You are invited! Join us remotely!

World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

  • Dates: 8 to 29 November 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR) in collaboration with Women scientists: Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!
  • Sponsor: New York Academy of Sciences
  • Event details: This is a virtual edit-a-thon hosted by WiR in parallel with a "phyisical" event during the afternoon of Sunday, November 22 in New York City. It will allow all those keen to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women in science to participate. As the virtual edit-a-thon stretches over three weeks, new participants will be able to draw on the assistance of more experienced editors while creating, translating or improving articles on women who are (or have been) prominent in the field. All levels of Wikipedia editing experience are welcome.

The campaignbox of the "Naderian wars" doesn't have a show button and is instead permanently expanded. There should be a show/hide function but it's absent for some reason. I am not sure how this has happened and who is responsible. I am asking whether or not you know how to fix this template?

If you would kindly provide a link to what you are asking about, I will be happy to take a look. Zpeopleheart (talk) 01:07, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I found what you are talking about. The show hide function works fine on my side. There is no need to adjust the coding. You might want to try purging your cache or try a different broswer. If you need to edit the template just click on the E in the VTE section. Hope that helps. Zpeopleheart (talk) 01:26, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. everything is sorted. Parsa1993 (talk) 04:32, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Saturday April 30, 1-6pm: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa @ Guggenheim
File:Monir Portrait-exh ph021.jpg

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue

Sunday June 5, 12-5pm: Women in Jewish History Edit-a-thon

Join us for a full Sunday of social Wikipedia editing at the Center for Jewish History (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to Women in Jewish History.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required.

Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives.

A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Make edits! Ask questions! Be bold!

Time: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues), New York City, New York 10011

words from a retired ghost user

Hello!

justa note that your reverts at Draft:Suzanne Sagendorph Welsh actually added back quotations that did not have sources. For example, your revert added back this quote, for which no source is provided: "I first met Suzanne Welsh in the 1960s when my then wife acquired one of her decorated settees. She was very fond of her work and subsequently we sought her out in Ardmore to see and occasionally acquire other examples."

You also restored this quote, which I had removed as it contained no source: "Of all the people I have ever known, Suzanne S. Welsh was one of my very favorites. As a frequent visitor to the Ardmore home, I looked forward to that incredibly distinctive welcome. Her voice will be forever ringing in my ears. Its was part of the joy she brought to everyone. I have no doubt that the button lady was unique in my life and certainly to all who had the privilege to know her. The rocker in my office will forever be a fixture. Such beautiful handwork."

I see from the block log that you are just coming off a six month block, which appears to be a second block for disruptive editing. I'm thinking that the above revert of unsourced quotes could be considered disruptive by some, and would encourage you not to make edits like this. My originial removal of this material was just fine, as it contained no source for the quotes. Happy editing! HappyValleyEditor (talk) 21:01, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is a poor practice and considered disruptive editing to slice out huge chunks of an article during the time which said article is at AFD. Go make your threats to someone else. It is very bad faith for you to try to advise me after you sliced diced, and threw out the bath water on that article. The article is AFD, maybe you should try there. Otherwise you could always go to the talk page of said article, rather than come to try and bully and intimadate me. Go away now. Zpeopleheart

Thoughts

Per [1], if you want to continue to work on the article, ask any admin to WP:USERFY it into your own user space. I've done that in a few cases where I took a personal interest in the topic. Montanabw(talk) 00:08, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Ma'am.I wrote on the guys page that closed it to ask. How does that work will I suddenly appear in my sandbox. I think I have a good plan for a good rewrite with better citations. I have the two books now that prove the two quotes. Plus I have an idea about where to find better sources for some of the other parts of the article. Could you maybe do me the favor of looking the beer one I will make to give an opinion to me if the sources are better? I do thank you and some of the others coming forward to assist me in trying to find better sources. Maybe if we all at WiR stick together we can get past these needless deletions of the notable woman's articles. Zpeopleheart (talk) 17:53, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

[edit]

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)
