James Arthur Frost

[edit]

Would it be possible to change the name of the page for "James Arthur Frost" to "James A. Frost?" After considerable research, I found that he often wasn't referred to by his full name on documentation. JoeK2033 (talk) 03:47, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No more fun!

Hello, my friend. And I was just starting to enjoy that, lol. Thank you and TK for the reverts. If my computer was just a tad quicker ... I might have been able to help out in real time. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:03, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, what made them so mad at you anwyay. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 06:08, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Must have a thing for Catherine. Usually they continue attacking on the page in question, not a talk page. My computer doesn't refresh that quickly, so if I started to revert, I would have put his mess back on my page, lol. At least I planned out my sarcasm and he was blocked two minutes after I sent the message. Hee. Thanks again for seeing it and responding. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:25, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Funny thing, I only reverted what he did because he used profanity the edit before. Then he called me an ass, I guess because I reverted Catherine to Katherine. That's all I did. I enjoy that stuff anyway, I'll stay here for hours going back and forth .. but I'd like to see them get blocked before the sun comes up. ; ) Bringingthewood (talk) 06:30, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draftification

[edit]

Hello, WikiOriginal-9,

Please use a sxript like User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft when you decide to draftify an article. It will inform the page creator about the page move and also tag the main space page for CSD R2 speedy deletion. It takes care of all of the necessary steps and will even start a log for you listing articles you have draftified. I encourage you to try it out. Thank you. Liz Read! Question

[edit]

Can't say I remember the FLC, but it looks like I did support it back in the day. Looking at it from with 2024 standards in mind, I'm not convinced that a bare text list of players would find as much favor at FLC. One thing that came up during the conversation on that page is that the apparent project standard is to have consensus All-Americans in a table, which I thought looked like a nice foundation in the example given. Cite the columns appropriately and clean up the formatting, and I think it could pass muster. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to have been done yet with this list, so it's hard to say it meets FL standards in its present condition. Also, I don't think the bolding for emphasis would go over well. There are worse lists at FL standard, but I wouldn't support this again in its current form. Please note that if you want to start a wider discussion over the page's status, WP:FLRC is available. Giants2008 (Talk) 02:44, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Funny, but not funny.

[edit]

Question: When does someone realize that they may have a drinking problem? Answer: When they try to find the editor to thank for the edit that they did themselves two days ago. @@. Figured I'd share that, beats talking to myself. See you later. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:39, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lol. I think I've done that before too where I wondered who edited something and saw I did it. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:42, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not to bother you, but I did read that I typed for someone to chime in with adding a reference. If you ever want to add one, please do. I no longer have the option to preview my edits, so it may take a dozen or so times for me to get it right. Just throwing that out at you. You're doing a lot of NFL pages. Now I understand what you do, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:48, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, thanks. Why can't you preview your edits? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:51, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I went through this messy explanation with Josh and Bagumba, lol. On my 1-year anniversary I lost several options. WP must have changed some things that were once compatible to a relic computer/browser etc. As an IP user I can preview an edit, but when logged in I can't. Btw, I've never edited anything as an IP user since I joined on 4/6/22. Now when I hit preview, it shows the same page, no impending edit. Also, it no longer shows the symbol drop-down box. Even the real-time watchlist updates .. no more, I have to constantly refresh the page. I'm okay with all of it, I'm very thick-headed. I can now hammer a nail in with my skull. Now that's talent! Bringingthewood (talk) 23:05, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I'm not sure. Did something in your preferences change or maybe something on Wikipedia in general changed? Maybe some at the WP:Help Desk knows? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:17, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it was a WP change. I'm using Windows Vista and outdated Firefox. So I know when things change, they change. I originally asked this change/problem question on Village pump. Let's just say by the time I was done with the wonderful people worrying about me signing my posts, instead of addressing my problem ... it would have been easier using my 12 gauge 'village' pump to end the agony. I now have to edit a message and type the four tildes, another thing I lost. Used to just hit the reply button. Ahh, forget it, this mess will still be here for another time. You get back to your evening. We'll talk again. Thanks for the talk. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:40, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the village pump is really for general questions like that. It's for policy or guideline change proposals. Help desk still might be worth a shot. Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:49, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really going to let you go, lol. The V.P. was just to ask did anyone see or hear of a change regarding editors losing some normal functions. I get, you know you should sign your messages. I swear, it's hard for me to bring this up now ... seeing red was an understatement. But I did see somewhere that something was changed or was expiring regarding Wikipedia formats. Being that my computer is old and brittle, I just wanted to know if that was the case. At least after they tried to give me a nervous breakdown, I did find the 'tilde' key. Only took me 16 years to realize I had one, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:58, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there didn't even used to be a "reply" button until a few years ago. I used to have to use the four tildes for every message. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:02, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I came soooo close to being spoiled! If I lose anything major I'll probably buy all new electronics. I'm not one for change, so I dread the day. Well, I guess I used up my conversation quota for the new year already. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:10, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
lol, I know what you mean. Maybe you could take turns using both the new one and old one? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:14, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha! At least you have a subtle way of saying .. "Stupid, go buy a new computer", lol. I might as well get back to editing, while I still can. Thanks for your input. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:23, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you should buy a new computer. I like old stuff better too. But if the old one is causing too many problems, unfortunately, we might not have a choice if we can't figure out how to fix it. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:27, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Candlestick

[edit]

For clarification on the Draft:Battle of Candlestick Park name: it's usually called the "Battle of Candlestick" or the "Battle of San Francisco" (edit to add: this one I've seen once only) or the "Roseboro-Marichal incident" or "The Fight". There is no one name for it BUT in old newspaper from at the time and in SABR articles, it is often referred to as the "Battle of Candlestick".

Most notably, the author of "The Fight of their Lives" (about the brawl and the two players at the center) calls it the "battle of Candlestick" a few times. So I guess I should remove the "Park" from the end? Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:48, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On the pages it is mentioned on Wikipedia, the section on it is often called the "Roseboro-Marichal incident", I should note. Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:51, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Further note: it is also called "Battle of Candlestick" by SABR - see Roseboro's BioProject (there's no official article on the fight itself - not yet, at least).
So what do you think? Without the "Park" in the title or something else? Omnis Scientia (talk) 14:59, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Battle of Candlestick" only has 6 results on Google. Maybe just "Marichal–Roseboro brawl". Examples in Category:Brawls in team sports. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:00, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that sounds fine for the time being. I'll move the name. Omnis Scientia (talk) 17:04, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Archil Gelovani review

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Archil_Gelovani_(filmmaker)

Hello! I recently made edits again to a draft article about Archil Gelovani (Georgian film producer). Please take a look.

Also, I would like to clarify the situation regarding "sagnificance". Georgia (Sakartvelo) is a small country with only a few million people who speak their ancient language. This is really important to consider when the term "significance" is applied. Significance can be increased through popularization, but since Georgia is just going through some globalization processes, perhaps some people do not even know where it is, not only who lives there and makes movies. For the citizens of this country themselves, popularizing their culture is a matter of national pride. It's important.

I look forward to publishing this article.

Best regards KirillInternational (talk) 01:15, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@KirillInternational: I'm not going to double review it but feel free to resubmit it so someone else can take a look. Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:20, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page List of serial killers by number of victims, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 20:50, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Writer's Barnstar
I love the work you did on the list of serial killers by number of victims article. not to mention the sheer amount of articles you've created. I'm so excited to get to read through my favorite article again with the edits you made Kleptotoid (talk) 03:55, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kleptotoid: Wow! Thank you for the compliment Kleptotoid! I'm glad you like it. I have had a hiatus from that list for awhile but I noticed a lot of stuff missing so I went back and re-added stuff. Not sure how no one noticed that user removing over 300K bytes of content in 2019. I expanded it a lot in 2014 as well if you look at the history of my edits there and also the edits of "Vanished user 437dsfj27sk83a9". That was my old account. :) I have also received barnstars for List of serial killers by country and List of serial killers before 1900 years ago, so now your barnstar completes the trifecta. :) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:45, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"This is my own work"

I know what This is my own work means, but does it also mean that I can't take some photos from other websites/the web and use them? (I'm looking for tips because I'm creating 2 new drafts) TheWikiGuy2552 (talk) 18:47, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, we can't take other people's images unless they have explicitly released them into the public domain, which is unlikely in most cases. See Wikipedia:Image use policy for more info. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:57, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These people

[edit]

There was a statement, I guess, being made on the Thibodeaux talk page earlier. If you put together something diplomatic over there to go on, I'll back you on it. Just want to cover the bases with this relentless fan. This is funny, it's like the Myles Garrett guy that had to come here and put the sack rankings in for each year. Lead the season 'just one time' and then we can speak, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:50, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't plan on arguing with him but Thibodeaux was only a third alternate, not sure that's notable when like most of the league are alternates of some sort. I've seen seventh alternates reported before. Look at this source. "Jameis Winston is going to Hawaii, yet he was the league's eighth alternate after the six quarterbacks voted in." "The Cincinnati Bengals' Adam Jones, named Tuesday, was the seventh alternate at cornerback."
He didn't add a source anyway. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:25, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well said. Just don't want a source added. lol. I think it's too trivial. Not sure about the higher-ups and their view of a player page etc. I know references are a big thing here. (And just a note: I won't attempt to add a reference being that I can't view my mess first). I try to add what's fact and someone else can add the reference. ........... I need a drink, I forgot what we were talking about. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:31, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, the alternates. I'm with you, you revert, I revert!!! Just changed Colin K. to a former player again. I do love petty torment. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:33, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 18:33:54, 14 January 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Me3456789

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to ask for some further information about why you've declined this submission. I am fairly new to Wiki submissions, but I feel the quantity & quantity of coverage referred to in the article's references more than warrant a Wikipedia entry for the individual.

He is a Royal Warrant holder (& that's an interest of mine, so I was going to start working through other Royal Warrant holders across Wikipedia), which means that he personally makes silver & gold items for various members of the British Royal Family. (And this is granted to him personally, not to the business.) He's also been covered in a BBC Documentary and is covered in articles in The Guardian, Bonhams, Faberge and others.

So as I say, once I've done this submission I want to start working through various other Royal Warrant holders creating / updating their articles. This is such an honour (to have been recognised by and supply goods to the Royal Family) that I thought they all 'qualify' for a Wiki entry...so I'm just trying to understand more.

Many thanks for your help & I look forward to hearing back.

Me3456789 (talk) 18:33, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Me3456789: Hmm. Wikipedia subjects need in-depth coverage (full-length articles, not just passing mentions) in usually at least 3 reliable sources that are not written by or affiliated with the subject. I'm not going to double review it, but you can resubmit it if you'd like. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up for Thibodeaux

Hello. Looks like our IP user with the Pro Bowl Alternate may have just registered. I tried to give advice and understanding on what he's been doing on the K.T. talk page. This is the username I just saw: Kayvonthibodeaux4mvp. It's got to be him. He's definitely determined, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: It's him. But I tried to neaten things up on the page by adding seasons. If you see something I'm screwing up, please amend. :) Catch you later. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Roger that, thanks for your vigilance. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:27, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Sorry, I only linked the Bills because they were mentioned a couple of seasons up on the page, not duplicated in the 2023 section. I saw that the Ravens and 49ers were linked in 2023 and also in 2019 and 2020. If that's the case we have our work cut out for us. The other day I saw a team linked in every season, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:41, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks, I didn't see you did it. I just noticed people editing it, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:51, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave it off, you did remove it for a reason. Teams are linked everywhere, not that I agree with that. Too many links are ridiculous. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:00, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Alex Smith page (and your welcome to Wikipedia)

[edit]

Hi. Unregisters users don't have any easy click-to-thank ability, but thanks again. And I'm fine with the change you made to the season headings at the Smith page (though technically the transaction wasn't part of the 2018 season, even if it happened in 2018, as the year hadn't ended yet with the Super Bowl. But I'm not going to try to become an authority on the minute mincing details of it all.

When I got your thanks I went to your user page and saw (among other things) you've made over 190,000 edits...yet still are not regarded as an "auto-confirmed user". Wow. With the Smith page being restricted to them (and discovering you too are waiting for the above pending edit to be vetted). Though some "fine print" at your User Groups listing indicates you are an "implicit" auto-confirmed user. Which evidently is still not enough to make a simple edit at the Smith page.

I guess a user has to request to become auto-confirmed, and sponsored. I'm amazed with all the bots and whatnots in Wikipedia there is no mechanism to identify putative deserving candidates (by some reasonable set of criteria) and auto-nominate them. Well, offer them an opt-out first, then do it if they're in. None of my business, ultimately, but not just one "wow" but 190,000 of them. All the best. 2601:196:180:DC0:14B3:9DC0:9BD9:C9E5 (talk) 20:46, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks IP 2601. There aren't very many pages where "pending changes" applies and I don't believe it is necessary for Smith's page. Looks like it was added ten years ago. I went ahead and requested it to be removed. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:52, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WO. Looking for some help regarding this message I received. I'm reaching out to you and two others. Thank you. The following is from my talk page: (So, I’m trying to add information about one of my relatives who played for the Browns and the Lions but it gets taken down because there is no source and i cant find a source, is there like a form or something that higher ups can confirm first hand information from family members? regards, kayvon4mvp Kayvonthibodeaux4mvp (talk) 03:26, 18 January 2024 (UTC)) Bringingthewood (talk 03:34, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They have to have a source. We can't take their word for it. Did they say what it was? Maybe we can help them locate a source? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:06, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing but that message. I agree with getting a source, that's why I asked him to stop for now. I often wondered .. if it is the truth, how DO we prove it to Wikipedia? If you told me that you were a current player, should I not believe you? There has to be someone out there who amended their own page, lol. I'll look and see what he's doing. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:34, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it's this page. John Mohring (linebacker, born 1956). It doesn't hold water if there's no reference. I see his point though, if it is true ... do we ask the higher ups to take a lie detector test? @@ Bringingthewood (talk) 04:42, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like they're just trying to add the player's siblings. That's not crucial of info anyway. Also, did you see their userpage? They copied some of your userboxes. lol :) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 05:05, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not crucial, but I have seen things like that reverted due to not having a reference. You know what I mean. Well, if he is a relative I guess he'll have to keep fighting. LOL, they weren't there the other day. That'll teach me to add players to my watchlist. Thanks for helping out, always appreciated. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to double review it, but you can resubmit it if you'd like. Or you could ask at the help desk. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:06, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Humor

[edit]

Yes lol. I will kind of reveal my age here but I made my account around my high school years. When I went on a long hiatus, I grew up some but still had a knack for making some redirects that fit but were kind of funny in my opinion at least. Since then, I have lost a little of the funny side because I have an idea of what is acceptable around here. Thanks for the notice. Made me smile lol. Red Director (talk) 19:08, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Red Director: LOL. Also, I always thought you were older for some reason. :) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 19:17, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Earl Keeley

[edit]

LOL! You're going to take them all back once you see Earl Keeley. I'm used to removing caps, but for some reason I can't get the stats in the infobox the way you had them (NEAT). There would be less of a mess, if I could see what I'm submitting first. You may have to go back to 2014 and work some magic over there. Sorry about that. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:15, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I just copied that formatting from other CFL infoboxes. Feel free to adjust to non-caps. :) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:20, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather not. It looked fine before (your way) because the stats were in line. For the life of me, I know I put it back to the way it was, but it's not neat any longer. Truly I hate doing so many edits for fixes. Down deep I feel like someone is saying .. he wants NUMBERS, lol. My hang up, but I was like that at Answers.com also. I'll see what I can do. Removing caps seems okay for NFL .. maybe not CFL for me. Well, I took up my mandatory two inches of talk space, I'll let you go. Thanks for the reply. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:28, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, you know I can't stay away. I guessed and I was correct, I saw that adding Canada pushed the lines down. Bad news, I must have done dozens of these additions (several of your page creations) and never noticed it. What's more important, the country or the stat box looking good? Your call, it's your page. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:42, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I haven't noticed either, so it's probably okay. :) Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:54, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AUB

[edit]

Hello, WikiOriginal-9! I recently shared a draft replacement article for Atlantic Union Bank on behalf of the bank and as part of my work at Beutler Ink. The current entry is problematic for the reasons I've outlined here. I do not edit the main space directly because of my COI, and I am looking for editors to review and implement the proposed draft appropriately.

I've disclosed my COI on the article's Talk page and my profile page. Since you reviewed another company draft of mine not too long ago, I was wondering if you might be willing to take a look at the draft. Thanks for your consideration! Inkian Jason (talk) 16:04, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

[edit]

I just added a comma after a team on the Darius Jackson page and then saw that you added the Raiders. Never good with all types of punctuation. Is it a, b, c, and d? Or a, b, c and d? Didn't want to edit pretending I knew the whole score. :/ Bringingthewood (talk) 02:58, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really sure honestly. Maybe it's in the WP:MOS somewhere... ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 03:01, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! I think it was being taught in grammar school, but I slept a lot. There is a correct way to do it and I've seen many with a comma before 'and'. Well, always feel free to revert the 'ugly' that I create. Thanks for the response. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:10, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week nominations

[edit]

FYI. You submitted Y10's nomination on October 26th. Two days later if was added to the end of 9 editor queue at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Accepted nominations. Since it was the holiday season it took 3 months to work its way to the front. Nothing unusual there. I added "The vast realm of athletic articles would be drastically diminished without his hard work." and the banner or, as you call it, the box. Again nothing unusual. I have worked with Yankees10 on MLB articles over the years. Almost every nomination for Editor of the Week has a second or third that adds comments which I integrate into the original nomination to add flavor. Buster Seven Talk (UTC) 20:32, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Buster7: Thanks Buster. Sorry, if it sounded like I was complaining or anything. That wasn't my intentions at all. I just wanted him to know the parts I wrote, just for the record. Your extra flavor definitely made it better! ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:49, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you were using this script. Would you consider switching to Evad's updated version? You've been adding articles to maintenance categories because the script hasn't been updated for WP:PIQA. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:35, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Qwerfjkl, I actually have both installed but I kind of like Kephir's better. Would it be simple for someone to update it? I'll use Evad's in the meantime though. I like the presentation of Kephir's better and Evad's is a tad slower. On Evad's you have to hover over "More" to get to Rater instead of Rater just being there. Also, Evad's has a loading screen. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:43, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I seriously doubt anyone would be willing to maintain a years-out-of-date script. There's not much that can be done about that. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts

[edit]

Hello. I don't think we have ever spoken before, but I read your question on Liz's talk page. You are not the only one who is concerned about this. I have been aware of it for some time. My assessment is that many of the redirected articles satisfy GNG or NGEO or both; and that in many of these cases, such as articles on towns and villages, and on broad topics on a national level or of widespread interest, or on other topics that normally attract a lot of coverage, and which do in fact satisfy satisfy GNG or NGEO, it should be obvious that they are notable. If Tooncool64 redirects those articles again without consensus, he will be edit warring. I myself will try to add references if and when I have time. Best regards. James500 (talk) 21:44, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@James500: Hi James500, thanks for your thoughts. Do you think the issue should be brought up at the drive's talk page? I don 't think the purpose of the drive is to serve as a mass AfD. I didn't revert all the redirects. I stopped after awhile. There's only so much time in the day... ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:40, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what that would achieve. If edit warring takes place, the appropriate venue would be WP:ANEW. James500 (talk) 00:07, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what the issue is. I was criticized before for PROD/AFD articles without considering the alternatives, such as merge/redirection, which is a completely fair critique. At the time, as I am now in many ways, ignorant of WP policy on the matter. In all of the cases of my recent redirections, which are a minority, as i have been citing a lot more articles proper, it is not without thought. At least two of the redirections that were reverted were redirects to the same page, just the redirect target had sources. I am not redirecting without thought, and once again it is preferred by policy, per WP:ATD-R, for redirection over deletion where I am unable to find sources. Redirects can be undone at any time. In any case, the only re-reversion I did was for Kretha Yukam, where the target page, Ayyavazhi mythology , literally had the same content word-for-word. I think a redirection in this case is extremely fair. If you want to call that edit warring, by all means, bring me to ANI. Redgards, Tooncool64 (talk) 23:31, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not bothered by the redirection of Kretha Yukam on grounds of duplication of content. I am concerned by the redirection of notable topics where there was no duplication of content. The edit warring noticeboard is WP:ANEW, not ANI. James500 (talk) 00:07, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be able to point to the redirects that concerned you? I want to learn where I may have overstepped. Tooncool64 (talk) 00:15, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your latest WP:BLAR, Muirabad/Myorabad is an example of a geographical article that obviously satisfies NGEO and GNG. Even the most cursory search of Google Books, Google News and the Internet Archive in English would have confirmed that Myorabad is a local government ward, a village and that it is in the 2001 census. Even the most cursory search of Google Books in English would have confirmed that Muirabad was a village and that it satisfies GNG. And some attempt should have been made to search for म्योराबाद, which comes up immediately in Google, even on a search for Muirabad/Myorabad. James500 (talk) 01:56, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to retrieve an article about John Koetsier, who is a BLPs. The article had citations from Adweek, Forbes, and MarTech, Inc. I'd like to know why the article was deleted. Can't believe this

[edit]

How do we keep meeting like this? Did you mind that I removed 'NCAA' from the FCS national champion line in the infobox? I see dozens with just FCS or BCS national champion. After I did a handful, I checked the history and there you were, lol. Didn't think you did them in 2017. It's up to you, I was just shortening up the line, nothing personal. The link is still the same, just not the NCAA specification that's visible. Bringingthewood (talk) 06:04, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure NCAA is necessary there either. That looks like alphabet soup. I looked at Carson Wentz from 2017 and it has NCAA so I was probably just copying that. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:11, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I'm trying to see who does what, and when I like them I stop and ask, lol. Being that NCAA was done seven years ago, I feel good about the edits today. I really appreciate the response. Well, let me see what I can go and mess up. Hee. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:22, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you very much, WO-9! I wanted to thank you over here, being that you're the only stalker I like, lol. Watt may have lost out on the DPOY, but he won me a barnstar ... go figure. Of course you know that no good deed goes unpunished, so a question is coming. Why would for example, the 2017 NFL draft page have it changed to lower case on top, but the lead starts off in bold - 2017 NFL Draft? Shouldn't that be changed also? This change I don't like. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:08, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I know, people have been debating "D" vs "d" on here for years. It used to be "d" for a few years. I'm used to both. In regards to your question, that is just because no one has gotten to it yet. If you want to change it, go ahead. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:16, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also lol: "being that you're the only stalker I like" ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:17, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seemed that way from the talk page. A long time. Yeah, I was also thinking they might come by later on and get that done. If they leave it too long another can of worms will open. When you read that page it's not definitive the way it stands. Oh well.
HA! I swear, as soon as I sent that note over I knew another set of eyes were lurking. @@ Good thing you replied .. no more wondering. Thanks again and enjoy the Super Bowl, if you're watching it. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:29, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian and American football categories

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to let you know why I reverted the addition of the Canadian and American football categories just now. If an article is already in the subcategory for a province or state, it should not be added to the main category per WP:SUBCAT. In fact, I've been working to sort the articles in the main category into the appropriate subcategories. Thanks--15:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC) User:Namiba 15:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Namiba:, I was going to make Category:American players of Canadian football and Category:Canadian players of American football non-diffusing. I thought there was some utility to having them in the main cats too. They didn't use to be broken up by state but I don't really care that much. I actually started out earlier by emptying American players of Canadian football but I changed my mind and decided to tag it as non-diffusing. There are still 1,500 articles in that cat, if you're interested in helping me empty it. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:31, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm happy to help empty it. I just removed over 40 articles.--User:Namiba 15:46, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Stupid question. This is why I thought the D was going to stay capitalized. Look at the work ahead of people. I don't mind adding U.S., removing a duplicate link etc. But the page is created with NFL Draft. Doesn't that consensus ruin all future page creators? This work should be given to the condemned, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:00, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can leave some thoughts at the move review if you want: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Close_review_of_Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Capitalization_of_NFL_draft_article_titles Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:38, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably won't help, I already showed my disapproval earlier. I was just wondering if they had to fix those templates for editors such as yourself. You do a lot to create a page .. for someone to go by later on and lower case a letter? They should make it easy and correct for the page creator. If you don't mind .. I don't mind, lol. Funny, when the consensus was ongoing for adding U.S., I wondered the same thing. I always thought there was BIG WIKIPEDIA BUTTON for page creating to press and cure all our ills. Not one at a time. HA! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:06, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

First off, great job with the American players of Canadian football categorization. It's great to see. Secondly, I am working on sorting the articles in Category:Ice hockey people from Quebec. I've gotten it down to about 250 or so articles. If you have a few moments, I'd love help finishing it off. If not, no worries. Thanks!--User:Namiba 22:29, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll be happy to help finish it. Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:42, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just about to say

[edit]

I was just about to explain why I didn't add Canada to some pages, it's not due to laziness, it's the stat section. About a month ago we spoke about when the country goes over the line the stats move around at the bottom, one line to two. Now I added U.S. and you can see the difference the overlap made. Please check out the revision here Reggie White Jr. and let me know what you think. Seems trivial, but the page creator is still very active, no need to make a mess. A creator, like yourself, might have a voodoo doll at home with my face on it. Thanks. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just saw this one I did earlier Tyrice Beverette. Not as neat when it goes over the line. But why are we adding the country in the first place then? AHHH! Bringingthewood (talk) 04:28, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you mean. The CFL infobox isn't the best, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:42, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You read my mind. I could leave it at one line so the stats have one line at the bottom. Some players won't have a country. Someone else, besides the creator, might not have even noticed the change. Because if you read the stat, you know a number really isn't missing. You think maybe stick with one line? Bringingthewood (talk) 04:47, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you think is best. Your preview button could come in handy right now. lol ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:54, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the country is important, but someone would probably think - Receiving:4 Touchdowns: blank. Oh yeah, tell me about it. I'll go with one line for now, keep it neat. Hope the creator appreciates this, lol. See, that's why you got a beer, I can drive someone to drink! Thanks for taking a look and your input. Country questions

[edit]

Hello, WO-9. Do you mind that I remove the country where applicable? I ask only because if you create a page with it .. who am I to remove it? Also, is it a rule to do this or just a football thing. I noticed some celebrities, politicians and even MLB have many countries listed. I leave MLB alone not to annoy Yankees10, lol. Besides, the MLB pages are some of the better 'uniformed' pages and infoboxes that I've seen. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:50, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Be my guest. I don't really know what the WP:MOS says about that, if it does say anything? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:56, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, didn't think there was yet another consensus out there. I go with it with all types of football, at least we pretend we have clarity, lol. I do remove American Samoa also, even though it's an unincorporated territory like Puerto Rico, if the city has it's own page .. hell, why not? Boredom creates enemies, that's why I asked. :) Thanks for responding. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:08, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Too neat!

[edit]

It's too clean over here. I'll take care of that. Just a question regarding the 'restore version' when reverting. One thing led to another and I saw an editor receive this message from another editor: (use the restore version option instead of reverting every single unsourced edit). I myself would revert one after another, I thought that someone needed rollback rights in order to do this. Am I correct with that or can anyone restore? Bringingthewood (talk) 03:42, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can go to a previous version of a page in an article's history and save that one. Also, you could apply for rollback if you want. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 03:50, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the slop, lol. I saw the first thing you mentioned, I could only try that with maybe something I did earlier. Also I read up on rollback. Not big on asking for that .. due to future headaches I could cause by accident. I feel bad when someone reverts vandalism back to my version, but I can't do it for them in return. Looks like I'm doing it on purpose. Guess I'm just surprised that I never received a message like the one up there, lol. Thanks for your help. You can delete this now! :) Bringingthewood (talk) 03:56, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bringingthewood You can use WP:TWINKLE; it has rollback-like features (and lots of other useful tools) without needing rollback rights. The big issue with the real rollback is that it doesn't allow an edit summary, but that should be reserved for things like obvious vandalism, not just any edit you disagree with. However, I'm not sure if your setup is going to be compatible for Twinkle—probably requires some version of javascript or another. It's just a preference click, so should be easy for you to trial. —Bagumba (talk) 04:57, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Bagumba. Well, you did shed some light on things. I thought of you when I read about rollback .. and I pictured you saying, 'Oh God No!' So I decided to scratch that idea. I see the Twinkle thing here and there and you're right, I have nothing updated nor can I update anything on this computer. But I can use that as an excuse when someone says stop doing things one at a time. Sorry WO-9, looks like the slop goes on. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:04, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Biography Page Edits

[edit]

Hi WikiOriginal-9! I see you undid a few of my recent edits on pages you have also contributed to, specifically John James (antiquary), John James Park & John Lyon (antiquary).

I added a copy paste template to those pages as it appears the article text was either wholly or substantially copied directly from the source. Some of the language used could be modernised, acronyms could be fully written out for ease of reading, or the article more broadly could be rewritten to make it more consistent with the tone and style of other articles.

I am not an experienced Wikipedia contributor, so any further explanation or feedback you have regarding this would be most welcome! Scotty2083 (talk) 15:05, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello WikiOriginal-9,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

[edit]

Any blown insulation(fibres, fluff, beads, granules E.T.C.) Into cavity walls must NOT be done, as it immediately bridges the cavity. Injecting foam into the cavity walls must NOT be done, as it stops the walls breathing, causing drastic condensation saturation of the inner walls inside the building. HOUSES THAT ARE ALREADY BUILT UP CAN NOT HAVE CAVITY WALL INSULATION ADDED, You would have to take the outer walls down to install the cavity wall insulation batts. Cavity walls that are already built up can NOT have cavity wall insulation added. Cavity walls must NOT be bridged with insulation(insulation touching the outer walls inside the cavity) or else moisture will transmit by capillary action, from the damp outer walls through the touching bridging insulation into the inner walls, making it damp inside the building. Remember bricks, blocks, mortar, concrete are porous, they absorb water completely. Even if there were no microcracks in the mortar joints or breaches in the outer wall, the outer wall still gets completely soaked anyway, all the way through to the inside of the cavity. Cavity wall insulation must NOT touch the outer walls inside the cavity. There are ongoing legal claims cases against damp caused by insulation bridged cavity walls. MANY BUILDERS TODAY ARE ILLEGALLY BRIDGING CAVITY WALLS WITH INSULATION.

Cavity wall insulation batts can only be installed from the start of construction of the cavity walls.

IF CAVITY WALL INSULATION BATTS ARE TO BE INSTALLED, there must be a LARGE air space gap in-between the outer walls and the face of the cavity wall insulation batts inside the cavity, this includes a substantial air space gap in-between the face of the cavity wall insulation batts and the cavity wall-tie drip-point(which must point downwards in the centre of the entire cavity). Cavity wall-ties are laid with a slight downward slope, across the LEVEL mortar joints from the inner to the outer walls. The air space gap is always substantially greater than half the width of the entire cavity.

Ask N.V.Q. City & Guilds BRICKWORK teachers in person for PROOF of all this and further exacting parameters,

they are the authority on brickwork/construction. S.V.Q. City & Guilds BRICKWORK in Scotland. 78.150.97.129 (talk) 07:42, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just throwing this out there. You create many pages and you know people who do the same, hopefully they go with "Early life". This way we won't have to do this for the next decade. I do agree with you, it seems to be the standard, but I was surprised that I was the one who edited Tom Brady. Know what I'm saying? Pages as recent as Nick Bosa had "Early years". I'll continue, but I could see someone asking 'what's up' down the road. I also saw that many old time players had their pages created the old way. There must have been a consensus years ago you would think. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:26, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well I think I am the one who actually changed Brady to Early years, lol. That's what I used to do for years but the standard across Wikipedia is Early life now so, oh well. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:32, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I thought would happen. Toriano Pride. The creator has a unique way of E.L. and H.S. on one line. Normally I would remove H.S., but maybe I'll just stick with Early years only as being edited for now. You're a page creator and once I spoke with Beanie and basically, it's what a creator wants to do ... that's that. I can't open a can of worms with everyone, lol. Any ideas, comments or ways to do something ... just aim them at me. Thanks in advance. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:31, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly, but I'm in no position to argue the point with him or add my two cents. Like I said, when I was removing date of birth from early life, due to it being in the lead already ... it's what people do. YOU are the only person who said I could do what I want and you wouldn't have a heart attack after I did it. Bottom line, if you want it changed ... I think you hold more weight. I'm not sure. It looks like you could be right according to what that guideline says. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:31, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looked like a no-brainer, but maybe with wrestlers you might have heard something else. Like 'The Rock' I leave alone, it looks like a two-word name being used. I don't have these on my watchlist, but the Hitman, the Anvil, the Million Dollar Man, they seem to still be there. If it's okay with you, I'll go lower case. @Bringingthewood: There's no source now anyway, so you can go ahead and revise per PFR if you want. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:15, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't do that, a senior and a junior have to have the same names. Wikipedia has Lenard for both, that's fine with me. PFR has different middle names, just was wondering which was correct. No big deal. I usually would have torn an editor a new ass with stupid tinkering. Glad I didn't tinker, lol. I still like PFR. :) Bringingthewood (talk) 23:20, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see what you mean now. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:30, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now you can try to enjoy the rest of your weekend, lol. Thanks, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:32, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Has to be said. On Craig Dunaway I stopped after the 'early life' edit. Normally I would have went with Early life, College career, Professional career, and Later life. You originally directed me to these type of edits .. I also read some things in the forum the last few days. I saw the revision history for Dunaway and even though it was nine years ago, I don't like poking the bear, lol. It'll work for all parties, don't you think? John. I changed it, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to Lutispora saccharofermentans. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has too many problems. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Notice

The article Zaeske has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This list effectively only links to a single person. The first link is a redlink in which no draft exists. There is no other article on Wikipedia of an individual with the surname Zaeske other than the second link that directs to an actual article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. I had to THANK YOU here, due to me erasing my babble over there. You're too much, at least a bot should be able to preview an edit, lol. I'm glad you took it that way with noticing things. Down deep I always felt that editors thought I was trying to correct things when I follow them around. Not the case at all. Just looking for different things to do. I really do appreciate it!! You're welcome. Thanks for all your help. You got me to start putting U.S. everywhere. ;) lol ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:58, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, my help? I need all that I can get. Please keep letting me know when I stray from the flock. That's cool .. and if you can get away with adding U.S. outside of football and baseball .. you are then a PIONEER!! I don't keep everything on my watchlist, so I'll thank you now for all that you did that I never saw. Thank you x 300!! Bringingthewood (talk) 01:05, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You requested that my one millionth edit be on your talk page. So, here we are. I intend to shift my focus back to mainly improving articles on athletes and other sporting areas. Other milestones beyond this seem far away, but we will see where it goes. I intend to scale back my editing to a more relaxing pace now that the corner has been turned. Best wishes! I was worried about catching a block for any old thing I had done on here over the years right before crossing the mark and that upped my desire to want to get the milestone done. I was like "dang, this is really about to happen" and decided to go for it. Red Director (talk) 02:34, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like your the 14th person to hit a million. Nice. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:40, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that means a lot and not so much at the same time if we are philosophical lol. Some of those editors before me have suffered the ban-hammer. Whether or not it was deserved is not my call but they did undoubtedly major contributions to get that far. I hope the editor at the top gets to eight digits in his lifetime to show it can be done by a human. One day the amount of editors that reach it hopefully is what 100,000 used to be. Some in the next generation give me hope. Anyway, I ope to keep the train going on my side with edits that actually interest me. I love the NFL and college football probably too much but a lot of us have those kinds of hobbies. Red Director (talk) 02:48, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Doms in Jordan

[edit]

Hello WikiOriginal-9, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Doms in Jordan, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Doms in Jordan.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Vanderwaalforces}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

PFR -- dates?

[edit]

Hi there. Would you happen to know who this player is? Joe Matesic. I clicked on the PFR link to find his exact place of death. I saw that and also saw that he was born in Rankin, PA. Got out and then saw a different uniform number, I amended that. Now I see that his date of birth and death is off. I'm 99% sure that the player at PFR is him .. unless the people at PFR drink like I do, something went wrong somewhere. Should I revert what I did or just run away? :o Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:44, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HA, I just saw that the lead is Nov. 11, 1929, the infobox is November 10, 1929, and PFR is November 10, 1927. Wow! Bringingthewood (talk) 03:47, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why PFR has 1989. Pro Football Archives has 2020... I might email PFR and ask. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 03:53, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll leave the d/o/d alone, which I was going to do anyway. The reference had the wake info, which is hard to screw up. You may want to ask them if they like vodka or scotch. Thanks for the quick reply. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 04:01, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Old ESPN recaps

[edit]

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but you may already be aware. Some old ESPN game recaps have been completely wiped off of the site. Some links to old game recaps now lead to a blanked article. This is why PFR is leaps and bounds better at least in the current state. Internet Archive hopefully can pull these if needed. I just see a lot of work on the horizon unless a bot takes care of it. Red Director (talk) 22:43, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly note

[edit]

You can avoid typos like the one that occurred here by simply using {{subst:Refer|type=given-name}}, when starting given name SIAs or {{subst:Refer|type=surname}} when starting surname SIAs, which automatically detects the page name with a magic word. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:1823:FC07:8CDE:1454 (talk) 18:25, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox numbers

[edit]

Hello. Not sure if I'm missing something, but are the infobox numbers supposed to be listed like PFR does it? I'm amending some players, because I thought 'numerically' was incorrect. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Not sure if this editor would acknowledge a note anyway. Thanks. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:50, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I put them in order of when they wore it. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:55, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I thought you did. To run the risk of explaining this and then needing a consensus ... not worth it. At least he's adding the numbers. Nice catch. Not sure how that happened. Fixed it. Also, you just copy-paste that part of the URL if you're ever interested in adding those links. A lot of infoboxes still need them. Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:57, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Roman names

[edit]

Hi, I see that you have created pages for several ancient Roman names. I would like to advise you to get to know Roman naming conventions (like the difference between praenomina, nomen gentilicium, cognomina, agnomina, victory titles, signum etc) so that you do not create pages that are potentially misleading or confusing. For example making a page named "Quintillus (surname)" could imply to a reader that Quintillus is a surname in the same way modern people use surnames, so I moved it to "Quintillus (cognomen)" instead. ★Trekker (talk) 21:01, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't call it a surname. Someone else moved it to that. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:24, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering if you can give some general feedback regarding my recent edits on this draft article. Furthermore, I am wondering if you feel the subject of the article now fits the General Notability Guidelines at this point? Since 2023, there has been more independent, in-depth (and quite critical) coverage. One example is the 2023 SFGate article where the article subject is the subject of critical coverage. Wickster12345 (talk) 23:16, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can resubmit it for review if you'd like.

The above sub-stub unconditionally and utterly fails WP:SPORTBASIC, prong 5 ("Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources.")

Because of this non-compliance, I redirected the article in November 2022 to List of players who appeared in only one game in the NFL (1920–1929). Beanie reverted without explanation as to Nagle's notability. Accordingly, in December 2022, I tagged the article for failure to comply with SPORTBASIC. The article then went unimproved for another 18 months.

Earlier today, I again redirected in light of the utter failure to meet our most basic standard for sports biographies. Beanie again reverted but then agreed with me that the redirect was OK. You have now reverted the redirect. Can you explain? Per SPORTBASIC, it's pretty clear that this doesn't belong in main space -- at least not unless and until someone finds and adds SIGCOV. Blackadder, William defaultsort

[edit]

Thanks for creating so many biography articles! Just a quick note: some of the recent ones all had their DEFAULTSORT set to Blackadder, William (i.e. James Noble (Royal Navy officer), Robert Tabor, John Shipton (surgeon), Walter Hope Long Howard, Benjamin Thompson (dramatist), Ralph Blegborough, James Carpenter (Royal Navy officer), Aaron Smith (mariner), James Mackenzie (physician, died 1761)). I've fixed these ones, but not sure whether you've resolved this for new articles (e.g. perhaps there are some articles with a different incorrect DEFAULTSORT), and thought I would let you know in case not. --YodinT 11:21, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the original question you offered me. I think as long as you can provide 5–10 good sources that prove noteworthiness (news outlets, media outlets etc), a topic deserves an article. I would make a lot more articles if the line on what does and does not deserve creation was not so blurry. There are some absolutely awful pages in content and citations on this site that have not and never will be targeted for deletion while some articles that have a lot of love, care, and energy are wiped out due to opinions. This site can be great but some users bring it down immensly. Red Director (talk) 01:48, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Red. Yeah, I don't recall seeing you make articles that much. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:50, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Red Director: case in point: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of suspensions in the NFL that has 660 references. I ask you not to comment there though. Someone might say I canvassed you. I don't think you would have noticed the AfD anyway. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 16:20, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dang! If that well-sourced and informative article goes to the wayside, that may give me an internal crisis. I mean maybe the logic behind it is that only "notable" suspensions are warranted, but I would not adhere to that personally. A complete wipe of the page being presented is insane to me. I do like that user on here and think they are a great contributor so not hard feelings there for me. Red Director (talk) 16:29, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pfr in the infobox

[edit]

Hi there. Should we still add pfr to the infobox, even when it's referenced in the article? I remember JW11 saying the way he adds it. I've been noticing that after I add it, it's already in the reference section. Do we need it all over the page? Just asking, no big deal. Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:42, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YES ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:48, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OKAY Bringingthewood (talk) 02:51, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LOL ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:52, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Just a heads-up here. There's a user out there, we get along, but time is too short and no consensus anywhere. Sacks are added pre-1982, college stats are 'college career statistics', and bold is added for games played/started. I can't keep telling people what to do with no consensus and thinking that I'm the King of the Land, know what I mean? I'm going to stick with early years-life and pfr. Unless they use bold on T. J. Watt's page, lol. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 20:51, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know what you mean. Everyone has their own way of doing it, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:56, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HA! You definitely know more than I'll ever know. I got myself in trouble when I wanted to do the right thing at Answers.com. I just didn't want you to think I was slacking ... I don't do that! You just can't tell people what you're thinking nowadays unless you're face to face ... it's easier that way. Thanks for understanding. John. WikiProject NFL

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for the invite. I have thought about that here and there. I do like to edit on my own terms and my own pace as I do have a job that takes up a significant portion of my free time. This is just more of a hobby on slow days and nights. I just do not feel like I have the time to commit to projects on there or any other WikiProject for that matter. I have never sought adminship on here either because I like being a free spirit on here with what I do. If you ever need me to chime in on there with an opinion, feel free to let me know. Red Director (talk) 03:49, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

You're welcome and you surely deserve it. It was well overdue. Have a great weekend! Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:45, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What article are you talking about? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:36, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No way

[edit]

I swore NFL.com was removed and we're now with pfr for height and weight. Calais Campbell's page just came over. We can't argue without a link in the infobox. Am I dreaming this? Dozens are being changed to NFL.com. I admire the salmon! John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:42, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I figured this would happen when NFL.com was removed. I think it should be changed back to what PFR has. Right now, it is completely unsourced. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Either we should go with what PFR has or NFL.com should be added back to the infobox. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:48, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you like the guy, but I'll revert them all. Also, the pfr links are being added with a slash. I thought I saw you remove that in the past ... even though they link the same page. Any thought on the next step here? It won't end. Besides, it will help me decide the size of the next bottle I open, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:52, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can go ahead and revert them if you like. Maybe a discussion should be had at WT:NFL. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:01, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion shit is getting stupid. People do what they want to do. This God damn link isn't even on the page. We need another person coming by and saying he's over 300 ****** pounds now? I'll check each page and see if there's a link. If the only weight is NFL.com, I'll leave it. I don't like going round in circles. I'll leave you alone now before I start to get upset with this. Catch you later on. John Bringingthewood (talk) 23:09, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know what you mean 100%. Getting consistency around here is near impossible sometimes. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:16, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was just in the process of deleting this all from your messages. Edit conflict, lol. He came back on Campbell's page. There may be a dislike with pfr. Seems like everything is being used but that link. I believe an admin. proposed NFL.com being removed, and I agreed, the conversation should have escalated then I guess. I'm done with it, let it stay there. Try to enjoy your Sunday. :) John Bringingthewood (talk) 23:20, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sunday? Lol :) ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HA! I did mean because it was coming soon, lol!! Yeah, I still have grasp of today ... not for long though. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:24, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And enjoy the rest of today if you really want to. ;) Bringingthewood (talk) 23:25, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
lol ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:38, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not familiar with Wikidata. Also not sure why that wasn't an option earlier. My computer is old, but I can view NBA.com on those pages. I always thought the broken NFL.com links were my fault. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:49, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On the left side of the screen, each article has a "Wikidata item" link. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:53, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see Wikidata item. I just checked the Cap Boso page and they have the pfr link as B/ -- shame on them. No wonder we can never win a damn argument! Bringingthewood (talk) 02:08, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it works with the slash too. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:15, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It does, but I did see you remove the B/ before, so I did it also. Hee. You must know by now it's not worth me living if I can't find a future argument with someone out there. P.S. I can let the B/ stay from now on, just say the word, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:27, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Word. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:31, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! Enjoy the rest of your Friday, I mean Tues ... whatever. Until the next time. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 02:36, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bringingthewood I don't patrol NFL pages that much, but I also assumed it was me that those NFL.com profiles showed almost nothing. LOL. You know what they say about ASS-U-ME.—Bagumba (talk) 06:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bagumba LOL! YEP, NEVER ASSUME! God bless the 'The Odd Couple' for trying to show me the light many moons ago! John. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just you. NFL.com sucks nowadays. Historical players still have profiles for some reason but all their stats are gone. NFL.com even used to show people who were are on the active roster but didn't play (which was a plus over PFR). ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 06:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to chime in here because I feel like I can have a good conversation with two great and respected editors in my book. The bracket on PFR links is needed at least in my history on here because I have noticed broken links if left out. [1] vs [2]. 1 has the bracket and works. The same goes if a PFR link is used in a table in my history. I do not know where NFL.com or PFR get their information in regard to player weights and heights, but I assume NFL.com has the more accurate data. I could be wrong as it is an assumption. I would also assume PFR pulls from official NFL sources as well and some information just has not been posted yet as we are still in the preseason. As always, if I need to change anything in regard to my edits, just give me a shout. Red Director (talk) 13:37, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comment Red. There's a topic at WT:NFL with more details if you care to read that as well. Thanks. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:45, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding SS, I agree with you and I do respect his stay firm attitude when upset with someone. But, another BIG BUT, if not diplomatic here or any other place, you get blocked. Not sure if you were stalking me, lol, when I asked him about telling Admin B. to go ---- himself in so many words. I was pissed when I saw that, being that I got along with both. Bottom line, he won't change, and in some strange way, people really shouldn't. (SS's response to me when asking how he escaped a block here: (What's up man! I actually was retired but decided to come back to stay. Answering your question, I did nothing specific, just expressed myself how I wanted, and to be honest I thought I'd get banned for life, but it didn't happen surprisingly and fortunately. So... just do it, just express your thoughts.) John. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:09, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, I know. It's like he was trying to get blocked. He pretty much dug his own "grave". ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:13, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, looks that way. If he returns, it's all on Wikipedia, lol. I won't throw dirt on him ... like I wouldn't throw dirt on you. So, you better %^%!!~$%R^^VHGVYXZ$%^%&^##%$E&^YGVCDTD%^R^Y^%WTR

... not throw dirt on me either. Hee, only kidding, lololol. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:21, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How did that box get there? HA! I'll leave you alone now. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:24, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
loll lol. I think you had an extra space at the beginning of your paragraph or something. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:28, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Normally I would not have returned, but whatever you did to remove the box sent me an alert that you mentioned me on your talk page. You didn't. Double-HA! This place is getting creepy. Enjoy your night! John. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:37, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, that's a new one. I guess converting your box to plain text pinged you since your name was there. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:41, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe it's just the Curse of Windows Vista!! We'll try it out again one day ... when I grasp that extra space thing. :/ Bringingthewood (talk) 00:54, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It definitely was. Sorry. Thank God you saw that. It's that damn curse up there, I know I added a capital "P" to a practice squad somewhere. I even put (caps) in the edit summary. What THAT WAS I do not know. I know I can't preview my edits, but that was ******* ridiculous. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:13, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Besides, (-345) bytes is a lot of cap fixing, lol! Bringingthewood (talk) 22:15, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK sounds good lol. Maybe you looking at an old version of the page and just forgot? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:18, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like something I would do. Past previews helped me with that. The squash is getting softer ... I can't lose many more perks here. Glad it was you that saw this first, otherwise it's usually a good way to get into an argument, lol. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:46, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quick question. Can the common slob amend something on Commons? I ask because I wanted to fix T. J. Watt's middle name over there. I thought I could just edit like over here. My name is in red and it says 'user page doesn't exist'. Just wondering .. no rush to respond. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:41, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it's just grabbing from WikiData. General rule of thumb is that if you see a "save" button, nobody is (immediately) stopping you. —Bagumba (talk) 06:57, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it on WikiData. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:29, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Funny thing is that when I did get to one part of the page I could edit it, but it was correct, Trent Jordan Watt. I was trying to edit this page under the photo. John is his father. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:T.J._Watt Bringingthewood (talk) 23:36, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just edited his commons page and saved it without changing anything, so now the page has been "refreshed" and it has the correct middle name. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:41, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, you're amazing. Speaking of amazing skills .. I left Jeff Faulkner's nationality for you. I didn't know what to put exactly. John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:04, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like he might be both according to United States Virgin Islander citizenship and nationality. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:13, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I'm also glad I left it for you, I wouldn't have done that, lol. Also, you don't use a dash. I can stop with Jamaican-born etc. if you want. Bringingthewood (talk) 00:29, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I usually put a dash for dual nationality but I wasn't sure how to do Virgin Islanders? I saw "American Virgin Islander" on some other articles so I just copied that. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:41, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. Besides, these rose-colored glasses seem to work just fine. Thanks for everything! John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:45, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wording

[edit]

Probably just forgetting, but where was it decided that this was the way NFL player leads were to be worded? BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League/Archive_24#Proposal. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:53, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BeanieFan11: While I agree the old lead was perfectly fine, here is my thought process for the new lead:
1. If you look at Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, or Wayne Gretzky, they all say "American former professional xxxxx player".
2. We don't want to have redundant leads like "is an American professional American football" or "is a Canadian professional Canadian football quarterback in the Canadian Football League".
3. Nationality actually matters in the CFL, and before there were tons of American players that said "is a Canadian football". Now, it's easier to tell if they're American or Canadian (or "Global").
4. Most of the people going to NFL player articles already know what type of football it is. "Football" is wiki-linked for the few who might be confused. (And if they're not American or Canadian, I've been putting "Nigerian professional American football") Templates like "Use American English" exist for a reason. We may as well use it.
5. Dirtlawyer1 used to do it the "new way" and he had good judgement about stuff.
6. That discussion was months ago and no one has said anything about Bagumba changing a bunch of leads on former players. No one said anything at Tom Brady.
7. It also lets us add "professional", which I think looks good in the leads of players. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 16:22, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering

[edit]

Hi there. Just wanted to know if you were sending out some invitations or if it was in error. Lirim Hajrullahu the Kosovo guy got one with nine edits. I thought it was kind of strange. Sorry if I missed something here. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:22, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I invited him. It's not everyday a real player shows up lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:27, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm taking that as you're kidding, lol. No joke if they join. Do you have blocking powers down the road? Just saying, lol. That guy with the long name, (WiTSH), surprised me the other day, and I think he was surprised also that he received an invite. Well, football is coming. :) Bringingthewood (talk) 01:36, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"WiTSH" edits NFL articles so I invited him. There aren't any requirements for joining WikiProjects. Anyone can join anything. Thanks, ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:44, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know and I hear you, that's what scares me, lol. I was thinking .. maybe someone can pretend to play quarterback for the Steelers. I guess I'm back to rooting for sacks! Have a good end to your weekend. (I do know it's Saturday.) @@ Bringingthewood (talk) 02:26, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the thanks. I thought I strayed too far there. Not to be misunderstood, YOU didn't scare me .. it's the people that join on their own (at times). Should be invite only. I was honored to be asked, I never would have thought of it. The Steelers project doesn't count .. nobody seems to really want that, lol. Trust me, the day I invite someone .. they will remove U.S. from all the infoboxes. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:12, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I knew that's what you meant, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 03:16, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank God. :) Bringingthewood (talk) 03:23, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strength and conditioning coaches

[edit]

I've run into a few like Cedric Scott that have the some of the most redundant lead sentences. How many people actually know of them as coaches as opposed to former players? Is it wishful thinking to customize these cases on this cookie-cutter, crowd-sourced platform? —Bagumba (talk) 10:12, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bagumba: I know, I've seen some bad ones. It annoys me when people instantly change someone's whole lead to being a coach just because they're an assistant somewhere. Andrew Luck's infobox used to say his "current_team" was some high school and his position in the infobox was literally "part-time coach", not even a quarterback anymore. Drive-by editors always do that with high schools. Until a few days ago, Pro Football HOFer Jason Taylor was using infobox college coach, and his lead started with "is an American football coach" just because he's an assistant in college. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:05, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, the blanket college infobox practice beecause Joe Blow from the 1900s was a football, basketball and baseball coach as well as an AD, all in one, so the modern day college coach needs to use that same ibx, becuase the readers will otherwise be confused. —Bagumba (talk) 12:15, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bagumba: In regards to Cedric Scott, he only played 13 games in the NFL and has been a coach for the Jaguars for 12 years, so I'd probably leave that one how it is for now, starting with "American professional football coach and former player". We can change it to "former player and coach" when he retires later maybe. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:09, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. I was mostly ranting. I'm doing my own cookie-cutter "professional"/"former American" edits, so improving lower-tier coach leads takes a back seat. —Bagumba (talk) 12:19, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know, if you do a lot of the high level articles first, people will start changing the low levels to that eventually. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:24, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's taken 5 years or so, and arguments like "it's more typing", "but everyone knows the NFL is professional", "the Euros will be confused", "Spanish-speakers don't call that fútbol", etc. —Bagumba (talk) 12:41, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean Bagumba, don't you just love leads like "is a Canadian professional Canadian football quarterback for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League". ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:52, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right up there with "is an America football coach who is the head football coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines football team." —Bagumba (talk) 13:22, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
lol lol. How should we write that one? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:26, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking "American college football coach who is the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines"? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:27, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No "currently"? LOL. —Bagumba (talk) 04:54, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot "it's just a guideline that says should", and I'm sure we'll revivisit "It's just a recommendation" soon. —Bagumba (talk) 06:00, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder what the WP:MOS people think about it, lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 06:08, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's already thousands of "English professional footballer"s. —Bagumba (talk) 06:26, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bagumba: Did you know that this guy's main claim to fame was not being a football coach, but being a "former American football coach". I think I saw a NYT article about how he was the greatest former coach ever. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:06, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"was a former" for apparent emphasis[3]Bagumba (talk) 01:46, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow lol. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:48, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-American

[edit]

Something like "is a German former professional American football defensive end" is just too many adjectives for one noun. I changed to "is a German former professional player of American football who was a defensive end" (hat tip to Dirtlawyer).[4]Bagumba (talk) 09:10, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sergio Skol SPI

[edit]

I indeffed that sockpuppet before seeing that you originally opened up an SPI report last week with the exact same suspicions. Good work identifying that sock! Sorry that the SPI sat there for too long and you withdrew the case, sometimes it takes longer for admins/CheckUsers to act if they aren't immediately familiar with the sockpuppeteer and their edits. If you have any strong suspicions about other accounts being socks, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page for (hopefully) quicker results. Thanks! Eagles 24/7 (C) 17:36, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Eagles247: Yeah, it looked like he was going to get unblocked at his talk page so I didn't really wanna stand in the way. He didn't necessarily get blocked for bad edits, mainly civility. Thanks for the note. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:56, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

Thank you 28x!!! Haven't had a full watchlist in weeks, lol. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:47, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks BTW, but I'm not sure what you mean by full watchlist? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:51, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I forgot to mention that, just another perk. I can only view the last 50 on my watchlist. That option also went bye-bye on 4/6/23. That's fine with me, I knocked my list watchlist pages down last week .... but you get a pat on the back for finding what I have left, lol. Good to see a familiar name! Bringingthewood (talk) 21:58, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, I see, lol. You can click preferences at the top right and then watchlist on the next screen, if you want. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:03, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did just about everything, changed it to 30 days and saved it ... still no good. But thanks for telling about the preference tab, I only had one box left unchecked. Now I can see changes in bold since I was last here. That gives me a new look at least. Little things excite me. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:11, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Thanks for the thanks. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:15, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, and thank you. Maybe one day when I get a new computer I won't have to copy and paste every x and pipe each time. That symbol drop box was awesome. Enjoy your NFL weekend if you're watching. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:18, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know my computer acts up .. but never in a good way. I'd send you 50 in a row, but it would look fake, lol. I'll make up for it one day, maybe by 2028! Thank you. Enjoy the rest of your week! John. Bringingthewood (talk) 18:17, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know how you and other editors can keep up with watchlists during NFL Sundays lol. There are some good eggs out there trying to be helpful but the vandalism can be rampant. I try to stay away from current players' articles during those periods to make life a little easier. Red Director (talk) 13:21, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Who says I'm keeping up with it? lol ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:39, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha I understand. I try to sometimes and it is best to let the storm calm down over a few days. Red Director (talk) 18:34, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have over 18K pages on my watchlist. I just skip over a lot of stuff unless it looks suspicious, especially on days like yesterday. Also, not all those 18K pages are articles of course. That is for all namespaces. Thanks Red. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:37, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I believe I reverted that on mobile, believing it to have been an edit to List of NFL nicknames instead. Non-free rationale for File:Drew Baur.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Drew Baur.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:34, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The {{Information}} template you added to this file's page isn't really the same thing as a non-free use rationale and really shouldn't be being used as such. If you want to use a template for the rationale, there are several examples found in Category:Non-free use rationale templates; in most cases for photos of deceased individuals, though, {{Non-free use rationale biog}} works best. Since you've uploaded several other files using "Information" templates for non-free use rationales, you should go back a re-check them before they get tagged for speedy deletion by one of the WP:BOTs that looks for such files. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:42, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball pics

[edit]

I've noticed you've added a lot of player pics to their individual baseball bio articles. THANKS! It looks great. Bob305 (talk) 12:06, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bob. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:40, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Mike Sharperson.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 14:10, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note - I have reverted your removal of the speedy deletion tag for a couple of reasons:
  1. As the uploader, you are not allowed to remove the speedy deletion tag. Per WP:CSD The creator of a page may remove a speedy deletion tag only if the criterion in question is G6, G7, G8, G13, G14, C1 or U1. If you are contesting it, make your statement on the file's talk page.
  2. Your reasoning in the removal of the speedy deletion tag alludes to standard usage for biographies of deceased people. Such use is usually acceptable but the guidance at WP:NFCI point 10 states Note that if the image is from a press or photo agency (e.g., AP or Getty Images) and is not itself the subject of critical commentary it is assumed automatically to fail "respect for commercial opportunity". The image you uploaded is a Getty image although the source you used did not bother to credit Getty.

I suggest you look for another image that is not from a commercial photo agency. -- Whpq (talk) 00:34, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images of wrestling figures

[edit]

My watchlist informed me that you're adding non-free images to professional wrestling biographies. It appears you're existing in a vacuum doing so. A discussion recently concluded on Commons which showed that hundreds if not thousands of wrestling magazines are in the public domain and freely accessible on Internet Archive. These magazines contain photos of people for which you're claiming no free equivalent exists. Even if you pay no attention to what occurs on Commons, I have left comments at WT:PW at several points describing the process and its outcome. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 12:15, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of those were deleted too. (c:Commons:Deletion requests/Professional wrestling magazines) It's hard to tell what's public domain or not when it comes to those magazines. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:32, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it's pretty simple. If it isn't to you, that's what WT:PW or Commons:Village pump is for, to collaborate with more knowledgeable editors. Digging further, I found editing activity of yours on Commons in furtherance of this goal. Between that and your statement above, you're quite aware of what you're doing. Uploading non-free images simply because someone else hasn't uploaded a free equivalent to Commons and claiming that a free equivalent doesn't exist isn't the least bit compatible with the notion that we take copyright very seriously around here. You're begging to be dragged into FFD over this. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 13:01, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a list of all the ones that are public domain? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 14:11, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just getting started on that. It's a little more ambitious than filling holes in infoboxes. CeltBrowne has also started doing work in this area, so maybe they have something to say. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 02:08, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://studiowrestling.blogspot.com/2018/02/local-promos-in-wral-studio.html starts by saying "This great studio shot from the WRAL TV studios in Raleigh, NC was featured in one of the Weston magazines in 1979." In other words, a free image of Rich Landrum exists. I haven't tracked down the specific issue yet in order to provide attribution. I've downloaded a few other issues containing free images of others, though. I'll see what kind of time I have to process those images. On 1 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Thomas Bertrand-Hudon, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Thomas Bertrand-Hudon is the first professional football player to wear a Guardian Cap during a regular season game? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Thomas Bertrand-Hudon. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Thomas Bertrand-Hudon), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Pfr numbers

[edit]

Hi there. The only reason I went with 55 and 92 first, regarding Riley Morris, was because pfr had the Oakland Raiders with those numbers from 1960-1962. Not sure why teams after that would have numbers listed before them. I was always going with chronological order with the numbers. My bad screwing it up. I understand it is a good article and I sometimes jump the gun. P.S. I did notice that the Chargers were the only team listed before the Raiders in the infobox, but we spoke earlier about that ridiculous addition of offseason and practice squad numbers being added. Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:43, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the confusion. The number order for this one is from PFA, which I just added to the infobox. Thanks. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:50, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, you never have to apologize. Second, is PFA .. like the Hebrew National of stats, you know, a higher authority? I just don't want to screw up a good page thinking I did something the right way. Honest question. Also, I did see the reference before I sent this, not sure what PFA meant, as in being a go to over pfr. And should I stop doing those things. :/ John. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:58, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There wasn't any reference when you changed it so no big deal. Keep doing what you're doing. PFR and PFA are usually the same but this guy's PFA page specifically said 73 for 1960, so it's probably just missing from his PFR page. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:07, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you .. not him, lol. PFA had practice squad numbers in the past. That probably added to the infoboxes with nine numbers. The Raiders were the first legit team and it looked like a slam dunk to me. Oh well. Thanks for the reply. Always appreciated. Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:15, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? I'm 99% positive PFA has never had practice squad numbers. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:18, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I saw users that added numbers, did my homework and saw that PFA had them listed with a number prior to the season. I've removed some over the last year. But honestly, when a person is on the bench with a number, I guess he's wearing a number, lol. But I like the pfr way. I'm guessing some sites believe if you're on a team, and a number was issued, it should e listed ... others you have to play a professional game. Another Wiki area I asked about over a year ago .. what is the correct way? I've always said, too many ins and outs here, lol. I'm not losing sleep over it. :) John. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:28, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On a lighter note, being that you're the bright bulb in the lamp ... do you think when Watt retires, could a good article come about? I'd help to do it. I suck with adding references, but I'd help in some kind of way. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:31, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably not that far off now. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:37, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, you made my night! Hopefully I didn't ruin yours. That "100" better come on Sunday .. just saying. Enjoy the rest of your week and always remember to stop me sooner than later. ;) Thanks for the conversation, it's never forgotten. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:45, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts on how to handle Lists of Green Bay Packers players and Green Bay Packers all-time roster on your newly created template? Not sure if it should be one or the other, or both? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:26, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's for all-time rosters. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:33, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
List of Kansas City Chiefs players, List of Chicago Bears players and List of Los Angeles Rams players are not of the "all-time roster variety". List of Seattle Seahawks players is a broken redirect to a section at Seattle Seahawks. I actually contemplated moving all of these all-time roster lists to more appropriately titled "TEAM all-time roster" and then moving the one that provide navigation to notable lists to "Lists of TEAM players", similar to how I did for the Green Bay Packers. Thoughts? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:02, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That will work. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 23:06, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll put it on my longterm to-do list. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:06, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Out of curiosity, how did you go about generating a list of players by team? Did you use PFR? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 20:48, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the process from my sandbox (@Red Director: helped come up with part of this process):
I created an NFL player "master list" txt file by combining everything in my List of NFL players by name and then pasted it into the first column of an Excel worksheet. I then "split" the column (Data --> Text to Columns --> Delimited) into two separate columns at the < symbol (from <ref). I then used find and replace: 1. Find "ref>{{Cite web|url=https" and replace with "https" 2. Find ".htm" and replace with ".htm*" (to delete text before a certain character use (*char), to delete text after a certain character use (char*))
So now I just have Column A of already disambiguated article names and Column B of bare urls. I then saved my master Excel spreadsheet so I will not have to do the steps before this every time. Everything that follows below, I will have to do every time but it doesn't take that long.
Steps to generate an NFL all-time roster:
1. Open Excel master file.
2. Use LinkClipper at a PFR all-time roster page (Cardinals example) to extract the player URLs into a txt file.
3. Open LinkClipped txt file and remove all non-relevant text.
4. Paste URLS under Column B in Excel.
5. Conditional Formatting --> Highlight Cells Rules --> Duplicate Values (this highlights duplicate URLs)
6. Custom sort --> expand selection --> sort by color --> no color on bottom.
7. Paste the list of highlighted players on-wiki (Example: User:WikiOriginal-9/List of Arizona Cardinals players)
8. Make sure number of players matches what PFR has.
9. Use "find and replace" and ReFill to fill out referencing on-wiki.
10. Done.
I'm planning to update the lists from here on out at the end of each postseason. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 21:11, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I really just wish that PFR had a single page for each team. Seems like such an easy thing to program and would make citing so much easier. Nice work! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yes, I'm not sure why they don't do that. I've emailed them about it before.
You can still look up all-time rosters though (the PFR guy told me about this, and it's where the Cardinals example linked above came from). If you go to "Frivolities" and "Players who played for multiple teams" and put the same team twice, it produces an all-time roster. Here is the Cardinals one. Just go down to the "All Players" section to see the all-time roster "2104 players played for each of these franchises." There is also an option to export that table to wikicode, Excel, and some other stuff. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:14, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha thanks for that end-around! That's pretty funny. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:20, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Detroit Lions brief history

[edit]

Do you think it would be acceptable if I added a brief summary of the history of the Detroit Lions to the main article itself? It would not be a straight copy and paste but a minor rewrite and summarize of the History article. They are the only team of the 32 active teams that do not have that on their main article strangely. Red Director (talk) 14:04, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

John Moore birthplace

[edit]

You sourced it to Basketball Reference, which is overall reliable, but they often conflate birthplace with hometown. For a contemporary player, I'd try to find a prose source that says "born in" explicitly. But I don't expect to find that in this case. C'est la vie. —Bagumba (talk) 05:25, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I did source Don Bragg (basketball)'s birthplace to bbr LOL. I think the other reason I was hesitant about Moore was becuase it just said "in Gary, Indiana" without anything before e.g. born or died.[5]Bagumba (talk) 04:35, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing that's because Moore doesn't have a birthdate listed so born doesn't display. I just saw that the FAQ section at the bottom said he was born there. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:32, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But BBR's wrong on John Green: Minnesota, not California.[6] They obviously just assumed because he graduated from a CA HS, but he didn't even move out of MN until his junior year.—Bagumba (talk) 20:08, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to change Moore. My edit summary said "If you were leaving it off intentionally, feel free to revert". ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:14, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, was just musing, I wasn't railing specifically on Moore. —Bagumba (talk) 20:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bagumba: If you ever need a break from updating football bio leads, there are a lot of women's college basketball season articles that need updated.
Did you know ... that the 2013–14 Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team will represent Eastern Washington University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I women's basketball season.
Note how the lead of that says men's but it's for the women's team. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:37, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Danton Barto

[edit]

On 20 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Danton Barto, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the University of Memphis football team posthumously retired Danton Barto's number following an online petition? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Danton Barto. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Danton Barto), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

 — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:03, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like they applied a one-link quota to your hook. LOL.—Bagumba (talk) 16:38, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Where do they change the hooks before they go live? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:05, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It gets shoved in a prep area and later queue, where people can edit it further. If you're picky, you track as it moves before it lands on the Main Page. There's always a debate on what's cosmetic vs. what's a material change and when a courtesy ping should be given. On the one hand, the bolded link is the main deal, and the rest can be a distraction and is probably linked in the article anyways. But sometimes there's seemingly no rhyme or reason. And there's something to be said for respecting nominator intent, all things being equal. —Bagumba (talk) 17:49, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find the specific edit it got changed at. I don't mind though. It's just confusing to backtrack and try to find it, there's like 7 prep and queue areas. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:29, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The prep area is usually in the edit summary of the nom when it get promoted.[8] The change was here It then goes into its respective queue before it goes on the MP. —Bagumba (talk) 11:32, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see now. Thanks. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 11:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the, the, the

Rollback

[edit]

Can you explain why you used rollback on Special:Diff/1252172173? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:20, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He's 5'10" at cagematch. The source in the infobox doesn't have height. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:21, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That website's gurus shoved a sideways "Stats" tab on the right, which does have 6'2". But I think the point might have been more that WP:ROLLBACKUSE doesn't cover incorrect info. We know there are height vandals, but I usually just AGF and write "unsourced" in the edit summary for anything remotely reasonable e.g. not 10'6", 2'4", etc. —Bagumba (talk) 04:34, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You just changed sourced content again without proving an inline citation. Don't do this again. If you can't figure out how to use the cited website, maybe you should just stop editing this article? Click the big red banner saying "superstar stats", and it says Height: 6'2". This is getting disruptive, so I'm going to give you some discretionary alerts. Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:22, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That will work. Could you move Buffalo Bills al-time roster? Looks like a typo snuck through on that one. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 19:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Professional wrestling alert, too

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in professional wrestling. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

GAN

[edit]

I have a few more GANs if you're interested: Canada All-Stars (football), Cliff Brumbaugh, Larry Kennedy (baseball), Garnett Wikoff, Herbert Gidney (track), Fred Narganes (wrestling), Paul Chadick (basketball) and Herbert Polzhuber (fencing). Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 03:01, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if I should. I've reviewed a lot of yours already. If you actually win or something, there might be drama... ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:07, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. A little disappointed I probably won't be able to win a second title, but thanks for all the ones you've already reviewed. BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:41, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you can ask some other people? How many more GAs were you planning to do anyway? It looks like you're 900 points behind right now. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:49, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I had been planning on maybe 10 more Packers articles (up to 1468) and had in addition to the eight listed above (1748) probably at least 10 others that could be nominated (2098), in addition to the seven from last year that I could've worked on (2343). BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:00, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominated a few others, if you have the time: Elvio Porcel de Peralta (the other football), J. Nash McCrea (cycling), Madeo Molinari, Bob Hainlen, Lonny Calicchio, Mark Thompson, Rod Taylor, Karl Thielscher, Graham Kernwein (football); also had David Petway from a few days back that was initially for Gonzo, although he said he couldn't review it due to being a significant contributor (it is pretty short though...). Also, although non-sports, I do have one other GA nomination in Joseph L. Cahall (politics). BeanieFan11 (talk) 03:18, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
David Petway is too short I think. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 04:42, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For someone who played 16 years in the modern era and has the most red cards ever, Elvio Porcel de Peralta looks a little short. I doubt there's much else out there about J. Nash McCrea (he's pretty obscure), so I'll go ahead and review that one. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:23, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I nominated a couple others, which will probably be the last: Bethwel Henry, Henri Claireaux, Armwell Long (politics), Fran Foley, Grant Hermanns, George Schollenberger (football). (Last one's a little short though...) BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:28, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking George Schollenberger could be expanded some more. The article says his son wrote a book about him, and SI had him ranked "28th on their 1999 list of the "50 Greatest Sports Figures From Delaware" so I wonder if there isn't some more info out there that could be added. For example, the article doesn't really say how many state titles he won or anything. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:21, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like someone else decided to take Schollenberger; in replacement, do you think you might be able to review John Wiltbank or perhaps Oh Yoon-kyung (chunk of the content for the latter is from Han Bong-zin, which you previously reviewed)? Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:19, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also nominated one other in Kim Bong-hwan, another member of the '66 North Korean Cup team. BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:49, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chancellor

[edit]

Lol at that one revert of Kam Chancellor. What makes a editor want to make the man gain ten pounds in retirement? Red Director (talk) 13:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, they didn't provide a source, naturally. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:07, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I doubt Chancellor is out running combines this long into retirement. Some of those are humorous before the revert. Red Director (talk) 13:10, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Red Director: I noticed you have been reverting vandalism lately? I thought you didn't use a watchlist? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:11, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do use a watchlist more these days. I organized it to mainly show the articles I have been working on for a while. It makes it easier to keep up with. Definetly helps the fight in my opinion. I did not realize how helpful a well-organized one could be. Red Director (talk) 13:14, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's good because I had to start removing stuff from my watchlist. I have 21K pages on it (that's all namespaces, not all articles of course). A year ago I started adding like every player I edited to my watchlist but I've been removing stuff lately because my watchlist was getting to big to keep up with (unless it's an article I created, expanded, or an article I'm specifically interested in). ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:19, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Wayne Gretzky

[edit]

Good day. I noticed that a pair of far-left editors have vandalized edit summaries on the Talk:Wayne Gretzky page. Could you clean these edit summaries? They're disgusting. Thanks in advance! Deplorable Garbage (talk) 15:04, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
