGrump (talk) 22:00, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Amy Winehouse - other ventures

Hi,

I'd like to draw attention to the fact that Mitch Winehouse's forthcoming biography of Amy, 'Amy, My Daughter', isn't featured on this page. It's going to be published on 5th July 2012 in the UK by HarperCollins Publishers.

How would I go about adding this info in? I would think it'd be best placed in 'Other Ventures', as this is where the biography 'Saving Amy' is mentioned. Or perhaps in 'Final Projects', as an afterword to the 'Lioness' album being mentioned.

I read that the book features a good deal of personal memorabilia that Amy owned, so it's as close to an autobiography as we're going to get. Exciting - and saddening.

Typo on death date - Death paragraph

Under the death paragraph, page currently reads: One such relapse led to her death by alcohol intoxication in the morning hours of 23 July 2012.[185]

The page should read: One such relapse led to her death by alcohol intoxication in the morning hours of 23 July 2011.[185]

I would change, but it's locked due to vandalism...

On the night before her death

Shouldn't the article mention that various newspapers reported that Winehouse was seen buying drugs at 10:30 on the night before her death? http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/heartbroken-amy-winehouse-lost-boyfriend-buys-drugs-before-death-in-new-claims/story-e6frewyr-1226100939580 (92.7.20.126 (talk) 15:12, 28 July 2012 (UTC))

Charity Work

I think we should put stuff in about her charity work on this page. Amy Winehouse supported many charities throughout her short life. She was once named pop worlds most charitable act and was known as a soft touch among the charity community. There are hundreds of charities she donated to especially children's charities, she donated vast amounts of her wealth, time and her music to them. It should be mentioned under the personal life section, I think, as all this mentions is her bad stuff. I would add this myself but I can't edit as it is locked, fucking vandals they ruin it for the rest of us. I can add the links about her charity work if you think it should be added. --Zolfianyarvelling (talk) 17:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Further recordings

Other than the rare songs for her 3rd album, there are a few extra possible songs that could be released that wern't on her apparent final album. These are the cover versions of 4 songs, 3 of which were performed live on jools holland's xmas hootenanny show prior to 2010. The bbc also broadcast another cover song called monkey man. There is also a guitar solo version of 'no greater love' available via P2P.

Those songs are part of a new album [3] --Xaxlo (talk) 15:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Minor Additions

Just a few minor things that could be added; she played piano which is missing from the instrument section (see YouTube link). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1tpzBnbL04

Also, the 'Death' section makes mention of tributes; Patti Smith wrote the song 'This Is The Girl' as a tribute to Amy on her Banga album which seems noteworthy. Also, as mentioned above there's an "Amy Winehouse at the BBC" collection being released which may be worth including. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.143.198.23 (talk) 13:15, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Influence

Amy has inspired more than just Adele and Lady Gaga. She also inspired Emeli Sande, Florence Welch,6h Paloma Faith and Misha B as well as Rebecca Ferguson and Azaelia Banks. We should mention those people too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hatefem (talkcontribs) 09:15, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

God fucking wikipedia are DRIVING ME CRAZY. There are like seventeen interviews with the likes of Emeli Sande, Jessie J, Paloma Faith, and Misha B WHERE THEY MENTION Amy Winehouse's influence on them but each time I try to provide a link every single last one of them says "sorry this site is on wikipedia's blacklist". WHAT THE FUCK, the sites I go to are trustworthy the Emili Sande one is the BBC's website, where they actually have a recording of Emili Sande herself saying that Back to Black inspired her to be fearless in her songwriting. But I can't provide a link to it because of some stupid little rule. How do I get round that for Fucks sake how is anyone supposed to edit these things properly if we can't include vital information that has the most reliable sources because of a stupid fucking little rule.--Zolfianyarvelling (talk) 13:50, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding blacklisting, see Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for how it works. Regarding the particular links, without seeing them it is hard to say what the problem is, but the only reason I can think of for putting a BBC link on there is because of licensing concerns - they may not permit viewing video etc outside of the UK. Personally, I think that we'd be better off not including a performer as being 'influenced' without third party sources also suggesting that there actually was an influence. AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:34, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

I hear you and that probably is the problem with the BBC links. It is just so annoying though because it is actually a source that is completely trustworthy, it is a recording of Emeli Sande herself saying that Back to Black was a huge influence on her songwriting, it isn't just some critics observation that Emeli Sande sounds like Amy Winehouse it is Emeli Snade herself. You should be able to find it by simply typing in Amy Winehouse, Emeli Sande into google. The Paloma Faith, Jessie J and Misha B sources are also interviews or statements by these artists themselves the Sande one is the best as it is a speaking interview and not just written, though the other sources are still trustworthy. Misha B on her facebook page lists Amy as one of her influences. Amy is there in Misha's likes section alongside the other artists that have inspired her the most. Ironically many artists critics claim inspired Misha are not in there, but Amy is. Jessie J even dedicated her win at the Mobo's to Amy, whilst Paloma did a big massive tribute to her on her facebook page called Goodnight Amy, where she herself says Amy paved the way for her and all others like her. Its annoying all of these sources that are reliable going to waste. Also sorry about the swearing earlier I was having a bit of a hectic time I know that is no excuse but I am sorry anyway. I will try and find other sources but until then I guess you can delete what I wrote about her inspiring these women as I only wrote it as I thought I had the sources on hand. --Zolfianyarvelling (talk) 15:41, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Musical influence

Her "greatest love" was NOT girl groups from the '60s. She said many times in interviews that she started listening to soul and girl groups a year and half prior to the release of Back to Black. Her GREATEST LOVE and influence was always jazz, primarily Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington. She learned how to sing by imitating Dinah Washington. Iggy Ax (talk) 12:10, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Sinatra photo necessary?

I understand using the Ronettes photo to illustrate how their physical look inspired Winehouse, but I don't see the point from an image use perspective of including a photo of Frank Sinatra. 70.72.221.229 (talk) 15:08, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I agree; it seems unnecessary. Ulmanor (talk) 19:50, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Amy Winehouse was scheduled to appear as the headline act at the Paléo music festival in Nyon, Switzerland, on Saturday the 23rd July 2011 but she was found dead at her home on the morning of that day. Excessive moralizing

One of the criticisms that prevented this article from reaching good article status is the length of the controversy and personal life sections. In an attempt to trim these, I've cut this part out of controversy as I feel that it's not completely honest about the media frenzy around this woman: tabloids competed to get the most controversial stuff out as quickly as possible to sell papers. Hope others agree.--Aichik (talk) 14:31, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Speaking at a discussion titled "Winehouse or White House?: Do we go too big on showbiz news?" Jeff Zycinski, head of BBC Radio Scotland, said the BBC and media in general were complicit in the destruction of celebrities like Winehouse. He said that public interest in the singer's lifestyle does not make her lifestyle newsworthy. Rod McKenzie editor of the BBC Radio One program Newsbeat replied that "If you play [Amy Winehouse's] music to a certain demographic, those same people want to know what's happening in her private life. If you don't cover it, you're insulting young license fee payers."[1]

Comments

Firstly, what a pleasure to review such an informative and well-constructed article.

  • 'to young Amy'. Perhaps 'to the young Amy': not over-keen on use of first names, though in the family context it may be the easiest solution - it could be avoided with 'to her when she was young', etc. Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 03:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • It doesn't matter here at GA but the references are not consistently formatted - some use cite format, some have hand-embedded URLs, etc, some use 'sfn' short format.
  • 'It went to number one on the UK Albums Chart numerous times,' -- it stayed at #1 for a while, or it bounced up and down in the chart repeatedly? Maybe say how long it stayed there, or how many bounces it made. Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 12:57, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
  • 'because of the inclusion by her record label of certain songs and mixes she disliked.' Perhaps a tad klunky; maybe 'because her record label had included ...' Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 03:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • 'she'd put in on a CD and play it in his taxi' - I guess this is 'she'd put it on a CD...' (typo)
  • Perhaps should avoid "she'd" also (that applies throughout the article).
Could you cite where in Wikipedia or other rules that says we can't use short forms? thank you--Aichik (talk) 03:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Let's not argue. I don't believe it's rigidly forbidden, just that it feels light in WP:TONE rather than encyclopedic; for the record, the style essay (it's not policy) says "in a businesslike manner", whatever that might mean. I shan't fail the article on such grounds, but I suspect any copy-editor would at once make the change.Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 16:33, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
This has not been done - kindly do not strike my comments, that's my job. The question of tone may be relevant in future so it should remain on file.
  • 'citing doctor advice to take a complete rest.' - maybe 'citing her doctor's advice...' or 'citing medical advice...'.

  • 'She performed what was described as a polished set which ended with her storming off the stage. Her hour late arrival caused her set to be cut off at the halfway point due to a curfew.' So, she stormed off, or she was cut off? I think she was asked to stop and so stormed off - if so, please say so.Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 03:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • 'Universal Music pressed her regarding new material in 2008,' - perhaps 'pressed her for new material...'
Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 03:08, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Jeff Zycinski said - citation needed. I fixed the reported speech.
  • 'Other artists that have credited Winehouse as a major influence as well for paving the way for them include Emeli Sandé, Misha B, Jessie J, Paloma Faith, Lana Del Rey, and Florence Welch.' - perhaps 'who have...', and it's correctly marked as needing citations.
Green tickY--Aichik (talk) 03:43, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
That's a big improvement, thank you.
  • Other changes are being made to the article that do not appear to be in response to this GAN. If this instability continues the GA may well fail on criterion 3.5.

Cutting to deal with withdrawl

Do we have other sources for the bit about Blake and Amy cutting themselves to ease the pain of (crack or heroin) withdrawal in the "Relationships" section? The Times, the current source, is known to exaggerate to sell papers (for example they said Mila Kunis lost 25 lbs. for her role in The Black Swan, whereas every other paper has said 20.) Not to mention that Mitch Winehouse's bio doesn't mention anything about this. I'm inclined to take this out. thanks--Aichik (talk) 16:21, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm wary of a signature labeled "Own work bassed on File:Amy-Winehouse-signature.jpg". The original looks different to me; I'd say this isn't really her signature.

hello I feel we should make her more fun and her life is amazing but some info was not on there so i feel she should have more about her life there — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.113.215.54 (talk) 17:42, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Well, the article is mostly about her lifestyle and image - and the tempestuous aspects of these. It could use some effort to outline the originality of her music: by just homing in on the influence of old-school soul and r'n'b and her supposed imitation of Ronnie Spector and Tammi Terrell (actually Ms Spector was deeply impressed by her voice, her songwriting craft and her lyrics - and she recognized that Amy went far beyond the kind of subject matter and attitudes that Ronnie's own girl group generation had been doing) it makes it sound as if Amy was just a gifted imitator, a retro artist. Her roots in jazz - rather than indie rock or a Destiny's Child type sound - and her confidence and skill as a songwriter should be emphasised. Unfortunately that seems to have been like the dark side of the moon to the American media in her lifetime and afterwards. British and European music writers were much better at understanding the originality of her contribution, and at grasping where she came from. 83.254.151.33 (talk) 20:24, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Musical Caracteristics

Inluences The main musical influences of Amy Winehouse were singers of soul and jazz from the 1940s and 1960s as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan . However , some of gospel music artists such as Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin , also exerted some influence on the artist. During his childhood , the English used to hear musicians such as Dinah Washington , Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra , who exercised strong influences in songwriting and musical style of her debut album , Frank , in his songs incorporating elements of jazz and R & B.

However , during the development of their second studio album , Back to Black , Winehouse cited as major influences female groups of the 1950s and 1960s , commenting : ". Andara listening to a lot of girl groups of the 1950s and 1960s I liked the simplicity them . Go straight to the point . then began to think about writing songs that way . " Chief among these bands was The Shangri - Las , which she cited as her inspiration . In an interview given by singer on television broadcaster BBC Music , recorded in the Other Voices festival in Ireland , she revealed that her favorite song of the girls was " I Can Never Go Home Anymore " . "When my boyfriend and I broke up, I started to hear that song repeatedly while sitting on my kitchen floor with a bottle of Jack Daniels ," she said . Another group who exercised considerable influence on the artist was The Ronettes , since the hairstyle worn by her during this period , called beehive , was inspired in even the girls wore at the time.

In addition to these artists , she also had the following to influence singers and bands : Marvin Gaye , The Specials , Ray Charles , Donny Hathaway , The Shirelles , The Zutons , Salt -n - Pepa , TLC and Sam Cooke .

Throughout his career, Amy Winehouse also influenced some artists . The Welsh singer Duffy cited her as one of their musical influences and was compared to her because of the similarity of the musical style of the two singers . The same happened with the British Adele who , besides being named by the press as The New Amy Winehouse has revealed that Winehouse is her inspiration . The British also Paloma Faith and Australian Gabriella Cilmi are also compared to the singer for having voice , visual and musical style influenced by it , but the latter proved not like these comparisons due to the difference of the two interpreters . It also influenced the American singer Lady Gaga, who said : " Amy changed pop music forever I will forever be a very deep love for her . " .

Other artists influenced by the singer are: Lily Allen , Florence Welch , Dionne Bromfield , Caro Emerald , Jesuton , Nina Zilli and Rebecca Ferguson.

In 2010 , rapper Jay - Z said in a BBC interview that Amy Winehouse has reinvigorated the British music scene radio, saying : . " There is a strong pressure from London right now, which is great It exists from the time of Amy Winehouse think . mean, but I always think this impetus had been provoked by it . " Charles Aaron , editor of American magazine Spin , commenting on the influence of the singer on Adele , Corinne Bailey Rae , Eliza Doolittle , among other British female artists , wrote : . " Amy Winehouse was the Nirvana moment for all these women all reference her [ Amy Winehouse ] in terms of attitude , musical styles or fashion " . Jim Faber , in an article published by the American newspaper New York Daily News said that Winehouse was the triggering of a new British invasion . In 2011 , Adrian Thrills of the Daily Mail , said : " Without Amy would not Adele , Duffy and no Lady Gaga " , adding: " Even now , in an era where female pop rules the music charts as Adele , Beyoncé , Katy Perry and Gaga , nothing comes close to the emotional force of Back to Black. "

Voice and Musical Style The vocal range of Amy Winehouse was considered contralto , with a record of three octaves ( D3 -E ♭ 6 ) . Since her debut album with Frank , his voice often received compared to Sarah Vaughan , Dinah Washington , Norah Jones , among others . John Bush , editor of Allmusic data base , compared his voice to Macy Gray , referring to it as a hybrid of Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill . Alexander Billet , a critic of the Dissident Voice website , said the singer's voice had an unusual power and an undeniable strength.

Other critics praised his voice after the release of her second studio album Back to Black . In a review published by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph , Helen Brown wrote : " Her voice slides from mellifluous - winding of a woman who gets two lovers around your finger to the passionate guttural scratched from someone who was abandoned and cries sound on the floor of kitchen. Passing with inexperienced conviction for emotional experience of each song Back to Black , Amy Winehouse proves to be a true urban diva . " Teresa Wiltz , the American newspaper The Washington Post, made the following statement : . "Your voice is a mixture of regret and pulsing pain " Joshua Klein , a subject taken for the U.S. publication Pitchfork Media wrote : " Winehouse was blessed with a metallic voice that can turn any mundane sentiment into powerful statements " . Singer Tony Bennett said in an interview with The Guardian journal : " Of all the contemporary artists I know , she has the most natural jazz voice " .

The musical style played by Amy Winehouse combined a wide range of elements of several genres such as soul, jazz , rhythm and blues ( R & B ) , neo soul, blues , ska and reggae , though the latter has not really been addressed. Since her debut album with Frank , Winehouse was assessed in terms of sincerity , originality and sarcasm of his lyrics , and his writings were recognized as autobiographical . In criticism for his debut work , Beccy Lindon , the British newspaper The Guardian wrote : " Situated somewhere between Nina Simone and Erykah Badu , the sound of Winehouse is simultaneously innocent and delicate ." Chris Willman , critical of the U.S. magazine Entertainment Weekly said the singer's style was similar to the British band Sade . Greg Boraman , writer of radio and television broadcaster BBC Music , said : " The [ musical ] influences of Amy ( Vaughan and Dinah Washington ) are obvious but less striking , however, Winehouse has attitude , talent and daring enough to cause any comparison is fleeting and meaningless . "

With the release of their second studio album , Back to Black , John Bush editor of Allmusic commented : " Although Back to Black show her deserting jazz and wholly embracing contemporary R & B , all the best parts of her musical character left intact " . Editors of Mojo magazine said : " Winehouse remains one of the most original voices in modern music and now is emerging as arguably the best soul singer of his generation ." ! Jake Henneman , of Crawdaddy magazine, praised the songs on the record describing it as : " A sultry neo soul and R & B " . Jude Rogers , the British publication New Statesman called it : " A stunning album of soul , absorbing the sounds of Motown and girl groups of the 1960s and spitting them back with panache , glamor and a contemporary twist ." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.43.60.14 (talk) 04:50, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Contralto? Where is the source?

I searched all three of the articles that were reverenced and NONE of them contained the word Contralto. Also, when you click on the wiki page for Contralto this is what it says: ""Contralto" is meaningful only in reference to classical and operatic singing, as other genres lack a system of vocal categorization comparable to that generally accepted in the classical context." I don't see how this page can continue to describe her in this way. Wiki is not supposed to be about original research. Death from alcohol - wasn't it also because she had been alcohol-free for a while and thus it was easier for her to overdose on it???

I don't know much about Amy Winehouse, but the article simply states that she OD'd on alcohol, but I thought I remember reading at the time of her death that it may well have been because she had been OFF alcohol for some time and thus her body was not prepared/had lost resistance to consuming alcohol like it did when she drank regularly. Point being, the article makes it looks like she was a boozer and simply drank an enormous amount and OD'd, but I distinctly remember reading in the papers (maybe it was just suggested?) that the likely reason for her overdose was because she had been OFF alcohol, and when she fell off the wagon, her body could not handle it like it used to be able to. Does anybody know anything about these media articles?, and can they put something in the bio. The bio seems to be lacking re this aspect of her death - just makes it sound like an everyday old-fashioned overdose, and I don't recall that that was the case. Thanks in advance to anybody who knows and can put it in the bio.Betathetapi545 (talk) 21:36, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Change of citation style

Discussion at Talk:Michael Jackson revealed that the citation style of this article had been changed without obtaining consensus per WP:CITEVAR. I have begun the process of going through and reverting this change (which was done in one, 38KB edit), but this will take several edits to attempt to avoid reverting or deleting the other content work that has taken place. If there is consensus to change the style, that's fine, but there was no discussion that I could locate in the archives on this matter. GregJackP Boomer! 02:41, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

You initially commented that "Your changes are definitly unhelpful and your statement is incorrect anyway. The style was changed by an user called Mishae in December 2014. I only restored the CORRECT style used all over the article before this editor decided to mess around with the previous style." However, the GA2 review pointed out that the style was inconsistent back in 2013. I'll leave this because I really don't care about the Winehouse article, but more about respecting the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia. I will watchlist this article though and keep an eye on what referencing changes you make, particularly if there is an attempt to take it to FA. As it currently stands, this article cannot progress without major work. GregJackP Boomer! 17:22, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Sad. Why didn't anybody truly try and help this young lady?

WP:NOTFORUM AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:08, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.
It would appear that those who called themselves supporting Ms. Winehouse failed, woefully, in so doing, because they wanted her to starve and drink herself to death. I think about artists like the late Sharon Carpenter who starved herself to death. Such a beautiful talent. Why didn't anybody truly try and help this young lady? Sad really. I wish her family well, and all the best in future endeavors, perhaps, somewhere out there, there is another Amy Winehouse, and we will see them soon. In the mean time. Let us enjoy the music and support the cause of the foundation established in her name. (Forthe1789usconstitution (talk) 00:50, 21 August 2015 (UTC))

Minor edit, pronoun unclear

In the first paragraph of section "2006–07: international success, Back to Black and touring" the line referring to Ronson "She in turn thought that when they first met, he was a sound engineer and that ~he~ was expecting an older man with a beard.[50]" has an unclear pronoun. The way it is written suggests that Ronson expected Winehouse to have a beard. In the context of the sentence, Winehouse expecting Ronson to have a beard makes more sense. Thoughts? Anyone want to change this? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C2:801:4250:31F9:EEB8:2BF:925C (talk) 07:20, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Best Selling UK Album?

There are two dated references to Back to Black being the highest selling Uk album of the 21st century:

"Her album Back to Black posthumously became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century, at that point.[13] "

"As of August 2011, "Back to Black" was the best-selling album in the UK in the twenty-first century[124]"

Currently Adele's 21 has surpassed Back to Black in that position and the Amy Winehouse article should be updated to reflect that. This is an addition to the existing statement and a clarification. During Amy Winehouse's performance at St. Lucia of May 2009, she appeared to intoxicated and unable to remember her lyrics. Rather than leaving the stage because she was "bored," she was booed off by the crowd.

The addition should be, "after being booed off of the stage by the crowd." It should be added in directly following "She apologised to the crowd for being "bored" and ended the set in the middle of a song."

Edited Version: In May 2009 Winehouse returned to performing at a jazz festival in Saint Lucia amid torrential downpours and technical difficulties. During her set it was reported she was unsteady on her feet and had trouble remembering lyrics. She apologised to the crowd for being "bored" and ended the set in the middle of a song, after being booed off of the stage by the crowd.[105][106]

GA cleanup

It's been a few years since this article was listed as a Good Article, and it might be worth looking at it closely. I note the lead is not an appropriate overview of the article per GA Criteria 1(b) "it complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections", and that there are a number of short sections, and short paragraphs, and images which cluster and squeeze the text, which impacts on WP:Layout, as well as too many images which are the same, which impacts on Criteria 6 (b) "images are relevant to the topic. The External links/Further reading may not comply with WP:LAYOUTEL, which is part of Criteria 1(b). There probably isn't much else to do, as the rest of the article looks sound, though as those items are obvious, it's worth having a closer look. SilkTork ✔Tea time 09:15, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Insert into Personal Relationships last paragraph. I'm the Navy SEAL. You can edit any grammar stuff. My Grandmother is Portuguese btw. Get the hint.

During her 16th birthday while out looking for her brother Alex, Amy met a US Navy SEAL in England while at a small fair for the Christening of a British vessel. They immediately clicked. It was the SEAL who provided the funds for Amy Winehouse to create and record her demo CD's. Growing up in Los Angeles the SEAL had performed in an audition with out any help or support from his family and thus stated Amy's determination deserves support. Due to his clandestine profession, they rarely got to spend time together. However when Amy was performing at the AB in Brussels, he and members of his SEAL Team visited Amy back stage. Amy Winehouse would also spend time in Coronado, San Diego and Rhode Island to visit and spend time together. It is rumored that he was her "Yankee Husband." Amy Winehouse is no stranger to the US Navy SEALs or their families. While in Coronado she met wives and sang children's tunes for the SEALs family members present. Before her death, the SEAL desperately tried to get Emergency to Amy having a feeling that she was about to depart. He flew out of US Joint Base Hickam Pearl Harbor piloting a secretive air craft and landing in England where he was met by British forces and local US State Department personnel. He attended Amy Winehouse's funeral in secrecy of the media. He is also the owner of "Amy's Diamond" which he had listed in his will to be given to Amy Winehouse upon his death. Besides the AB, Coronado and Rhode Island, Amy Winehouse and the US Navy SEAL were able to steal small moments of time to spend together.

I think that it would be better to have as the main picture a more current picture of Amy, if not maybe a picture of her at least singing. It would be best to show how she looked towards the end of her career, instead of the current image.

Two examples are below

I would like to add the Signature of Amy Winehouse onto her Wikipedia Page. Her signature is on Non-English Wikipedia sites, so it would be great if I could put her signature in her biographical data section. Christiancore (talk) 06:22, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Are you able to link the signature here so it can be added in Christiancore? I couldn't find it off a quick search. The edit requests are generally a requester requesting someone with access to add something, not for the requester to get extra permissions. — IVORK Discuss 06:29, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Profile picture of Amy Winehouse.

I request to have the following photo to be the profile picture of Amy Winehouse. I'd like the picture to be more recent up until her death. Link: https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/470279/amy-winehouse-cancels-rest-of-european-tour. I'd want the caption to be: "Winehouse performing at the Summer Soul Festival in Florianopolis, Brazil, on 9 January 2011."

Not done - that would be a copyright violation. Theroadislong (talk) 08:36, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Yup, Theroadislong is correct. Please read WP:CV.--5 albert square (talk) 08:51, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Blake Fielder-Civil birthday

Hi,

Regarding Blake Fielder-Civil birthday - I see it is reverted back to August 1978 - but I don't think it is proper date, as it does not count with many other information in the article and does not fit with all sources, but one. First of all - cited source (an article from The Guardian [7]) does not contain any date of his birth. It just merely suggests he was 34 in February 2013 and does not mention any month of his birth. Of course if he was really 34 in 2013 it gives his year of birth 1978 or 1979, as the source does not prove the month of his birth. However, there are numerous other sources from which one can retrieve the other date of his birth, which seems to be much more probable. According to The Daily Mail he was 25 in 2007 (which gives 1982 as his year of birth) [8]. The same paper published his secondary school photo from 1997. If he was born in 1978 - he should be 19 on this picture, which would be really strange, taking into account that we can read in the Amy Winehouse article, that he left school at the age of 16. Also Peterborough Telegraph from 2007 mentions that he was 25 in 2007 and cite his friend knowing him in 1998 when he was 16 (again it gives his year of birth rather 1982 not 1978). Also, even The Gaurdian in the article from 2011 [9], writes that he was 29... as well as in this article from 2015 The Guardian mentions he was 33 (year of birth 1982) [10].. Yet another source: Evening Yorkshire Post reports him being arrested in 2011, when he was 29 (again year of birth 1982) [11]. I guess the local newspaper found his age from local police station officer note. Also IMBd: [12] provides his date of birth as April 16, 1982, and one can find more sources to retrieve his year of birth as 1982. Polimerek (talk) 11:21, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Thank you. I've edited the article to reflect the year of birth only, 1982, using the 2011 Guardian article as a refernce. IMDB is not reliable for biographical information (See Wikipedia:External_links/Perennial_websites#IMDb). --Ronz (talk) 15:58, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Holbourne Police Station, 26th April 2008

There was around a dozen papperazzi outside when I came out (reported an asus laptop and NL passport theft on the day), but a quick search did not return any pics. Pic should be found and article should reflect events chronologically. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.209.7.228 (talk) 21:55, 14 August 2018 (UTC) Odd, that one。~~~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.209.58.177 (talk) 19:07, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Dunno bout the Dutch passport or laptop case, but yes, papparatzi sold pics to dailymail, see www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1016911/Amy-Winehouse-tears-arrested-pub-assualt-claims.html . Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.86.225.226 (talk) 21:09, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

I don't have an account but I believe in the Death section in addition to the coroner's finding of how much alcohol she has in her blood but also the amount of vodka the police recovered from her room. It gives a perspective on how much alcohol she had consumed to be lethal. Just a thought. 2607:FEA8:11E0:C97:19DD:FFB:64C7:4187 (talk) 12:43, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Errors on Blake Fielder-Civil imprisonment

Hello, I have just written a book about Amy Winehouse and after reading several books -included the ones of her parents- and a lot of press articles, there are some errors in her wikipedia page, in the Relationships' text:

· Blake Fielder-Civil was in jail from 9th November 2007 to 25th February 2009 (21th July of 2008 is the date of the sentence, but he was already in jail on remand for 9 months). [2][3]

· The incident took place in June 2006 (not in July 2007).[4][5][6]

Re: "After she rose to fame, during an interview she expressed her dismissal towards the school by saying that she used to beg her father to allow her not to go and that she learned nothing about being Jewish by going anyway" the word "dismissal" does not make sense.

I don't have access to reference to check its wording and am not registered here for editing.

Why must people make statements of "She was .416(whatever) percent alcohol; 4 TIMES THE LEGAL 'DRIVING LIMIT'". She was not driving so why insert that bit of irrelevant information. Driving limit must regard under the circumstances that she was operating a motor vehicle, not passed out in her house. Sorry but I see this on my local news reports, and it's my pet peeve. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flybikes90 (talkcontribs) 03:55, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

I am the source. But that's ok don't want it listed on here anyways. Too much like that Amy so called biopic. This wiki should be redone completely. Ever wonder why she tattooed sailor on her?
