In accordance with the BURDEN policy, each entry must be supported by one or more reliable sources establishing the significance and context of the ribbon campaign, which must be independent of the campaign or any group promoting the ribbon. Unsourced entries may be removed. |

This list contains many entries which are plainly not in the least bit significant, large numbers sourced only to the organisation promoting the ribbon, a fair number sourced to blogs or other unreliable sources, and quite a few that have no source at all.
I think that as a matter of curating this content we need to adopt a firm and straightforward rule for inclusion: I propose that the following criterion is used:
- Each entry must be supported by one or more reliable independent sources establishing the significance and context of the ribbon campaign. Unsourced entries will be removed.
In fact this should be true of all content in Wikipedia but the issue here is the constant addition of poorly sourced content by well-meaning newcomers so I think we need to establish a precedent of removing unsourced or poorly sourced content. Guy (Help!) 09:26, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

[edit]- Support as proposer. Guy (Help!) 09:26, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
- Support, unsourced material should be removed. --HamedH94 (talk) 04:55, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
- No-brainer. Be bold and be gone with the spam! FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 13:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose adoption of page rule, on the principle of BITE, but support removal of unsourced information. What's being proposed here is really just BURDEN with all the details, subrules, and explanation cut out (not to mention the ad infinitum discussion of interpretation of BURDEN at the V talk page). The end result will not be really any different than what can be done under BURDEN anyway (unless the intent is, which I don't think that it is, is to trim away some of the uncertainties and wrinkles involved with BURDEN). What's being proposed is a mini-rule which can be waved about to swat newcomers away rather than having to try to explain BURDEN to them and convince them that it's really the rule. FSM knows that having to do that is burdensome (pun intended) and tedious, but tricking them into thinking that the statement above is that that's all there is to BURDEN is BITE-y. If, on the other hand, this effort is intended to modify BURDEN as to this one article, it runs afoul of CONLIMITED. I have no problem with unsourced material being removed simply because it is unsourced (though best practices would recommend — not require — that (a) you state your belief that it cannot be sourced, (b) that you look for sources before deleting it, and (c) that you {{cn}}-tag it for awhile before removing it), such removals just need to be done under BURDEN. If there is too big a flow of unsourced material, particularly if the adding editors get all EW'ey over it, then page protection or asking AN for a 1RR for this article should be considered. If the proposed page rule had made clear that all that was being said was an invocation of BURDEN, I would have supported this. Something like "In accordance with the BURDEN policy, each entry must be supported by one or more reliable independent sources establishing the significance and context of the ribbon campaign and unsourced entries may be removed." Let me note that I'm not intending to imply that anyone here intended to be BITE-y or surreptitious, I just think that the proposed page rule, as proposed, has that effect. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 19:55, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
- It's not a page rule, it's core policy. I am proposing that we make ti explicit both here and in the edit notice, that's all. Guy (Help!) 14:28, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- Support – Called by RfC bot; removal of unsourced/unsupported content seems to generally be a good idea. I share the same thoughts as TransporterMan above regarding this one-page rule. This really just comes down to "if it isn't backed up by a source, then get rid of it." United States Man (talk) 12:00, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- Agree with TransporterMan and United States Man. I agree with TransporterMan that "unsourced information should be removed" and United States Man that "if it isn't backed up by a source, then get rid of it". I share the same concerns about the one-page rule as TransporterMan. I support TransporterMan's rewording, "In accordance with the BURDEN policy, each entry must be supported by one or more reliable independent sources establishing the significance and context of the ribbon campaign and unsourced entries may be removed." Lyme Disease Awareness Information
The awareness ribbon color for Lyme Disease is Lime Green. The month of May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month: to encourage learning about this common tick-borne disease and take steps to protect themselves if they live in or visit areas with Lyme disease activity. World Lyme Disease Day is held on May 11th. Sandra Lee McIntyre (talk) 16:44, 1 May 2018 (UTC)https://www.lymedisease.org/get-involved/take-action/lyme-awareness-month/§
Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the Borrelia type. The most common sign of infection is an expanding area of redness, known as erythema migrans, that begins at the site of the bite about a week after it has occurred. The rash is typically neither itchy nor painful. About 25% of people do not develop a rash. Other early symptoms may include fever, headache, and feeling tired. If untreated, symptoms may include loss of the ability to move one or both sides of the face, joint pains, severe headaches with neck stiffness, or heart palpitations among others.

The Quilt Ribbon for awareness of Dissociative Identity Disorder...

The overt DID community is microscopic compared to, say, cancer, hence asking for a New York Times cover photo of a street protest with people wearing quilt patterns is asking too much. Please consider this entry. It is what most people who are safe enough, who can afford it in terms of dealing with the horrendous stigma attached to DID, and chose an activistic path are using as a common symbol. There is no "official" ribbon, because there is no body more "official" to decide it than the actual dissociative survivors.

Purple ribbon for domestic violence?
[edit]I’ve never heard of a purple ribbon for domestic violence? The citation is from People’s World, which describes itself as “People’s World is a voice for progressive change and socialism in the United States. It provides news and analysis of, by, and for the labor and democratic movements to our readers across the country and around the world. With a small but dedicated staff and a nation-wide network of volunteer writers, People’s World presents insights into local, national, and international struggles from the perspectives of those who are experiencing them. It’s an angle you won’t find in the corporate press.”
This doesn’t seem like a valid source, and the article in People’s World doesn’t say anything about a purple ribbon, it just has an article about domestic violence, and a picture of a purple ribbon and hands that read “stop domestic violence”.
I think domestic violence should not be equated with a purple ribbon because there is no source for it. Paige Matheson (talk) 23:17, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Zombie Awareness
[edit]Zombie Awareness should probably also be listed for the gray ribbon (the citation can even be taken straight from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_Awareness_Month). I myself don't really want to bother with requests and formatting and so on, but I figured I could reach out in case any Wikipedians care enough to list this on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.98.112.157 (talk) 16:50, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Under “Purple ribbon” please add “GIST Cancer Awareness (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor), a rare sarcoma cancer of the GI system.”
See https://gistinfo.org/gist-donate/ for evidence of use. 2603:8001:1400:E2BA:7CD4:6921:CC84:E867 (talk) 16:13, 3 March 2022 (UTC) Can't do that sorry. We will need secondary sources on the topic. See WP:Primary and WP:Secondary . With just a primary source I can't even tell whether it is a legitimate organization.--TZubiri (talk) 06:14, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Tourette syndrome awareness

Yellow Ribbon Singapore
[edit]Yellow Ribbon Singapore's use of the yellow ribbon for raising awareness of anti--ex-con stigma in hiring may be eligible for inclusion in this list but I don't know if it has received much notable use beyond the YRS (nee SCORE) organisation's own advertisements. --- AzureArmagedd0n (talk) 18:51, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Since October 7th 2023, the yellow ribbon also symbolizes awareness to the hostage situation in Gaza (130+ Israelis and internationals currently kept in Captivity by the Hamas terrorist organization). Since it is not listed, I think it is important to add it (there is no mention of it in any English article). Rgreinger (talk) 17:31, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
