Coordinators' working group
Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.
All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:47, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.
Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:19, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! I started fixing up Template:Ethnic groups in Kosovo. For some reason there was no Roma link, despite there being a big Roma in Kosovo article. Belgarde's Metro is a big project which I have delayed time and time again... so I dunno, I will put in what I can. If someone can find a map of where this thing highway is going, that would be great. (LAz17 (talk) 03:31, 14 June 2009 (UTC)).

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Many massacre articles for ex-Yugoslavia were tagged by Wikiproject death (including Talk:Bruška massacre, Talk:Ahmići massacre and Talk:Podujevo massacre). I removed these tags but have been asked to reinstate them. I believe it is insensitive to have the following template on the talkpages of these articles Wikipedia:WikiProject Death/Templates. Many relatives of those killed can look at these pages. Please make your opinions known on this here and keep a watch on this talkpage tagging. I have suggested that it is okay for wikiproject death to keep a view on these articles but that the project banner on the talkpages is not acceptable. Polargeo (talk) 06:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

please help add albanian names to wikipedia
We have started a project to add in all the albanian names to the places where albanians live, that would at least be a non disruptive effort to get people involved in the absolute basic wikipedia editing. I am coordinating the work first by listing the idea on the wiki Wikipedia:WikiProject_Kosovo/Attention_needed
The problem is that this wikihound, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tadija is consistently deleting my list of issues.
Here is the text that he removed :
The NPOV means that we should represent all names of all the people living there, so we should have the names in all the native languages of the residents.

- Kosovo District
- Peć District (Serbia)
- Prizren District (Serbia)

- Pomoravlje (region) - covers most of Kosovo, but does not mention it. Needs to be fixed.
- The cities in kosovo need to have the second level admin information (Municipalities) Municipalities_of_Kosovo we need to revisit them all. The should all be marked with a template.

Kosovo articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Kosovo articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Can someone please have a look at the contributions of Mrengjellprekazi, who is rapidly creating a slew of articles on apparently non-existent or very minor political parties in Kosovo? Very interesting program on a musical tradition called Kadja (or Kajda???) showed up on BBC's "The Strand" recently, you can find it here. (Is the spelling "kadja" really correct? Hiya! I'm a very pro-Kosovo(and anti-Serbian, I won't lie) American Jew (always declare one's biases) and I have found these articles on Kosovo's presidency extremely wanting.
President of Kosovo is little more than a list of the various Heads of State of Kosovo since 1944. There is no information saying how the President functions in the contemporary government and this must be fixed. From this stub: Kosovo presidential election, 2011 I gather that the Members of Kosovo's parliament elect the President. What are his powers though? What function does he serve? Is he like Israel's president (ceremonial head) or does he wield a good deal of power like Sarkozy (who I think is more powerful than a president in the US system)? Is it like our president who signs (and vetos) bills from Congress into law as well as makes Presidential orders? People need to know these things. Thanks! =) TheArchaeologist Say Herro 07:50, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Kosovo will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Kosovo's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 22:06, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Neutral help need with editorial dispute
Hi. Please see this discussion:
I'm an administrator assisting with WP:AIV (our vandalism noticeboard); there was a request to block one of the disputants which I declined since WP:AIV is for straightforward vandalism, not disruptive editing, edit wars, etc. Those issues are better suited to mechanisms such as dispute resolution.
Thanks for any help you can give this issue and our content. --A. B. (talk • contribs) 16:44, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Region code tagging for Kosovo?
Since Kosovo does not appear to have an ISO 3166 region or code at the moment, I've asked the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates for suggestions about the region: code we should we use when geotagging places in Kosovo. If anyone here can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. -- The Anome (talk) 15:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- As far as i know, Serbian ISO code was used in articles. That can continuity until Kosovo gain it's own code. --Tadija (talk) 15:54, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Then we should use the sub-region code RS-KM, which was/is (depending on your point of view) the code for Kosovo-Metohija, and should allow for easy recoding if/when the Republic of Kosovo is generally recognized and allocated its own ISO 3166 code. -- The Anome (talk) 18:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree completely! Do you know what is that code? Just RS-KM? :) --Tadija (talk) 19:07, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- According to page 29 of this, yes. -- The Anome (talk) 19:13, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

ISO code
I have been using the code "XK" in {{Coord}}, for places in Kosovo. Another editor has changed this to "RS-KM", saying
I've once again changed the ISO region codes in this article from XK to RS-KM. This is not a political statement; it's merely to achieve consistency throughout the English Wikipedia. This was the only article using the unofficial XK code, with all the other relevant articles using RS-KM (see Pristina, for example), and consistency will make it easier to search and replace should Kosovo eventually be assigned an official code. See also the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates/Archive 26#Region code for Kosovo?, and note that the use of XK as a code causes this article to pop up under "Unassigned top-level region code" on this error-check page.
I also note that ISO 3166-2:XK#XK says:
The code XK is being used by the European Commission, Switzerland, the Deutsche Bundesbank, and other organizations as a temporary country code for Kosovo.
I accept the technical arguments for using the older code; but wanted to raise the matter here as courtesy.
Your views would be welcome. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Usage on-wiki should reflect real-world usage wherever practical; we're not here to influence real-world usage. Although pedantic technical stuff is important, we have to be practical (ie. we say "Snoop Dogg", because that's common usage, even though the guy probably has a birth certificate & passport saying "Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.").
- So: What code do other sources & international bodies use nowadays? Usage can change over time, too, so we should pay more attention to the most recent examples. bobrayner (talk) 12:33, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Bear in mind that this is a technical switch to set properties in Geotemplate; not visible article content. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Just to throw in that the introductory material to that section of ISO 3166-2 says, "User-assigned code elements are codes at the disposal of users who need to add further names of countries, territories, or other geographical entities to their in-house application of ISO 3166-1, and the ISO 3166/MA will never use these codes in the updating process of the standard." So some individual organizations may use XK for in-house coding, but XK will never become an official ISO code for Kosovo. Should Kosovo get its own code, it won't be that one. Deor (talk) 13:17, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Therefor, code should stay as it is now, until (If ever) some new one Will be designated. Also, why would XK be for Kosovo? Pointless... --WhiteWriterspeaks 13:26, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- It's a code. It doesn't matter whether it's XK or ABC123!£; so long as it fulfills its technical purpose. Besides which, XK fits the defined specification. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:46, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

The articles Kosovar and Kosovo Albanians seem to be near-duplicates of each other, and I worry that Kosovar may be non-neutral in focusing so much on Kosovo Albanians rather than other ethnic groups. Languages of Kosovo
I think everyone here will agree that Albanian and Serbian are official languages of Kosovo. We use the Albanian and Serbian names for all place names in Kosovo on Wikipedia. However the issue is some of the minority languages in Kosovo such as Bosnian, Gorani, Romany and Turkish. These languages have official status at Municipality level in Kosovo. I propose that if a language is official at Municipality level, then we should include it along side Albanian and Serbian in the introduction and in the infobox. For example, in the Prizren Municipality, the Albanian, Serbian, Bosnian and Turkish languages are all official languages of the Municipality, therefore the articles for all towns and villages in the Prizren Municipality should include Turkish and Bosnian names alongside the Albanian and Serbian names. Your thoughts? IJA (talk) 09:19, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:44, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Hallo, City Tekke (Vučitrn) and Hamam Mosque (both of which I've met while stub-sorting) both use the template {{Infobox historic site}} which produces a bar saying "Invalid designation" because Kosovo monuments aren't one of the designations recognised by the infobox. I've asked for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Historic sites but without much success. If someone here is familiar with monuments in Kosovo they might like to try to get this sorted out. I see that in Albanian wiki there's a list but it doesn't have any online source. Over to you. PamD 15:50, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Update to peer review page
Hi all, I've boldly updated your project's peer review page (Wikipedia:WikiProject Kosovo/Peer review) by updating the instructions and archiving old reviews.
The new instructions use Wikipedia's general peer review process (WP:PR) to list peer reviews. Your project's reviews are still able to be listed on your local page too.
The benefits of this change is that review requests will get seen by a wider audience and are likely to be attended to in a more timely way (many WikiProject peer reviews remain unanswered after years). The Wikipedia peer review process is also more maintained than most WikiProjects, and this may help save time for your active members.
I've done this boldly as it seems your peer review page is pretty inactive and I am working through around 90 such similar peer review pages. Please feel free to discuss below - please ping me ({{u|Tom (LT)}}) in your response.
Cheers and hope you are well, Tom (LT) (talk) 23:11, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
First women MP(s) in Kosovo
Hello. I'm compiling a list of the first women MPs in each country, but have been unable to find the answer for Kosovo. I'm guessing they would have been elected in the 1945 Yugoslavian parliamentary election or possibly one of the early elections to the legislature of SR Serbia or SAP Kosovo. If anyone can point me to a definitive source, it would be much appreciated. Cheers, Number 57 18:10, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 21:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon
Hello WikiProject Kosovo:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!
