Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. WikiCup 2016: Game On!
We are about to enter the second week of the 2016 WikiCup. The most recent player to sign up brings the current total to 101 contestants. Signups close on 5 February. If you’re interested, you can join this year's WikiCup here.
We are aware that in some areas the scoring bot’s numbers are a little bit off (i.e., overly generous) and are working to have that corrected as soon as possible.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:04, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.
Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by MPJ-DK (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), and Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.
If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. SCW & ISIL sanctions notice
Please read this notification carefully, it contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.
A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, such as 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, which you have recently edited. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.
General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.Your recent edits seem to have violated the 1RR restriction on ISIL-related articles GreyShark (dibra) 18:45, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
High Risk days
The only source I have is the SPC Convective Outlook archive. This can be used in the 2014-2016 stretch without a High Risk to show that there has been none since June 3, 2014 and continuing to date. However, the source cannot be used to prove there was no High Risk between June 6, 1999 and April 5, 2001, because the archive only goes back to 2003. On the other hand, the SPC has an archived events page that starts in 2000: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/archive/events/searchindex.html
Any day that is a high risk is automatically considered a severe weather events. Events have been archived since 2000, and no high risk day appears until April 6, 2001. In addition, this site agrees there was no high risk between June 6, 1999 and April 5, 2001: http://www.convectiveoutlook.com/events/events.htm
Looking at the last events from 1985-1999 and then the first event from 2000-2003 will confirm this agreement.
For both cases, I will not reverse any of your edits (undo's) without a message back, but I'd appreciate if you'd let me know whether I have sufficient sourcing such that it is acceptable to include either of the pieces of information (particularly the current streak without a high risk being the longest at least since 2003, when a full outlook archive became available on SPC). Also, technically there is no source available to prove there were no high risk days in 2000, but that information has still been allowed on the page for years.
Thanks.
107.9.225.5 (talk) 02:54, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Brandon
- I guess you could go back and get that sourcing, but the real reason I removed was because that is considered trivial information. Such trivial information really doesn't have a place here. I think the part about it saying "there were no high risk days in XXXX year" was put there as a note to be sure someone didn't think that year was left out. United States Man (talk) 02:59, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
Conclusion (I agree with your assessment; all should be good)
I agree what you say sounds correct, that the length of time without a high risk, even though a record in the modern era, is more just a 'trivia fact' as opposed to mentioning explicitly there were no high risk days in a particular year (when that year is over, i.e. 2000 and 2015) to make the reader clear that the year was not unintentionally omitted. As thus, I will not re-instate any of my edits.
All I'm going to change is say "There were no high risk days in 2015 and none in 2016 to date", so the reader is aware the page is still being updated with the latest data.

...yes I have warned before about it, but I please, I am not the only user doing this. Ask Meow why does she still do it. Typhoon2013 (talk) 20:34, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- I need to tell some user about this. Even you don't follow what you have been saying! I got warned by you because of updating the season timeline early before the official UTC time (00Z). Now you do the same, as I have seen your edit summary in the "View history" of the 2016 PHS article, updating the timeline around 21Z. I am just so confused right now, so it mean that I can update the timeline early. Typhoon2013 (talk) 23:28, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Typhoon2013: I never said not to update until 0000z; 2100z or later is fine in my opinion. Just don't update them as early as 13 to 1500z, as you had previously been doing. United States Man (talk) 19:25, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yes I did edit the timeline very early around the 12Z mark but I only did it once this year. Also you're saying that it wasn't you who told me to edit after 00Z?? Typhoon2013 (talk) 08:57, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Little River Inlet
The Little River Inlet appears to be located at the North Carolina–South Carolina border, mostly on the SC side. Dustin (talk) 03:09, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
I suppose it would make sense to exclude South Carolina since that would be an extremely small amount of the state. I don't know why they didn't just say SC/NC border. Dustin (talk) 03:10, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- For the NHC purposes it is on the state line, and the warnings are only for North Carolina, which is more or less implied by the NHC advisory. So, it is better left as just North Carolina. Guess they just wanted to include a landmark that people may know instead of just an imaginary line. United States Man (talk) 03:13, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup
Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017
On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.
For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):
- First place – $200
- Second & Third place – $50 each
- Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.
Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.
After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.
The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).
Signups are open now and will remain open until 5 February 2017. You can sign up here.

Yes, with a stub it can be difficult to confirm notability but anyone who has played in a first-class cricket match is notable per WP:NCRIC and WP:CRIN. There are hundreds of first-class players, mostly from the 19th century, who don't have articles yet so we're starting them as stubs to develop them later. The key requirement is to state that the man was a first-class player and provide a source for verification. CricketArchive isn't the best source available but it suffices for this purpose. Thanks for your note. All the best for 2017. Jack | talk page 21:29, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello
Hi, I thought that you were a little too hasty adding the tag here. At [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:New_pages_patrol#CSD WP:NPP], it says "Do not be too hasty to use CSD A1 (no context) and CSD A3 (no content); wait at least 15 minutes to give time to the creator to add content." There's no point in removing the tag now, but just a friendly reminder for the future. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 22:38, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ThePlatypusofDoom: I had that in mind there, but with those types of articles it is highly unlikely that anything becomes of those. I guess they are probably more like tests. United States Man (talk) 22:48, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- Similar thoughts here: [1]. Adding an A7 tag two minutes after creation is a bit hasty and WP:BITEy in my view. Keeping the tag on because I don't see any reason to remove yet, but early A7 tagging is also non-ideal. TonyBallioni (talk) 18:42, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @TonyBallioni: I didn't blindly do that. I looked up the company, which is based out of India, and did not find anything very sufficient, so I went ahead and tagged it. It isn't going to become more notable in the next few minutes. United States Man (talk) 19:12, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- Right, but the standard for A7 is that the article credibly asserts significance, which is a much lower standard than notability. New users should be given the time to do that, especially in regard to South Asian articles because sources are notoriously hard to find there even if they do exist. I agree with you that it should be A7ed (I restored the tag a few minutes ago after the creator removed it), it is a best practice to give them some time. The worst quality articles will get caught on NPP if you wait a few minutes, if not by you, at least by someone else, so there really isn't that much harm in letting it wait. Anyway, thanks for helping with WP:NPP. We really need the help because the backlog is back up above 14k, and having more hands on deck is always a plus. Just leaving the note here because I thought it was a bit quick :) TonyBallioni (talk) 19:19, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
