Al-Razi

Hello. Several pages which link to the surname Al-Razi clearly intend a specific person listed there, but it's not clear to me which one. Please can anyone help to fix the links? Thanks, Certes (talk) 14:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

I'm having similar problems with Ghazali. Some links are about the surname but most suggest a person. I am 90% certain that they're for Al-Ghazali but can't find any reliable sources to confirm. With contemporaries such as Ahmad Ghazali around, I would rather not guess. Please can someone help fix these links too? Certes (talk) 21:25, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
One more request while I'm here: {{Iran hospitals 1920}} has been on the Templates with disambiguation links list for a while now. Please can anyone identify the correct Naserabad and fix the link? Certes (talk) 11:32, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aurat (word)

The terms "Aurat", "Arvad", "Avret", and "Awrath" may refer to: Women of Asian religious or cultural descent and identity.

Self nomination for AFD since article copy pasted to Draft:Aurat for incubation because IMHO current article title Aurat (word) is misleading and confusing leading to western systemic bias and stifling the article growth. Please find Detail reason at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aurat (word)

I invite project members to review current and potential sourcing and weigh in on the AfD discussion. Thanks! Bookku (talk) 03:25, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello everyone. There's an RFC on the PMOI's page on a quote by its leader regarding killing of the kurds. --Mhhossein talk 08:27, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

An editor is trying to insert a long-debunked theory that Esther was a real person, a Jewish queen of Xerxes, rather than a fictional Biblical heroine whose historical novel the Book of Esther takes places at the court of Ahasuerus, a fictitious king. The purported veracity of the myth relies on the existence of the mythical Queen Vashti. This is despite all reliable sources saying that Achaemenid emperors did not have non-Persian, non-noble queens, and could not have had a fairytale marriage to a Jewish Cinderella. Editors with knowledge of the history of Iran would be much appreciated to help clear up this mess, which also pervades the Esther, Ahasuerus, and Book of Esther articles. Anyone read Farsi/Persian?

Does anyone here know Farsi/Persian? An IP editor is very quickly editing the birthdates of Iranian BLPs - please see Special:Contributions/115.132.140.3. I'm not sure if the editor is correcting the dates or adding in unsourced info (since I can't read the sources in many of the articles). Could someone check?

Cadusii and Gelae

Hi all Iranians! I want ask u about two anicient tribes Cadusii and Gelae. I saw very means sorces about both tribes and i can not understand what is true. I think Cadusii was scythian tribe and were two kings of Cadsuii Watafarna and Datafarn. The name of kings of Cadusii like name of kings of Hyrcania. I know hyrcanian were sycthian clans of parthian. Cadusii name of Gelae tribes from assyrian language and Cadusii mean hallow. But russia and azerbijan destroyed our history and very many authors saying Cadusii are not iranian tribe and they was cauasian tribe like hurrian. I think it is not true. I think the Talysh language is a descendant of the Gelae language. Gelae was tribe of scythian and had sarmatian or kimmerian connection. Before Caucasian Albania was only one kingdom in nowdays Azerbijan and name of this kingdom is Ishkuza(Ashkuza). Ashkuza was celt-scythian tribe. I want just help from my iranian brothers. I know history of iran and i defend iran always over all !!!Роман Арабов (talk) 20:59, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Notice

The article Dariush Grand Hotel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Iran Chamber Society

There is a discussion at WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard regarding the reliability of Iran Chamber Society, which is currently used as source on a number of Wikipedia articles related to Iran and its people. (For example, I count six references to Iran Chamber on the main article Iran.) Any insights regarding the reliability (or lack thereof) of this source, its editorial policies, and its reputation for fact-checking and accuracy are welcome. The link to the discussion can be found here. Thank you.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 22:26, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, unfortunately it's one of many bad sources that have flown under the radar over the years. I've been looking through it further from time to time over the last month, and it's exactly as was concluded on Talk pages and the RS noticeboard discussion. There isn't evidence of it being a reliable source, or really anything more than someone's private website. The pages on the website are either unattributed (presumably written by the site owner(s)) including the site's oft-cited and controversial Iran-Iraq War page, or attributed with name only and are copy-pastes from existing works or random posts on other random websites, as had been demonstrated in the RS noticeboard discussion. Saucysalsa30 (talk) 03:32, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

This was newly moved from a draft.

Some assurances that this school is (or is not) notable would be helpful, as would expansion if it is notable.

If this page has an equivalent in the Farsi Wikipedia, they should probably be linked. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:16, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Discussion about Silig on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Silig and possible claims of irredentism

There's a discussion about a ring found in what is now Azerbaijan which has an inscription dating to the era of Khosrow II. It's a candidate for deletion because I suspect we haven't been able to find reliable sources for it. However, anecdotally, some of my iranian friends have asserted that this ring, along with other historical evidence of Iranian presence, has been used to push an irredentist claim to the territory. I couldn't confirm this in english language sources, and since I can't read persian, I was wondering if anybody here could lend a hand in either confirming or refuting this assertion.

Have I discovered a hoax?

I'm looking at the article on Arekh. My attempts to find any kind of sources have been fruitless. Web searches on the name turn up only Wikipedia mirrors. I've tried to locate the sources given for the article, but my web searches turn up nothing for any of the books listed in the article. For that matter, I'm unable to find any indication that even the authors of these sources exist.

Could this page be a hoax? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 06:05, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

@Oiyarbepsy: I couldn't find any WP:RS sources either. I would say its a hoax. - LouisAragon (talk) 22:03, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles, including Iran related articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions and review our instructions page. You can apply for the user-right HERE. --John B123 (talk) 15:03, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Anyone able to provide insight on this AfD?

I don't understand Persian or Arabic and I'm concerned this article about this musician could be deleted. I understand canvassing rules, but, asking for help from folks who might read languages related to the subject isn't canvassing. Here is the AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hassan Shamaizadeh. Thanks! Missvain (talk) 15:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

A non-admin closed the Hassan Shamaizadeh AfD as "Keep" which I don't really agree with because many people suggested that it be draftified instead, but we're stuck with the decision. So the gentleman's article has survived but it badly needs citations and verification from older Persian and Arabic sources, many of which will probably be in books. WikiProject Iran members, please help out if you're able. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:52, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Babak Khorramdin (director)

Would some member of this WikiProject mind taking a look at Babak Khorramdin (director) and assessing it? It was created directly in the mainspace a few weeks back as a translation of a Persian Wikipedia article about the same person. The creator, however, was subsequently globally blocked for WP:SOCK and WP:LTA reasons and all of the other pages they created and files they uploaded were deleted per WP:G5. This article is the only one that remains because other editors started contributing to it after it was created. If the subject is not notable per WP:BIO, then WP:PROD and WP:AFD are always an option. A Wikimedia Commons administrator named 4nn112, on the other hand, seems to feel that the thing to do would be to WP:MOVE the article to Murder of Babak Khorramdin, but that would require quite a bit of re-writing. I don't understand Persian (Farsi?); so, even if I were to find sources the best I could do would be to use Google to translate them, which isn't the idea way to go about doing this. Perhaps a Persian native speaker could check the article, check the sources and see if there's something about it worth keeping, either as an article about Khorrmadin or an article about his murder. Just for reference, the same editor also created an article about Khorrmadin's father, but it was deleted per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Akbar Khorramdin. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:56, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Renovation of Iran's administrative division articles

It's my aim as an editor to help improve the quality of the representation of the administrative structure of Iran: counties, districts, cities, and rural districts. There seems to be a need to represent the structure at the time of the 2006 census (which is well within my abilities) and then delineate at some point through text and citations how drastically this structure has changed (not so easy). I have been adding coordinates to as many of the districts and rural districts as possible to give context and will continue to do so.

The article explaining shahrestans, bakhshes, shahrs, and dehestans is unnecessarily confusing and I will work on that. The Iranshahr County article that I recently edited contains a table that demonstrates how simple it really is.

The proliferation of counties, splitting of districts and elevation of villages to city status can be understood. The Persian side of Wikipedia has a tremendous amount of relatively up-to-date data, but I can't figure out how to cite these changes on the English side. That's down the road, but I will spend perhaps a year getting the first part done.

I have the complete set of spreadsheets from the 2006 census, but I can't seem to locate those similar documents for 2016 at a secure website. Help would be appreciated. In the meantime I have plenty to do to help make Iran's geography more comprehensible. Comments, questions, and criticism are welcome! Brightkingdom (talk) 21:14, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Assistance required to end deadlock in merger proposal discussion

I've been editing the articles relating to the Scythians over the course of several months, and since most editors tend to favour splitting pages after they reach a certain size, I split two further pages, Iškuza and Scythia, covering the phases of Scythian history respectively in West Asia and in Europe, out of the main page covering the Scythians.

However, trying to split it has resulted into three articles, with both Iškuza and Scythia requiring large amounts of material regarding the role of the prior and subsequent histories of the Scythians in the creation and destruction of those states copied from each other and from the Scythians page to exist since they are both about immediately preceding/succeeding states created by the same continuous population group. And because Iškuza and Scythia both cover immediately preceding/succeeding but also partially overlapping parts of the history of the Scythians, multiple sections and sub-sections of each page covering the culture, population, external relations, etc of these states also had to be copied from the Scythians page (e.g. the "Background" sub-section and "Society" section in Scythia, and the "Origins," "Impact," and "Legacy" sections of Iškuza). Moreover, the Scythia page as it exists now also functions as a WP:Semi-duplicate, given that most of the information relating to this polity also is also the same basic information that is required on the Scythians page.

Given this resulting situation, I have started a merger proposal to resolve this issue, per WP:MERGEREASON: Overlap, Context, not because I support a merger for the sake of merging itself, which I do not favour, but because Iškuza and Scythia require too much context and the information on these pages is too intertwined with each other.

The problem is that, despite months having passed, the discussion for the merger proposal is still at a deadlock, with three users opposed to the merger, and three users (including myself) in favour of it. In this difficult situation, I have been advised to bring this issue to the various WikiProjects which are relevant to Scythians as a way to possibly resolve the deadlock, and all good faith assistance to reach a consensus would be much welcome. New Article - Iranian democracy movement

Following upon a recent summit meeting of diaspora opposition leaders, but not limited to that group or event alone, We have made a new article: Iranian democracy movement that is intended as a WP:Broad concept article covering the political movements and many protests calling for regime change, and a new constitutional framework for Iran, in accord with the demands and aspirations of the Iranian people.

Please contribute. Thanks, Jaredscribe (talk) 22:37, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

RfC on recently deleted Article - Iranian democracy movement. Farsi editors needed.

The AfD discussion was closed by @User:Vanamonde93 with consensus to delete, discussion here: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Iranian_Democracy_Movement

It has been noted that the consensus does not preclude a future article on this topic, when more reliable sources are found to support it, and that it is not unlikely that scholarly literature on the 2017-2022 Iranian protests and Mahsa Amini protests are likely to emerge in the future. If there are not here already, but merely unknown to us mere Anglophones. We are seeking Farsi interpreters who can inform us how this mass-movement is named in the Farsi language media, and we need WP:RS confirming this so as not to violate the prohibition on WP:SYNTHetic claims. We also need to know how the subject matter is dealt with in the Farsi Wikipedia, and what the new name of the article, if any, should be. Thanks for you help. Jaredscribe (talk) 17:15, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

Article is now at User:Jaredscribe/Iranian_democracy_movements all good-faith contributors are welcome to edit and add to it. If there is a consensus in this project, I will move it out of my userspace into a subpage of this project, where it can be incubated until ready for publication. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. There is currently a discussion as to how to retitle the page October surprise conspiracy theory, which is part of this WikiProject. A prior RFC closed with a consensus to change the name of the page, but those supporting the change were roughly split between two options: 1980 October surprise theory and 1980 October surprise allegations. In a follow-up discussion, the vast majority of editors said that they would prefer either name, but a few expressed an opinion for just one or the other. As such, we are seeking wider community input. Thanks for reading!--Jerome Frank Disciple 22:14, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
