Can you please cut me some slack here? The style guide only says "The notes field should not be allowed to get overly cluttered." Not that it cannot be sortable. Superstar's film

Hi. I know you consider Behindwoods as an unreliable source, but according to a report they have released, Rana has been dropped due to various reasons. [3] I have no idea why after so much speculation and planning, they decided this as the outcome. Morever, wiki doesn't permit dropped film articles, so I suggest we nominate it for deletion. Secret of success Talk to me 12:50, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Not exactly. Behindwoods has indeed received coverage from a notable newspaper, which makes the site follow the notability (web) policy. I could even re-create the article using the link, adding the info. Secret of success Talk to me 15:10, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
There's no need for such a harsh tone. I just wanted your opinion on whether a stub article on Behindwoods would reap or not. Regarding Rana, I agree that it is a rumour. Earlier, there was speculation in the months of May and June that it had been dropped, but the producers intervened and clarified it, says Oneindia, which by all means is a reliable source. Secret of success Talk to me 18:19, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm not questioning the reliability of the Hindu, nor am I saying Behindwoods is 100% correct. If you feel you need official sources, then by all means wait. And please add a source for the dubbed version in Telugu before reverting. Secret of success Talk to me 10:11, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

But the activities start now with the 100 day long WikiOutreach.

Hi. There were quite a lot of dead links in the Chennai article which I had to replace. However, I was unable to replace dead links by finding good sources for these statements:

  • Five major national highways link Chennai to Mumbai (via Bangalore), Kolkata, Kochi, Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) and Tirupati and onwards to the rest of the national highway system. Numerous state highways link the city to Puducherry and other towns and cities in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.
  • There are 1,389 schools in the city, out of which 731 are primary, 232 are secondary and 426 are higher secondary schools.
  • It has been declared a UNESCO information centre.(Education and healthcare section)

Could you please help me out? This article needs a lot of work without which, it will lose its FA status. Thanks. Secret of success Talk to me 13:04, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Hyderabad

The sister cities of Hyderabad, India mentioned in the page count up to 16, notably the highest for an Indian city as far as I know. Out of those, 6 (Orlando, Munich, Taipei, Bloemfontein, Medellín and Osaka) are supported by a site called newsofap.com and all the 6 are not at all mentioned in the official site of the city or in the wiki article, except for Munich which is mentioned without a source. I wish to challenge that information and remove it if no third-party source can be found, and tried to do so in the talk page without any results. hence I would appreciate it if you can help me with this, by proving that newsofap.com is not an RS and doesn't follow the Wp:WEB guideline either. File:Nitt.adblock.jpg

Hey, what happened? Have you given up our goal to take Trichy article to FA? :-) I'm working on a new section on "Architecture" which might, probably, be essential. In the meantime, it would be great if you can get some good photos of Trichy. It will nice you can snap some 30 or 40 photos of places and monuments (preferrably using a digital camera). We'll have the best ones in Tiruchi article. The rest will go to the article on the respective place or monument. Or you might also request some professional photographer to provide some pictures (provided, the person is willing to release his images copyright-free). Some of the images in Tiruchi article are really good, but it is unfortunate that their copyright status is doubtful as no metadata is available. While as per WP:AGF we must, indeed, allow those images to remain here, those pics might positively obstruct a successful WP:FAN. I am listing some of the good-quality images here. It will be great if you can snap photos of these places/monuments from the same angle and position and upload them to commons.

Additionally, we might require an 180 degree high-quality panoramic image of Tiruchi city, possibly snapped from the top of the Rockfort-RaviMy Tea Kadai 04:12, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a bit early. But we've a lot of things to do - peer review and all. We'd better start now, else the article would be languishing in its current state forever. Anyway, there have been FAs which have been written in a matter of weeks. User:Rama's Arrow had started an article and taken it to an FA in 10 days. Marojejy National Park, today's featured article was written, improved and successfully nominated for an FAN in 3 or 4 months.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 09:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, of course. I've prepared some text here. Your opinion and suggestions are very much welcome. If you wish to add any content, such as a new section of something like that, you can very well prepare it in your sandbox. I simply don't suggest that you make instantaneous changes to the article as it would spoil the flow.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:46, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
I had already told you not to make drastic edits to the article but from this, it appears that you had not heeded my warning. Can you please explain why you replaced "id" with "isbn" everywhere? What difference does it make to the article? Now, for citations which had two or more isbn numbers, you had un-uniformly used "id" as well as "isbn". And why did you leave the comma at the end? If you can bother to check the article, you might notice that the replacement of "id" with "isbn" has resulted in full-stops being added after the first ISBN number. This might most probably be questioned at WP:FAN. Anyway, I leave it to you to clean up the mess.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 04:26, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
That's okay. I'll fix it. No probs :-)-RaviMy Tea Kadai 09:20, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

The number of DYK nominations with image suggestions usually exceeds the number of available image slots, often by a factor of 2x to 4x. Consequently, many such nominations are promoted without the image. As to your nomination specifically, there was no specific reason but there were several factors influencing my decision not to use the image. DYK tries to present visually different images. Portraits of individuals are common suggestions making them less likely to be selected, particularity if there is nothing visually striking or different from other portrait suggestions made around the same date. Many experienced set composers also like to place longer and well developed articles in the image slot to reward the extra effort needed to develop such articles and because they are often better examples of the type of article Wikipedia wishes to encourage editors to create.

I personally understand the frustration of not having an image suggestion selected as it usually takes me between 10 to 12 nominations to land one hook in the image slot. --Allen3 talk 20:48, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Rajeshbieee (talk) 02:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Re. Filmfare

Well, if that page says so, what can we do? I guess, it is true. I'm not sure, but I think the awards were indeed given before 1972 as well, at least in Telugu, and it was extended in 1972 to other languages. Johannes003 (talk) 09:17, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I second that! Looks unlikely that only a Best Film award was given for nearly 20 years. Johannes003 (talk) 10:09, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
That site actually looks good for me, quite professional, well formatted and organized. And everything else is correct only, isn't it? Then add MGR's name, too. Unless some source can prove the opposite, I don't have any objection. Johannes003 (talk) 12:50, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Re: Tiruchirappalli

Provisional population data, as the name itself implies, are not the final calculations. And then, the pdf file you gave does not have any details on the area of the city. If we have the provisional population figures for 2011 and the area stats based on 2001 data, it would look a bit odd. So, lets wait for the census data of the 2011 census to be officially announced. I guess by early 2012 they might be public.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:47, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Sources are needed to support the claim that the area of Tiruchi in 2011 is the same as in 2001. The source present in the article pertains to the 2001 census.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 02:53, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, the point it, Wikipedia relies more on sources than your word or my word. And the source given for Trichy's area is from a 2003 book and hence, obviously, based on the 2001 census. Just because Thiruverumbur and Pappankurichi were not added to the MCorp, it does not imply automatically that the city could not have expanded. Even if there has not been any expansion, speculating upon it based on the reason you gave would amount to a violation of WP:SYNTH.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 18:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

The first printing press in Chennai was established in 1712 by Danish Missionaries who printed a book titled ‘’Damulian Tongue’’.[1] The Diocesan Press, established in 1761 by the Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge (SPCK), is the oldest existing press in the city in the name of CLS press.[2] The city saw its first newspaper in 1785, with the start of the Madras Courier by the British. Six years later, the Hurkaru was launched. Two newspapers, Madras Gazette and India Herald were established a decade later.[3] The Swadesamitran was the first Tamil newspaper started in Chennai,[4] and The Dinakaran was the first Tamil daily in the country expanding circulation to over 12 cities.[5] The Hindu, the second largest circulated English daily in the country, is headquartered in Chennai[6] and was established in 1878 by G. Subramaniam Iyer and became a tri-weekly and a daily in 1883 and 1889 respectively.[7]

Chennai is the second largest entertainment industry center in the country after Mumbai, as of 2007.[8] The first instance of a radio broadcast in Chennai was seen in 1924 when the Madras Presidency Radio Club was established and started transmission in the city. In 1966, the University of the AIR programme started its process in Chennai.[9] The first private FM station was launched in Chennai in 1977. In 2004, the first campus radio station in the country was started at the Anna University in the city.[10] Today, the city has more than 11 radio stations functioning within it.[11]

The first Television centre was inaugurated in Chennai in 1975 and the Chennai Doordarshan was introduced in 1988 proceeding to be renamed as Podhigai.[12] The technology of Cable TV was introduced in the 1990’s with small operators who had a base in various parts of the city. The first corporate channel to commence its transmission was the Hathway cable. Eventually, the Chennai cable market was dominated by two companies, Hathway and Sumangali cable.[13]
