Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Yaw tuba! Your additions to Ebenezer Kojo Kum have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:30, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Kentos Music Band
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Kentos Music Band requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Mccapra (talk) 10:56, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Mccapra. Hope you are fine?? Please I humbly request that article on Kentos Music Band should be retrieved since I have more credible references to support whatever I write about the band. Moreover i was about to add references and more information until I got to realized that article has been deleted. Again this band has a lot of achievements in Ghana and globally. It also composed a song for Ghana which has officially been endorsed as the anthem for Ghana in the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This is my humble plea. Thanks Yaw tuba (talk) 14:18, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- hi I’m afraid I’m not an administrator so I can’t access deleted material. If you ask user:Rosguill or user:Barkeep49 they can help you. Mccapra (talk) 20:06, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Proper way to insert images in infoboxes
[edit]Hello @Yaw tuba. I am @Archer1234. I noticed your recent edit to Rebecca Naa Dedei Aryeetey where you added an image to the infobox. I want to let you know that the way you added the image was not done according to Wikipedia's Manual of Style (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE).
- When adding an image to an infobox, thumbnails should NOT be used. Simply supplying the file name will work. For example, to use File:Image PlaceHolder.png, you can simply use
|image=Image PlaceHolder.png
. Captions should be specified with the|caption=
parameter. Every infobox is different and the documentation for the infobox in question should be consulted for the proper parameters to match the image and caption.
- To fix
Do not use the full image syntax:
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
Instead, just supply the name of the image. So, in this case you can simply do:
|image=SomeImage.jpg
and optionally:
|caption=Some image caption
.
Hopefully you will find this information useful for your future editing. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask. — Archer1234 (t·c) 16:54, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- oh sure sure.... I forgot to clear the thumbnail... Thanks a lot Yaw tuba (talk) 17:05, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- It is more than just clearing the thumbnail. It is also not using the full image syntax
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
syntax. Just clearing the "thumb
" portion is not enough. Just use|image=SomeImage.jpg
. Thanks. — Archer1234 (t·c) 17:15, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Vague edit summaries
[edit]Hello @Yaw tuba. I am @Archer1234. I have noticed in your edits that you primarily use the text "improved article
" as the edit summary.
The purpose of the edit summary is to:
help other editors by (a) providing a reason for the edit, (b) saving the time to open up the edit to find out what it's all about, and (c) providing information about the edit on diff pages and lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists).
In Help:Edit summary, it also says to
Avoid vagueness. While edit summaries can be terse, they should still be specific. Providing an edit summary similar to "I made some changes" is functionally equivalent to not providing a summary at all.
Your edit summaries are similarly too vague and is equivalent to not providing a summary at all.
In the future, please use specific meaningful edit summaries that accurately describe the specific changes you have made. WP:EDITSUMCITE provides help on how to write an edit summary. If you have any questions, you can ask me or ask over at The Teahouse where experienced editors can answer your questions and provide counsel and guidance. Thank you. — Archer1234 (t·c) 17:10, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://idev.afdb.org/sites/default/files/documents/files/IDEV%20Annual%20Report%202021-EN_0.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
Remember to capitalize!
[edit]Hi Yaw tuba! I've noticed that you forgot to capitalize the first letters of a few short descriptions you added. As GhostInTheMachine had mentioned last month, this is required by policy. I would suggest you try using Wikipedia:Shortdesc helper to add or edit short descriptions, as it not only makes editing much easier, but it also automatically capitalizes the first letter when adding a new short description.
Do note, however, that shortdesc helper doesn't auto-capitalize when you change short descriptions, so you should still get into the habit of capitalizing. But don't stress if you slip up once in a while, it happens to all of us! We've got a tracking category Category:Pages with lower-case short description to keep an eye out for these mistakes and catch them in time (that's how I noticed your edits). Have a good day! Over referencing
[edit]You don't need to add 7 references which talks about the same thing. reference to Theresa Kufuor. You just need one reliable reference. For example her death. You dont need to add 7 references to the date of her death. If not then another person would also come and add 5 more. It makes it irrelevant and somehow redundant. Ampimd (talk) 18:51, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Kindly take note that it is mostly written as Early life and education and not Early life and education. Kindly check other articles as reference. Reason for such wording is because, their birth and other things surrounding their childhood is considered as part of the early life. So it mostly starts with
Adwoa Mansa was born on 1 January 1900 in Kumasi to Kwame Adu and Yaa Boateng. She was the third born and grew up with 8 other siblings. She started her basic school......... Ampimd (talk) 19:04, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Akoto Ampaw. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! - Hello, Yaw tuba,
- If you disagree with an article being moved to Draft space, please address the page movers concerns and move it back to main space. Do not cut and paste the draft page's content back into a main space page. Right now, we have two articles on the same subject with different page histories which needs to be avoided. Please do not do this again. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:05, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Some of your new articles, e.g. Justine Aimée Ngounou Tchokonthieu and Miriam Weledji, contain lots of errors which other contributors have to clean up. It would be very helpful if you could create them in draft space and submit for review so that the problems can be fixed before they appear in mainspace. Thanks. Deb (talk) 18:36, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

AME Zion Girls Senior High School moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, AME Zion Girls Senior High School, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
