The approach of the sesquicentennial in 2011 of the start of the Civil War has inspired a drive to improve related Wikipedia articles to featured status, and to see as many of these as possible appear on the main page on their respective 150th anniversaries. Such date-specific articles will include the American Civil War page itself, as well as those of major battles. Other articles within the scope of this drive will include key political and military leaders, and certain general aspects of the conflict. The list of articles currently targeted for improvement appears below, and will be added to subject to discussion on drive's talk page. If you are interested in participating in this drive, please add your name and specialties to the Contributors table, and any resources you can access to the Sources list.
Articles on battles should be targeted on the date(s) which is the battle's 150th Anniversary. Battles lasting more than one day are to be targeted for any of the dates which compose its 150th Anniversary with the primary emphasis being on gaining Featured Article status on the first day of that battle.
The authors of biographical articles should select three dates which are the 150th Anniversary of dates during the American Civil War on which the article's subject performed actions of particular note. These three dates will constitute the targeted dates for Featured-article status.
The following articles are, thus far, included within the scope of the American Civil War sesquicentennial drive. If you would like to suggest an article for inclusion in the scope of the effort, please do so on the discussion page.
Please add your names and specialties to the list below:
A 10 fireplane (talk·contribs) mostly small edits, good with the ships of that era so if you need any information on the CSS Virginia or USS Monitor ect. PING me
Historical Perspective(talk·contribs·count) – Primarily Massachusetts units and leaders but have read extensively on most of the major campaigns/theatres, strongest when it comes to the Army of the Potomac. Willing to work on any aspect of this effort.
LeonidasSpartan (talk·contribs) – Confederate history would be my strongest suit. I work on most anything though.
Mojoworker (talk·contribs) – I'm willing to work on the Department of the Northwest as well as most any part of this project. I may have some references that could be useful.
Wild Wolf (talk·contribs) – Mostly battles and campaign histories, especially referencing.
Zaldax (talk·contribs) – I'm willing to help with most anything, including research to fill in the gaps. I'm especially supportive of any aim to get Antietam featured by its sesquicentennial date, as I've been to that battlefield more times than I can count.
