The Military history WikiProject's September–October 2014 backlog reduction drive has now closed. Thanks to all who contributed!
About the drive
[edit]The backlog reduction drive is a six-week effort to reduce the backlog of military history articles needing attention and military history articles with incomplete B-Class checklists. These articles have been flagged as needing particular types of improvement to achieve B-Class status; by reducing the backlog, the drive will simultaneously help the project achieve its 10% B-Class milestone target. The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 September and runs through 23:59 UTC on 15 October.
A brief explanation of the B-Class criteria is available here, and more detailed information on meeting the criteria is available in this FAQ.
Scoring
[edit]You will receive points for each article you improve, based on the category in which it is listed. If an article is listed in more than one category, you can submit it multiple times, once for each category of improvement you make. You will receive points for each category so long as it is assessed as meeting the B-class criteria for that category following your improvements. As such, once you have improved an article, it should be listed at WP:MHA for independent assessment. Please do not self assess articles you have improved.
Serial | Category | Points |
---|---|---|
1 | Military history articles needing attention to coverage and accuracy | 25 points per article |
2 | Military history articles needing expert attention | 15 points per article |
3 | Military history articles needing attention to referencing and citation | 15 points per article |
4 | Military history articles needing attention to grammar | 10 points per article |
5 | Wikipedia requested photographs of military history | 10 points per article |
6 | Military history articles needing attention to structure | 5 points per article |
7 | Military history articles needing attention to supporting materials | 5 points per article |
8 | Military history articles with incomplete B-Class checklists | 5 points per article |
9 | Assessing articles listed at WP:MHA | 5 points per article |
10 | Unassessed military history articles | 5 points per article |
To qualify for the points detailed above for the first seven categories, you must have contributed to the article content within the scoring period (i.e. made edits to the article that resulted in it being removed from the appropriate category). Points are also offered for articles that are removed from the eighth category by assessment action only (i.e. you complete an incomplete B class checklist) and the ninth category if you assess an article listed at WP:MHA (if an article meets both of these criteria, you may list it twice). Points are also offered if you assess an article in the tenth category (i.e. an article that had not previously been assessed at all). In this regard, 5 points are offered per article you assess against the B-class criteria during the drive. Articles that are not in these categories, for instance, those already classified as stubs at the start of the contest, do not qualify.
Awards
[edit]As a token of our appreciation for your efforts, the coordinators will be presenting service awards and barnstars based on the number of articles you improve. The awards will not be cumulative, rather each participant will qualify for a single award based on the total number of points you accumulate.

How to participate
[edit]To take part in the drive, please add your name to the list of participants; the exact syntax will be displayed when you edit the section.
Then, in alphabetical order, please create a new worklist section for yourself; as before, the exact syntax will be displayed when you edit the page.
Now you can begin working on articles in the categories listed above. For each article:
- Fix the listed problem by editing the article or update the assessment checklist in the {{WPMILHIST}} tag on the article's talk page;
- If you have improved the content of the article, request assessment at WP:MHA once you have completed your improvements (not required for minor technical fixes such as adding a photograph or removal of a maintenance tag - in this regard, just remove the photo request from the talkpage or the tag yourself); and
- List the article under the appropriate category in your worklist section.
If you fix an article that's listed in multiple categories, please list it separately under each applicable category.
