Welcome to the WW2 Anniversary group, an initiative of the Military history WikiProject.
Purpose & scope
[edit]Overall, the coverage of World War II is far from what it should be. At the moment over 91% of the articles are stub or start articles. The OMT special project has produced a few articles falling in the scope of the project, but clearly much more is needed to cover the core topics of World War II. This concerns the campaigns, the weapons and the people.
So the idea is to set up a Special Project, in some ways analogous to the Great War project, which would to improve the core topics of World War II...

Goals
[edit]The project goals are spread over the next four years. The important final date for the project is September 2, 2015, which is the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The project will be split into several phases.
- Phase 0: This is the current stage, where the project needs to gather enough support and manpower to fully appear.
- Phase I: At this stage, the aim is to cover and improve to at least GA the most important and visited topics relating to World War II. They are:
- World War II to Featured Article
- Countries' Leaders (Heads of State, Heads of Government, important ministers), Military Leaders (Commanders of Army Groups/Fronts/Theatres)
- Links from this template
- Phase II: At this stage the aim is to create good and featured topics, and not just individual articles. The topics include:
- Campaigns: all the major campaigns of World War II. This means that their battles too must GA or above.
- Equipment: although Operation Majestic Titan already covers battleships, the entire range of the main weapons of the war need to be covered:
- Rifles
- Tanks
- Aircraft
- Artillery
- Other equipment
- People: Army/Fleet level commanders, famous tank or air aces, key weapon designers
- Units: Army Groups/Fronts, Armies, Fleets, Air Fleets
- Phase III: if this stage is reached before the 70th anniversary, the minimum objective has been completed. This stage is to add detail to other topics of the war:
- Less known campaigns and operations of the war (Operation Chastise for example), anything not covered earlier.
- Equipment: prototypes, uncommon weapons, anything not covered during Phase II (e.g. T-43 tank)
- Units: Corps, Divisions, for smaller countries even battalions.
- People: Notable commanders at corps or even division level, other notable people
Other tasks
[edit]- Library: a lot of articles do not get to even B-class because either sources are missing, or there is an edit war due to conflicting sources. The aim is to create a reference guide that would give someone an easy way to check if a particular source is appropriate, reliable and reflecting modern view on the subject.
