Access to Russian-language books about Caucasian/Dagestan folktales

[edit]
  • Ганиева, Айбике Мамедовна. Свод памятников фольклора народов Дагестана [Folkloric Collection from Peoples of Dagestan]. Тom. 2: Волшебные сказки [Tales of Magic]. Мoskva: Наука, 2011. pp. 175-179 (Tale nr. 11), 378-383 (Tale nr. 42), 523-526 (Tale nr. 60). ISBN 978-5-02-037393-8.

For Animal as Bridegroom.

The tales seem to be variants of ATU 425. I believe that there is a section named "Типологический анализ сюжетов" ("Typological Analysis", or something to that effect), near the end of the book. If there is such a section, it has most likely classification and commentary on the tales. I just need for tales 11, 42 and 60.

For these, in short: for convenience, the first pages of the tales in their original languages, with the original language names; plus the Russian translations plus commentaries (if they exist).

  • Ганиева, Айбике Мамедовна. Свод памятников фольклора народов Дагестана [Folkloric Collection from Peoples of Dagestan]. Тom. 2: Волшебные сказки [Tales of Magic]. Мoskva: Наука, 2011. pp. 278-281 (original language text), 281ff (Russian translation for tale nr. 28). ISBN 978-5-02-037393-8.

For The Dancing Water, the Singing Apple, and the Speaking Bird.

(Same book, but I separated the request) Tale nr. 28 in this collection is titled "Арц-Издаг" ("Silver Izdag"), mentioned in the article as one of the variants from the Dargin people. Adding a request for the Russian translation and commentaries on tale nr. 28.

Thanks, KHR FolkMyth (talk) 22:31, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doing... (probably Wednesday). Maybe, I guess I don't fully understand the request (the same is true for the one below). You give a page range and then you elaborate on all sorts things that you need and that you're interested in. Why? Are you unsure about the page range? Is the other stuff requested in addition to the stated page range? Generally, I will likely be unable to follow any "search instructions" on account of not speaking a word of Russian. — Pajz (talk) 21:53, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the help. For clarification: each tale in the original language is followed by a Russian translation. These tales are not grouped by tale type, but are spread through the publication (I don't know the reason for that, maybe for printing purposes?). The Russian translations for tales 11, 42 and 60 are indicated, but I would also like the pages for their original titles, for completion purposes. As for the second request; pp. 278-281 is the Dargin language text, and on pp. 281 begins the Russian translation, which I suppose goes on to page 285 or 286. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 23:06, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's helpful. — Pajz (talk) 19:59, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DanCherek I'm working on improving the article route inspection problem and I am wondering if the time it takes to find an article is usually pretty fast.
I'm finding a lot of articles behind paywalls and am encouraged by the fast response for this article.
Is this typical? I will start asking for more articles. ScientistBuilder (talk) 21:49, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ScientistBuilder, it depends on the article but never hurts to ask because folks around here can access different kinds of resources. Sometimes you might get it pretty quickly; there might be other times when no one has easy access and the request gets archived after a few months. DanCherek (talk) 21:55, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the articles I need are through Springer Nature. ScientistBuilder (talk) 21:58, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ZaniGiovanni: Does a look here help? -- Doc Taxon (talk) 16:25, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The link Doc Taxon posted is machine learning data, fed from Wikipedia and other sources.
The English news builletin from Tanjug is in the British Library Daily/Weekly. I could not find any reprints archived in newspapers.com or newspaperarchives.com. The citation is quite ambiguous, it might also be a translated headline from a Serbian language publication. Finding this is probably a challenge. It is an open access (and Creative Commons–licensed) article so there should not be any paywalls, etc. You can either scroll down to read the full text, or click the "Download PDF" button: [5]. 2002 Brentwood Gazette interview

[edit]

The Statutory Inquiry onto the British Post Office scandal recently heard of a "2002 Brentford Gazette interview with Baljit Sethi" (Sethi was a sub-postmaster). I appreciate this is a vague description, but is anyone able to furnish a copy, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:37, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is no paper with the exact name "Brentford Gazette" in the British Library catalogue. Published at the time, there's Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth times (1983-2008) and Brentford & Chiswick informer (2001-2009). This isn't really findable with that citation, since one would have to look through two full years worth of microfilm. RoseCherry64 (talk) 10:58, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I'm now told this was the Brentwood Gazette, from May 2002. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:57, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update 2: The Inquiry teams have now placed the clipping online; here, titled as above. It's by Ben Hall, but is undated. Can anyone date it? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:38, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ScientistBuilder: The top of this page says: We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please indicate if you would like specific pages or a particular chapter from the book. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 11:52, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would like Chapter 3 please. ScientistBuilder (talk) 19:08, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chapter 3 is very well written.
Would you be willing to send me Chapters 1-5? ScientistBuilder (talk) 21:00, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DanCherek I would actually like to request Part I of the book, Chapters 1-6 that focuses on Arc Routing Problems with a Single Vehicle.
I hope this is okay for copyright. ScientistBuilder (talk) 21:02, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@ScientistBuilder: Yes Sent DanCherek (talk) 21:06, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have finished the first chapter. I would like to request one more chapter now. ScientistBuilder (talk) 23:40, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way I can eventually read the whole book? ScientistBuilder (talk) 19:04, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that there are copyright restrictions but as I work through the subject of arc routing problems slowly I would like to see the whole book. @DanCherek ScientistBuilder (talk) 19:05, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just speaking for myself, I'm not really comfortable sharing the whole thing, sorry. You could see if your local or national library (or an institution that you're affiliated with) can obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription, or whether the Google Books preview is sufficient. Other options are above, in #Tips for finding a source yourself. DanCherek (talk) 19:08, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have a hard copy version. ScientistBuilder (talk) 20:55, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In the future is there a way to request the second part by reopening this request? I would like to have a digital copy in addition to a physical copy I checked out with EZ Borrow at my university library, because sometimes digital copies are easier to transport or locate. If the answer to this is no, chapters 1-6 is the max for now, I will mark the issue as resolved. @DanCherek ScientistBuilder (talk) 20:57, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have a digital copy that my library ordered and a hard copy so I will mark this as resolved. ScientistBuilder (talk) 18:55, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Need article from The Chautauquan, 1887

[edit]

Hi all--I need an article from the US magazine The Chautauquan, vol. 7, 1887, pp. 416-418. The article is "Sidney Lainer", by Thomas Wentworth Higginson. I can't find it in Hathitrust and don't really know where else to look. Thanks so much! Drmies (talk) 20:28, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Drmies: Yes Sent (via my institutional access to ProQuest 125223213). DanCherek (talk) 20:32, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also here on HathiTrust. DanCherek (talk) 20:37, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DanCherek, you deserve a medal. I don't understand why it didn't show up in my search--wait, I had checked "Catalog", thinking that was the way to go in HathiTrust, but I still don't quite get it. Anyway, I really appreciate your help. Drmies (talk) 20:41, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
