The 2024 San Jose elections were held on March 5, 2024. Voters will elect candidates in a nonpartisan primary, with runoff elections scheduled for November 5. The Mayor and five of the ten seats in the City Council are up for election.
Municipal elections in California are officially nonpartisan; candidates' party affiliations do not appear on the ballot.
Following voters approval of Measure B in 2022, San Jose moved to holding elections during presidential years. Incumbent Matt Mahan was first elected in 2022 and ran for re-election. He faced minimal opposition, winning outright with 86.6% of the vote against Tyrone Wade.
The 2nd district is located in South San Jose including Coyote Valley, Edenvale and Santa Teresa. The incumbent is Sergio Jimenez, who was first elected in 2016 and cannot seek re-election to office due to term limits. Former Sheriff's Sergeant Joe Lopez and educator Pamela Campos advanced to the runoff.
The 4th district is located in North San Jose including Alviso and Berryessa . The incumbent is David Cohen, who was first elected in 2020 and is seeking re-election to office. Cohen defeated former AssemblymemberKansen Chu in the first round with 58.6% of the vote.
The 6th district is located in Central San Jose including The Alameda, Buena Vista, Burbank, Rose Garden, West San Carlos and Willow Glen. The incumbent is Dev Davis, who was first elected in 2016 and cannot seek re-election to office due to term limits. Businessman Michael Mulcahy and city commissioner Olivia Navarro advanced to the runoff.
The 8th district is located in Southeast San Jose including Evergreen, Meadowfair and Silver Creek Valley. The incumbent is Domingo Candelas, who was appointed in 2023 following incumbent Sylvia Arenas election to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, he is seeking re-election to office. Incumbent councilman Domingo Candelas and police Sergeant Tam Truong advanced to the runoff.
The 10th district is located in South San Jose including Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley. The incumbent is Arjun Batra, who was appointed in 2022 following incumbent Matt Mahan's election as Mayor, he is seeking re-election to office. Incumbent councilman Arjun Batra and former San Jose Planning Commissioner George Casey advanced to the runoff.
