Rajanikant Kannada transliteration

Dear All, Rajnikant was born in Bangalore and acted in Kannada plays/dramas/stageshows before moving to Tamil Cinema. He knew only Kannada and Marathi(Mother tongue) and he learnt tamil after moving to chennai. He is no doubt belongs to Kannadigas as well tamil. Hope this clears question of kannada transliteration in the literature. Rajnikant may be the name given by tamil director but the person roots are from Karnataka hence transliteration in kannada will not impair the reputation of the person.

If you still think that transliteration is not required in other languages than remove tamil transliteration as he not only belongs to tamil cinemas but all south indian films other than tamil also.

Rajinikanth translieration & Films

Hi as i have already mentioned in my previous comment, Rajanikanth is from Bangalore-Karnataka and has his roots are here. His elder brother and other family member live in bangalore. He acted in Kannada plays before moving to Tamil cinema and was called Rajanikanth. Please dont challenge the authencity of the data as he lived half of his life in Bangalore.

His initial career had a lot of Kannada films to his credit. The yearwise Kannada film name added in wiki are removed without giving any reason. Hope you understand that the article should talk about rajanikanth in general and his contribution to cinema and not only tamil cinema. As wiki article is read by people all over the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indian born (talkcontribs) 18:41, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Removing the Loyola College poll is fine. Also, I've warned the user above about edit warring and adding unreferenced stuff to Rajinikanth. EelamStyleZ (talk) 01:07, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Close paraphrasing

Hi. I appreciate your efforts with Keechaka Vadham, but unfortunately US copyright law does not permit us to modify what somebody else has written "with own sentences". This creates what is called a "derivative work", and it is just as illegal as copying directly. I have removed the portions of the plot that remain too closely paraphrased to the source. You are welcome to describe the film entirely in your own words, but you can't copy and change what they've written. Please see Wikipedia:Copy-paste. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:38, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Confusion

Hi, well yeah, that's confusing now. Behindwoods is known for creating such mess and I'm not sure about its authenticity. The other ones are correct? I suspect they had a look at Arjun's page, which states the same. I don't think it's true. Johannes003 (talk) 11:00, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hehe, I'm also hoping to elevate any Tamil actor's page to GA status. Started working on Karthi's page some time ago, in fact it was me and another editor, I think, who have improved the page a lot. Yeah, I would like that to happen, it should be considerably easier with Karthi's page (especially after seeing Ranveer's page, who so far had a single release only!) I see, you have made some major changes. Why did you remove all awards from filmography? We can at least keep the Filmfare Awards I think. It hasn't to be exactly like Ranveer's site. Also I'm not really happy with including his marriage-related claims in early life section. Just some suggestions, let's work towards it. Johannes003 (talk) 14:02, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I know, of course everything would be expanded, just some suggestion. And hey, thanks for that barnstar! The first ever I'm receiving! Actually never expected and never bothered about it, but that's very kind of you! (Also didn't know anybody could give it!) Thank you! :) Johannes003 (talk) 21:43, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Re: Anna Stadium

Of course, even if the stadium does not look good you can still make it look good by appropriately utilizing the features of your camera. The image you had taken is good, though a bit blurred. I would still say that if you were able to add a pic of the stadium it would be better. Anyway, I've added the image to the article. Behindwoods

Hello. Why can't Behindwoods be used to quote budget and gross figures? As far as I know, there haven't been any fake lists created by the site. Also, the Chennai gross of many films is present in the site which is currently used in many articles. Should they also be removed or in other words, is it totally unreliable? Regards. Secret of success (talk) 13:41, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Should it be removed for even low budget and gross figures? `Secret of success (talk) 14:47, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Do you have proof for the statement? What mistakes has it made till now? Secret of success (talk) 14:57, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes but you need evidence to support the statement. Apparently, it has a wp page due to which it enjoys a high status here. Secret of success (talk) 15:03, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

There are many sites quoting the budget as 150 crore like this one. Secret of success (talk) 15:17, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

These are not the only links. You can google to find out many more which state the 150 figure but I suggest that small figures not be messed with for now. Secret of success (talk) 15:54, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Filmfare nominations

Hi, once again regarding these Filmfare Awards. I don't know from when exactly but in 2003 already there have been nominations. I have added the video link of the 2003 ceremony to the article. I could find these two sources (1, 2) listing the Telugu nominees for the 53rd Filmfare ceremony (2005). I guess they started giving nomination lists in early 2000s. The whole focus is on the "main" Hindi Filmfare Awards, so there doesn't exist much material regarding the Southern section (as stated several times before). The nominations that were added in the Best Telugu Actor page seems to be true, at least partly. Johannes003 (talk) 13:44, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Yea the song lists in the discography will be updated regularly. And we are also collecting more useful info's to be added in the Discography section. There's a team working behind this and we are working on making the page of Harris Jayaraj a much better one. Thanks Growtreesgrowtrees (talk) 17:34, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if it was annoying! But u Johannes003 never replied or responded in a proper way. Ur edit summaries where like written just to turn on the one who edited. Now say me y such a big composers page isnt properly sourced? I am a great fan of him and i looked at his page before some years and it was quite better than this. Now when i had a look at it, the page looked too bad. With only one reference link. I am the one who added 4 links later. Its not properly sourced. I got vexed and wanted to contribute something to the page in some way. And thats y i made that discography. If it was really annoying then its my pure ignorance. Okie now say me if there is any way the page can be properly sourced and improved. Can some wiki officials take care of this and be helpful in this. I was thinking of improving it, but now i understand when i try to do something it will turn even worse. Like what has happened now. Growtreesgrowtrees (talk) 19:50, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Filmfare

Yes, that's good. Revathy's page looked very reliable, that's why we used that as a source. Johannes003 (talk) 08:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Nagma'a site, at least that filmography page, looks like taken from Wikipedia itself. I didn't remove it from time being, but I don't think it's true. Johannes003 (talk) 09:15, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't think there are many such official reliable sites left yet. The problem is most "official sites" are not really official, and often based on Wikipedia itself, and you don't know what to believe and what not. We used Madras Talkies' page, which is dead now. Kavithalayaa's site is there, also AVM Production's site might be useful perhaps, but I can't enter that. Generally official sites of production houses seem to be very reliable ones. Johannes003 (talk) 10:33, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Most of the so called "official sites" are maintained by fans or cinema based web companies. Not sure how reliable are they. -BiLLa- talk 03:22, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Maybe, we should check out who added that, it could be some fanatic IP user. There will have been nominees, since there were nominees in earlier ceremonies and in the Telugu section, too, but how to find out? If there was a video coverage of that ceremony available we would know. Otherwise, I would remove it as it's unsourced. Johannes003 (talk) 13:57, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, well I thought of working little more on it. There is certainly a lot more to improve, I'm just feeling litle lazy to work on it. :P I don't know, what's best. We can also go for a peer review, it doesn't matter. Johannes003 (talk) 09:26, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Well, no website is 100% perfect, you got to understand that. Are you saying TOI is an unreliable source? Mention of Shankar as Shankar Mahadevan might have been a mistake, I'll contact them and ask them to correct it. What else do you want me to do? Secret of success (talk) 11:22, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I don't care. This is not the place to elevate your favourite Star's films. I'm not questioning about the credibility of TOI. There is a consensus not to add budget/gross figures for any Indian movie, if it's speculated at a higher rate. I think you might be aware of the "Enthiran issue". Even official sources were not considered. --Commander (Ping Me) 11:27, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I think your statement of the ip being the sockpuppet of sreekar akkineni is true. Earlier, a user named Niranjaniyengar(who was a sock of sreekar akkineni) wrote on my talk page in a similar manner. If you can trace the ip used by them, it would be possible to block him. Re: Mayiladuthurai

There are too many people editing Thanjavur article - too many anon IPs and newbies. I had to keep a constant eye on the article's history if at all I plan to get it to a GA or an FA. Besides, as Thanjavur is of great historical importance, there is too much to be added. Hence, reviewers might expect a great deal at a GA or FA discussion. Editing Mayiladuthurai is comparatively peaceful. I do not wish to speculate on where I might like to get the article to. But let's see. And congrats on the good job you are doing by policing Thanjavur article. The problem with such articles is that you keep your eyes off for a week or two and you will find your edits difficult to spot. Maybe, sometime in the future, I might involve myself.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 16:46, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Again there are no specific guidelines. We might rather use the script of the language which the subject regularly uses; you might observe that in most cases the offsprings of individuals belonging to different regional and cultural and regional backgrounds adopt the culture of the father. A classic example might be the former Tiruchi MP Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, himself - his grandfather was a Kongu Vellalar from the then Salem district, his grandmother was a Goud Saraswat Brahmin from Mangalore and his mother hailed from West Bengal. And Kumaramangalam chose to stand for election from constituencies in TN. Here, I feel that Kumaramangalam preferred his paternal culture more. Maybe, I am wrong but then, this is only my perception. There are no set of rules, however, only opinions.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 01:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Gemini Ganesan's daughter??? Hmmm... Which of Gemini's daughters is actually notable, apart from Rekha? As for Rekha, I feel that there should be only Devanagari script for her, as she got fame only in Hindi movies. As for other daughters of his, notability is disputable.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 04:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
User:Shshshsh's attitude appears imperious; maybe, it is because he has got tens of thousands of edits and a few FAs. He was edit warring with me in Aishwarya Rai article and did not care to explain his views in the GA-discussion or on my talkpage, one of the main reasons why the article failed GA. Edits by experienced editors should not be reverted just like that without any discussion; I perceive it to be a blatant disregard for WP:AGF.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 05:32, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I definitely do not mind him reverting me. But he should, atleast, have the courtesy to inform me or invite me to a discussion, right. Just giving an edit summary is not enough. That's how you deal with random vandals or newbies not with dedicated contributors.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 05:53, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I guess Rekha must be fluent in both Telugu as well as Tamil. You cannot determine her mother tongue by giving a TOI article as a source. And then, she has spent most of her life neither in Andhra Pradesh nor in Tamil Nadu. And it is the Hindi film industry that has made her a star though she made her debut in Telugu. Hence, as per the Aishwarya Rai argument, we need to have only Devanagari script in her article.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 06:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. You had recently talked about locking the Vishwaroopam article completely for further info to be released. If you can, please do so as soon as possible, because there is continuous change of info, especially about the lead actress and within a day, nearly 10-15 vandals rise on the page. I am unable to check each and every one and in the end, just revert back everything (I have done that twice already). sortable table columns

I like to make the notes section of some filmography tables sortable because you can more easily see how many times someone has won a certain award or done a film in a certain language, etc... and check that everything is there that needs to be, with consistent spelling too. There is nothing specifically against it in the MOS. BollyJeff || talk 12:05, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Just because many are currently done that way doesn't mean they all have to be. Yes some filmography will not need sortability of notes, but I don't see the harm in putting where it makes sense. BollyJeff || talk 13:37, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Also she went to Abacus school (http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/features/2010/02/10/5947/index.html) and not Vidya Mandir as mentioned in the link. And surely all news papers would have reported if Kamal Haasan's daughter had acted in Anjali and won the National Award. This article states that she made her singing debut at age 6 for Thevar Magan (which also proves her age!), for sure they would have also written that she acted in Anjali, if it was true. That Shruti that acted in Anjali is some other Shruti, dude, that's why it wasn't added in her page! Johannes003 (talk) 14:05, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I know it was published by the Directorate of Film Festivals, but it says just Baby Shruti, it could be any Shruti. In the title credits of Anjali it is given simply as Shruti. This is too vague and we shouldn't speculate anything. Shruti surely would have mentioned this in at least one interview. Johannes003 (talk) 14:50, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Dasavatharam's performance

Hi I can agree with you that Kamal Hassan's Dasavatharam had opened to mixed reviews, but I liked it. Also, I think it was well received overseas. But either way it was a commercial success grossing over 200 crores at the box office. Then why do you say it had mixed impact at the box office? Kailash29792 (talk) 16:08, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

RE: List of awards and nominations received by Kamal Haasan

Some comments
*Infobox
Awards & nominations -> Per WP:&
  • Lead
"which produced several of his films" -> they still producing his films.
I'm personally against citations in the lead, because the information is supposed to be in the body. Excepting the information that is not in the article, you should remove the references from it
  • Awards
Honoring -> consistency needed (I think that "honour" is used in India)
"Civilian honours": "the fourth highest civilian honour awarded by the Government of India[15] for" -> "the fourth highest civilian honour awarded by the Government of India,[15] for"
" ": "Abraham Kovoor Award which is awarded to Philanthropists." -> "Abraham Kovoor Award, which is awarded to Philanthropists." (unsourced as well)
"Filmfare Awards South": "Haasan is the only actor awarded the most number of times and across all languages." -> unsourced
"International festivals": You should split them and talk of them one by one.
" ": "and Virumaandi, both directed by Haasan received honours" -> "and Virumaandi, both directed by Haasan, received honours"
"National Film Awards": "The National Film Awards, established in 1954" -> "The National Film Awards, established in 1954,"
I only mentioned some of them.
  • General comment
I have no experience with the "A&N received by actor/actress" lists. After seeing some of them (note that those are from musician and not actors) I found out that they include a short description of the organisation whose award is given, and the subject's information is latter mentioned, e.g.:
"The American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmfAR) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. Madonna was honored with the foundation's Award of Courage in 1991, for her charitable works to fight against AIDS.[8]
"Since 1994,[7] the CMA Awards have been given annually by the television network Channel[.[V]] Awards are split into two regional categories: Mainland China and Hong Kong (HK)/Taiwan. S.H.E has won one award from fourteen nominations."
It also has many unsourced statements, and it is overlinked at the "References" (One link for The Times of India is enough). So, in my personal view, this article is not ready for a FLC, I suggest you to take it to PR again. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it!
