WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:48, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
RfC on election/referendum naming format
An RfC on moving the year from the end to the start of article titles (e.g. South African general election, 2019 to 2019 South African general election) has been reopened for further comment, including on whether a bot could be used move the articles if it closed in favour of the change: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. Can someone add a few more sentences here, from the Spanish Wikipedia? He is probably notable, but our article is effectively a speedy deletion candidate for being a sub-stub. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:56, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Piotrus, I don't know how helpful this is, but I translated the lede section from the article at es.wikipedia. I still think this might be a speedy deletion candidate because the Spanish article included only one citation, confirming only the dates of birth and death. I will see if I can find a reliable secondary source. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 10:41, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Oldsanfelipe: Thank you. Now if we could only add something about his achievements (awards, recognition, books published, etc.). I see a number of mentions of his name in printed sources ([1]) through they are mostly in Spanish, and I can't read them well. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:02, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: I can try again in another day or two. He published about six books according to the source cited in the article. I will translate the titles and add a credit to es.wikipedia. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 10:20, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
New site for national weather
I noticed that the San Miguel de Allende page cites an old URL for the Servicio Meteorologico Nacional. The current index page for historical climate data can be found here: [2]. Cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 15:23, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Monumento a la Revolución vs. Monument to the Revolution
Should the Monumento a la Revolución article be moved to Monument to the Revolution here at English Wikipedia? Project members are invited to contribute to the discussion on the article's talk page. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:19, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
Monumento a los Niños Héroes
I've forked Monumento a los Niños Héroes from the Niños Héroes article and invite project members to help expand appropriately. Also, I assume this is the best title for the article about the monument?
Sorry for all the talk page notes here, but I am currently touring Mexico and trying to make improvements to WP articles as I see and learn about various sites. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:23, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Split San Miguel de Allende
There is a proposal to split San Miguel de Allende, based mainly on creating a new article for the municipality of San Miguel de Allende. Thanks, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 10:30, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
"Puebla City" vs. "Puebla (city)"
Please see Talk:Puebla_City#Requested_move_16_November_2018 regarding whether or not the Puebla City article should be moved to Puebla (city).
Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:56, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- The page has been moved. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:14, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
Article titles at English Wikipedia
There are ongoing discussions on various talk pages about the most appropriate titles for pages here at English Wikipedia. I invite project members to weigh in, please:

Cholula forks
I've forked several articles from the Cholula, Puebla article: San Francisco Acatepec, Santa María Tonantzintla, San Gabriel Convent, and Plaza de la Concordia.
I've noted the forks at Talk:Cholula, Puebla and suggested additional trimming to the "Pyramid of Cholula and Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Church" section since there are separate articles about both. None of these articles are ideal, but hopefully they will get the ball rolling on some better standalone articles about seemingly notable topics. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:06, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
Puebla City category at Wikimedia Commons needs work!
Hello again! I noticed the "Puebla City" category at Wikimedia Commons needs some help moving images into appropriate subcategories. Editors familiar with Puebla are encouraged to help identify sites and move files. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:56, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
Draft:List of statues on Paseo de la Reforma
Project members are welcome to help expand Draft:List of statues on Paseo de la Reforma. Please see the talk page for ongoing discussions and to help identify images of statues at Wikimedia Commons. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:06, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Monumento a las Águilas Caídas o Tribuna Monumental
I created Tribuna Monumental, but now I'm wondering if the article should be called Monumento a las Águilas Caídas. What do editors think? Can someone provide an assessment based on secondary coverage? I do not speak Spanish. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:07, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Merging Tecoaque and Zultepec
The merger of the articles Tecoaque (created March 2009) and Zultepec (created November 2008) has been proposed. Discussion is at Talk:Tecoaque#Merge discussion. --Bejnar (talk) 15:37, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
Currency symbol for the Mexican Peso
At Template talk:Dollar sign#Mexican peso error? there is a discussion about the symbol to use for the Mexican Peso in an internationla context (eg MX$, M$, Mex$). I asked the question at Talk:Mexican peso/Archives/2019#International symbol but got no reply. Would somebody here like to suggest what {{Dollar sign}}
is going to use for the Mexican Peso across all of WP? Stepho talk 22:03, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
The article Discovery Channel Mexico has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged as being unreferenced since 2008 and for notability/context since 2017. Article is nothing more than a single sentence and a navigation box. No evidence that this meets WP:GNG or WP:ORG; so, if deletion is not appropriate, then a redirect to another article may be.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:13, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Article for church?
Should there be an article for Parish of Jesus y Maria y Nuestra Señora de la Merced? If so, best English-language article title? @Ermanon: Thanks for helping to identify. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:21, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- I couldn't find extensive coverage on the church. But the article/category's name should be "Parroquia de Jesús María y Nuestra Señora de la Merced". No "Y" in between Jesús and María. Cheers, MX (✉ • ✎) 19:36, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- Best English title (I think): Parish of Jesus Maria and Our Lady of Mercy. MX (✉ • ✎) 19:38, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- MX, Thank you very much. I am curious, did you find any sources you could share? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:43, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- This one here is good. But as I looked more into it, it seems like the church used to be a convent called Jesus Maria. There is a book about it and plenty of mentions in Google Books and elsewhere. The first article called it a "former convent". MX (✉ • ✎) 21:16, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- MX, Do you have any interest in creating even a stub with the sources you've found at the most appropriate English title? I would, but I don't speak Spanish so I'm not really comfortable guessing based on online translations. I also don't know if the historic or current name is preferred. I'm happy to help by connecting to Commons/Wikidata etc. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:47, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- Also, I noticed Template:Historic buildings of Mexico City Centro has an entry for Temple and Ex-convent of Jesus Maria. Could this be the same? ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:00, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, they are the same one. If you Google "Templo Jesus Maria Ciudad de Mexico" it will pull the same location. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to create a new article but I'll watch it and update on and off once you do. Cheers, MX (✉ • ✎) 15:58, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- MX, If you think Temple and Ex-convent of Jesus Maria is the best title, I'll go ahead and create a stub. Or, do you still think Parish of Jesus Maria and Our Lady of Mercy is more appropriate? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:41, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Juan Villoro
Hey folks,
I am a TA for a Spanish Culture and History course at Brigham Young University and I am getting familiar with the layout. The project for the class if to translate a portion of an article from Spanish to English. I chose the article on Mexican author Juan Villoro. I just translated the section on his "Interests" because it didn't appear on the English page but I wanted to let the community know that I went ahead and worked on it. I plan on making future edits and translations. ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nielshc (talk • contribs) 21:32, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Source about monument?
Can someone confirm if this source is about File:Ext. Museo Memoria y Tolerancia - 8.jpg and whether or not an article should be created for this monument? I don't speak Spanish, but I saw this statue in Mexico City and wondered if an article is needed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:18, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: It seems like it's not. This other source similar to yours has an image showing the monument. The sources you and I shared describe the monument as a placa (plaque), not a statue (like the image). It does seem to be the same building/area though... not sure how accurate the image description is. My best bet would be to ping Mexico City editors... MX (✉ • ✎) 14:23, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- MX, Thanks for replying. Yes, I'm confused because I'm trying to find info on the statue and I seem to be finding mention of the plaques/ flagpole/ plaza. Perhaps the monument is not notable enough for an article? I'm not sure which editors live in Mexico City specifically, hence my note here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: Wikipedians from Mexico City can be found here (just make sure check if they were recently active). For Wikipedians interested in Mexico City, you can find them here. I don't feel qualified to answer your question regarding the notability of the monument, but if it received significant coverage beyond its initially inauguration, I don't see why not. Buildings
Does anyone happen to recognize any of the following churches buildings in Mexico City?
-
IDENTIFIED: Parish of the Holy Child of Peace
I'm trying to sort images in commons:Category:Buildings in Mexico City and, more specifically, commons:Category:Churches in Mexico City at Wikimedia Commons. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:39, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, the first image, File:Mexico City (2018) - 154.jpg, actually is not a church, is a ZARA store in Madero Street, in dowtonwn Mexico City.--Vmzp85 (talk) 15:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Vmzp85, Ah, sorry for the confusion re: the Zara store. I knew this was not a church, but I was wondering if the building itself had a name, or was notable. There were so many historic buildings around Madero. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
I noticed User:Juanscott just tagged the first image as "La Mexicana" at Wikimedia Commons. Does anyone know if this building is notable? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:26, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
@Vmzp85: For the second image above (the church exterior), I took File:Mexico City (2018) - 349.jpg right before, so the church is located near Paseo de la Reforma and this building, but possibly on the opposite (south) side of the road. Any ideas? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, this church is on Praga Street, near Paseo de la Reforma, at this location. I dont know the name of the church. Regards- --Vmzp85 (talk) 20:52, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

@Ermanon: Pinging you as well, since you categorize Mexico church images at Commons often. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:56, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- The first building is at Isabel la Católica and Francisco Madero Av. corner (north corner). --Ermanon (talk) 07:19, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
@Vmzp85: Thanks for the lead on the second image above. I found this (which also mentions the name "Parroquia de Praga"). @MX: Might you be able to do a quick search to confirm if this is the best possible title for a stub about the church? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:56, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: The most appropriate title would be its official name. In English, Holy Child of Peace Church or Parish of the Holy Child of Peace should work. MX (✉ • ✎) 16:01, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- MX, Thanks, I've created a short stub at Parish of the Holy Child of Peace for further development. If you can think of a better way to display the various titles (in both English and Spanish), help is appreciated. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:23, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Sculptures
I'm also curious if anyone knows who these statues depict:

-
IDENTIFIED: Mother's Monument
-

Thanks for any leads! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:10, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- Google image search can help find other instances of an image, which may have more info. This may also reveal copyright problems. You can also find more info when there is a visible sign or plaque. This pic, with some work, can be seen to say Próspero María / Arzobispo de México / 8 de Febrero 1892 / 30 de Marzo 1908 (Prospero Maria / Archbishop of Mexico / 8 Feb 1892 / 30 Mar 1908), which links to here, etc. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 06:46, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- The statue of File:Mexico City (2018) - 450 (cropped).jpg is the Mother's monument. If you send the locations of the other images, I can help you more. Regards.--Vmzp85 (talk) 15:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for identifying the Mother's Monument -- I'd be happy to create a stub, but do you think "Mother's Monument" is the most appropriate title for English Wikipedia? As for the locations of the other churches, your best bet might be to actually take a quick look at this gallery to see images of nearby locations. I kept all images in chronological order, so for example if you're trying to identify image #500, might be helpful to look at images #495-505, to see surrounding areas. Any images here without captions show subjects I am still trying to identify and categorize appropriately, and any help is much appreciated. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt?
I believe the first sculpture image above depicts Franklin D. Roosevelt. - @Another Believer: Dang, that's interesting. I couldn't find any sources other than this one here. The statue was made by Jorge de la Peña Beltrán, but I got nothing else. MX (✉ • ✎) 14:55, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- MX, I know, right?, there must be more to this story. Knowing the artist name is helpful. Thank you. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:02, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- Another Believer, I think it must be tied to his support of Mexico's oil nationalization in 1938 (via the Good Neighbor Agreement). Oil discussions play a big role in Mexico's national identity, sense of sovereignty, and economic progress. The fact that FDR approved of such a move despite losing U.S. assets and multiple calls for intervention made him really popular in Mexico. MX (✉ • ✎) 16:02, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- MX, Thanks for the context. Well, I went ahead and created a stub despite very weak sourcing: Statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt (Mexico City). We'll see what happens. I am not exactly sure of the boundaries of Chapultepec, but I went ahead and added the Chapultepec template and category. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:03, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Gentrification in Mexico City
Mexico City has undergone a massive expansion of urbanization and population density, especially in the last 50 years, becoming one of the biggest cities in the world. Its rapid development has presented numerous challenges that Mexico struggles to solve including gentrification. Therefore, I would like to start a new article specifically about Mexico City's situation, providing a historic background and current facts, as well as urban proposals that are being debated to resolve this issue. More information can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ennis_Architect/sandbox I would truly enjoy hearing your comments on this issue. Battles involving Mexico not translated
I have noticed that several battles in Mexican wars are not traslated to english. When I was looking at unpopular battles of the Second French Intervention are linked to the spanish article because there is no page in english, and lest´s be honest, english is the most read language in Wikipedia. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Fresnillo
1. I saw this article on the project's cleanup list. The Fresnillo article has been tagged as unreferenced since 2009. I found an online article about Fresnillo from the Enciclopedia de los Municipios y Delagaciones de México: [[3]]. A quick read of this source seems to support many parts of the Wikipedia article and I used it for an inline citation to support one paragraph. Before I go any further by adding inline citations based on this source, I wanted to get some opinions from editors who are more familiar with Spanish-language sources: is this online encyclopedia an RS?
2. Comments on the talk page ask whether the EN article is a translation of the ES article. The content of both articles is similar and the ES article, though not tagged, has the same lack of references. On this basis, should we place a notice on the EN article that that it is a translation of the ES one? Thanks, Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 06:53, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
Puente de los Leones, Calzada de la Juventud Heróica, CDMX
Another editor and I have a couple questions for editors familiar with Chapultepec and Mexico City. Please see this discussion.
Should commons:Category:Puente de los Leones, Mexico City be a subcategory of commons:Category:Calzada de la Juventud Heróica?
Also, should commons:Category:Calzada del Rey have a Wikipedia article?
Any feedback is helpful. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:26, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Surely these two articles refer to the same museum?
Francisco Villa Museum which I'm pretty sure is actually the Historical Museum of the Mexican Revolution. Also called the Quinta Luz Museum[4] Doug Weller talk 15:05, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: I also checked ES Wikipedia and there is no discrete article on the museum. The article on Chihuahua City[5], however, gives the name of as "Museo de la Revolución Mexicana (Casa de Villa)." Alas, there is no supporting citation. If you are good at writing merger proposals, I would support. Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 15:26, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Bienvenidos a los Wikios de Mexico
Hello there. I wanted to let the project know that I have an article up for featured article candidacy – Effects of Hurricane Wilma in Mexico. I'm hoping to get the article featured by the storm's 15 year anniversary this October. The storm was one of Mexico's worst hurricanes. I'm looking for anything in the article that feels like it is lacking, or doesn't explain well enough. I hope this message greets you well in this time of global emergency. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:43, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Flags, logos and information
Hi. I'm a mexican user from Spanish Wikipedia. I noticed that some information, logos and flags are incorrect or imprecise (For example this one that is outdated). Although I could make the changes, I would not like to make them arbitrarily and without consulting you. I haven't worked much on English Wikipedia, but I know I could support the project by creating articles and expanding those that already exist based on articles in Spanish. --Markov28 | Talk 20:19, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Markov28: I would say that if you see something outdated, you should go ahead and update it. Most Mexico-related pages are outdated. © Tbhotch™ (en-3). 20:56, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Fuerte avocado info in the Atlixco article
I was reading up on Fuerte avocados (I have a tree in my yard) and discovered that the parent tree for the Fuerte was discovered in Atlixco, MX in 1911. I hopped over to the Atlixco wikipedia article and didn't find any mention of this wonderful fact. A quick Googling turned up a few credible sources that support the story.
http://www.avocadosource.com/CAS_Yearbooks/CAS_11_1925-26/CAS_1925-26_PG_24-34.pdf
https://academic.oup.com/jhered/article-abstract/28/5/181/856909?redirectedFrom=PDF
Is it appropriate to add this info the the Atlixco article, and if so where? Though once the dominant avocado in California agriculture, it's long been surpassed by the Hass because of its tough skin. So I'm not sure it belongs in the economy section. Many avocado lovers still know and love the Fuerte for its wonderful, rich flavor. So would still love to add this interesting fact, just don't know where is appropriate.
Any advice is appreciated.
Steve McKay (talk) 03:39, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- SteveMcKay I would add it to the "Economy" section. Although perhaps not currently an important part of the local eceonomy, it obviously was at one time, and there are already three paragraphs in that section devoted to agriculture. Another possibility would be "History". Let me know if you need any help with this. GA-RT-22 (talk) 20:41, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

This looks like a non-notable film but I wanted to double-check with people who might know where to look for non-English references before I sent it to AFD.
Unless it got some "big name" reviews, did well at the box office, or has received other recognition, I very much doubt it meets WP:Notability (films). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 22:02, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

INEGI published their 2020 census on Excel pages. Multiple cities, towns and municipalities still have written the 2000/2005 census. Discrepancies and errors in the description of the 31 states
The articles for the 31 states currently have diverse forms (most of them wrong) of describing their role as administrative divisions of Mexico. Here's a list:
- Aguascalientes: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Baja California: "is a state in Mexico. It is the northernmost and westernmost of the 32 federal entities of Mexico"
- Baja California Sur: "is the second-smallest Mexican state by population and the 31st admitted state of the 32 states which make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Campeche: "is one of the 31 states which make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Chiapas: "is one of the states that make up the 32 federal entities of Mexico"
- Chihuahua: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Coahuila: "is one of the 32 states of Mexico"
- Colima: "is one of the 31 states that make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Durango: "is one of the 31 states which make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Guanajuato: "is one of the 32 states which make up the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Guerrero: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Hidalgo: "is one of the 32 states which constitute the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Jalisco: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- México: "is one of the 32 federal entities of Mexico"
- Michoacán: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Morelos: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Nayarit: "is one of the 32 states that comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Nuevo León: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Oaxaca: "is one of the 32 states that compose the Federative Entities of Mexico"
- Puebla: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Querétaro: "is one of the 32 federal entities of Mexico"
- Quintana Roo: "is one of the 32 states which compose the federal entities of Mexico"
- San Luis Potosí: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Sinaloa: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Sonora: "is one of 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Tabasco: "is one of the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Tamaulipas: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Tlaxcala: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Veracruz: "is one of the 32 states that comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Yucatán: "is one of the 32 states which comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico"
- Zacatecas: "is one of the 32 states of Mexico"
Most prevalent (20 out of 31) are variations of "is one of the 32 states that/which comprise/compose/constitute/make up the (32) Federal Entities of Mexico". This is wrong, as there are only 31 states and Mexico City is not a state (even after losing its status of federal district and becoming more state-like as an autonomous entity in 2016). But even if one were to inaccurately count Mexico City as a state, it makes little sense to say "32 states that make up the 32 federal entities", as there is then no distinction and one might as well just say "is one of the 32 states".
We should agree on a correct form and use it consistently in all the articles. My suggestion would be to just say "is one of the 31 states of Mexico" and leave it up to the link to explain the details, since it's an introductory sentence. If the details are included, they should be included correctly, e.g. "is one of the 31 states that, together with Mexico City, form the 32 federal entities of Mexico".
Other pages also incorrectly include Mexico City among the states; see Ranked list of Mexican states and the links there.
Also, it's "Federal Entities" (capitalized) most of the time, but sometimes "federal entities" (not capitalized) and sometimes "federative entities" (from the Spanish "entidad federativa"). The form "federal entities" seems to be more common than the more literal "federative entities", and I don't think it should be capitalized, since it's not the official Spanish name of the units. So I would suggest to use "federal entities" (not capitalized) throughout.
Joriki (talk) 10:30, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- I support the "is one of the 31 states that, together with Mexico City, form the 32 federal entities of Mexico", as accurate. For the lists of states, it should have at the very least a note that mentions MC is not a full state. (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:28, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
RFC: State flags of Mexico
Should the articles about the states of Mexico have an infobox flag? (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Background
As stated by State flags of Mexico, only 7 states have an official flag (de jure): Baja California Sur, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Querétaro, Quintana Roo and Tlaxcala. Tamaulipas uses its coat of arms officially as a flag. Baja California Norte and Campeche "shall not [have an] official state flag" as per their constitution. The remaining 22 states* (*Mexico City is not a state but for simplicity of this RFC it will be considered as one) don't have an official flag and they merely use the coat of arms as their de facto flag.
Among the official flags, only 2 are different enough (Jalisco and Tlaxcala); the remaining 5 (+ Tamaulipas) are a repetition of the coat of arms against a white background.
I tried to find some kind of guideline about this everywhere, but there is nothing written. I found this archived discussion with a similar query.
This is an example of an article with a flag and without it.
I've also seen these flags being removed, either, because of their non-legal status or because they look repetitive. So what should be done here? (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Possible options
- A: Include the flags in all 32 states, regardless of their legal status.
- B: Include the flags in all the states where it is used de jure and de facto (excludes Baja California Norte and Campeche)
- C: Include them only in all the states where it is used de jure (Baja California Sur, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Querétaro, Quintana Roo and Tlaxcala)
- C1: Same as C, but also includes Tamaulipas.
- D: Include them in Jalisco and Tlaxcala only. The flags are official and different from their coat of arms.
- E: Exclude them from all the state articles as they are repetitions of their own official coat of arms.
Discussion
- C, at least. These territories are the only ones that accepted to adopt a flag, the remaining 25 can do it but they don't want to, so why should we? Otherwise, E, as repetitive and quasi-decorative, especially in those where it is not official. (CC) Tbhotch™ 20:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Invited from WT:WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology: Anything between B and C1 is fine, depending on context and usefulness, provided it is done consistently - i.e. if you are going to include de facto flags for one state, you need to do it for all in the same situation. Options A and D make personal determinations about flag status and would be proscribed as WP:OR. Option E is factually incorrect in at least two cases, constitutes OR in the case of five states with de jure flags - by law they are not the same as the coat of arms - and is overall antithetical to the purpose of Wikipedia to collect and diseminate verifiable information. - B or C - It seems to me to be discourteous, not to say against the WP rules, to ascribe a flag to a political entity that specifically mentions in its constitution that it does not have a flag. PraiseVivec (talk) 12:49, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- C or D(Summoned by bot) I echo PraiseVivec's arguments and can see the sense of arguing that the info is only useful when the flag has both legal status and is also distinct from the seal/insignia of the state. But C would be a minimum criteria for inclusion.Pincrete (talk) 06:42, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Marathons in Mexico
Greetings everyone! I noticed there were very few pages for the marathons in Mexico, but there are quite a few marathons in the nation—some of the are major international athletic events. I created two from pages that existed in Spanish Wikipedia, but there are still quite a few to be created. Two road races of major importance are the Guadalajara Half Marathon and the Guadalajara Marathon, both of which are IAAF-labeled races (and the only North American races still in red in the World Athletics Label Road Races template and pages such as 2018 IAAF Road Race Label Events. There are seven marathons listed (with most in red) on the List of marathon races in North America page. Would anyone be able to comb through some Spanish language sources to find good information on the basics of these races? The winner lists can always come later.

Is 'National Research and Technology Council (Mexico)' the same entity as 'Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (Mexico)'?
If these are the same thing, should their pages be merged? I can't tell if they are the same or if I am just confused. The first is a stub and an orphan, and the second is a very good article with lots of sources, so I would say that the first should be merged into the second, or redirected there - but I am new and don't really know either way. Arlo Winterbaum (talk) 23:46, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

The Boy on the Seahorse
If I'm understanding correctly, there are two copies of The Boy on the Seahorse. I'm not sure if some of the titles/translations I'm seeing online refer to both or either. Might someone be able to help flesh out this entry with more detail and perhaps clarify if some of the titles refer to one or the other? For instance, I'm seeing "de Mar" in some cases, but this might be specifically for the southern sculpture? Help!
@Tbhotch: This might be of interest to you? ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:23, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: The one pictured in the Wikipedia article is the replica. (CC) Tbhotch™ 05:28, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- Tbhotch, Right, I guess my question is, do both sculptures have the same title/translations, or do some of the titles/translations I'm seeing online apply to just one? I can try sorting this out on the article's talk page over time. I'll be spending some time in PV+Guadalajara later this year, so I hope to create and improve lot of MX-related Wikipedia entries. Thanks and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:53, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: Replicas rarely get a different name. I found it is consistently called "El niño sobre el caballo de mar" at PuertoVallarta.net,[6] which seems to be the private tourism platform of the city (caps apart, as Spanish doesn't capitalize everything). Puerto Vallarta itself calls it El caballito[7]; the government of Mexico El caballito de mar[8]. Zamarripa is the sole person that knows the exact name but there is no way to contact him. (CC) Tbhotch™ 19:02, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- Tbhotch, Thanks. Would you say The Boy on the Seahorse is still the best title for the article? I'm not always sure when English Wikipedia should use an English title or not, especially for a work of art. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:08, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Another Believer: If an established English name exists for the subject, you use the English name; if no English name exists for the subject, you use the original name; if multiple English names exist for the subject, you use the most common one, if there is none, you use the original one. If there are several names for the original name (like in this statue) WP:Common name still applies and every alternate name should be redirected to it. This is further covered by WP:UE and WP:USEENGLISH. I have to add that WP:AT asks to not invent names. (CC) Tbhotch™ 19:20, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres and list of statues
Me again! I've tried updating the list of statues at Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres based on a source shared on the talk page as well as the Spanish Wikipedia entry. However, at the bottom of Talk:Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres, I've identified some names mentioned at Spanish Wikipedia but not illustrated in the source. (Yes, the people are mentioned in the source's prose, but I'm hesitant to add them to the list of statues unless I know for sure the statues exist.) Anyone able to confirm if the people mentioned should be added to the list of statues?

H Para Hombres
Would some members from this WikiProject mind taking a look at H Para Hombres and assessing it for WP:NPERIODICAL? It's completely unsourced and is currently bascially nothing more than a brief introductory paragraph followed by a long embedid list of celebrity names. The magazine is probably notable enough for an article and perhaps that are non-English sources that can be used to help establish that. Moreover, the list of names could probably be trimmed and supported by WP:PROSE so that it isn't just a list of every celebrity who appeared on the cover. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:07, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Supreme Executive Power moves and article history
Since 2010, there have been at least three regular moves and three additional copy-paste moves of the article that is currently at the title Supreme Executive Power. It has also been at Triumvirate (Mexico), Provisional Government of Mexico (1823-1824), Provisional Government of Mexico (1823–24), and most recently Provisional Government of Mexico, before being moved back to Supreme Executive Power a couple days ago. The history is a mess such that I cannot do a history merge to fix the copy-paste moves, so I slapped some copied templates on Talk:Supreme Executive Power to try to ensure things are appropriately attributed. That said, some members of this Wikiproject might want to discuss the appropriate title of the article and, once the best title is ascertained, keep an eye on it to ensure no further damage is done to the article history by additional copy-paste moves. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:29, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

- I redirected it 10 years ago, but a sockuppet restored it without further information. It can be redirected again if it is not notable. (CC) Tbhotch™ 05:51, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Irma Carranza
This draft (Draft:Irma Carranza) was moved to the draftspace from someone's userpage. I tried searching for sourcing, but wasn't able to find anything. Can someone more fluent take a look to see if there's anything out there? I'm not sure if it's a case of puffery or a case of someone being notable but also being written in a praising tone. Thanks! I just would rather this get some TLC if it ends up that she's notable. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 15:02, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

I think Uruapan could be pushed to GA status
Uruapan is currently rated as "C-Class" on the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mexico/Assessment#Quality_scale, but I think it's a much better article than that. Is there anyone who is familiar with Michoacán cities who could check if this is the case, and if so, could work on getting it reviewed and maybe push it to Good Article status? Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon
Hello WikiProject Mexico:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Clarification Request: Discrepancy in the Representation of Skin Tones in Mexico
Hello members of the WikiProject Mexico, I am writing to seek your assistance in addressing a matter of accuracy and representation in a Wikipedia article related to ethnicity and skin tones in Mexico.Talk:White Mexicans - Wikipedia
There is an ongoing discussion on the article's talk page concerning a statistic claiming that 47% of Mexicans have light skin (this is the actual document that have this reference a Encuesta Nacional sobre Discriminación en México 2010. Upon closer examination, it appears that the source cited for this statistic does not explicitly state this percentage. A user claims that in the page 7 said this , but Instead, it mentions that 54% of women and 40% of men self-identify as having the three lightest skin tones on a scale of 9. (you can find this values in this source Enadis-2010-RG-Accss-002.pdf (conapred.org.mx) page 40 and 41). The claim about 47% seems to be derived from a simple average of these percentages, which may not accurately represent the data. In addition to not correctly specifying the number of people, this user indicates that 47% of Mexicans are light-skinned instead of indicating that "they choose the 3 lightest tones of a scale of 9 colors), and in the development of the article indicates that up to 47% of Mexicans are white, because according to him, having a European phenotype is synonymous with being white. No academic publication supports this.
I believe that it's essential to maintain accurate and well-sourced information on Wikipedia, and I have concerns about the accuracy of this particular claim. Unfortunately, I am currently blocked from reply his remarks and cannot directly address this issue. Therefore, I am reaching out to you, experts in this field, for assistance.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your dedication to maintaining the quality and accuracy of information on Wikipedia. Kodosbs (talk) 23:58, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
LGBT culture in Puerto Vallarta
I have nominated LGBT culture in Puerto Vallarta for Good article status. If promoted, this would be Wikipedia's first Good article about LGBT culture in a specific locale, as for as I know. I have addressed concerns from the first nomination and made other improvements. I invite project members to offer feedback, make improvements, or pick up the nomination, if interested. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:02, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Starting this July, we will see a new contest on the scene - the Developing Countries WikiContest (WP:DCWC)! Think of it as a WikiCup but only for articles and media on developing countries.
Competitors may submit GAs, GTs, FAs, FTs, FLs, FPs, and DYK and ITN entries from/on developing countries to gain points and proceed to further rounds. Points are also awarded to those who review GAs, FAs and FLs.
Mexico is listed as a developing country for the purposes of this contest, so articles related to it are eligible to be submitted to the contest. I encourage everyone here to sign up and compete with editors from around the world to create high-quality content!

Finding sources for a State election.
Hello, I am not apart of Wikiproject Mexico, but I am currently working on a draft for an article about the 2013 Zacatecas State Elections (I started it as a translation from esWiki as a base). I am struggling to find reliable sources, and those I have found or adopted from the translation are contradictory- with both each other and esWiki content. Does anyone have any recommendations for institutions, archives, outlets, publications, etc. where I could find more sources or just general advice? Please inform me if I have asked this in the incorrect location. Thank you.
My draft is public, so I'll link it here: Draft:2013 Zacatecas State Elections Mason7512 (talk) 21:29, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
XEJ TV
Does anyone know if XEJ is broadcasting the Over the air broadcast? We used to get it on our antennna in El Paso and now a few days ago we lost this channel. Thanks 217.180.228.230 (talk) 17:40, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the very late response. I can provide a puzzle piece here: XEJ's authority to broadcast ended in 2021 and was not renewed. It seems the station is still broadcasting to someone, per Facebook, though. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 19:22, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
