Speedy deletion of Eric Casebolt

Can you please double check the speedy deletion of Eric Casebolt? I contested an A7 on it last night after I saw it on NPP; at the time it had a credible claim of significance in the article (patrolman of the year award). I sent it to AfD, but I did not see any valid speedy deletion reasons. VQuakr (talk) 19:05, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

I considered this, but I don't consider the medal to be a suitable indicator of significance; it can be awarded arbitrarily by any local chapter of the SAR (which is a private corporation, not a government body) and so is not a notable award. What you have, then, is an article which says, "this guy got a minor award from his club, and was later suspended from his job." That's not in any way an indication of significance; it's a description which could apply to hundreds if not thousands of non-notable individuals. If you're desparate to try and make an article out of it, I'll restore it to your sandbox for you (just ask), but I have doubts that it will ever meet he basic article requirements. Yunshui  07:24, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Meh. I had sent it to AfD and it has BLP concerns; probably not worth restoring just to better fit procedure. Can the article be G4'd if it is recreated even though the AfD was closed when the article was speedied? VQuakr (talk) 15:29, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Not legitimately; AFDs without any !votes are generally treated the same way as PRODs. If someone recreates it (and they quite probably will, there were photos of him sitting on some girl's head even my local media) it'll need to be addressed as though it's basically a new article - CSD if it's applicable, AFD/PROD if not.
Incidentally, I don't want to give the impression that I just brushed off your concerns on the article's talkpage - I read your message contesting the speedy, and it gave me pause, but ultimately I just don't think there's enough of a case for notability from the SAR award. If it was something like the Los Angeles Police Medal of Valor then fair enough, but an award from the SAR isn't even a genuine "police" award in the States. You're always welcome to contest my admin decisions if you think I've made a mistake, and I'm grateful to you for doing so! Yunshui  19:03, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Feel free to watchlist 2015 Texas pool party incident; this video went viral on a slow news week... VQuakr (talk) 03:50, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Silly season's here already, eh? The redirect looks like a much better idea. Yunshui  14:38, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Aikido

Do you have any impression on the video that was just added to the Aikido article. It was part of a serial addition of videos which I found not well placed or thought out. I removed the one in Jujutsu since it clearly did not represent a good general example but I am somewhat hesitant to do that for the aikido one. I admit to not liking it and don't think that it is truely representative of what aikido is - but then again the idea of a video example is not that bad. I can't replace it with one of my favorites since that would probably raise someone else's hackles. Any thoughts?Peter Rehse (talk) 15:48, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@PRehse: I'm all in favour of including a video in the article; it's a great idea. That said, I'm not convinced this is the most appropriate one - the production values are pretty high, and the aikido is adequate, but it's all suwari waza. While we spend a fair amount of time on our knees (no sniggering at the back), it's hardly representative of aikido as an art.
That said, we're then in the position of having to decide which version of aikido gets a video representation - do we show Aikikai, Shodokan, Yoshinkan, Shin Shin Toitsu, Iwama, Kobayashi, Yushinkai, Yoseikan... there are lots of contenders, and whichever style is shown will invite the inevitable, "That's not aikido; what I do is aikido", talkpage arguments. If we're going to have video footage, I'd suggest we try and find a good video of Ueshiba doing his thing; I'm not sure there are any freebies out there (perhaps some of the stuff from very early on might be PD by now) but I reckon there's a good argument to be made for Fair Use in this case. Yunshui  07:33, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Those were my thoughts in a nutshell. I would also rather see Tachi waza.Peter Rehse (talk) 07:38, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Great minds, etc. Now all we have to do is find a suitable replacement; don't suppose you've got anything to hand? Yunshui  07:40, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
I like this one but it really is too Shodokan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJs-2Uhjtk8
Had a chance to watch that now. Amazing carriage - he just radiates awareness and focus. Thanks for sharing. Yunshui  18:52, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
@PRehse: I've been in touch with Guillaume Erard, who's got a ton of footage from various All-Japan Aikido demonstrations; he's very kindly offered to put a compilation together for use on the article. Yunshui  14:35, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
Well let's see what he comes up with. The All-Japan Aikido demos are of course Aikikai but that is not really an issue in itself. The one I like would have the same issue just a different style. What I do hope is that something a little more generic that one could be comfortable with as Aikido no matter what the background. Some suwariwaza is fine but for sure is should not dominate. I would also suggest that we don't have the main shihan of a particular style.Peter Rehse (talk) 15:00, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

are you available for anti-vandal training? I have been doing RCP for a bit of time. I am in PT (GMT-8). --Fazbear7891 (talk) 03:46, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Fazbear7891. If you're deemed competent enough for rollback, there's probably very little I can teach you, to be honest. I wouldn't have thought you needed any further training in anti-vandalism. Yunshui  07:23, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

ISBN missing

Thanks for your answer to my question in the Tea House "Where is the page of all articles that contain the template {{ISBN missing}}?". Spot on. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 16:03, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Draft is messed up

I created a draft called Draft:Gameknight999 (book series) and I removed the Draft template line (the first one) and now the article is messed up and I think it might stay a draft forever and I don't want to have to recreate the article it took about 3 hours to make. Can you fix it please?--72.94.148.67 (talk) 21:37, 12 June 2015 (UTC) Ok,I created an account and I'm going to try to undo the edit,I keep forgetting the latest edit is on the top.-Minedigger (talk) 11:36, 13 June 2015 (UTC) Fixed it-Minedigger (talk) 11:40, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Glad you were able to fix it. From the looks of things you're going to need more sources before the draft gets accepted - have a look at WP:NBOOK and see what evidence you can find that your subject meets thoise criteria. Yunshui  07:20, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Human Rights page - vandalism

Hi Yunshui

I noticed the following nonsense words on the page regarding "European Convention on Human Rights": "Rammus" and "ducknappings"

Paragraph 2: 'Judgments finding violations are binding on the States concerned and they are obliged to Rammus them. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe monitors the execution of ducknappings, particularly to ensure...'

I didn't correct the article as I wasn't sure what the original words were.

Kind regards

Gavin, UK 92.30.165.194 (talk) 22:28, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Gavin. There was an earlier revert than mine which had only removed one of two consecutive vandalism edits - I've now reverted back to an older version which has fixed the problem. Yunshui  07:22, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of Harry Lewis (Gamer)

hello sir, i just wanted to ask u that why did u delete the page Harry Lewis (Gamer). he is a youtube celebrity, he has over 4.5 million subscriber, almost a billion views, they are many people on wiki with even less subscribers and views. He came on news, he is even on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_YouTube_personalities#W. If the content wasn't satisfying enough please give me the content so i could work on it more. Regards Immu 01 (talk) 08:43, 17 June 2015 (UTC)immu01

@Immu 01: Userfied to User:Immu 01/Harry Lewis (Gamer). Viewer/subscriber numbers aren't an arbiter of notability; you'll need to come up with multiple, reliable, independent sources to verify his inclusion in Wikipedia. Yunshui  08:57, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

he came on the show comedy central , he was mentioned in the magazine http://teneightymagazine.com/2015/05/04/weekly-round-up-27-3-may-2015/. and how can i get the content back. if i want to improve it. Immu 01 (talk) 09:27, 17 June 2015 (UTC)immu01

Cool, add citations for those and you'll probably have a usable article. I've restored the entire thing, not just the most recent revision, so you have all the content at the userpage draft linked above. Yunshui  09:29, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

thanks alot!! Immu 01 (talk) 09:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)immu01

and can u restore the full thing please! Immu 01 (talk) 09:33, 17 June 2015 (UTC)immu01

Not sure what you mean by "the full thing" - every page revision has been restored. If you want to revert to an earlier version, you can do so in the page history. Yunshui  09:35, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Actually, having said that I've now deleted some revisions due to serious BLP violations. Given the degree of vandalism this page received in the single day it was up, I suspect you'll need to keep a close eye on it. Yunshui  09:41, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Could u check the draft and tell me that will it match with wiki guideline Immu 01 (talk) 09:50, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

and the things that dont have a reference are sent to me by Harry himself via e-mail Immu 01 (talk) 09:52, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

At present, you have only one usable source (teneighty magazine) and even that is comparatively weak. The subject's YouTube profile and the YouTube wikia are not reliable, independent sources. There's no way this would be accepted in its current state, sorry. Ditch all the YouTube and Wikia references and find something better. Personal emails are useless as sources, for the same reasons. Yunshui  09:54, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

A7 speedy of Harry_Lewis_(Gamer)

Was wondering if you could perhaps help the editor User:XI_Ki11JoY_IX get started with writing the article in draft space since you performed the delete. Cheers! ELee 20:01, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

He/she's a very intermittent editor - I'd be happy to restire to draft/userspace if requested (although it seems pretty pointless, given the prior content of the article), but XI_Ki11JoY_IX would need to ask me themselves and commit to working on the page. Yunshui  07:12, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Not sure how this thing works, but i would be fine with the page being created per request of the actual person, rather than the fans who eventually abused it - KillJoY

That's not really how Wikipedia works - we don't create or edit articles about people simply because those people ask us to (and conversely, we don't delete articles about people at their request either). Immu 01, who created the initial version of the article, has now got a version of the page in their userspace to work on (see the thread below); if they bring it up to standard it can be moved back to mainspace. Vandalism

I am feeling rather pleased with myself because I spotted an error in Wikipedia that was deliberately introduced into Catshark by an apparently new editor 13 months ago. Admittedly I found it by chance, but I thought the statement "Catsharks are found in temperate and tropical seas worldwide, ranging from very shallow intertidal waters to depths of 3 m (9.8 ft) or more, depending on species" seemed a bit odd so I looked up the source cited. I found that the maximum depth should be 2000 metres not 3 and that had been what the article stated until 20th May 2014. I left a warning notice on the Jaboober123's talk page but he had only ever made a single edit. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:16, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

I hate it when subtle vandalism like that sits around for months. Nicely done. Yunshui  07:27, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Reliable sources

Can you do me a favour and take a look at Tadashi Abe. It was put up for AfD (I think in response to my AfDing another article) but that's not the issue. Several references from the ariticle were removed as being non-RS but, and this is why I'm asking, that included Aikido Journal and AikiNews. This has pretty strong ramifications for a lot of aikido articles. I do think Aikido Journal (which in its AikiNews form) was actually published is a reliable source as is the Aikido Encyclopedia which was also published in hard form - but is it? Is there a way to have that determined? And if not what does that mean for the majority of aikido articles? Should they be removed like that?Peter Rehse (talk) 20:31, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Given that both sources are used in Aikido itself, and that that article got to Featured status with both sources included, I would say they've been adjudged by the community to be reliable.
As regards the Abe nomination, it would be a sorry encyclopedia that left him out; I doubt there's a single serious Aikido practitioner in the Western world who doesn't know of him. id on't have a lot of time today but I'll have a look around tomorrow and see if there are any more sources that might be suitable. Yunshui  07:26, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Personally I always got confused by the various Abe's - yes I think a few more sources would be great.Peter Rehse (talk) 15:16, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Well, I've spent several hours over the last two days looking for online sources - beyond what's already there (and mirrors of the same) there's nothing that I can see would meet the RS guidelines. (The one time I thought I'd found something useful, it turned out to be about Kenshiro Abbe - so I can fully understand your Abe confusion!) It's a real shame. Personally I think what's already in the article is sufficient to warrant keeping it, and I suspect there are offline sources available, especially in Japanese. However, the search for more sources has petered out for me, sorry. Yunshui  08:23, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks - that mirrors my own attempt.Peter Rehse (talk) 09:21, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Talk Page Etiquette

Hi Yunshui,

Thanks for the prompt response to my appeal in ArbCom titled 'Talk Page Etiquette'. You asked me to go to Dispute Resolution first. I went there, and chose request for Mediation for the concerned page which is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Adi_Shankara , but it is not letting me file the appeal at the Mediation page. I am seeing on my screen the following words:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:The page title or edit you have tried to create has been restricted to administrators at this time. It matches an entry on the local or global blacklists, which is usually used to prevent vandalism.

If you receive this message when trying to edit, create or move an existing page, follow these instructions:

Any administrator can create or move this page for you. Please post a request at the Administrators' noticeboard. You may also contact any administrator on their talk page or by email. Be sure to specify the exact title (especially by linking it) of the page you are trying to create or edit, and if it might be misunderstood (for example, an article with an unusual name), consider explaining briefly what you want to do. If you wrote any text, save it temporarily on your computer until you can edit the page.

Thank you.

Are you able to help me? Soham321 (talk) 10:12, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

That's odd; neither WP:DRN (where you should have gone) or WP:RFM (where you apparently went) are page protected, and the above looks like a blacklist match, which is very strange. What were the actual steps (i.e. the links you clicked and the content you entered) that you took? Yunshui  10:34, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I first went to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation . Then i copy-pasted the following page in the request box: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Adi_Shankara Soham321 (talk) 10:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
(It's worth noting, of course, that you are completely in the wrong here; Joshua's edits were perfectly in accordance with WP:TPO, whereas yours were clear violations. Any sanctions that your persistent raising of this issue generates will be directed at you.) Yunshui  10:38, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
The issue here is not about the content in any edits, it is about whether one is permitted to transfer edits in a talk page from one section header (header title) to another, remove section headers, and transfer one's own edits and also edits of others from an earlier section header to a newly created section header. Soham321 (talk) 10:52, 2 July 2015 (UTC) The matter seems to have been resolved now since he has recreated the earlier header and re-introduced the edits in the headers as they were existing before he started moving them around from one header title to another. Soham321 (talk) 10:53, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Fixing layout errors in this way is permitted by the talkpage guidelines. Removing other editors' messages is not. I'm not interested in discussing this with you; several editors, myself now included, have explained to you why you were in the wrong and you still refuse to listen. Yunshui  10:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
This will be my last response to you in this matter unless you wish to discuss further. This is a quote from the link you gave:

When a long discussion has many indents, the discussion may be awkward to read, particularly on smaller screens. Eventually, for everyone's convenience, a replying editor will "start over" by responding without any colons at all. The

template can be used for this purpose.

But when you do the "start over" you are still remaining within the same section header. It is not the same as moving an edit from one section header to another section header, deleting a section header permanently, or moving an edit (your own as well as of others) from an earlier section header to a newly created section header. It makes it difficult to follow talk page discussions and know what exactly is going on if edits start being transferred from one section header to another; an edit which is a reply to some edit is transferred and made to appear as being a reply to some other edit. Whether i was in the wrong in reverting him is a separate matter. In retrospect i was indeed wrong to have reverted him and i apologize both to you and i will also apologize to him. Polymath7.mm (talk) 13:38, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello Yunshui! I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about your SPI you opened. I learned that a page I had previously been interested in, Francisco D'Agostino was deleted by a user discovered in your SPI, Secretsources. I am wondering what was the abuse this user was doing. Was it someone active on E-Lance or something doing paid edits?

Here is my concern: On Derwick Associates there was a user, User:FergusM1970, who admitted to have been paid to edit the page and remove any controversy from the page. Then, the page, and those of its owners have undergone considerable sock puppet campaigns. Here was one that was proven: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Naruto2839/Archive

Its apparent that the actual firm was very concerned about its image and paid for people to get this content off. Francisco D'Agostino is one of the principal's involved in the case and his page was deleted by this user uncovered in your SPI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Francisco_D%27Agostino). So I am wondering, what was the nature of their abuse? Were these accounts used for paid editing on Wikipedia? Is there enough evidence for me to conclude my suspicions hold water?

Would love to hear back from you. Righteousskills (talk) 02:00, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

@Righteousskills: To be honest, I've had very little involvement in this since the SPI concluded. You might be able to get a better picture of the events from Joseph2302, who subsequently did some really sterling work reviewing and cleaning up the edits made by this sockfarm. Whilst I have my suspicions regarding it being a PR firm, I've no hard evidence to that effect.
As far as Francisco D'Agostino goes, the AFD was a SOFTDELETE, meaning that it can be treated as a successful proposed deletion - you can ask any admin to restore it at WP:REFUND if you want it back. Yunshui  08:10, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
I don't know anything about Francisco D'Agostino, but I can explain the sockpuppet farm- there's a partial list of involved pages at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard/Archive 85#ADDgrammar, and I helped cleanup their edits. Basically all these users were confirmed sockpuppets, I believe of a PR firm. Their edits seemed to focus on a few different areas:
  1. CEOs- most of the articles they created about company CEOs got stubified to a few lines/ a paragraph or 2. A few got deleted.
  2. Companies- a few of these, each of them needed removal of a bit of unsourced, promotional content, think most/all got kept.
  3. Sportspeople, particularly 1950s women baseball players- most of these articles got all the unsourced content removed, and ended up being reduced to 1-2 paragraph articles. All were kept as notable under WP:NBASEBALL.
  4. Article about other people- got severely trimmed down, and a couple got deleted as spam or non-notable.
  5. Books- some got completely rewritten, others just got redirected to the authour. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:00, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you both for your responses. This has been very helpful and I believe, although not with absolute certainty, there is cause to believe this was a PR firm hired by several figures in the public eye, Francisco D'Agostino or Derwick Associates included. Thank you for your time and diligence. Righteousskills (talk) 17:12, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

HELP

Hi Yunshui, can you close this thing here!, seems like lot of edit warring and tried to close the RFC myself but as you can see here, I was "branded" and put aside its just bad politics , please close this issue (I do not know if you could be again catagorised and branded for this! ) Shrikanthv (talk) 05:10, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Looks like it's already been dealt with. Yunshui  09:38, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

CSD question

Hello, Yunshui. Just a question about CSD; every once in a while during my new pages patrol, I'll come across an article which is certainly eligible for CSD, but doesn't quite fit snugly into one of the categories. Specifically, I had a difficult time making up my mind in this article and eventually tagged it as A1. Was this an appropriate tagging by the appropriate category? Cheers, Kevin12xd 14:05, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

@Kevin12xd: I would have gone with A10 myself; it clearly duplicated the information in this article. Yunshui  10:00, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Restore request of Sujit Meher page.

Dear Yunshui.

When i was searching for Sujit Meher on google, I wondered why Sujit Meher's article got speedy deleted .I checked the reason about your deletion of Sujit Meher page is insufficient reference links. Sujit Meher was there for 2 years, then it speedy deleted by you which is a page of a famous young designer of India and placed among to 10 designers list of India[1] also his official page verified by facebook itself[2] because of this popularity and fan base. Please i request you to kindly go through this matter and try to restore it. I have given some summery about Sujit Meher with many media references and other valid articles. Sujit Meher (b. 1989) is a young Fashion designer cum entrepreneur based in Bangalore, India and an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology. Sujit in his graduation days launched a label called "Tilottama"[[3][4] that aimed to create designs for social causes with main focus to preserve Sambalpuri Indian Handloom art. In September 2013 he collaborated with a Bangalore based social organized and showcased his first Handloom design collection with the theme name of Folk fashion. Sujit Blends Ikat with his signature handloom fusion style.[5]In 2014 Sujit awarded as Designer-cum-entrepreneur award by GCC, Group in Bangalore and became listed among top 10 influential alumni of NIFT. [6][7][8][1] [9][10][11][12][13][14][15] I hope that you can recheck it and consider to republish it again. If you think there are some words may lead to misunderstanding, can you let me know and I will revise it. Thank you so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Celebtech (talkcontribs) 18:03, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

@Celebtech: There are some older versions of the page which might be usable if restored, so I'm not entirely opposed to the idea. However, I'm more than a little concerned about new editors who show up out of the blue with a clear knowledge of Wikipedia's policies and start requesting the undeletion of articles that have been subjected to promotional editing by multiple single purpose accounts. Before I do anything, I would like to know what your relationship is to User:Fashiondiva2015, User:Quickjazz, User:Ziyaria, User:Designmania, User:Skmking1988 and User:Fashionburnstar. Yunshui  09:48, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
@Yunshui: Dear, I don't know any of those users. Just when i searched about [Sujit Meher], i got to know about the deletion of the page who is a popular young designer and listed among top 10 notable designers cum alumni of National Institute of Fashion technology recently [16], that concerned me more how can wiki delete a notable person so i have given more reliable sources about him. So i request you to kindly go through the matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Celebtech (talkcontribs) 11:36, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Hm. I still have my suspicions, to be honest, but I guess you get the benefit of the doubt. I'll restore the page and revert it back to an decent earlier version. Yunshui  10:51, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Adoption School re-boot!

Hi Yunshui!

I took a long hiatus from my Wiki project. I just wanted to let you know that I just completed another section of the adoption school after almost 8 months. Ping.

Best, Megan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meganalli (talkcontribs) 15:06, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

@Meganalli: Long time no see; welcome back! I'll take a look at the adoption school this morning and check your answers. Yunshui  07:11, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the block

Thank you for blocking this user. I do not know what this person's problem is, she has bullied me in real life and on Facebook in the past and since I ended all communications with her, she moved onto Wikipedia and somehow found me. If I continue to see activity from this sock farm, I will file a sockpuppet investigation to shut her down as this drama has gone too far. NHRHS2010 RIP M.H. (1994-2014) 10:21, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Not a problem. Can't do much about Facebook or real life, but any time she shows up here, feel free to drop me a line. Even if I'm not around, this page is fairly well-watched by other admins who can slap a block on new accounts. Yunshui  10:25, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
(Although in all fairness, it does rather look as though you instigated contact with her on Wikipedia, rather than the other way around...) Yunshui  10:29, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
I unintentionally did when I started to make sockpuppet tags when discovered that she was not only on Wikipedia but also using a sock farm to troll a page about my alma mater; she actually does this to others' too in high school, not just me. I hope that she does not make the connection to my real life self and my Wikipedia/YouTube life. I already shut her down elsewhere. NHRHS2010 RIP M.H. (1994-2014) 10:38, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Draft:E Square Young Engineers

Hi there and hope you can help. I wrote an article on a well known company is Israel that works all over the world. At first it was declined due to sources - so I added many and edit the article, Than again for sources when i was told the biggest news site in Israel is not reliable which is simply not correct (ynet is the most biggest news site in Israel) and now again its declined for a whole new reason. It feels like there is a cause to not approving my article and I do not understand why... it's an important article on an important company that helps children (they are working with low income and pro bono many times). Can you help me please before I give up completely? Onlinejonathan (talk) 08:43, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

@Onlinejonathan: It needs a bit of work to read like an encyclopedic article rather than a press release. My advice would be:
  • Get rid of all the external links
  • Get rid of any awards where neither the award nor the awarding body has a Wikipedia article
  • Write about the history and structure of the company, not its stated goals and mission
  • Remove any claims of efficacy that are not directly supported by independent sources
  • Don't focus on why the company is different to others in its field, unless you can find several third-party sources that say exactly that.
It's also worth noting that if you work for or are otherwise connected to the company, you are required under Wikipedia's terms of use to disclose this on your userpage, as well being expected to abide by Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Yunshui  09:57, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
@Yunshui: Hi! thanks! if you can check the first drafet before it was edit, you can see a few notes you wrote were there.. is it possible to ask you to edit it for me or ask anyone else to do so? I do not know how and I feel no matter how much I tried it didnt work..Onlinejonathan (talk) 06:58, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Need help making a section Wikipedia-compliant

Hi, I added a small section on a recent major incident in reddit that involve its official stance on free speech. This section got reverted [17] by an editor because he thought reddit is not a reliable source of information. That is despite the fact that the references either came from post of a known reddit account of Steve Huffman or a post that cites several reliable sources. I undid [18] the revert by adding two reliable sources one of which is from Forbes that directly discussed this current situation.

Rather than suffering more indignity of being reverted by yet another elitic Wikipedia participant, I'd like to enlist your help to make this Wikipedia-compliant.

I also like to not that the person who reverted me (User_talk:Smyth) has been warned previously [19] for exhibiting similarly unhelpful behaviour. I understand his behaviour is not your responsibility, but I'd like to point out that the majority of content originate from casual users and attitude such as those exhibited by User_talk:Smyth is a big turn off, especially when the content in question is not in dispute and could've been made appropriate with a little cooperation.

--76.69.143.235 (talk) 03:03, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm not really sufficiently familiar with Reddit to judge whether it's own forum announcements constitute an RS or not, but per WP:PRIMARY we'd prefer secondary sources anyway. Googling "rediit free speech" returns articles from TIME, Wired, The Guardian and other perfectly suitable sources, so why not just use one of those instead and avoid the disagreement altogether? Yunshui  08:09, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Just a small inane request, thanks

Hey there, sorry for the annoying inane request. A year ago you salted Jacksepticeye, i came upon this article now a year later at JackSepticEye which has survived a recent AFD, do you think you can please unsalt the lower case name and move the upper case name to the name with the lowercase? That is how he bills himself, i don't mind either way as i am a casual observer but it would be a good re-direct either way, one less salted article, ha!. Thanks for your time, Cheers. GuzzyG (talk) 16:09, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Articles like this add to my increasing despair for Wikipedia in particular and humanity in general. Anyway, I've moved it, as requested. Yunshui  08:05, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, i agree to a point, haha! I don't think he warrants an article right now but if it's going to be here it may as well be under the right name, Cheers. GuzzyG (talk) 12:21, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

hi

I saw you are interesting at this article Lee Seung Woo but I just want to let you know it is probably going to be deleted according to this so if you don't agree with this vote there and let them know and if you know where you can let people who are interest in such topics to vote please let them know also thank you Adnan (talk) 05:10, 18 July 2015 (UTC).

I'm not sure why you'd think I'd have any particular interest here; beyond a vague awareness that there exists a popular ball game involving one's lower extremities, football and its practitioners barely register on my radar. Yunshui  07:23, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Block for similar user name

Hmm. I was waiting to see what other edits came before blocking, because while at present there is no justification for more than a soft block, it seems a good bet that the person involved is a blocked editor, and would soon have started unambiguous vandalism and/or trolling, and if so, then a soft block would just allow him or her to come back with another, less blatant, account, or without an account, and perhaps get away with vandalism for a while. However, you decided to go ahead and block, and that may have been the better choice: it's impossible to know. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:25, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Soft block? Hang on a second... Yunshui  12:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Thought so; I'm not used to this new Twinkle blocking module. I'd actually delivered a hardblock, removing account creation and autoblocking the IP, but had left the softblock template in the block reason - now fixed. Yunshui  12:37, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Aah, I just accepted what the block log said, and didn't check further. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:00, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

No dispute made

Guy said "Anyone is free to edit any of the above if I made an error (wrong diff, wrong time, etc.) just silently fix it". His diff covered 15 successive edits, and I clarified that without changing the diff or even touching Guy's description. Your objection is what, precisely?—Kww(talk) 13:37, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Fair point; I had not considered that. However, your interjection doesn't correct any errors - it's very clear to anyone checking the diff that 15 edits were made. From an outsider's perspective, all your interjection does is appear to emphasise the care you apparently took in making individual edits rather than a single sweeping change; it looks a lot like an attempt to make Guy's statement more favourable to you. I appreciate that this may not have been your intent, but it's pretty inadvisable to edit other users' statements reflecting on your conduct when said conduct is the subject under disussion - especially if you do so in a manner that makes it appear in the other user's voice. I would strongly advise against doing something like that again; if you feel such clarification is needed, ask. Yunshui  13:46, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
I will admit that I'm frustrated by people arguing that these wholesale reverts are excusable when, indeed, I do remove the material one small section at a time in order to make it easier for editors that choose to source them to do so one section at a time. I pinged Guy above, and will let him clarify if he chooses.—Kww(talk) 13:51, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
That's grand, thanks. Yunshui  13:53, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Kww, did it ever occur to you to drop me a note on my talk page saying something like "I made the following edit (diff). It might be viewed as more of an expansion than a correction, so I wanted to see if you are OK with the edit. If not I will move it to the comments section" when you made the edit? I would have shrugged, thought "sure, why not? It does no harm." and said OK. Now that I have looked at it more carefully in the light of the edit/revert and especially in the light of the intended audience (sitting arbcom members), I agree with Yunshui. Feel free to point out that it was done in stages in the comment section if you think arbcom won't catch that from the range of times and from examining the diff.

I would also point out that as far as I can tell not a single person at ANI or arbcom has indicated that they have the slightest objection to your initial removal of unsourced material on either page. I certainly don't. It was a good deletion and a proper use of the "R" in BRD. This is true whether it was done all at once or in stages. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
